I've seen rumblings about the Japanese vs. Britain CR-V's, but it is still unclear as to whether there are significant differences.
Should I try very hard to get a Japanese version, or does it not really matter? How important is this? Is there circumstantial evidence that the Japanese model may be better?
Does anyone know if the PTTR problem has been corrected on the new vehicles coming off the line? Our local dealer just got one in the color we are looking for - but it is a Britain-made vehicle (not sure if that matters or not).
IMHO, it doesn't make a difference and depending on where you live you might not have a choice. IIRC, except for some combinations east coast gets Britain, west coast get Japan.
Or you could wait for a 2006 as Honda is ramping up East Liberty, OH to make CRV's for North America.
Just to clarify, Honda is gonig to start producing CR-Vs in East Liberty during the 2006 calendar year, but it is most likely that those units will be the redesigned 2007 model.
Ditto about the assembly plant. No reason to reject a Brittish-built CR-V.
I'm going to get over there to take a look at it. I am excited that they have one just off the truck in the color I want. (I just hope it has the 'good' tires!)
Well, I put a deposit down on an '05 EX today. They have the Bridgestones, which I am not happy about, but all the EX's have them at my dealer. A few of the LX's on the lot had BFG or Dunlop. I figure we will just change them out when the time comes. Looks like tirerack has good prices on decent tires for the CR-V.
I don't think they would have gone much longer, but we are at 77,000 on the OEM Michelin's - trading it in just in the nick of time! (Well, that, and before the tranny dies).

For the Speed signal I need to know wether the honda uses a square wave or a sine wave.
Can someone post some scans from helms or the honda tech manual of where to find these wires.
Also Someone suggested i might need an adapter like a mercedes does if honda uses a bus for the VSS signal.
Why do you need to connect to the "speed signal" (are you referring to the speedometer - it isn't electronic, as far as I know)? A GPS received automatically calculates vehicle speed, far more accurately than the speedometer...
I presume the system has a backup camera, which is why you want to find the backup signal?

You can't compare the Kia Sportage's Free fog lights to CR-V's $400 lights. Kia does not have a sophisticated engine. You have to decide what is more important sophisticated engine design or free fog lights. There is no free lunch. The 2005 is slightly different from 2002-2004 and the fog lights for 2002-2004 won't fit the 2005. But the Element fog lights should fit. As far as buying off ebay, you will get the finest product of Tawanese or Chinese manufacturing. You can get the same for $30 at your local auto parts store. The fog light holes in the bumper should have covers on them, not open to the environment.
If you want a cheap, serviceable tire.. Get BFGoodrich Touring T/A... They were also used as original equipment along with the Duelers... If you got 25K out of the Duelers, you could probably expect 45-50K out of the BFGs...
If you want the best tire out there, most recommend the Bridgestone Turanza LS-T... but, they are very pricy..
Kumhos are cheap tires.... They make a lot of sense for performance tire buyers, who go through a lot of tires... But, in the regular tire market, there are many other brands that offer similar value.. Some swear by the Yokohama AVIDs as well...
We replaced the Duellers(35K) last week with a set of the Turanza LST's. Not as much road noise and a much better ride. They are a bit high, but I decided to go with the LST's since the set on my daughters Altima have 40k on them and you can hardly tell. The local Firestone here in Nashville, TN is running a buy 3 get one free thru June.
I just find the engine check light is on, and my friend used to be charged over $800 to fix the similar problem, just want to know whether I can find the good and honest Honda dealer to handle the fixing, I have a 2000 Honda CR-V, about 63K miles. Any suggestion and experience, thanks.
I don’t think so I test drove a 05LX and it pulled and drifted to the right. The dealership people pretended that they never had heard about this problem. Then slowly they mentioned this has been found in a ‘few’ 05s esp LX since they are 2WDs. They did the TSB fix for the tire mounts and rotated and then changed the tires. The dealer’s mechanics’ final conclusion was that this was torque steer and is bound to happen due to the uniqueness of the CRV, engine mounted high, high horsepower and 2WD. Some CRV test drives/reviews have also criticized Honda for not doing anything to ‘dampen’ the torque steer. PT Cruiser Turbo is one other car with excessive torque steer. Any 05 LX if you slow down and give gas without tightly holding the steering, it will pull right. The service director’s comment was (I am quoting him verbatim) ‘If you are so sensitive about torque steer, this is not the right kind of vehicle for you!’ Honda and the dealers are pretending this is not a problem at all. The 2WD LX will have to be re-engineered or recalled. I didn’t buy the vehicle, obviously
I can't make a dealer recommendation. But you can take it to your local auto parts store like Auto Zone or Advance Discount Auto and they'll run the code for you and give you an idea what needs repaired. I've even heard of the check engine light coming on when the gas cap isn't on tight enough. Good luck. . PS...I took my Mustang in when the check engine light was on and they diagnosed the O2 sensor, saved me at least $100 bucks.

I am pretty sure the $800 charge was not to simply reset the CEL, but to fix the underlying problem. Don't confuse one with another. Just like suggested by MIKEFM58, go to AutoZone and find out what the code is first. It could be as simple as a lose gas cap and as serious as messed up valves.

I disagree. Since Honda has issued a TSB about the problem they clearly think there's a problem that needed to be addressed.
I agree that some dealers may be denying it's a problem and blaming "torque steer". I'm sorry that you encountered one. I have to add, though, that you should only experience true torque steer under fairly hard acceleration, not just crusing down the road at a constant speed.
Here is an update on my '05 CRV bought back in November, '04, with the dreaded PTTR. After months of legal wrangling with Honda Manufacturer and setting a Lemon Law arbitration date, Honda backed out of the arbitration days before it was to happen and decided to buy the faulty CRV back. I know there were a number of you out there following my ordeal and those of you out there dealing with Honda as I write this now. Pursuant to the Lemon Law requirements in my state, the vehicle was brought in three times for attempted fixes. None of the fixes worked to any degree whatsoever. I realize that a TSB has been issued recently re: the PTTR problem. However, it appears from the recent posts that the effectiveness of the TSB to eliminate the PTTR or excessive 'torque steer' has been minimal. I wish the best of luck to those of you out there still fighting for the right to drive a vehicle that goes straight.
For those of you out there trying to convince people that torque steer should be expected in all front wheel drive vehicles, I can only say that the FWD Saturn Vue that I just leased must be broke because it drives straight as an arrow if I am coasting or if I floor the gas pedal. The only downside of owning a vehicle that drives straight is my arm muscle has decreased in size since I am not constantly tugging the steering wheel to the left to compensate for the steering wheel pulling to the right. It is a pleasure to drive a vehicle, once again, that allows the driver to be the one to decide which direction the vehicle moves. Thanks to all of you out there that have contributed to the discussion on this issue. Steve

Another question. I bought my CRV in NYC and it's in Albany with my wife. Can I only take it to the dealer I bought it from to check the problem, or can I take it to a dealership in Albany (and hopefully not get charged for the service)?
Thanks for the good wishes Juice. I have never been a big fan of Saturns but I am a big fan of vehicles that drive straight. In this case, the 'view' is a little easier to enjoy when the car moves in a straight line. Steve

You can take it to any dealer in the US or Canada. It doesn't work that way for the Canadian Honda's though, Honda voids warranty when you bring a Canadian Honda to US.
Did you ever find out if you had a aquare wave or a sine wave? It sounds like you are doing what I'm doing. Wouldn't it be nice if Navmate included this information with their GPS?
I got dealer installed fog lights on my 2005 CRV SE Even at $525 (some charge up to $625.00) I think it's well worth it. I looked at the 10-page instructions off the sponsor's site and looked like it'd be quite a challenge for the average joe. Plus it's covered by the warranty if installed at the dealer. As far as Honda vs aftermarket - definitely go Honda. Look just great! Same as the headlights, can't even tell they're accessories! Nothing like the "free" fog lights that look like light bulbs or the eyes of a Sci-Fi movie creature
We all know the CR-V is getting redesigned in 2007 and it will likely be related to the 2007 Acura RDX. Any sense whether RDX or the CR-V will be the larger vehicle? If the past is any indication (ie MDX versus Pilot) the Honda will be the larger of the two. Any other thoughts?
At this point that's all this is, but the Acura might be a little smaller/swoopier to appear sportier. The RD-X was very wide, but other than that it seemed pretty compact next to a CR-V.
My wife and I bought an 05 CRV EX Real Time 4WD last December. We did not test drive it as it was ordered from another lot.
Long story short, 5 trips to the dealership (regarding PTTR) ended with arbitration last Thursday, 6/30/05.
At arbitration, the Honda rep stated that "specs" on the CRV is to stay in the lane for 6 seconds at 60 mph with hands off the steering wheel. Our car pulled so badly to the right during our test drive with the arbitrator that it should be a lock. The CRV pulled over the crown of the road, through a 20 to 30 mph wind (per the arbitrator), into the next lane within 2 seconds or so.
The interesting part of the story is that Honda brought in another brand new CRV with the same PTTR problem as ours and it performed just as poorly.
We are anxiously awaiting our results. We hope to have as good as luck as Steve.

I saw some Kumho tires on tirerack that are very well priced - almost too good to be true.
I've never heard of the brand before, so I'm not sure if I want to go with that or something else.
