How I got such a good price is by going to Canada. It was way under dealer invoice here in the US. No matter what you may hear otherwise, the US and Canadian vehicles are identical. Safety and emissions are the same (California too). The warranty is valid in the US. Going through Customs took about 20 minutes. Yes, there are a few forms to fill out, but it's easy. Registration here at home was no problem (same fees and taxes as if I'd bought it down the street).
The Canadian version of the QX4 comes loaded with 4wd, premium pkg, sport pkg, and sunroof. US list is $38,525 and dealer invoice is $34,899 according to Edmunds. With the exchange rate and duty figured, dealers are willing to sell for about $32,400!
So if you're inclined for a little trip to save a few thousand you have to consider the Canada option. Anyone who needs more details let me know. I'll be glad to help.

crikey: i've heard the husky liners fit well. do you recommend them over a heavier duty, trench/ribbed type floor mat? and did you get the cargo area mat?-->how are you dealing w/o having cutouts for the floor mounts?
has anyone purchased the infiniti factory floor mats?
I did buy the cargo liner and I am struggling with the non-existense of the cutouts, I think the factory cargo mats have cutouts. I am hesitating to do the cutouts because it compromises the cargo liner's ability to hold liquids, etc. On the other hand, the existing cargo net's functionality is severely compromised. I'll mull it over a bit more.
Bummer you missed out - but the QX4 (and my Pathfinder) are great aren't they? I actually live by Rochester, MN so we're real close. The PF gets to St. Paul about once a week. Also it will spend time on the North Shore when the snow starts flying (ski rack ready to go).
But I am amazed that more people don't know about going to Canada to save money. It sounds strange, but it's really easy. The best deals are in Vancouver and Toronto (where I went), but others are out there too. I know dealers that will give very good prices (better than just calling and asking). A one day's drive can save you thousands.
cricky - will have to order liners today. Thanks for all the reports.

If you decide to sell your Honda and buy a vehicle down here in the U.S., the only 'bump' that I see is establishing credit history. Dealers might try to take advantage of the non-existence of US credit history on your part by giving you a loan with very high interest rates. However, if you do have a good Canadian credit history, you might fair well if the dealership badly needs a sale and uses your Canadian credit history to establish a loan. Of course, if you pay in cash, you won't have a problem.
From my personal experience, you might do better if you trade in the Honda and get an Acura. BTW, you cannot bring in _leased_ vehicles. The title of the vehicle has to be in your name, thus, it needs to be purchased. Hope that helps you, fellow Canuck.
I can't speak for other brands though - have not researched it.

About the credit problem, how would I use the Canadian history across the border? I do have a very good history in Canada (never blown any bills, and the cash flow is quite big)? Fortunately for me, I will be travelling back and forth for couple of months before completely settling down, so perhaps I can establish some credit history during this period?
Thanks again.

Regarding the QX4, I don't think that warranty would be a problem if you purchase in Canada and bring it over. You might actually want to get in touch with lofquist(post 227) to see if you can get dealer to waive the sales taxes since you will be bringing it in to U.S. The only caveat with that is that you need to get it registered immediately. In order to register a vehicle in a certain state, you might need to have a valid driver's license in that state. You are better off buying in Canada because it would be substantially cheaper due to currency exchange rates.
Since you will be travelling back and forth, I would delay the purchase of the QX4 until you get settled in the U.S.
Regarding credit, I would not consider it a problem, just a nuisance. Yes, as soon as you can, establish a credit history in the U.S. Open a bank account and apply for a credit card with the financial institution.

also, i find the armrest on the door to be pretty hard. anyone else? if so, have you engineered a pad or something to alleviate it?
oh, one more thing. i couldn't love the 6disc in dash changer more, but wouldn't it be nice if it displayed the running time of the cd track. just a quirk.

Zaino: Finally tried the Zaino products. First application is pretty much what I expected (didn't expect a whole lot with the Titanium finish). I'm guessing maintenance will be much easier than with other products. Tried it on our 96 Dark Green Jeep, and it was truly amazing. Really brought the paint back to life. Amazing depth and shine.
About the CD Player: I agree with kj's comment on the running time. Another thing I would have liked to seen would be a Volume meter. As it is now, it's kind of hard to know how loud the CD will be, because it takes quite a while to load. I guess that's my other complaint, is that switching and loading takes a good bit of time (but I can live with it, because it's incredibly convenient).
Finally, the Outside Temp. Display: The other day it was actually 31, but the meter said 51 for about 5 minutes or so, before it eventually went down to 38. How hard can it be to get that thing a little more accurate?
Sorry for the long post. And don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the QX4. It's absolutely amazing how comfortable it is (and the awesome power helps too :-).
Also, How did the wiring turn out? Do they make professional looking ones, that sort of mount on the vehicle, or do they only have the kind that just have the wires hanging out?
-kj
ps. by the way, good point on the volume control too
My temp display is out of whack as well. I've had it recalibrated but it did nothing for accuracy. I wonder where the sensor is? The display is inaccurate in both very cold and very hot conditions. I just stopped believing it and use it as a guide.
My 3.3L V6 gets about 12 in suburban driving and has never been above 20 on the highway. Even with an 18 gallon tank I'm getting sweaty when I hit 300 miles. I think the farthest I've gone on one tank is 340 miles. Regardless, it's dumb to stretch the distance of a tankful as the fuel pump is exposed and starts to overheat when you go below 1/4. I'd rather fill up a little more frequently than spend $400 to replace a fuel pump just becuse I was being a dummy.
Off to the Infiniti dealer for me.
I'm avg 16.5 mpg. with city/hwy mix. Highest has been 17.7.
Love this quiet smooth truck. My friends love the reclining rear seats.
I find myself just assuming that on average it's going to read about 5 to 7 degrees warmer than it really is.
You can always but the warranty later so don't be pressured into, "Ya gotta buy it now". Only thing is you won't be able to finance it.
The navigation system is flawless (well, almost flawless). I wish it would stop reminding me to use common sense while driving, and don’t drive off a cliff just because the navigation system says the road goes there. The other day we had an off-site staff meeting. I gave the navigation system the address of the center (I had never been there before). When I saw that the nav wanted to avoid the highway, I ignored it and followed the supplied directions from the center. Rush hour highway traffic and tolls made the journey an unpleasant hour and a half. On the way home I followed the nav’s directions and was home in 35 minutes using local streets, no tolls, little traffic.
I am very impressed with the fit and finish of this car. One little tiny “problem”, I was checking the tire pressure for the 17inch Bridgestone (Japanese made) tires. The tire pressure recommended by the door sticker was 26 psi, but they are all holding (cold measure) 35 psi (including the spare) and don’t seem over-inflated. I guess I should check with the dealer. Love this truck .
I too wanted the interior bike rack, but my back seats don't seem to lay down flat(yes i know remove the headrest), no go, what gives?
Pleasantly surprised at the low price for 45K service. $280.00. Shocked at the high price for bug deflecter/SR deflector $116. and $74
2. In the Media package available? (the one with the vcr/tv screen).
Jmallen: The rear window air foil is supposed to help keep the rear window clean. It seems to work. The complete specs on the 2001 QX4 are available here on the website under New Trucks. There is no video available as a feature but there are aftermarket systems that would fit.

Does anyone know the required and replacement maintence costs of the QX4, ie brake life,,tire life, and required services?
Can you give us more info on the mats?
Is there a part number or description?

and a note, the pictures i saw in the accessory book for the cargo area mats showed only one of the three mats with cutouts for the hookmounts. the one with cutouts didn't appear to have anything different than if you cut into the husky liners. the heavier duty mfr mat didn't have cutouts.
so i'd say, cutout holes for the hookmounts, but just cut it so it's a flap, rather than cut out totally. and cut it at a slight angle to still keep a somewhat good seal (attempted text picture follows)

the cargo liner saved my interior the other day as a gallon of milk had a small puncture which caused a leak. i probably punctured it 'coz i wouldn't knowingly buy a gallon of milk with a leak
Besides the extra $36.00, most of the
services for 15K interval should be the same.
I went to my dealership today to hopefully purchase the $55 Infiniti Rubber Floor Mats. Well, the guy at the service dept pulled out a set of weathertechs. He told me that Infiniti, other than a few years ago for the Q45 has never made rubber winter floor mats. He thinks that whoever was able to get them it must have been a special ordered product. He went online and told me that there's no such thing.
I went to carpoint and found the f92 floor mats. Could these be the standard floor mats that come with the vehicle?
Eitherway, KJ, can you let me know the dealer that you got them from and their number?
Thanks
Tony
Has anyone purchased the Infiniti bug deflector ($116) looks nice but a bit expensive.
Bridgestone owns Firestone, purchased in the 80's. Bridgestone and Firestone keep fairly separate operations. Most Bridgestones are designed and mfr'd in Japan where most Firestones are designed and mfr'd in the US. I've studied both product lines and I cannot find one tire that is the same for both brands. Bridgestone has passed on some technology like UNI-T to a few Firestone models and of course there's some personnel crossover like any multi-national global corporation. Bridgestone also offers it's racing technology to Firestone (CART, IRL) which Firestone develops further. Oh, and don't forget Dayton Tires are in this mix.
Some time ago I posted some detailed info in this room on Bridgestone Dueler vs. Michelin LTX. Do a search in here if you're interested.
7 -- Land Rover Discovery Series II
5 -- Infiniti QX4 (tie)
5 -- Mercedes Benz ML320 (tie)

1 -- Acura MDX
The MDX is really kicking everyone's tail, it seems. First, MT SUV of the year, now C&D comparo winner. I will post editor's comments on QX4. I think that the softer suspension hurt it a bit. However, if I recall correctly, they liked it best as their on-road cruiser for long drives.
Thanks,
