So, I go to start the car today and the key doesn't work. I thought it was weird when I couldn't open the trunk. I thought it could be the battery, but it still was able to remotely lock and unlock the doors. It just did not register with the car when it was time to start. I even tried the manual slot and it did not read the key. Tried changing the battery just in case and still no dice. Luckily my wife's key still works.
When I called the dealer, they said they were starting to see a problem with the keys if they were around cell phones and such, especially during in-coming calls. Apparently it can somehow wipe the key clean and cancel the programming. Wonderful. I know the manual says cell phones can drain the battery, but I did not think they could wipe the programming. I need to take the key in and have it reprogrammed. Sounds like it will take a few hours to do it. He said that there may be a recall if the problem continues to allow them to change the chipset in the key.
In any event, I'm just glad it happened while I was at home and not 30 miles away at work without easy access to another key. I'm hoping they will consider throwing in an extra key just in case. I've only had the car 3 months and I love it. Best thing I've ever driven. But not feeling too comfortable that the key can get wiped like that and there is no backup other than hopefully having easy access to the other key. They need to get this straightened out.
Not sure if this is a problem, but thought I'd put it out there. When using (the standard) cruise control on a hilly highway it is not smooth going downhill. While it keeps the car at the desired speed, it feels somewhat "herky jerky." It almost feels as if the engine is periodically "braking" to keep it at the set speed.
I've owned Nissan products before (2 Altimas and 1 240sx) and have never felt anything like this before. It feels very unsophisticated.
Has anyone else experienced this? Can anyone explain if this is normal for this car? Can anyone explain "technically" what is happening in the engine/transmission to cause this?
This is exactly what the dealer told us when we took delivery last week. It is an apparent design flaw and Infiniti is owning up to it being their problem and responsibility. They may have to replace &/or re-program the key fobs.

Just a heads up. I haven't seen it mentioned here, but there are some owners experiencing issues with the keyfobs leaving them stranded. You can use the key to get in, but even with the fob in it's slot, the car never sees it and won't start. (Hasn't happened to me yet, knock on wood)
Anyway, Infiniti is now saying it's caused by keeping your fob too close to your cell phone, and the phone deletes the code in the fob. For some, just having the fob in the right pocket and the cell phone on a belt clip has been enough to cause issues. Infiniti is supposed to be working on a solution and possibly supplying new fobs, but in the meantime, they are asking us to keep our fobs away from our phones.

From what I've been seeing, it appears to be much more common among the GSM phones, and not with the CDMA phones.
What ype of phone do you have, and have your fobs been close to the phone? ie, do you keep them close on a table, both the phone and fob in your pocket, etc?

Scott, I'm the one with the problem. Happened over the weekend. I use Nextel and have an i530 phone from Motorola. I believe it is a CDMA phone, not GSM.
I actually have been keeping my fob and my phone very close together when I drive. Other than that, they are separate. They won't be within a yard of each other any longer. Crazy stuff.

I have LCD and one older CRT monitor. If someone near me gets a incoming call on their GSM phone, the CRT monitor on my desk buzzes and picks up all kinds of horrible interference. I also hear this buzzing when on conference calls. All this appears to be related top the GSM technology. I know that when I get an incoming call with my Verizon Razr (CDMA), I get no interference at all.
I use Nextel. They don't sell my phone anymore so I can't check the specs on the unit. I saw a posting from someone about this phone and it led me to believe that it was a CDMA phone since they indicated they wanted a phone similar to the i530, but wanted it to be GSM and globally capable. I admittedly don't know much about it, so I could be wrong.
Yeah...I don't expect that they will raise prices...especially since they need to be offering something of value to consumers who are content with standard FM. Plus there are the monopoly issues and raising prices won't help them to prove they aren't one.

I'm claiming ignorance here. I have no idea if this is closer to CDMA or GSM, but it sounds like it's a possible issue like GSM, so I guess we should take necessary precautions.
As a follow-up, I read somewhere that Nextel uses iDEN, which is slightly different than GSM, but is not CDMA. It's what allows for the separate walkie-talkie and cellular voice capabilities.
No problems here (Other than horrible highway mpg). Anyone hear of any sort of hacks for the touch-screen? Highly irritating trying to type things in then the light turns green and the damn keypad freezes up. I know there are other ways....but I am fond of the touch screen. I figure with a CF reader, there will be a hack out soon. Oh yeh, I thought the radar cruise went bad, but it's set to disengage when the wipers go on low or high. Thanks ! !
My 07 6MT does that too. A 07 G35 auto loaner I drove revved up baout 2k when it's cold. My wife's 02 Camry v6 also does it. But they all drop down as they become warm. Her previous 92 Camry V6 behaved like that. My 86 Toyota Celica ran only around 700 RPM, even when it's cold. I guess those new cars rev higher to build up oil pressure faster. But my thinking is that before the pressure built up engines run with little oil lubrication, the fast run wears the engine fast. But lower RPM builds pressure slower, that lengthens the pressure buld up time, so the time engine run with little lubrication becomes longer, that increases the wear also. I guess those engineers have desided that 2k RPM is the best for both worlds.

Hello. This seems so ironic that I have to share my experience. I thought my battery was dead because my car would not open or start with the key nearby. I had no power at all inside. I attempted to jump start it and it did not react to the cables. I had absolutely no signs of power. Then, I read my mail. I almost threw away the envelope from Infiniti because it looked like junk mail. Needless to say it informed me about the key problem. Unfortunately, I cannot find my spare. They had to flat bed tow my car to infiniti so they can program me another key (I guess it is not just a part I can buy).
For some reason, however, I don't think my cell phone caused it. I have verizon. I always kept my key in the cup holder or purse along with my phone. They are my buddies : ). So why fail now? Frankly, I think the issue is greater. I suspect one of two things are happening: Batteries are suddedly going dead and the decoded signal is lost when replacing them, or perhaps there are theives in the area using scramblers to wipe out our keys. I cannot simply imagine that now, all of a sudden, people are having problems with keys nearby cell phones. We would have figured this out in November shortly after launch. There is more to this story.
I have the same car and noticed the exact same thing on rolling hill in Northern California. You can tell by watching the instant fuel economy gage jump rapidly.
The issue is not just having your phone and fob near each other. The issue begins when they are close or touching, and a call is received. You can keep your friends close to each other and have no ill affect if a call never comes in.
Also note that some owners have had their fob/phone together in a pocket or purse, received a call, and then 2-3 days later, witnessed the problem with the key fob not working.

I asked my salesman about it when looking at the car and he played dumb, but Infiniti has known about and has been working on a resolution for quite some time. At one point a few months ago, they were blaming it on radio and cell phone towers. (LOL)
My only complaint is that they knew about it, I asked about it, and they played dumb.
I've always been a verizon customer and last year our company switch provers to Cingular so I had to move. I had the Razr at both verizon and cingular and I have to say that Cingular needs to be investigated for violation of FCC rules. This phone interferes with EVERYTHING! there is something seriously wrong with the cingular network and equipment. If this phone is near ANY electrical devices it negatively effects it by sending this S.O.S. buzzing sounds to the equipment. My laptop, my desk phone, our polycoms in conference rooms, my car speakers in 3 different vehicles... It's happening to all of us (thousands) at work.
While I'm sure there is something wrong with the fobs since infiniti acknowledged it, I really think the issue is with a cell phone band that clearly interferes with other electronical devices... Verizon doesn't do it.

Not everyone has this problem. I too have the Razr and Cingular and no interference with CRT, calls, speakers, etc.
Mine used to be that way. I would hear the noise on my computer speakers and over my car radio. However, I have the same phone now and it hasn't done that in over a year. Not sure why. Even though it doens't make noise over every speaker around, it was sure capable of wiping my key fob.
That's amazing...I've had cingualar for years and it's always come through things. You can actually hear it coming through the speakers on the monitorjust prior to the phoen ringing. Didn't seem to matter what type of phone..I've had a few siemens and more recently motorolla razor.
Each week its a new chip and now there are flaws all over the hood. The owner of the dealership even looked at it and said he saw paint flaws. First he said rocks were teh cause and then I showed him the hood problems and said what do you think now? He said those looked like paint flaws. I said its obvious to me that the paint job on this car was flawed and anything from a pebble, bug, or even wind pulls paint off. He said to bring it in but he said he could not promise anything. What do you guys think? Everyone I have showed it to says its a paint flaw. I bought it in December. Within 5 days the first chips showed up. I took it to the dealer and they said it was rocks. I did not beleive them as they were big chips and I know I did not hit any rocks.

Mine is the Titanium color. The chips show the black primer I guess so it sticks out like glue.

It's an unfortunate byproduct of new environmentally friendly low VOC paints. They're softer, and they chip MUCH more easily, and more often.
You'll find this on Acura, Lexus, BMW, Infiniti, Lincoln, etc. The roads and conditions you are driving in are causing this chipping to occur, and the already very easy to chip paint is suffering from these conditions.
If you go buy the BMW, you'll see the same occurrence.
Those of us who were already aware of these issues chose to not even pick the car up from the dealership, without getting a protective paint film installed first.
Whether you choose a re-paint, or the BMW, I suggest you consider the same.
I am driving the same roads and the same conditions I have driven all of my previous cars. Acura Integra (1990) had hardly any chips. Chevy Truck (2000) same deal no chips. Chevy Tahoe (2003) same deal no chips at all and its 4 years old with 60K. Just bought a Toyota FJ and what do you want to bet the paint stays on it? No, this is an infiniti problem. Its defective paint. I have read enough on the web to see that infiniti is aware of it and that many people are having the problem.
Having owned enough cars you kinda know when something is not right. If anything the technology should be better and not worse and the paint should be tougher. I think they painted it in the wrong conditions and thats why its is peeling off.
Oh, and the paint chips are in places that road driving would not get to it. Behind the spoiler facing the window. Roof. Crazy places. Especially plastic.

None of my friends with BMW's have paint problems. Some with the same color almost as mine. Paint is the last thing I would have thought would go wrong on the car. I took paint as a given under normal driving conditions which is what the car has been throguh.
I have my 04 Coupe for almost 4 years and I'm quite aware of the issues with the paint. I did much research before purchasing my car and heard the horror stories about the paint as early as 2003. Bottom line is this. For whatever reason, Infiniti paint is total crap! I have a clear bra on my front bumper do to some nasty chips. I learned the hard way and had to have my bumper resprayed a number of times. Most Infinitis have these paint issues and they are not going away. I have not heard any other manufacturer with as many issues. Bottom line is this. If you are concerned about your paint, get a clear bra (3M only) or don't buy an Infiniti! Good luck.
i have identical sound. gets annoying on long trip when rpm high enough to keep slow version of it clicking. did you ever fix it or find out what it is. I am about to send in for service in cincinnati to see if they can fix it.-Jim
I have a 2004 350z and when i got the 2006 G35 it felt great but 45days after i got the car it started having problems. The upmost problem turned out to be what they told me was oil consumption; every 1000 miles the car burned 1 1/2qt of oil, the performance was way bad and the engine noise at times was nerve breaking. Anyway, after 4months of back and forth to service, they replaced the motor and i just got the car back yesterday (4days).
I'm only sitting at 1,600 miles on mine, but I have no irregular noises, other than that whooshing sound that comes when shifting from 1st->2nd and 2nd->3rd, which I found is normal.
Not making assumptions or accusations, but may I ask...
What octane/type fuel are you using? How was the car driven/treated during it's break-in period?
Are you in a newly developing area with new roads and construction?
I've noticed that in new areas, the navigation doesnt update any turns or misses. Once I am on an old road (one that is in the database) then it recalculates the route. If you're not in a new area, then it is malfunctioning.
Look like we have the intelligent key problem. However, it seems to have a different favor as compare to other. The key won't do remote locking/unlocking/Trunk, but it can still do the touch the button on the door handle to lock/unlock and start the car. For those who has intelligent key problem, do you have the same symptom? Also when you try to get it fix, do I need to take the car to the dealership to fix or can I just bring the key in? Do I need to bring any other additional information?
The actual keyfob/cellphone problem would leave you completely locked out and your only option would be to use the pop-out manual key.
Your issues sounds more like a low battery or something. If it wirelessly unlocks the doors and trunk, you have a different issue. Have you tried placing it into the keyfob slot, down near the driver's left knee?
If you do have fob issues, the dealer will need both of your keys and the car itself, as everything needs to be reprogrammed. The fob issue they reported on, when you experience it, will require complete replacement of the fobs anyway.
I'm new to the forum so this is my first response, but I have been reading about all the paint chips. I just took delivery in March of a 2007 G35. About two weeks after I got the car I put a real heavy coat of mequires new hi-tec polish/wax on the car. This finish is quick slick. Don't know if this had anything to do with the following, but on May 30 I was at the mall with my wife and out of the clear blue sunny skies as happens in Houston, Texas, we had a hail storm. I was looking out the window at all the marble size hail hitting the cars. My G was way out in the parking lot away from everyone so I could not see it. This hail lasted about 10 minutes and I was depressed has He-- as I could just picture what that beautiful titanium finish now looked like. After it was all over I could not believe what I Found. There was not a single mark on the finish. UNBELIEVEABLE !! Don't tell me prayer doesn't work. so still don't have any rock chips today. ( Fingers crossed) I'm just hopeful that Infiniti maybe did something to the paint. Motorhead7

It's official now, and they're working on providing us new Fobs in early Fall 07. (free of charge of course)

Put your phone right next to your CRT monitor and make sure the speakers in the monitor are turned on,and at a volume you can hear.

I was the one asking about the total care package that you said was a ripoff. Im still trying to determine what I should get before I pick up my car.
I got my Hood, Fenders, Upper and Lower Front Bumper, and Mirrors done... essentially the whole front end.
Dealer had a 3M Certified installed on staff and I got my whole kit installed for $695

I noticed that the nav on my G35 coupe (07) doesn't recalculate routes if a miss a turn. Is this for everyone or something wrong w/ mine?
Also, it seems to be a little sluggish. It for sure updates slower than the NAV in a honda pilot.
