She must be a tough cookie---

She HAS to be to live with HIM. Imagine living with a man who won't buy you a new car after 8 years. Mrs. J Monroe is the one who deserves the diamond necklace that guy bought his wife! Since she reads his posts, I think that she should buy the necklace and charge it on his card. Merry Christmas Mrs. JMonroe! :D

It is against Edmunds bylaws to encourage inappropriate use of any of its boards, and don't try to weasel (sorry snake) out of this by saying you didn't encourage this. Everything was fine until you showed up. :(

Ohhh, I can't wait till 'tidester' jumps your buns for this. :D

Since I seem to be the only one around right now, I'll answer this and I hope you don't mind.

Mack works at a dealership in Virginia Beach, or so he says, in between telling tales that have to "be continued".

The last we heard about 'snake' he was in the market for a new car. This might be why he asked where you're located. So, if I were you, I'd ping on him until you ripped his head off. Then come back here and let us know if he's as tough as he acts. I'm betting that he's a whale. :D

Hope this helps and if does, have no fear; we don't get a split commission here. We do it as a service to members. :)

I never thought about doing one for someone. But the kit you are talking about sounds pretty inexpensive. Correct me if i am wrong you were suggesting to charge about $1500... :confuse:

I know when we install a sun/moon roof we charge $1295... I wasn't sure if that is what you were talking about...

I don't believe it would be justified saying you can put a sun roof in for $1295 and a convertible for $1500...

Also I don't think i would want anything to do with the warranty on a cutting a roof off of a car. I just wonder what kind of rattles you would get with that and how that would interfer with structual integrity of the car...

I do how ever appreciate the work you did to find out that information :)

Thank You for the hint, Mac.
I had not even considered the Camry, assuming it would be pricier than the Sonata (in my case). Unfortunately, I was right. Figuring close to invoice, no rebates, OTD is about 2.5K lower.
Still, plenty of time till next summer, lots of time to research.
    Thank You,
    Chris

P.S. I hope your treatments are going well!

The convertible top kits (not sunroof) are pretty reasonable, but by the time that you add in the labor, you may as well get it done by a pro for $1,500. Also, this figure is determined by the make of the car and whether you want a cloth or vinyl top. If it's a vinyl top, you can keep the plastic window and save some money. If it's a cloth top, you have to replace the glass window because it is sewn into the material. The $1,500 estimate was for a cloth top and window.

Since your frame stays the same, and if you install new padding around the frame, there should be no rattles. The auto interior shop that I talked with guarantees the materials and workmanship as far as a warranty is concerned. Thanks. :)

I did jokingly tell a Mustang guy once that my car was obviously faster because his speedo only went to 140. He looked again to check. That was all I needed to see.

The last we heard about 'snake' he was in the market for a new car.

Well me and the wife talked about things and decided on a midsize sedan. After doing our research and looking at all the cars we were interested in my wife says "its only the two of us we don't need a big car lets look at something small" :confuse:

Ok we do the whole 9 yards again do our research go to the dealerships and look at all the cars we are interested in and the wife says "You know a small car won't do, what we need is a SUV for when we get things at the Home Depot".

Now on the way home today the wife says "How about getting a pickup truck?".

Now I think I might be in the market for a new wife. ;)

Now that will cost you. I'd go for 2 pickup trucks, it's a lot cheaper.

Run the numbers, you'll see. I know you know how to do that :D

    OK, serious question.

A guy comes in around 6 o'clock. Makes what appears to be a low ball offer on a car /truck but when you really look at the numbers, you can see that you'll break even, even if you figure he won't go for any packages in the F&I office; do you make the deal?

Yes, as long as it is not something we are in short supply of. If we break even roll it, we will live to fight another day. Hell he might refer a customer to us that we hit a home run on. You just never know.

    So why wasn't a "true comparison" ?

well, as I pointed out, they were using estimates for the accord. So that means they didn't really do a head-to-head comparison. They track tested a Camry and put the numbers up against the estimated numbers for an Accord.

I doubt very much YOUR Accord can spank any of MY Camrys.

well, you brought up the magazine numbers, and according to the magazines, a 6-speed Accord could hit 60 mph in 5.9 secs. :b

And yes we do offer a six speed stick. It's called a sequential transmission for those that desire to shift without a clutch.

HUH??? Wait a sec here. You can get a Camry with an SMG??? Are you SURE about your terminology here? Mind you, manually shifting an automatic with plus and minus buttons does NOT make it a sequential manual. If I'm not mistaken some of the most recent MR2s could be had with an SMG, so I'm sure you know what that is.

So now you're calling me a liar.

No. I'm saying your buddy doesn't know how to work a seat. ;b

Your EPA "estimates" are an "improvement" over the last Accord not over the Camry.

Hmmm... not sure what you mean. The numbers are right there in that link you posted. The Accord is rated 1 mpg better. *shrug*

We are so off topic, its silly. But I'm just surprised at some of the senseless bashing you do sometimes. If you think 'yotas are that great, you shouldn't need to put down other products to prove it. FYI, a salesperson who criticizes another product rather than simply talking up their own is a big turnoff for me when shopping. I will typically walk away from those people.

First, I'm not selling cars here. Just informing the public. And I did not bash the Accord. I'm sure they will sell a lot of them but not as many as the Camry. The first thing my mentor Marshall Uptight told me was never put down the competition in front of a customer, always point out the advantages of your product. image

I thought you actually knew something about the Camry. We haven't had shift buttons on the steering wheel since the last MR2 2005. The sequential tranny on the Camry is right on the shift gate. Just flick the lever to the left and shift by clicking the lever using the - or + for down or up. Works like a charm. image

He is actually quite an intelligent guy. Also does home mortgages on the side and has been a desk manager and f&i manager. I'm sure when we drove the car he tried several adjustments and the seat was all the way back. And he had to lower the seat back just so his face wouldn't be in the windshield.
    image

5.9 secs 0-60 I doubt very much. I don't believe in estimates. It either does or doesn't.

Whoopee! 1 mpg better. That's impressive!

Yes, I do believe Toyotas are superior to Hondas. Just wait and see what we have in store for you in March of 08. image

Why not buy a small crossover? That way, you have the truck, small car, and sedan all in one. Then everyone is happy---especially the wife. Besides, the price of the vehicle will be much less than alimony, child support, and your half of the house. :D
  • pushingtinpushingtin Member Posts: 16
My turn....Even in my past life as a consumer I have always disliked the look of Hondas - period. Now that I sell Toyotas I've got all the hard facts to support my viewpoint.

One acronym to remember friends - QDR - its the Toyota platform - and it stands for Quality Durability Reliability.
The process of building a far superior automobile when compared to any of our competitors starts on the assembly line, where any worker on that line has the authority to literally stop the line. The simple reason for this is that if a worker notices any imperfection on a vehicle coming down the line....its his job to insure that the problem is fixed pre-production.

Toyota plants have ten service bays where they inspect any quality issues and correct them before any more are produced. Our competitors simply either finish the line with the faults in place and proceed to heap hundreds of vehicles in about as many service bays, or roll the line out to the dealerships and issue re-call after re-call.

Toyota continues to climb the latter all the way to the top with one goal in mind....offer our customers what they want....but more importantly, give them what they expect.

Oh yeah....it looks a helluva lot better too!
  • pushingtinpushingtin Member Posts: 16
As most of you know I'm pretty new to the car game. I've been reading through many of your posts and out of curiosity was wondering what an average or above average month is for you individually and your dealership as well?

If we're not over 300 every month our GM is freaking out and the owner is ready to bounce some heads.

In what I can only guess is typically a slow period of the year, our goal is 350 this month. So far we stand at 156 of which I have a contributed 8 1/2.

Are any / most of you paid a salary along with your commission? We are straight commission with a $240 / week draw. And you can bet that if you're on a draw for two months.....its gone baby gone!

I love it! I love the opportunity to meet new people and lay the foundation for a long term relationship as well as the challenge of every new day. It's exciting, rewarding, and I enjoy the immediate feedback that I get whether I close or not. The potential for success is truly unlimited.

I just want to thank you all for welcoming me aboard, its like our own little union hall where we all get together - discuss our experiences, and help each other through the obstacles. You guys are alright!

I am so proud of you! Look at those paragraphs! Each one is well written with no errors. Eat your heart out jmonroe. Being nice to Tony produced much better results than "fussing" at him. You have made an old professor's day. I can now sleep in peace. Blessings on everyone.
  • mackabeemackabee Member Posts: 4,709
Congrats! sounds like you are doing pretty good. A good rule of thumb is whatever number you have on the 20th of the month you can almost guarantee you will double it by the end of the month. So even if you don't sell a car between now and the 20th most of the people you talk that didn't buy will come back to see you. Looks like you are tracking 17-20 units this month. That is very good. Keep it up. image

since honda, nissan, mitubishi, hyundai and alot of the other cars offer cars with 6speed manual transmission do you think toyota will have any. would be nice.

The word sequential is usually used in context of SMG/DSG transmissions, not old torque converted autos with manuamatic functions. It is not the same thing. The difference is in shifting mechanism. Manuals and SMG/DSG transmissions have true clutches disengaging and engaging, thus the shifting experience is similar to manual tranny (you feel engine power disconnecting and connecting directly to wheels). There is only a handful of cars having sequential transmissions: BMW M3/M5/M6, Audi A3 and TT, VW GTI/GLI, perhaps some exotics I'm not aware of. Those transmissions come directly from F1 or rally type racing that are not very popular in this country. There are reports/rumors of several other manufacturers planning to introduce them.

Manumatics, on the other hand, are old torque converter autos with added function of telling computer "you shift when I tell you not when you think". And depending on how computers are set up by mfrs. the response can be from "allright - I do it NOW" to "are you sure? really? you don't mean it, do you? allright - let me shift if you absolutely insist". Never drove a new Camry, but from my past experience I'm inclined to think it is tuned closer to the latter way. So far have not driven a manumatic that was even close in shifting response to make me think about getting it instead of manual.

    250. Sometimes there will be flats on used cars we need to move, but 250 is typical.
