Did you not click on the link I provided, Bob. It clearly states that: "It WILL be Hyundai's first U.S. car with adaptive cruise control, push-button start, and HID headlamps. Also available will be heated & cooled seats, navigation, bluetooth, and an Infinity surround sound stereo."
I've also read that the way you see it now is pretty much how it would be released to the public, except for the 20" rims and tires...they said to count on an 18" package.
As far as why they don't offer the U.S. Azera with the Korean available options? Pure stupidity...they cut their noses off to spite their faces. If they claim they can bring a fully loaded Genesis to market with ALL the bells and whistles (not to mention the V-8) for somewhere around $35-37K...there should be no problem to have an Azera with everything and still keep it under the $30K threshold.
RE:358 Mike This is article printed in Automobile Magazine based on information that they have received from a public relations company that represents Hyundai Motor Corporation US. You can't take any of this information to the bank. As you are aware our early models of the Azera claimed to have " Tilt in reverse" side view mirrors. My owners manual even shows how to program them. They were not included in the cars shipped to the US. Hyundai apologized to me for the error, and offered to send me a new manual that omitted mention of the feature. At this point you are only being given hype not facts.
You know...I would have to think that Hyundai understands if their intention is to compete with the likes of the E-Class MB and the 5-Series BMW...what they'll need to bring to the table in regards to the Genesis.
As far as the Azera goes, the only area it falls short from it's competitors is in the tech department (nav, bluetooth, smart key...), oh...and fuel efficiency. Even still...it proves to STILL be an extreme value for your money without those things.
Thanks, Pat. The link works fine. But when I go to the Azera page showing all the topics, the Real World MPG thread still isn't showing. Real World MPG threads show on other model sites.
Is this a problem on my end or is anyone else experiencing the same?
I think that's one of the mysteries of this site! I also can't see the thread at this time, but I know it will reappear to my view in the future. Y'gotta believe...
But you folks need to be using the Azera group link if you don't want to miss anything. In fact, the best thing to do is to track the whole group and then use the Read New Messages link to keep up with all new Azera posts.
Evidently some of you are using the Make/Model search instead and that will sometimes miss active discussions - as you've just seen.
Hi everyone I'm new here and i don't have an Azera but I'm very interested in one. Yesterday I was at the Hyundai dealership in my area and noticed a couple of new Azeras on the lot. When I took a closer look at them I noticed it said on the sticker, Azera GLS an that the average gas millage was 21 not 19, there was another one that said Azera SE XM with the same gas millage. When I got home I looked it up on Hyundai's web site and on the comparison chart both the Azera SE and Limited said they were discontinued and they have 3 new 2007 trim models the GLS,SE XM and the LIMITED XM. When you look at new car prices here on Edmunds site they also show them there. Does anyone know anything about them? are they the same car but just include and XM radio? There is also another option group thats $600 more, $3100, but I can't figure out what you are getting for the $600 more. Any input?
On the HyundaiUSA.com website, they still just show SE and Limited. My understanding is that the GLS that you see in some dealer inventories (there is one in my area) is with a 3.3 L engine (I thought they would not be coming out until later this year, but apparently are out there already). There is then the SE and the Limited, the two original versions, which now can be had also with XM radio (something that was not offered until very recently). You will likely still find a lot of XM-less SE and Limited out there. The 600 bucks extra is for upgraded stereo system, including XM..
Which dealer (or what area of the country) are you in?
The windows in my Azera have the legend"Solar Glass"What is solar glass and can I have a film applied? Even though the car is white it still getshot in the Florida sun.
Solar glass has been dipped or has a coating that helps block UV rays. You can still get a film applied with no problems. I have a 35% tint (state legal limit in MD)and it went on with no issues and I have had no issues since it's been on.
Just make sure you don't get the metallic coating on the back window or you will hose up your radio reception. A good tint person will tell you this as you choose your film.
I got mine tinted a week after purchase and the car looks awesome! Frankly, I'm amazed that Hyundai doesn't offer a darker factory tint.
Just out of curiousity (even though it killed the cat), how much does one pay roughly to tint the windows of an Azera? And do you tint the side AND rear window, or just the side windows?
You get the rear window tinted, too, but not with metallic film. The advantage of metallic film is that it keeps the car cooler inside. So use metallic on the side windows and non-metallic on the rear window.
I paid $245 for an outstanding tint job. The licensed (important!) two-man crew came to my house and worked in my garage - it took them over three hours to do the job. It is warrantied for as long as I own the car.
Thanks, Akoni and Sundevils. I see Akoni is in FL, is Sundevil in AZ by any chance? (I'm in VA) If the time comes and the Azera ends up being my choice indeed, I will have to look into that too. Saw a black/beige Azera on the road today and thought it needs tinted windows to look really sharp.
Here in MD, there's a shop that tints any car for $99 and you get a 5 year warranty (because they figure most won't keep a car longer than that). It's the metallized film so it won't fade or discolor. I've had them do a couple of my cars in the past and they always do a GREAT job. Great thing is...YOU get to pick any tint you want and the price stays the same...unless it's a tint they don't carry, then you pay for the roll of tint as well.
If you're gonna tint your windows, it's a terrible look to just tint the side windows! :surprise:
You can visit my page (mine is black w/beige) to see how it looks with a 35% tint.
Chiefload, what part of VA are you in? I ask because I can direct you to a few different places to check out if you're in the NOVA area. In our area, you shouldn't pay over $200 for a great tint job with top of the line tint.
I'm in Gainesville, work at Dulles. Checked your page. NICE looking car. That's about the tint I think the car would need. From the top of your head, does VA have the same tinting rules as MD?.... (Like your wheels too, got to read up on them..)
I do believe that since it's a metro area, the areas carry the same laws concerning tint.
One shop I would avoid is California Tint...I believe they quoted me a price of like $269 to tint the car!!!
The wheels...they're by Mezzano Alloy. When I looked them up on the net, there was only two places I could find that carried them at the time, now there's quite a few more spots to choose from. One was in PA and the other in Glen Burnie, MD. It's a 20" package (which I was worried about a really rough ride at first), but the softer suspension of the Azera makes up the difference. The ride isn't bad at all, but don't think it'll ride over bumps like it did with the factory wheels. You notice a difference for sure, but not major.
If you're interested in 20's, the tire size you'll need is 245/35-20. If you go with 18's...the tire size is 235/50-18 and a 19" package would require 235/45-19 tires. However, 19's are limited in choices available and because it's not a popular size, tires will cost more too.

I got my dealer to agree to have my windows tinted after the sale for dealer cost. In Colorado, I am going with 27% max by law--non metallic. It is actually a part of the sales paperwork. My guess is that virtually any dealer would agree to this as it costs them nothing, just saves the customer money. If you are looking at an Azera and want something after market -- back up sensor, radio upgrade, bra, etc., you might give this idea some thought. Just get it in writing.
The actual dealer cost for sides and back is $140 (with best non metallic tint $220 retail) lifetime guarantee. I will have it done in the next two weeks. No need to do it prior to that, heat has not been an issue. :P
No, it is not really the mirrored finish. There are some tints that actually have metal particles as part of the tint. This is what afftects radio reception. The tint provider will explain it all and show you different options.
I don't know any dealer who doesn't have some arrangements with a variety of after market vendors.
Okay...I just wanted to be sure we were on the same page. Yes, the metalized film will affect FM reception (which happened to me). I went with the metallized film as there is no chance of the film discoloring or fading. I believe an FM signal booster will fix the reception problem.
Yeah, more and more dealers have jumped on board with the aftermarket business.
Hyundai has rediscovered the Azera. They are a sponsor of the tennis tournament in Charleston(ESPN2 this weekend at 12:30 or 1PM Sat and Sun. The commercial shows a Lexus and an Azera traveling side by side in a city. The Lexus stops and the driver proudly takes his hands off the steering wheel and, voila, the wheel spins to self park the car. The Az continues to valet parking. I guess the point is that the Az is comparable to the Lexus and the owner can use valet parking with the money saved.
It rained hard on my new '07 Azera today. I parked for awhile and opened the sliding moonroof door to look through the closed glass. I noticed water dripping from the rear corner of the glass to the track beneath it. I understand that there is a water maintenance system -- like gutters -- that directs incoming water outside through tubes. My question is: Is the Azera engineered to let rain drip through or around the glass seal to those tubes or is this a defect that needs repair?
Can someone explain to me how they work? I read somewhere that they turn on if it starts to rain but they don't adjust speed if it rains harder. Is that true? if so they are worthless. They should adjust and speed up or slow down as it rains harder or lighter.
The rain sensing wipers on my 2002 GMC Envoy turn on and adjust speed based on the intensity of the rain. They turn off when it stops. They wipe immediately when a truck goes by and splatters you. They are great.
Mine work exactly as you would expect - they turn on when the rain starts, increase in speed as the rain increases, and turn off after it stops. As advertised. You might need to see the dealer if yours aren't working like that.
Thanks for the reply. I know how they are suppose to work. I was talking about the Azera and that someone wrote they don't work very good. I don't have an Azera but very interested in one and I'm reading a lot of review from many people. the only thing is that you have to take some of the comments and the things you read with a grain of salt.
I don't think they "turn on" by themselves. You need to turn the wiper to the auto setting. The rain is sensed via the part of the windshield behind the rearview mirror that has the grid pattern. It is my experience that it works well.
It's magic.....they work great After the rain stops it stops then if a car or truck passes you and sprays the windshield with road goop it starts and makes one cycle to clean the window....MASGIC :=)
Doing some comparison shopping on-line with my brother-in-law in Europe. We checked out the price differences of an Azera here to a Grandeur in Germany and Switzerland.
In Germany, it's either a 3.3L V6 or 2.2L Diesel. The Diesel powered car is about 3000 Euro ($4,000) more. Only 4 colors to choose from (looks like silver, grey, aubergine or black, black (black being the only one without a premium..). Only grey leather interior, but comes with the Nav system... There does NOT seem to be a 10 year warranty, max 5 years. For the loaded 3.3L: Euro 40,500 = USD 54 - 55,000....
The set-up in Switzerland is a little different, they only offer the 3.3L V6. Rest about the same. BUT... it is $ 10,000 cheaper: CHF 54,500 = USD 44 - 45,000
Both vehicles are considered to be.... low priced ......
Love the Azera rain (snow) sensing wipers and they work as others here have described -- faster when it rains harder, slower when less water. The wipers can be set for auto sensing or it can be turned off if desired.
I was at local dealership today and top salesman told me that Azera sales have been slow at their shop. He said that all customers seem to want Sonata's and Santa Fe's.
To Honda and Toyota drivers, the 3.8 would seem thirsty. However, the 3.8 is no more thirsty than the 2.7 was. I'm used to it. Funny how the Azera is looked at as thirsty and you don't hear that coming about about the Maxima and the FE numbers are pretty close!
At 30MPG on long highway trips and 19MPG around town, the Azera is really quite acceptable for a big V6. The great Nissan 3.5 engines are not doing any better in FE. Avelon's might get 1 - 2 MPG better city, and the V6 Accord is better compared to the 3.3 Sonata.
Sure $3+ Gas hurts, but for the siza / class the Azera is in, it gets an undeserved bad rap in FE.

Also, did you bother to read the Press Release???
As they say it's alota "bang for the buck".
If they would only listen to us, it could be a "home run".
Hopefully, one day.
