I have Camry hybrid w/ nav and LG VX8100 phone. I always need to input the passkey on my phone every time the car is started. I have tried pairing the Camry with another phone and it only required to enter the passkey the first time it was paired.

also my phone has been paired with a Jabra headset which only required the passkey to be set only once.

Any suggestions that I can do to only set the passkey once?

    thanks!

I have paired my blackberry to the camry bluetooth; however, when trying to pair the Treo 700, the bluetooth finds no phone. I read the suggestion to change the passkey to 0000 but I don't see a way to do that. Any suggestions on setting up the Treo 700.

Is it possible to disable the Bluetooth in the Toyota Camry XLE car? I don't plan to use the Bluetooth gadgets and don't want to deal with side effects of radio waves from the car. Please help. Thanks!
  • car111car111 Member Posts: 24
I wish to avoid radiation issues from bluebooth. So I will not pair my phone with bluetooth. But is there a way to switch bluetooth completely off (ie disable it) - this way it does not transmit any electrical/wireless signal. I don't get headaches from cordless but get them from my cellphone. Toyota mentioned you can't switch if off and if you can withstand listening to radio, bluetooth is same. How can it be since bluetooth is transmitter, while radio is receiving. Also bluetooth is constant transmitting something looking for phones, etc ?

Also are they are security issues - someone outside connecting to it and listening to people in car, etc.

I'm ready to upgrade my Motorola V710 phone. I have '07 Camry XLE, no nav. I'd love to upgrade to the Treo but not sure it's compatible anymore. Any other suggestions? As long as it pairs with the car, all the other bells and whistles it comes with will be fine with me!! Oh, and I am with Verizon...
  • mdchachimdchachi Member Posts: 275
If you have not paired any devices to your vehicle, I don't think it will send out any Bluetooth signals. There would be no reason for it.

Anyway as Toyota said, radio signals are all around us. Bluetooth is the same in that respect. Yes, the transmitter is in the car but it's very low energy.

As far as security goes, you have to implement a connection from the vehicle. There is no way for somebody else to connect to it.

How can I get the "Dial By Name"-when I press the Talk Switch, I get "wait for tone" then "say the number". I have placed a voice tag on all my numbers but how can I get it to dial by name instead of by number. I tried saying "Dial Home" but it gives me the help screen. What am I doing wrong?
  • pharrisonpharrison Member Posts: 3
Are you actually saying the voice command "dial by name" after you push the talk button? It should recognize the "dial by name" command then prompt you for the name (voice tag).

Hello to the forum members. I just purchased a 2007 Camry SE V6 yesterday. I figured out some of the bluetooth features. When I tried to put in phone numbers by voice, it seems to hear different numbers than I said or adds extra numbers. There is no way to train it to one's voice as some voice recognition programs do. Has anyone else had this issue?

So far after less than 24 hours, I like the car.

Thanks Bluetoothguy, I was able to pair my Telus Treo 650, but then it was not recognized over and over. I gave up for a day thinking it was yet another Palm software screwup...don't get me started... The key was, as you said, make a call after pairing in order to make the phone - Camry connection 'Friendly'. My phonebook did not download but babysteps. The voice activation is awesome, even with a Canadian accent. Thanks eh.
  • mdchachimdchachi Member Posts: 275
Try talking clearly but naturally. If you speak slowly or enunciate too much, it is more likely to misrecognize.

Hi All, I'm thinking about upgrading my phone to the Moto Q. Does anyone know if it's compatible with the Camry's bluetooth system?

Hi. I bought my camry back in February. I have a SE 4 cynl. with standard radio. I would like to add Bluetooth to it. I was told by the dealership I could do this later. Has anyone done this or know about how much this will cost me? Thanks in advance.

I currently own a 2007 Camry XLE. I do not have a navigation system with my bluetooth. I am a Verizon wireless customer. My phone is the LG 8300 and I am due to upgrade. Question: Do you have any recommendations as to a service provider or a phone model? I heard, for example, from one staff member at Toyota that Cingular was more compatible than Verizon with Toyota's bluetooth technology. Is this true? Are there any ATT / Cingular customers out there who would agree? Does anyone have a recommendation regarding a particular phone model, whether Verizon or ATT / Cingular?

    Thank you,

    Andrew

I paired my i880 with the car. I can receive calls with no problems. I can dial by number, no problems. But when I dial a number directly onto my phone or browse a contact and press the "send/make call" button on the phone, 1 out of 10 times will the Camry connect the call through the sound system. the rest of the times you can't hear anything through the car nor through the phone. anyone has had this problem?

and another question. This phone is also a Nextel radio. is it even possible to use the PTT radio with the BT system? i once heard an alert, couldn't reply back, then one time the other person heard a "bump" noise, other than that haven't figured it out.

    Thanks.

    Hi,
I just bought the 07 Camry XLE too. I have ATT cellular and use a RAZOR by Motorola. It works fine. I notice that if you have your air conditioning vents pointing up towards the microphone, people can't hear you well or it causes interference. My problem is "call waiting"! When I am on the phone and another call comes in, I don't know how to answer it, so I ignore it. Then it disconnects the current call I am on! Help!

I cannot get my JBL system to recognize any sound. Trying to Pair Phone/Name phone, but it keeps saying Pardon? Any suggestions as to how to get the JBL system on my 2007 Camry to hear me?
  • mdchachimdchachi Member Posts: 275
Sounds like the microphone is not working or not connected properly. The dealer should fix this under warranty.

I am seriously considering a switch from Verizon to AT&T. Does anyone have any recommendations for bluetooth models that are compatible with the 07 Camry? How well does the iPhone pair with the Camry bluetooth software?

Did you ever get any answers to this? I am having the same problem. I have a Verizon Wireless Motorola RZR V3m. JBL system. Everything paired fine, I manaully added all my phone book information, the sound quality in the car is great, all features work as they should however when I get calls the person calling me says it sounds really noisy in my car and I sound like I am in a tunnel. My husband has the same phone and has also paired his phone. I called when he was driving my car and it sounded horrible, I accused him of having the window open. Any advice :( ?

I also have the LG 8300. A clerk at a Verizon store in New York told me not to bother upgrading right now because the phone I have is supposed to be one of the best on the market and that Verizon is coming out with new model(s) in September / October. Meanwhile I am seriously considering changing to AT&T. For AT&T users in Greenville, SC, HOW IS THE COVERAGE???

    Thank you,

    Andrew

By the title of your message I would have guessed that you have an LG8300, but I guess not (you have a Motorola). No, I have not received a direct response to my question. Good luck with your question.

I have a Camry 2007 XLE without NAV. I have a Treo 750. Any suggestions on how to enter a phone number into the phonebook including the extra digits? For example, I would like to program my voicemail password as one of my entries. Thanks.

Bluetoothguy, did you ever hear back from this poster, on whether he was able to get this problem taken care of.
  • car_addictcar_addict Member Posts: 6
I have a different but perhaps related problem. My wife's 2007 Camry (no Nav) worked well with our phones for a couple months, but in the last few months it randomly stops "hearing" the driver's voice. This can happen in the middle of a conversation, when I hear her voice fade away, but she can hear me fine - we've experimented and I can talk as long as I want and she hears me clearly, but all I hear is "dead air." When the sound input fails, it stays failed. The voice recognition also stops, i.e. it just says "Pardon?" every time she presses the talk button - just like it would do if you said nothing. She pulls over, turns the car off and then back on to bring the system back to life. The dealer doesn't know what's wrong.

    Any ideas?

Anyone else have this glitch where about 1 in 10 times (or slightly more in my case) the call does not seem to get to the stereo system?

About 25% of the time when I choose a number to dial from the phone, it does not 'connect' with my stereo.

My phone is dialing and I know I am connected b/c people have told me that I called but they could not hear me. Usually the stereo turns off and it goes into phone mode when I dial, but about 25% of the time it does not and I cannot use the actual phone or the stereo system so I am in limbo. The stereo continues to play music or whatever like normal and my phone is connected.

I used to have a Razr w/ T-Mobile, and now I have a Sprint/Nextel phone and it has happened on both phones.

    Any ideas?

Also I have gotten wlakie talkie to work once or twice and it hasn't once so I'm not sure how it should work.
  • kimcaitkimcait Member Posts: 6
Yes, I have had this same issue. I have the JBL w/ no nav. The dealer has actually replaced my entire stereo unit and now it happens more often. So often in fact that I don't even use my bluetooth anymore. I was tired of making calls and people couldn't hear me. I felt that the distraction of making the call twice (after figuring out what was up) was far more dangerous that just picking up my phone. This issue along with the "tunnel" effect that the people that I was talking to kept complaining about, just don't make the "hands free" worth it. Oh, and I started out with Cingular Razr and actually changed carriers and phone to Verizon with LG8300 because I was told this would remedy some of my problems.....they only got worse.....I think it's just too new technology to expect it to work well!!

psk and kimcait (and others too):

Do you feel that your audio system is not listening to your voice? Like the microphone isn't working?

That's what I get. For example, I can hear the other person speaking, but they can't hear me. Or I can push the talk button on the steering wheel and the stereo beeps, but then it does not hear the voice command.

Anyone else: Is this a common problem?
  • pskpsk Member Posts: 18
No I don't believe it is anything related to my voice b/c I don't use voice commands.

When I dial I pick up my phone and choose who to call from my phone and then hit dial on my phone, 75% of the time the stereo turns off and the word dialing (or connecting??) shows up on my non-Nav stereo and I can talk/hear and no issue.

25% of the time the stereo keeps playing music, and my phone shows connected so I know I have called/am calling someone. I have verified w/ who I have connected that they answer my call and I'm not there.

The failure rate on outgoing calls is reaching 80-90% now.

I took it to the dealer and after they had my car for a day they had no idea. They called Toyota the next day and Toyota said to replace my radio head unit.

    SO that will happen tomorrow.
  • car_addictcar_addict Member Posts: 6
psk: please let us know how that turns out! I'm trying to decide whether its better to have a factory installed but intermittent system, or a dealer-repaired but perhaps better hardware. What a choice!
  • kimcaitkimcait Member Posts: 6
This is the same chain of events that took place with my Camry. As mentioned on posting #384, the dealer also replaced my head unit....the problem has been worse since then!!
  • pskpsk Member Posts: 18
Well as kimcaait predicted changing the head unit did not help the problem. It seems about as bad as before. Now the dealer has no idea what to do and has basically given up.

Has anyone had this problem and gotten it fixed?

Can anyone help me out? I had a TREO that would not work, i purchased an 8525 because it was on the Toyota Websiet as a phone that was ompatible, but now it is removed. What should I do? Also does anyone know how to turn off the rediculous safety feature that won't allow mw to dial a phone number while I am driving? I heard there was a way to turn this off.
  • jeffahjeffah Member Posts: 1
i don't think that this is a head unit issue nor a phone issue. i've suffered from the same problems. talking to someone over the bluetooth connection, when they tell me that my voice is fading out. then they can no longer hear me. i dont belive it is bluetooth, because i can still hear the other party without any problems. its not my phone because my bluetooth headset works fine if i pair it with the phone. something leads me to believe that it may have something to do with the noise cancelling functionality of the microphone. toyota dealerships have no idea whats up and naturally it doesnt replicate while its at the shop.

I just bought a Katana 8500 DLX cell phone (Sprint) and wanted to let anyone who is considering this phone with the XLE w/ Navigation system that it functions well. I was able to transfer my address book (about 70 entries) without any problems. The signal strength bar shows on my screen as well as the name and phone numbers of incoming calls. The ww2.toyota.letstalk.com web site is a great resource for comparing phone compatibility but the Katana DLX was not one of the phones listed, but I took a chance and all is well. I could not be happier with the car or the phone and recommend both.
  • bluetoothguybluetoothguy Member Posts: 89
Everyone. The issues with the call not being reported to the vehicle handsfree system is being introduced because you are placing calls from the phones keypad. If you use the handsfree dialing function, you should not see this issue. If you prefer to dial from the phone's keypad, try a different phone and I almost guarantee that the problem will be fixed (different manufacturer).

As stated previously, the Palm devices have poorly implemented Bluetooth functions that will cause many issues when using them with any handsfree system.

The issues with the microphone losing the audio connection seems strange. I think that might warrant a trip to the dealership. If they can't figure it out, try changing the phone or the handsfree system.

Just reporting that I bought a 2007 Camry XLE from fitzmall.com this past Sunday. Paired my pda phone with the Camry Bluetooth with no problem. Didn't have time to attempt to transfer any phonebook entries via Bluetooth, but found that they were very easy to enter manually.

My wife says I sound better on the Camry speakerphone that I have for the past two year either on the phone directly or through headsets.
  • bigmike2bigmike2 Member Posts: 96
Only had my XLE for a couple of weeks and the Bluetooth has worked wonderfully the whole time except once tonight after a stop for some cracklings. I have a Samsung SCH-i730 pda phone.

I got in, started up, drove about a mile and tried to place a call to my wife. The display showed the bluetooth was connected and that it was dialing, but I couldn't hear anything. I tried again and same thing, so I turned off the bluetooth on the phone and place the call and there was no problem. Wife said it had rung and she answered, but couldn't hear anything either.

Tried turning the bluetooth back on and calling voicemail, but still nothing. Tried rebooting the phone (It's windows mobile, so sometimes a reboot helps.) Still no luck.

I drove about 180 miles and then stopped for gas. When I got back in and restarted the engine, everything was normal again.

Anyone ever experience this? Anyone know of any button or combination of buttons or sequence of turning things on that I might have hit to cause this?

I don't think it was the cracklings.

    Thanks.

Does anyone know if it is possible to pair more then just your phone with the bluetooth sound system in the 08 Camry?
  • herrimherrim Member Posts: 14
Yes, I forgot the number of phones but definetely more than 1.
  • herrimherrim Member Posts: 14
Did it work? Since I bought my car I haven't been able to use properly, people don't hear me well, I have to yell so people can hear me, and when I make a call, sometimes it doesn't take. I biught a phone to be compatible witht he unit but I jsut waisted my money.

I think the system must be very smart golf or wife golf wife golf. :)
  • car_addictcar_addict Member Posts: 6
Yes, bigmike2, this is exactly the same problem I've experienced. It is now clear to me that the Camry's electronics are failing when connected to the phone. The dealer says it's because of the phone compatibility, but the experiences of others on this web site confirm that buying a new phone that's on the Toyota web site list is a waste of money, and on the other hand phones not on their list often work well. But your observation is the same as mine:

When the Camry loses it's ability to communicate with the phone, power cycling the PHONE never helps. Power cycling the CAR does cure the problem. I have observed this many times. Your observation is also key, i.e., the phone is capable of placing the call. I have also observed that, even with th phone off, the car no longer "hears" voice commands once it has entered it's failure mode. This is really very clearly a car problem, not a phone nor a bluetooth problem.

    So what to do?

Having a dealer replace the electronics does not help (kimcaait, psk and jeffa tried this). bigmike2 and I have exactly the same problem. So far, I've just shut off the bluetooth function of the Camry and let it go. Speaking as an electronics engineer, my opinion is that we're looking at a design flaw. Something in the Toyota electronics, such as the noise canceling circuitry, or the microphone/audio input circuitry or the computer logic that manages these functions intermittently fails when the bluetooth is in use. Once it fails, the system needs to be reset by power cycling the car. Design problems aren't solved by getting another part installed, since the replacement part is made to the same design.

I think we're ready to ask Toyota for a review of the electronics related to this function. They're a company that prizes reliability, so maybe they'll be interested. Anyone agree? Anyone know how to get to a corporate contact, not just a dealer or repair shop?
  • bigmike2bigmike2 Member Posts: 96
Actually, I haven't experienced the problem again and had forgotten about it.

I have experienced a couple of quirks related to user stupidity, e.g. shutting off the ignition while on the phone :) Turns out that the call didn't drop, but it was sure puzzling til I figured out I was still connected.
  • car_addictcar_addict Member Posts: 6
Thanks, bigmike2. Useful info. Maybe I do just have a failed piece of electronics, and it can be fixed and will work better.
  • bigmike2bigmike2 Member Posts: 96
It doesn't sound like this is the problem people are having, but am just throwing it out there for reference.

My PDA phone warns me when the battery gets down to 30%. I have MS voice command installed, so it actually says "battery is low". If I don't plug it into the car cord, not long after the warning, the bluetooth goes away. While I haven't researched it, it's pretty consistent and I think that the phone is turning off the bluetooth to conserve power when the battery gets to a certain level.

I have a Toyota Camry Hybrid with no navigation. The bluetooth connection with my Nokia 6682 phone has been unusable for the year I have owned the car. When I am speaking to someone through the system, I can hear them perfectly, but they tell me that my voice is "breaking up." If I switch to the handset, the person I am talking with hears me perfectly. I have been to two dealerships on four occasions. One of them replaced by microphone, but that didn't solve the problem. Calling Toyota's Customer Experience Center produced no results. In spite of the fact that there are may people on this site with bluetooth problems, Toyota says they are not familiar with any problems.
