Have you ever used this one?

cust; i am here to see your 2008 widget that you have in the paper.

deskman; That unit is a outstanding value ,i cant see why no one has purchased it yet.

cust; You still have it in stock?

deskman; yes i do .the unit is fully repaired and ready for sale.

cust; fully repaired? what was wrong with it?

deskman; the unit fell off the truck during delivery.

cust: OK, damage should be cosmetic, especially if repaired. Let's go have a look and take it for a spin. If it checks out, I'll drive it home :shades:

(Last time I checked, most states allow dealers to fix cars that fall off trucks and not have to disclose it... although I could be mistaken)

It's a con job....lie... bait and switch. There never was a damaged unit that fell off the truck during delivery. I've had the "damaged unit" con pulled on me a few times. Did not buy from these "stealerships"

I know... just playing along ;) I've never had it pulled on me, but if so, I'd like to see the car.

back in the 80,s when the caravan was king we featured 2 stk # at a stupid price .

one van was blue with red guts the other was red with blue guts.

Every person who looked at them whould always cover their eyes and ask to see the non sale units.when the new model year rolled around we swapped the guts on the vans and sold them at msrp. :P

    Deskman,

I'm glad you're sharing. Do what you need to do. If someone reads theses posts and then decides that all salespeople do certain things, then so be it. They wouldn't have believed that there were decent folks selling cars anyhow.

    Funny stuff, keep entertaining.

and getting the payment into the $240's. She decided, we'll go with the Sonata, don't need to test drive the Civic. Hate to say it, but it feels so good to sell a Hyundai to a person(s) who was seriously thinking about a Honda!! (Yes, Honda is a great product).

    Nice job

    Jip!!!

Not everyone posting here can be skipping through daisies. It's ying and yang. Joel balances out the good side and Deskman for the dark side. If we just had a bunch of squeeky clean salesmen running around in here then the balance would be offset and everyone would start thinking the good salespeople are the bad ones.

C'mon!!! You know better than this. Keep the balance!

Perhaps I am again being pessimistic, but I have a hard time believing anyone could be so arrogant and cold hearted. If deskman is indeed legit, I agree... let him post away. His dark and evil ways of selling cars will make the rest of you guys look like saints... and will be a heads up to us consumers in what to watch out for.

Ok so deskman is the bad guy all of a sudden. I would have to disagree. The reason he is a bad guy is because he is making $8000 ( sales mans payable gross $4500 pack $3500 ) gross deals and talking about how screamer adds.

Here is the thing though... The dealership is selling cars.... :shades:

If they are getting away with those prices you can't blame deskman... That is what his market is doing. If everyone in that market is doing it than so be it.

I have heard for a long time that dealers in Florida get all the money :)

Is every market like that out there... no... But that is what it is down there on the east coast of Florida.

I know this much... My market here in Boston is way to competitive to be having a $3500 pack... Like someone else mentioned earlier most of my used car deals are $2000- $3000 plus back end. Sometimes they are for a total front end of $400 gross.

I think you get what I am saying... Could he be a troll... who knows, he does have some things down to sound credible to me.

Have a great day and Merry Christmas........... Happy Hanaka.........

Allright then. This is a serious question and no hidden agenda:

When once in a while you meet a confident, educated, well prepared customer and it is clear right away that tricks will be detected and "punished" (by walking away, basically) - do you stop or still try? I just like to see the mindset - what's worse, losing the customer altogether or making too small profit?

Jip, all deskman is doing is reiterating what we have all been accused of on this and all other forums - true in many cases. As long as it never happened to you, don't worry about it.
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
Well, now that you're selling Porsche you'll never have the opportunity to try and sell me teh mop and glow. A real shame. ;)

I've managed to avoid that on every car except the first new one. I'm likely to move back into the world of buying two year old used. I ahven't had anyone try to sell it to me on a used car - yet.

Good afternoon all! So, I am really digging on this whole issue. In EVERY industry, there will always be the the good vs. the evil. Both types see success on some level. Some people get duped and blinded by the bad ones (who are just really good at their job as a sales person) and some people support the good (by understanding that we are honest people with real family and real lives, etc...just trying to make a paycheck). It is a pure balance...and no matter how hard some of us work to be forthright and honest, there will always be that one person to ruin it for everybody. It is a consumers job to see the truth and judge from there.

    1 . Laydown. :)

They ask to have their head ripped off. always great csi and they enjoy very minute of buying a car.The Laydown understands dealerships are not a non profit.

    2. Get me done.

Just happy to be riding. GMD understands dealerships are not a non profit.Good Csi.

    3.Split the difference guy. :)

Works you hard and wants to leave with car and head. Diff guy understands dealerships are not a non profit.Good Csi.

    4 The Dealership Troll :lemon:

Troll takes at least 4 months to buy but insists on coming in every few days to waste your time.when he does eventually buys its a mini and bad csi.

    5. Internet guy

Internet guy wants your holdback, dealercash, pdi money, bank flat and the salesmans factory spiff. internet guy is bad csi ,after 4 months of ownership he finds a dealer that would have sold it for $25 less.

    Anyone have any to add?

This cracks me up...I feel the same way. You can never feel guilty about the way someone chooses to spend their money! Definately not my prerogative to worry about that...my only hope is they choose to spend it with me.

Being the internet guy, I demand your this year's Christmas bonus, VIP program combined with trippled coupon. My eight-year-old trade is worth at least three grand over Blue Book retail of course with excellent condition rating. :P

I am absolutely convinced I should be your dream customer, as I really know what I want and what I don't. Even though I have invoice and holdback amounts in front of me to the cent, I'm totally convince you have five grant in factory bonuses hidden in this car.

Anyone wanting to sell me car today ? ;)

AHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Get off my lot you crazy psycho! I wish I could say things like that sometimes and not lose my livelihood over it. Not in many recent months, but I previously worked finance in a high volume Toyota store and there were SOOOOO many customers like this...I was a therapist to the sales guys so I got to hear about it all the time.

    I'm still laughing!
  • dino001dino001 Member Posts: 6,191
I think there are two types of "internet/sledgehammer" guys. The ones Deskman and LRGuy are talking about (probably majority).

Then there are the ones who actually do have idea how much is enough so when they get it they sign on the dotted line and send the perfect score. They don't care if they had to get there with some hammering, they just know the dealer "laid down", so they are happy with their experience.

The reason he is a bad guy is because he is making $8000

No, it's because he takes delight in clubbing a member of our military out of $2,000... condoning lieing to customers by his sales staff. It's because he is proud of his bait and switch tactics which include lieing to the customer about a vehicles avalilblity. And because he rips the "guts" out of new vehicles selling them as new to gullible customers... and that's only one day of posts worth!

moo making 50k a year is jumped all over for telling a customer to get lost. This guys lies and cheats customers out of money, and because he claims to make $750,000 is put on a pedastel. Makes me wonder how many of you salespeople
use similar tactics, but until now were afraid to speak up. Kudo's to you joel for speaking out... next time I'm buying Ford. ;)

The Dealer can put his own rebate on a used car. The rebate is off deskman motors list price for that used car.

And everyone in the business knows that no 2 used cars are the same so dealer is free to price for local market.
  • lrguy44lrguy44 Member Posts: 2,197
Jip, Cool it. I can laugh at these stories even if I and my dealership do not take part in these practices. If you knew the LR Way you would know that. But you tuned in for "Stories from the Frontlines" and deskman is regurgitating everything that has happened in many stores with many customers. Laugh with the rest of us. Don't take it so seriously.

I think Deskman is pulling Moo... ;) He also had a rocky start, when his first stories and jokes did not play well with a few people here. Yet, we both (i.e. Moo and the rest) adjusted he sticked around. So perhaps Deskman's stories (and attitudes) are real, perhaps he is just pulling Moo. Either way, let it be.
