    New? It was just a face lift. They did add DI to the engine, but that's a face lift. The big Santa Fe is the new one.

    The ad is funny, with the guy crawling out of the cargo area and hitting the power hatch button.

    All the Kate Upton ad is lacking is a trampoline. :D

    I hate that ad. It offends me that anyone would do that to a car. Just waiting to get a well deserved ding from the owner of the edge he parked next to!

    Apparently BMW and Mercedes have made some commercials to appeal to wanna-be recliner chair racers. Don't know how smart that is in that my observation is that many old people drive Mercedes and many BMW drivers appear to want to show and advertise their image of sophistication. Lots of show, no go.

    The only poster that I have seen on this board that probably understands "real" performance driving outside a closed circuit is roadburner. He has related his experience in the Alaska far north road rallye.

    Old people don't want to be reminded that they are old and driving an old man's car. Again, easy to sell an old man a young man's car, vice versa is impossible save for fun eccentrics like andre, lemko, and tjc78 :shades: Hmm...maybe I should include myself in that, as I have to be one of the youngest fintail owners out there (esp as I bought it at 18), and I call the modern car "grandpa's E55" :shades:

    Some Mercedes commercials try to set an image of Mercedes being sporting and good handling perhaps by staging a commercial with a Mercedes sliding around a Hollywood street scene with a guy looking macho, windows open in a car. How many buyers of a Mercedes that were influenced by that commercial actually had experience in doing that maneuver ever in their lives? Far less than 0.01 percent or less?

    Will one out of 10,000 or out of 100,000 or one out of 1,000,000 new car Mercedes drivers ever put their car in a slide in a turn on a gravel road? How many would voluntarily and for FUN drive on a gravel road. Oh no. They would say that is stupid and also would say might get their car scratched by gravel.

    Those types of commercials have been around for a long time and they don't seem to hurt sales.
    I live in central CT. My personal best time to my SIL's in Michigan (690 miles) is 10 1/2 hours. It included 1 stop for fuel, 2 border crossings, and no tickets.
    Feel free to try and top that 'outside a closed course' performance. :shades:

    MB wants more of a sporting image. No different than a leased RX in front of a million dollar house, or an A6 spending Christmas at the inherited mansion, or an Infiniti minivan going up to the cabin that's nicer than 95% of residential homes. It is all desired ideals. Doesn't seem to be hurting sales, even if it is artificial. Image trumps reality.

    Sales are healthy with it. So long as that's the case, such ads are here to stay.

    Speaking of annoying commercials, the RX "F-Sport" spot with the page turning and dubbed in engine noise is back. Not fooling anyone, I hope.

    My best long run was from Cincinnati to Hilton Head, SC...

    675 miles... Made it in exactly ten hours (right to the hotel on the beach), and that included a stop at Cracker Barrel (one hour!), that my girlfriend insisted on.... plus two stops for gas...

    I averaged around 77 mph, without counting the three stops.. 67.5 mph overall... I thought that was pretty good..

    okay.. I was in a Porsche 911

    My best long run was 31,042 miles, averaged about 103 miles a day overall. :P

    Should be a list for the 10 worst. The suicidal GM robot one would be number one. Must be the worst car commercial ever.

    Some years ago, wife and I went from NE Illinois to Denver at average of "actual" 67+ mph in a Pontiac Firebird. This included very brief and quick stops for gasoline and washroom. We were prepared with sandwiches and soft drinks/water and did not need food stops. Had calibrated our odo to true miles well before the trip, so was able to compensate for odo error. Notations are long gone, but think that distance for us was about 1,000 miles.

    Favorite is the young man thinking he is getting a yellow Camaro convertible for his graduation. His excitement, including by his girl friend, and then the letdown. Very good marks for GM and Chevrolet for airing this commercial.

    I still love the Statham/Audi spot. The less than subtle crashing a MB and BMW, and ignoring a Lexus, classic. I just notice the Supercamry he avoids is wearing WA plates, too.

    Not really. Could have just been a shined up heap, and either way, a 108 like that isn't particularly rare or valuable, and could have been fixed if one wanted. At worst, a waste of an old car, but it happens.

    People here in Northern Illinois will probably be rooting for Jim Harbaugh and the 49ers. Jim played for the Bears as quarterback when Mike Ditka was da coach. Remember Ditka reading out Jim at times upon apparent bad plays by Jim.

    Oh, just riffing on how the Patriot's defense apparently ran out of gas defending against the Ravens. Seemed to be a common comment about the game; really, a pretty common comment about a lot of games.

    And Hyundai/Kia had a wee bit of trouble with the EPA recently when some of their mpg claims couldn't be verified. So if you coached to think you were going to get 40 mpg and then...well, you know. You'd run out of gas.

    Too much of a stretch eh? :blush:

    I'm pretty familiar with the Patriots, although I will never call myself a fan anymore. Last time in 1985.
    Once Talib went out, the secondary had to switch responsibilities and Boldin was able to dominate.
    Flacco was able to throw in the windy conditions better than Brady.
    Other than that, I still confused.

    That's a little all over the place. Perhaps too long, too many characters.

    Would be funnier if they split it in to several 30 second spots that focused on one at a time.

    Always liked Jimmy Cliff, though. :shades:

    It's a preview like the Kate Upton MB preview. "Time to Get Happy" may be a new tagline for them.

    I envision a shorter version with some of the "sad" and "angry" characters of the internet.

    Hyundai is trying to go mainstream in a big way. Remember, just a couple of years ago they were telling people how to pronounce Hyundai.

    I'd say they are mainstream now. Hitting Honyota size will be a long way off now, but they are not seen as a weird or bad car by most, now.

    I like specific models, but that includes the Genesis.

    Funny thing is it has almost nothing on my wish list (I'm shopping for a fun and efficient hatch), but it's arguably the nicest car I can find under $30k ($29,957 freight included).

    2 years ago they cleared them out for $27,999 and anyone who snapped one up got a steal. You just know they lost money on that.

    I suspect a base one can be found cheaply - lots of fleet dumps for them now, so there is stock laying around. It's value, but is crossing into "big and cheap" territory - looking old fast, even with the lighting.

    Honda copied the rear for the new Accord. Looks good, too (the non-hybrid).

    Both are big for DC driving. My minivan feels like a bull in a china shop downtown.

    Do we know that's what they copied? Tracing back a lineage can be hard.

    Genesis might be one of the few things left to appeal to the crown Vic set - it has taken that position in some rental fleets (a much nicer car of course).

    Some pretty strong inspiration out there, then.

    There are plenty of shapes - the key is making them look right. Some design departments seem to do better at this than others.

    That Kia ad proves I am not the target demographic!

    In the mid-80s, I had a part-time job driving a shuttle bus for a hotel. One day, airport pickup was for Jimmy Cliff and his orchestra. Very cool. :)

    I also don't have a ball and chain/gang of rats following me around, so my need for a mommymobile crossover kid hauler is low :shades:

    I can see the Soul driving down that age a lot.
