2008 Nissan Rogue

All forester numbers are with a mooroof,
since that pretty much comes standard on a Forester
Cargo specs on Rogue don't say if it w/ or w/o moonroof.
Forester Rogue
(2.5x)
Front Head room 39.1 in. 39.3 in.
Front Leg room 43.6 in. 42.5 in.
Front Hip room 51.6 in. 53.1 in.
Front Shoulder room 53.5 in. 55.9 in.
Rear Head room 37.0 in. 37.6 in.
Rear Leg room 33.7 in. 35.3 in.
Rear Hip room 51.6 in. 51.2 in.
Rear Shoulder room 53.6 in. 53.6 in.
Cargo Room (cu. ft.) 28.9 28.9
Cargo Room 64.5 57.9
(w/ 2nd row lowered)
Since I'm in Canada, I convert the numbers from cubic feet to litres. The Rogue has about 818L of cargo space behind the 2nd seat. The CR-V has 1011L and the Outlander has 1104. That's a difference of about 7 and 11 cubic feet respectively.
I should have taken a picture of the trunk with a stroller in it for comparative purposes!
’07 CR-V's cargo volume: (cu. ft., seat up/down) 35.7 / 72.9.
Rogue's cargo volume: (cu. ft., seat up/down) 28.9 / 57.9.
On the other hand, I keep reading posts that say "this or that" on the Santa-Fe is larger than the Rogue Well, “duh!” the Hyundai Santa-Fe is a larger vehicle overall, so everything will be bigger! As brucepower had mentioned it’s like comparing apples to oranges (or better yet- oranges to grapefruits). IMO, I don’t think you can make a fair comparison, in terms of size, between a “compact” Rogue and a “midsize” Santa-Fe!
Nice use of "duh" with Hyundai's new ad campaign.
What say you?
If I had the money and the fuel economy was better, I'd love to drive an AWD Murano.
My daily commute is mostly back roads and I live in New England, so to me Fuel Economy, AWD and safety are my most important factors. The Rogue has a lot of nice bells and whistles like the keyless ignition, so the gadget-geek in me really wants to go with the Nissan.
My decision (to replace my '02 Liberty which is now averaging 15.8 mpg) will probably come down to price and fuel economy this time. My wife and I have a 4 month old daughter, so a decent amount of cargo room is necessary for stroller and whatever other things we need to lug around for the baby.
I tend to keep cars for only about 4 years or so (that's usually when my Jeeps start giving out, so far Liberty is doing better, knock on wood). So I'm not terribly concerned with how much rear leg room there is in back seat has...kids have short legs. I just want to make sure there is enough room that my daughter won't be kicking the back of my seat, once she starts facing forwards. ;-)
I'll make my final decision in September/October once I can finally take the Nissan for a test drive. The earlier comment regarding poor rear visibility on The Nissan Rogue was a little disturbing.
Others under consideration:
2008 Subaru Forester 2.5x
2007 Honda CR-V EX-L
2008 Ford Escape Hybrid (4WD)
The leather on the armrests seem not practical to me.
From what I heard in another forum the Rogue has limited cargo space but it drives real nice real sporty.
Unfortunately with the 2008 adjusted MPG values being 17/23, I can't really justify it since my commute is mostly back roads and I'll probably be falling at the lower-end of those values.
Maybe in 5 years when the little one is not as little (and possibly has a sibling), I'd consider a bigger vehicle, but for now I want something on the smaller side that gets good gas mileage. Who knows, maybe in 5 years there will either be a Hybrid Murano, or one that gets much better gas mileage and then I can trade up.
The Rogue is too expensive for what it has to offer.
I just got a Mitsubishi Outlander XLS for 4000CAN$ less.
I'm sure I can't put 4000$ more gas on it in 5 years...
And I have a plenty of room in it.
Outlander 2007
I've take every thing except the nav package and 30g computer (too expensive at 4000CAN$)
Worth a look and a test drive
The Outlander XLS AWD is $32,998.
The Rogue SL AWD with all packages is $34,898.
All are CAD pricing...
My mistake, it's about 3200$
I should explain. All in canadian money
Rogue:
36398 - 11700 (CRV 2002) + GST + Québec PST = 28143
Outlander
34728 - 12500 (CRV 2002) + GST + Québec PST = 25328
Mitsubishi offer 4,8% financing for 5 years vs Nissan offer 5,9%
so, it will cost me 3393 for the loan vs 4375 for the Rogue
then you got the 3200$ diff.
I drive about 20000km to 25000km a year. So I can give 640$/year (3200$/5) to Exxon and their friend... Don't think I'll do...
You’ll have to update us on your impressions after you’ve driven it your first week (give us some real world feedback on mileage, comfort/accessibility, the things you really like or don’ like about it compared to your old CR-V etc.)!
Out of curiosity, (and I understand that this would vary according to a person's driving record), was there a big jump in your vehicle insurance between your 2002 Honda and the new Mitsubishi?
Like I said a few posts back, the rogue is way overpriced in Canada, by at least 4000$ (plus, Mitsu is willing to deal, I doubt this will be the case for Nissan at least until december)
I saw the rogue, and yes, it is a well put together car, nicer finish than outlander and nice, sporty look.
BUT: very small inside, similar to Tucson, way smaller than Rav4, Outlander, with much less cargo room.
Plus, having test driven the Outlander, I have a hard time believing the Rogue will compete as far as power and handling is concerned. As far as fuel economy is concerned, we'll have to see. Some car meet or exceed their estimated mileage, such as the Rav4 V6, other simply never seem to make it (such as most american vehicles in this class). We'll have to see where the Rogue stands on this point.

From the video it looks as if the rear seats don't do down completely flat?
Anyone who's seen it in person, is this the case?
I find this one of the really annoying things with my current Liberty.
tony
I really liked the Subaru, but was less than impressed with the CR-V.
The CR-V felt way too wide open inside, and when idling, it shook a fair bit. Definitely felt more wobbly and tipsy on the road (there was a fair bit of wind today) compared to the Forester. The Forester handled great and seemed to have nice acceleration (even more so than my wife's 2007 Outback) despite some reviews I've read which said acceleration was average on the Forester.
Only things I wish the Forester had are steering wheel mounted radio controls, bluetooth and a fold flat front passenger seat to be able to put in longer items.
Right now the Forester is definitely my top contender, hopefully the Rogue will arrive soon for test drives.
The Santa Fe has all the bells and whistles and gas mileage is not really bad 22-24.
I really think you should go test drive a Santa Fe as well.

I am looking at some of the deals on the '07 Subaru Foresters and don't want to miss out on these discounts by waiting on the Rogue only to find out that either its way overpriced, or that I don't like how it drives.
I saw that $26k fully loaded priced listed in Motor Trends review as well. I assume that's MSRP, but what kind of discount can you get if supply is limited, prob not much.
Saw this today:

Come on Nissan...show us the goods.
My local Nissan dealer said they'd be getting a couple in in September, but didn't know what trim level.
Believe or not, I've put CRV, Santa Fe, and later the Rouge on my list to replace my RAV4 before 2008. Why I can't compare their specs and prices because they are in different class?
It says the SL they test drove was MSRP of 28k, sounds like it was maxed out.
A couple things to note...
"This Rogue SL's optional leather-upholstered front seats are comfortable, but the six-way manual adjustment has its limitations, as our seat companion (apparently pampered by electronic seat controls in the past) inadvertently released the seatback and it flipped forward and whacked her in the noggin with the headrest."
The way this is worded, it sounds like if you choose leather, its only the front seats which are leather. And only the driver's seat has electric controls.
There was a more favorable review done by motor trend here:
(Incidentally they claim a maxed out Rogue is $26k)

My husband wants the room. I could go with the Rogue.
Have you received a quote on the Rogue and if you have give me the numbers. However, the pricing here in the United States might be different.

Charlie:
I am getting 25 city and 35 on the interstates, this is for the 2005 Nissan Murano SL-Front-Wheel driven. I am hoping that the Rogue will even top the mileage that I am getting through my Murano. I have to agree with you that I have never purchased any other auto manufacturer, with the exception of a 1982 Toyota Corrola; I couldn't wait until I got rid of this vehicle. After finding someone to sell this car to, I went straight to Nissan and purchased a 1983 Nissan Pulsar NX; this was one great small car and I was getting 45 miles highway and 35 miles city.
Vehicles should be released to US Nissan dealers starting Sep 15.
Normally larger dealers & dealers closest to the port of entry receive vehicles earlier than others.

My dealer, who has been working with me to find exactly what I wanted, gave me a “Heads Up” yesterday that it was arriving and I could drive it too.
It was a silver SL AWD with the Premium Package, but no leather. When I pulled into the dealership, to my surprise, it was in plain view. A first glance I thought it was a Murano, but a second confirmed that it was too small; Honey, I shrunk the Murano!! A quick walk around revealed an insect covered front end that doesn't make for great 1st impressions. I was eyeing the notorious rear window with that pillar that has raised so many concerns. From the outside it did not seem so ominous.
Soon a salesman appeared with the Intelligent Key. Without further ado, I climbed into the driver’s seat and manually adjusted it for comfort. I’m 5’11’ and is was a snap to get positioned for comfort. No sun roof left me with many inches above, so even with, no problem. There was a full view of the hood, really appreciated since I have been driving an 04 Max for the last 3.5 years. I fully adjusted those mirrors for I was fearful of that blind spot.
Leaving the lot and on to a winding 2 lane that climbed most of the way to an intersection showed me immediately that “I was not in Kansas anymore.” The Max would have never hesitated, but the 4 cyl. with that CVT began to labor just a little. I downshifted with the paddles and it helped. This is what will be the hardest to get used to, for this gas-sipper has consequences in power. The steering was very responsive and did not wander. The braking was predictable and very Nissan. And that blind spot, well the side window that I always use for my peeking, was covered with sheets of information. Really! I had to look thru not a window, but a small crack on the window. Still got by. When I returned to the lot, I backed in between a Mercedes and Titan, no problem. Not parallel.
Anyways, crawling around afterward, I was most interested in the cargo area. I found it to be all that I needed and with seats down, very generous for my needs. Sitting in the back seat gave me all the room I could have wanted. Nice. I never thought that I was looking at a high-end vehicle. It was very Altima like in its appearance, not Maxima or Murano like. I wish this one would have had the Leather Package, for that should have increased the richness level , I hope.

Did the vehicle have any price info on it ??
Build a CR-V or RAV4 and put all that you can into the build. You will approach or pass the above figure. Sure, there will be Nav on that CR-V, but there is also a list of things the Rogue has that it does not.
You will have to desire what is important to you and then bring your money.
Thank you for the compliment about the review, but really it was written from a personal point of view. When I look at a cargo area, I see 10 grocery bags or 3 suitcases. Then I think, that's all that I need. Others will not feel that way.
One salesman was talking to another as I looked, and he said that he had a potential customer who wanted to put 4 golf bags into the cargo area!! Yikes, this is not going to be pretty. If you do get them in and then 4 men. Get a Murano.
BTW, all that you read about that Bose audio system is true. I have Bose in my 04 Max but it does not sound like this one.
