Anyone have any ideas where to find performance products for a mercury tracer?
There are quite a few websites for the Ford Escort.
i'm looking at a non brand cold air filter for a 95 m3. it comes w/cone filter, chrome connection, brackets, and gaskets. i'm getting it for a non brand price. what kind of chances am i taking? have you ever heard of any problems with the chrome ones or non brand filters?
An "air intake system" is a general term. All vehicles have an air intake system.
As to the term "cold air intake system" it simply means that the air filter is located where it sucks in cooler outside air, instead of hotter engine compartment air whick can be 100 degrees hotter then the air outside the vehicle. It is better to have cooler air going into the system. I believe you loose 1 hp for every 7 degree rise in air temp. If you check out magazines like Sport Compact Car you will see places that carry the Akimoto air systems and filters. If you have a Japanese car you are in luck, since they don't make many for domestic vehicles.
I have never seen any - just hype.
feilo - you might want to check that again. Your engine's rpm at a given speed is determined by your gearing, not by your air filter.
Have a look at this article: http://www.escribe.com/automotive/european/mbmc/m7971.html
Any comments?
I think it was fascinating, and it raises some good points. I think there were some bogus conclusions (not the overall suitability of the K&N for his company, I'm referring to the death of his company car) but it certainly gives one food for thought.
Food for thought is right...I was going to invest in the K&N filter, but after reading this, and from what MB (and their head mechanics) have told us, I think I'll retrain from my purchase. A couple of extra hp is not worth the long term damage to the engine, IMHO.
I had a HKS Super Power Flow(looks like a green mushroom) filter on my 96 Probe GT. Then I installed a K&N open air conical filter. Both gave good and noticeable performance gains on cool days. But when the temperature went up, performance tailed off.
I then installed a Cold Air/Ram-Air intake from PRM with a enclosed conical K&N filter. This worked great!! even in hot/humid weather, almost no power loss was felt, plus because of the Ram-Air effect, on cool days/cool nights I could even feel more power being produced.
These were all noticeable gains. Took my car sometimes to the track on cool nights. with the K&N Conical filter on a cool, not very humid spring night, the best I could manage was between 7.2 to 7.5 seconds.
After installing a PRM about a year later, the 0-60 numbers went down into the 6.8-7.1 range. And these were consistent numbers, with 3 runs on 3 different nights.
of course the negative of the Cold-Air/Ram Air setup is that you are more likely to ruin your engine if you keep your foot on the gas and drive through puddles or snow piles. I almost blew my engine after driving in snow. The whole pipe from bottom to top was filled with snow, and in the PRM filter housing, the snow turned into a chunk of ice. Basically it wasn't letting any air through and as the ice slowly melted, water was seeping through the filter and after I cleaned the system out, I found traces of water in the throttle body, and Air mass sensor.
And you do have to clean these filters often, as they do get dirty. The K&N on average, I cleaned once every 2-3 months with the K&N cleaner and conditioner. The PRM I have to clean about every month because it sucks up leaves and debris like a vacuum cleaner.
Huh? I presume you mean 0-60 mph, but no track that I know of measures 0-60 mph. Time to 60' mark, yes, but not to 60 mph. Where were you running?
I could literly hear the rush of air entering the piston chambers.
Anyway, I'm selling the parts now so if anyone is interested, check this link out http://www.eclipseworld.com/
Thanks
>>>I have had the K&N air intake kit with re-useable filter for my '94 Camaro Z28. It is supposed to add 15-20 horsepower, but if it does, you cannot feel it. I would not waste the money if I could do it all over again.<<<
Any ideas would be appreciated
Anyone have an opinion?? Thanks!!!
if anyone can email me with help it would be appreciated
