It's the older customers expecially. The Avalon competes with nothing we sell and I'll bet the average buyer is 75. Just like the Buick buyers.
And, Mack, I did drive a 2008 Camry and it seemed just like every Camry I've ever driven. Nice cars, in fact GREAT cars, just not an Accord.
And if they have any morals at all they won't ask for their deposit back. The nerve of some people. Not only does their word mean nothing but it seems signed agreements don't either.
I guess the world has become so self-absorbed that causing all that trouble for someone else doesn't even register. If I had to back out of a car deal like that I would die of guilt before I would ask for the deposit back. I'd sure as hell call the people up and explain why I couldn't go through with the deal. :confuse:

LOL. Hold on a second, I can't count that high. If you bought a 89 Buick LeSabre brand new... that's 75 (age of Buick buyers) + 19 (number of years you've owned your Buick) = 94.... meaning you are 94 years old??? shooo, you're older than sin. You should do what jmonroe did, retire and spend the rest of your days writing to myself and all the other friendly folks here at Edmunds.
It'll never happen. He just doesn't have the patience for retirement right now. He won't retire until he finds the exact color that eveyone of his customers wants. :shades:

That is NOT a sequential tranny. Its an automatic with a manual shifting option. An SMG is a far cry from an automatic with manual shifting. They work very very differently.
5.9 secs 0-60 I doubt very much. I don't believe in estimates. It either does or doesn't.
Ok. You are blurring some of my statements [or i'm blurring yours and getting confused]. 5.9 secs was from actual testing. The test YOU posted as proof, however, of the '08 Accord vs '07 Camry was based on estimates. So, yes, just as I pointed that out to show it wasn't a good "comparison" to use as proof, you obviously agree with me.
First, I'm not selling cars here. Just informing the public.
I never said you were. I know you wouldn't do that.
And I did not bash the Accord.
OH yeah ya did. Remember the line about a saturn mating a saturn? And that's just one example. You actually compared it to other cars on the Accord board, I believe Hyundai came out of your keyboard a couple of times. I mean, I don't want to offend or anything, I've had nothing but respect for you all these years, but I think it rude of anyone who is a fan of one brand to go on boards of other brands and bash, but from a salesperson, it just strikes me as tacky.

If you consider my comment about the cross mating of two Saturns to come out with an Accord as bashing then your sense of humor is lacking. :P
And I stand by my comment about Hyundai. They are up and coming and Toyota AND Honda better keep their sights up. The only thing holding them back right now is lack of dealerships. Toyota has 1400 + including Lexus, Honda I'm not sure but not as many as Toyota. I actually did a comparo with a Sonata and it's a great car for the money. The engine is not as smooth as the Camry or Accord but they'll get it right. The interior fit and finish was also superb. I could have removed the emblems and slapped a Toyota or Honda in their place and nobody would know the difference.
The new Veracruz is a formidable contender to the 08 Highlander. Again fit and finish were superb in that vehicle too. Anyone getting a Hyundai dealer franchise now is in a position to be where Toyota dealers are now in 5 or 10 years.
:shades:
PS. like I said, I'm not here to sell cars. I have the right to my opinions like everyone else on the board. All we can do is agree to disagree without anybody getting upset. Would that be ok with you?

Really nice cars, good looking, upscale interiors. I haven't driven one, so can't comment on that, but I rode in the big sedan (above the Sonata, name escapes me!) Very comfy, quiet, nice ride, engine sounded nice, etc.
I would look at one if I was in the market. I actually thought of a Sonata when I got my Accord, but they only offered the stick on a strippo.
It takes a while to obtain a reputation, but if the quality is there (and CR gives them a thumbs up) and the keep the price advantage, they will be tough competition.

I had the same thing happen to me.
I usually order my wheels from Tire Rack with rubber wrapped around them but one time I ordered just a replacement wheel. I had to call them because I thought it was the wrong wheel. Inside the second box was exactly what I had ordered.
That place is good.

That would be the Azera.
"Platform" is just a floor layout for placement of drivetrain components and electrical wiring. It has influence on driving dynamics and that's it. It is an expensive part to develop that's why manufacturers use them in multiple vehicles. Then they bolt on actual vehicle chassis, suspension components, non-structural components, etc. Platform has nothing to do with reliability. The vehicles have to share much more that just a platform to have similar reliability (e.g. Pontiac G6 and previous Malibu). In case of Mazda6 vs Fusion we do have more sharing than just a platform, but it is both ways, e.g. V6 engine is from Ford, while I4 comes from Mazda, I think. But (some) transmissions are already different, as the Mazda6 has 5AT and Fusions has 6AT on their V6 version. I don't know how similar/different is the electrical and engine hardware between and those are most important contributors to new vehicle reliability (most problems on new cars come from electrical system gremlins and integrity - not "platform"). I would not be surprised if Mazda got theirs from Ford corporate not the other way around.
In other words statements like the one above are overstretching the actual situation. And by the way I think Mazda is a good car - just to be clear. Just the thanks might be just the other way. I don't know it and neither do you.

I haven’t dealt with them but son # 1 (the car geek) has, a couple times, and he likes their prices and their service.
About two weeks ago he had a tire that got a slit in the sidewall, therefore, it couldn’t be repaired. Fortunately, he had the road hazard warranty and although they sent a tire right away he still had his car out of service because he didn’t want to ride on the baby spare that came with his Altima. That was his choice. Tire Rack can’t do anything about that.
As a result of the inconvenience, he’s not so sure he’ll go that route again. He said it’s just so much easier to go down the street to get his tires but, like I said, he’s still not sure. He's trying to justify going back to them because a few years ago he had a tire that was bought at the local tire shop that had to be replaced and the shop didn't have the tire in stock, so they had to order it and his car (different car) was out of service for the same period of time. Based on that, I think he'll still deal with them.
He agrees with you, they are good.

I guess I better get the struts replaced however or it'll start floating like a Camry!
Not 100% sure on the numbers, but I remeber reading that on a few different websites.
I actually read a few days ago a report (from Power I think) that the average age of a Buick buyer was the highest in the industry at 65. Buick's challenge is that many of their buyers are in fact purchasing their last vehicle. The youngest average age was Scion at 37. So that would make Craig 84 years old ... on average :surprise:
I remember reading something about the stearing box not being welded proper when the new body style avalon came out. Did they ever figure out how that one slipped through the cracks?
That has been a few years ago, I am not sure how long you been selling toys.
Sometimes I feel that way. :P
I was cheated, my 80' only had a 350 V8 but the engine never gave me any problems. It was the transmission that started to slip in 97'.

Just wanted to tell you that you are truly an inspiration, not only to us in the car business, but to all of us who need to take more time to smell the roses, look at the big picture and have more empathy and compassion for everyone that we come into contact with.
With your positive mental attitude, your focus, and your determination, HOPE will be your can of magic beans - and with HOPE and FAITH any and all things are possible.
Obviously I don't know you as well as everyone else here at our little club, but the little that I do know has been nothing but motivational and uplifting to me as I hit the dealership each day. The fact is - all of us need to take a step back and learn from those around us and find a way to keep things in perspective and smile and laugh a little more everyday.
Thanks Mack. You and your family are in my prayers.
Agreed. I bought one in spite of the Ford connection...
Just kidding :P
In any case, guys driving 'murrican cars/trucks with UAW stickers still give me the finger, so I know it's a real "Foreign Car".

I read that the average age of Buick buyers is related to the particular model they buy. Buick Regal owners being younger (45-55 I believe), and the Lesabre and Park Avenue crowd being older (65-90). Which would mean Craig could be around 109 years old.

Consider yourself luck that it's only the clearcoat. My 95' Bonneville had paint and clearcoat sheeting off of it. Although GM knew they had a primer/paint compatibility problem they wouldn't do a thing about it (that sad tale is around here somewhere).
It was so bad that I had to have the car repainted. That's what turned me off from GM and until that fiasco, I never owned anything other than GM.

I deal exclusively with Tire Rack. I use one of their "Recommended Installers" who charges me $10/tire for mounting and balancing- and has the car in and out in less than 45 minutes. Just yesterday my wife picked up a lag bolt one of the X3's tires, and Tire Rack shipped out a replacement before they closed. The dealer installed a temporary plug and the new tire will be fitted tomorrow or Monday. Since Tire Rack has a warehouse in South Bend IN and Louisville is a UPS hub, standard UPS shipping is effectively "Next Day" shipping. I haven't purchased a tire from a local shop since 1992.

My experience with them and with many of the larger GM cars are that they are fine cars to be a passenger in. Comfortable and roomy. I'd let anyone in the family have one except me. That's because I really like cars that have some fun to drive in them.
Of course at the moment family size has restricted things and I'm in an Ody (as much fun as you can have with a minivan except maybe the Entourage which is notably quicker off the line). Give me time. I'm aiming at joining roadburner with the Mazdaspeed 3. Of course a friend with a Mazda S plan tells me it's the only MAzda you can't get with one.
Could someone with computer skills go the the Le Sabre T-Type forum and post a photo of my "old man's" car?
It's white by the way and the paint on the hood is SHOT.
Giving it to my son today. He was 10 the day I brought it home and loved it from the time he saw it.
Yeah, I'd like to check out a pic of isells wheels. Never heard of the "T-Type"... if it is anything similar to the Buick Grand National, well I guess we'll have to bump your age estimate down a couple decades.
As for the Range Rovers there are either 4,000 or 5,000 dollars back on them depending on the trim level. On vehicles that start at 77,000 dollars and top out at nearly 100,000 dollars that really isn't a whole lot of money when compared to the R-Class that started in the low 50s and had over 10,000 dollars back on them at the height of incentives.
There aren't many 2007 Range Rovers left either. We sold our last one at the end of August.
They took a Le Sabre coupe, lowered it, put in different suspension and a lower axle ratio, exhaust etc. Different interior etc. Mine has leather with power on both sides.
It will cruise at 100 MPH without making a sound.
Certainly not a Grand National but a very nice car.
