Jmonroe and I have pulled the trigger. I'm hoping that you'll be next. It's not because misery loves company. It's because you still think about it and you do deserve it. The dealer is still in contact with you. That's a good sign. Keep the dialogue going and you may be a member of the New Car Club. If it's what you want, the deal may present itself. I'll keep pulling for you.
BTW, I saw some posts once again regarding Direct Buy. I'm so glad that you avoided that avenue. My next door neighbor spent thousands to save hundreds. On top of that, he had to send so many defective things back and wait for new ones to arrive. The house was to take a year to build by contracting things out. Due to Direct Buy, it was close to two years before completion. They finally moved in just before Christmas. The terrible thing is that they have now filed for divorce. The strain of it all must have been too much.

Yeah it is something I used never dream of before.... as I said though if he comes back and that vehicle arrives off the truck that day than I will do it. So will management, heck we may even do it on a locate.... but chances are with a guy like that. He will never come back. He will go to so mant dealers and get tired and give up. I mean he is not even driving anything just coming in and starting a fight about price..... Oh well, all you cna do is just move on.

Don’t try to push that one along. I had to make this purchase seem like it was her idea all along and I finally pulled it off.
While this plan was in the works she said, “where is all this money coming from, if you can show me that, I’d say fine”. So I said, “the back yard”. You see, she’s been after me to plant some shrubs in the back yard for a couple years now and I told her every time I tried to put a shovel in the ground I kept hitting another coffee can. Then I said, “the only way to plant something is to get rid of something a couple plants over there and a couple over there and we’ll have enough for the Genny”. She said, “oh, I forgot about all of those. That’s a good idea”.
I knew I could do it. Why was everyone here so doubtful?

I have to agree with Isell 100 % on this one. Maybe , just maybe... some of those numbers are real, but how long was the vehicle on the property.... was there a trade? I'll bet there was!
THe SM doesn't have any reason to lie about invoices because that info is out there.... :surprise:
I understand you are just looking for your best deal. But I bet a lot of times your lowest price comes with horrible service

Also I understand when you are paying thousands for a vehicle you forget that the dealership actualy paid for that vehicle. And when consumers shop, chissel, grind the price down.... all you are really doing is hurting a businees that is supposed to be there for you when you need servicing. I have plenty of customers that didn't mind paying PROFIT.... and when they need a rental ($35 for a day)... we don't mind helping them out. Dealerships are (the good ones) can be good for a community.... they pay taxes, they contribute to little league teams, high school teams, the list can go on and on..... but everyone wants to say they beat the dealer :sick:

Delaerships are closing.... everyone is saying it. The competition is getting smaller. Ya know what that means? Dealers can start charging more :P

Ya know I was trying not to jump on exbo about this, and if I did a little my appologies.
The reason I am apologising is.... When I think about it the salesman didn't do his job. Yes he tried to qualify him as exbo stated... and Exbo.... you should have been upfront about the situation but my point here is..... A god salesman will be able to uncover those "hot buttons".... reasons for buying..... how they are going buy.... and why they are not buyin right now.

If the salesman was able to tell you he would get you the vehicle you wanted, equiped the way you wanted, at a price you felt comfortable with...... Would you have done the deal pending your your financial transaction with Honda? Would you have signed a purchase and sale, give a deposit (refundable of course if something devastating happened) and basically purchased a vehcile?
Now ..... if you couldn't come to a agreement with figures than I wouldn't expect you to buy...... but if you could have, would you.
I would have asked or found out along the way what was going n with your situation. If I don't uncover all the facts about you buying a car than I am not doing my job.
Do I have bad days were I am not on my game? of course.... there are days I don't want to talk to anybody.....
But what I believe is you are shopping.... sometimes it is said that people are shopping for a sales person to sell them a car. At the end of the day it is all about who is selling who. You are selling them, and they are selling you..... I think that is what negotiations really are.... OK I am headed off my soap box.

Sure a negative tone can rat some guys out but you need to have perserverance! I will still say you weren't dealing with a "good" salesperson. A sale manager (closer) can't do his job unless the salesman doesn't do his job..... uncovering your reasons, and one of your reasons is how you plan on buying.... they go hand in hand. But in the end it all comes down to dollars and cents..... If it doesn't make sense for either party.... than you can't come to agreement. You end up going somewhere else where some other sales person uncovers this information and you buy!

I'll definitely remind you because I'll be watching! I really like the kind of shows where they go up to the presidents of companies and ask them why this is going on. They chase these con artists down the street and try to talk to them while they drive off in their cars.

One of the recent shows showed how the HeartSmart Choices on the menu in many restaurants are way over the limit in salt. And, the restaurant pays the Heartsmart people a few $1000 to put their logo on the menu.
I will have a reminder though after the show...I can hardly wait! In the preview the customer is almost in tears because Direct Buy was forcing her to buy stuff :sick:

But, if you spent 4 hours (4 HOURS?) at a Toyota dealership looking at Siennas, you're going to make yourself crazy. There can't be that many variations of a Sienna. Plus, I'm a bit surprised a sales person hung with you that long. Unless, you're Jipster, who drinks all of the dealership's free coffee and sodas, and empties their vending machines before he even begins looking at a vehicle.
You don't have enough information to make a deal right now. You don't know what the Honda check for the buyback is going to be worth. You're bouncing between two vehicles (Sienna and Ody). The time frame to purchase is fuzzy, too.
Most dealerships (if not all), can deliver a vehicle to you the same day you walk into their store. So, you don't have to worry about taking delivery immediately.
Wait until you have the check in hand. Once you've got that firmly in hand, set up an appointment with one of the sales people via phone. Walk in. Tell them what you want. It doesn't matter if your wife, your cousin, your niece, your sister, etc does all the talking. If they can get what you're looking for, you're half way there. Explain your situation. Tell them the price you want to pay. They'll try to bump you. If you don't want to be bumped, tell them your offer is firm. If they can't meet it, walk away. Should take all of 20 minutes, max.
Richard, I know that Direct Buy advertises a bunch. I've yet to hear one person tell me it was a "good deal".
Regarding my shopping, I wouldn't really call it shopping. Seems as if most dealerships are really turning up the "incentives" to get people in their doors, for any reason. Think I mentioned, free gas, free car washes, free oil changes, gift cards, free food/drink to come see our cars.....just come in the door. No problem for me. I'll bite. It works to a certain extent. I never would have been behind the wheel of a Genesis, nor a new TL if they hadn't done that. Wouldn't have even thought about it.
As much as I know that isell hates to hear this, the dealerships are making no bones about how this economic malaise has affected their business. No real work involved in getting skinny deals right now....some of them eating into their holdback to make a deal.
I don't know if I can get a dealership to overallow much on my Tahoe. Still, it's a nice vehicle. But, it's worth what it's worth. I do know I can make a heck of a deal on either a Genesis or a TL, right now, though. I'm not giving them much room to work on the purchase of either car. So, not much they can do on the trade side, unless they're really motivated to move some iron.
The dealerships don't want your Tahoe.
They really aren't selling even though the price of gas has come down.
You see, Madman, I know it will come as a surprise to you, but some salespeople are not as patient, courteous and tactful as you are. Some salespeople do get angry and call their customers names like “Cooch”. But we know you will never do that.

Probably every car has a price that someone will purchase it for, just might be too low to trade-in. There's always someone who wants a large 4 wheel drive vehicle for work or large families.
It's usually a salesperson who gives you all the bad news - how they can't sell your trade-in for one reason or another - is there a special car sales course that teaches you all the reasons your trade in is worthless?????

I've heard about entertaining the kids and all of that. Personally, I think you give them a book to read, give them a road game to play ("I saw a.....") and that should be the extent of it.
I've never had the desire to pull over to a rest stop and watch a movie on a tiny screen. I just don't get it.
Anyway, I want $25K on trade. Dealers are stuck in the $20K-$21K range on a trade.
I don't know if they'd send it to Manheim or not. Seems to be an awfully nice vehicle to do that. But, if demand's not there, it's not there.
It is what it is. If I were in the market for one (big IF) and I could find one as nice as mine for $27K, I'd jump all over it (MSRP $51K+).
If that's the case, I may not be that far off in my thinking.

I’ll go along with some dealers willing to go into their holdback. How else did my dealer in Ohio have such a good internet price on the Genesis? The closest internet price I got here in the Burgh was $1365 MORE and the other dealer here was $2039 MORE and on top of that, neither of them had the car I wanted. There was no way the local guys could sell me a car with their prices let alone their selection.
Take into account the price on the new car and then what appeared to be an over allowance on my trade (initial price $9,000, bumped up to $9,600) and the guy in Ohio made a sale. I know my trade will fetch top dollar when it goes on their lot but they obviously felt they could get it or they wouldn’t have made the deal. As bad as times are for dealers right now they still have to make money or they won’t do the deal. It’s just as we’ve been saying for a while now, some dealers will make the adjustment for the times and others think they can still hold onto higher profits. Time will tell.
‘graph’, I’ve driven that Genny on the PA Turnpike back and forth to work yesterday and to work this morning and all I can say is, that is that is some ride alright. Not trying to rub it in but I’m sure you’d like the ride as well.

If they are going through the auction at 20,000, it is unlikely they will pay you 25,000 for yours UNLESS they are making some money on the car they sell you.
I run into this constantly. People want a nothing deal on a new car but they demand top dollar for their trade! It doesn't work that way!
We don't care what KBB or any "guide" tells you what your trade is "worth". We know what we can buy them for and we know it will be a hard to sell unit that will probably sit on our lot for three months.
It's very simple actually yet some people get so frustrated.
That dealer did what he had to do to make a sale. I suspect, as nice as they are the Hyundai you bought isn't a fast moving car. The market determines what a store will sell a car for.
Your trade may sell quickly or it may sit on his lot for months.
Would you track your trade on the used car listings for the dealer in Ohio where you traded it? See what their asking price is and how long they have it on their used car lot.

‘isell’, just a little levity here, I’m not arguing. It is a “fast moving car” but I know what you mean and I don’t think it is.
As for my trade, I truly believe it will bring top buck because it was that nice (‘jip’ eat your heart out). But if it does, by chance, sit on their lot for a while I can’t be responsible for that. I got what I wanted.
I’m going to have some fun with keeping an eye on their web site when my car hits their lot. I’m curious as to what they will have it priced at. I’m sure it won’t sell for that (at least I hope it doesn’t , otherwise I got snookered) but I just want to see it priced.

Then again, just looking at the online classifieds, there are two '07 Tahoes equipped similar to mine. Both dealer sales....$30K-$31K asking price. I'm thinking they've got $25K in them...maybe put another $500 on them to make them "pretty and to smell new".
Now, we know they won't sell for that, but these are all just "markers" as to how I came up with my figure.
If they're running across the auction blocks at $20K, that's the best I can hope for. I don't know that, though.
If a deal is going to go down, a dealership is going to want to put the Tahoe on the front line of their used lot. As you say, they may not want it on the lot.
And, I know I've given neither they Hyundai, nor the Acura dealership any wiggle room on the new car side to overallow on the trade.

Well, may be a ounce or two of truth in that. Perhaps that is why Hyundai didn't go to a luxury division, like Lexus or Acura. They hope to use the Genesis name to bring up the low resale values of the rest of their line-up. With Genesis priced thousands less than the competition, I really don't see the high level of depreciation occurring with it as with the rest of the Hyundai cars. It will be interesting to see what 2 or 3 year old Genesis es will go for down the road. Maybe, they are on the way to topping Honda in resale value. :surprise:
That will never happen but if by chance the stars should happen to re-align, that means 'isell' will have to switch brands. You know he has to work for the best. :shades:

I think the salesman told me the turbo 4 cyl would come in at under $25K.
It's an impressive piece.
I think Hyundai is on a roll with the Sonata, Genesis Sedan and Genesis Coupe.
From what I see about the coupe it is sport machine with a small V6 compared to the V8 option available in the 4 dr. sedan.
Also if luxury means a higher priced car the coupe falls short there too. I just looked at the coupe here at Edmunds and the most expensive version (with all options) is the 3.8 Track 2dr. priced at $31,875. I’m not saying it isn’t a good car and worth the money but I don’t think it conveys luxury either.

Nope not so different here.... I always get a little nervous when someone has one for a trade because they always think it is worth the moon. I agree with you that they can be a lot money for the vehcile but you have to find the right buyer.... not so easy.
