    My friend has a TS wagon and it is TINY inside. You would have much trouble fitting a stroller inside there I think.

    Yep, it's small, almost like a 5 door hatch. But if we get a WRX we could make two trips in the same time! ;-)

    Back to the CR-V, anyone coming off MSRP in the Washington, DC area? All I find are $200 off and only on certain models.

    I wish the LX had ABS, in fact we have the same problem with the Accord - ABS is viewed as a high-end luxury feature, only on EX when you want a 5 speed.

    Toyota offers is a-la-carte on Camry, but trying to find one is a different story. I've found a dozen 5 speeds - none with ABS.

    ABS is standard on all trim levels for the '02 CR-V in Canada. But we also don't have just FWD versions...all have real-time 4WD.

    My parents love their new CR-V. I think it's a really great vehicle and so do they.

    However I don't see the CRV as third, I see it as 8th place for sales... where did you get 3rd?

    I ordered my 02 ex V it was shipped on the 10th of April, The dealer told me it would be here at the end of April. Its May 2 And it has not shown up. The dealer does not know when it will come in. I have the VIN. Is there any way that I can track the Vehicle.

    I should've clarified, I meant 3rd place in terms of being 3rd among the small SUVs.

    Yeah, that site is having problems. I wanted to check the sales volume for luxury cars, but it links to sales of convertibles.

    The Pilot is a big 'un. Dimensions are almost exactly the same as an MDX, but it feels huge when sitting inside it. I'm beginning to think that it's too big for me (hence all this talk about the HL).

    CR-V sales for March were 13,772 units. Dunno about the Liberty and Escape.

    1500 unit sales decline in april from march doesn't reconcile with most dealers still at msrp and dealer availability still tight in most areas.

    any thoughts on why availability is down?

    has anyone seen a u.k. swindon crv on a dealership lot? swindon was supposed to be significant new source of supply for crv to north america, but we've had no reports of brit crv sightings yet.

    Been seeing the various flags posted next to names. Just had to finally respond to one. My wife is from Rio. She is getting in some drive time and I asked her for a quick comment on the CRV. Now that she driving it she says "eu gosto de dirigir o carro CRV" Hope I spelled everything correctly. Ate logo.

    Wyoreb - The first batch of English CR-Vs left for US shores about 2-3 weeks ago.

    As for sales, I'm told that dealers tend to sell more cars on the weekends. March had five full weekends, while April only had four. Similarly, February only showed about 11K sales because it's a short month.

    What is this "dead pedal" I keep seeing references to? Do the letters "CRV" stand for something? Some people have mentioned having the dealer switch the tires on their new CRV to a different brand. Do you have to pay something on the new tires, or is it an even exchange of brands? I am thinking seriously about getting the new CRV, but was hoping to test drive a Forester 03 this weekend before deciding. Alas, the 03's haven't arrived yet.

    The dead pedal is a foot rest for the driver's left foot. In the '02 CR-V (which stands for Comfortable Runabout Vehicle), the dead pedal is just a flat pump on the floor and not a very good rest.

    The CR-V is sold with two different types of tires. Some folks prefer one brand over another and have asked dealers to switch their vehicle's tires with another's. Most folks just wait until the originals wear out and buy better replacements.

    I'm looking to buy a CR-V soon, and I'd like input on some of the dealer installed accessories I'm considering. That is, are they worth it or a waste of money?

    Door and moon roof visors - $250(us)
    Hard spare tire cover - $120
    Cargo cover - $200

    Also, does anybody know when the 2003's start shipping?

    I have been semi-lurking here (a few questions posed, nicely answered by all concerned, thanks) for the better part of a year now, and I took the plunge earlier this week. I bought a 2002 silver CR-V EX. Only accessory was the locking wheel nuts. On the road price, including plates, all taxes and everything else was $33,650 (Canadian, naturally), no trade, no financing. The process was really smooth, which is probably because thanks to this board (and CRVIX) I knew more about the vehicle that all the sales reps I dealt with! I live in Ottawa, and if anybody is interested in more details (dealer name, etc) please feel free to contact me by e-mail. Now if I can just find a way to get a few Honda accessories (roof rack, cargo mat, hard tire cover) without paying Honda Canada's outrageous prices, my life will be complete...

    Hi All! I own a 2001 CRV EX - 13000 miles - and have been involved in an accident. I was rear ended (other party at fault - not questioned), and have an estimated $10,500 damage to my vehicle (including a bent frame). Opinions on whether this is totalled, or not? Any sources of information on the effect on value this type of repair has on a vehicle. I have my own opinion, but need to convince insurance people.

    wvelez: The VIN will tell you where the vehicle was made. Somebody here posted a while back that the quality was excellent, but that was one person and it was second hand to them also. Ask your dealer for the VIN. If it starts with J, it was made in Asia...

    pamo: I believe the percent of current value varies from State to State and is sadly quite high. (I believe over 70% of the current value) Our opinions aren't going to sway an insurance company, and that will be a long ugly fight. You may be best to get it fixed and get rid of it before any long lasting effects start to show up.

    The VIN number will tell you where the car is made. If the first letter/number of the VIN is a "J" that means it was made in Japan.

    Wvelez - The quality/reliability of any given vehicle has little to do with the point of assembly. It's a factor, but only one part of a much bigger picture. The source of the parts is a bigger deal than the place where they are put together. The design of the vehicle is another that ranks higher than the manufacturing plant.

    In this case, the CR-V's from England will be built with the same parts and have the same design. Also, the QC controls at both plants are the same.

    Other vehicles, like the UK Accord and Civic, have been rated as the most reliable cars on the UK market. So the plant's reputation seems to be pretty good.

    Only time will tell, but I see no reason to suspect that the Swindon CR-Vs will be inferior to those made in Sayama.

    That was my assumption too, mostly because that's what the dealer told me. When I put the VIN in the free lookup, it denoted the "J" as Asia, and the second or 3rd number as the location in Asia which is a city in Japan. I don't have my VIN handy to check again, but I think regardless of what the actual code stands for it's safe to say a CR-V with a "J" starting the VIN is coming from Japan.

    Drove it yesterday for 100 miles!, from redondo beach and back to disneyland. This V is too hot to handle, from steering feel to accelaration. It pulls like a V-6 and merge like a Untammed bull. I like the felling of the i-vtec engine in regards to quick accelation and high end torque availability.

    body side cladding
    side step bars
    window tint and all then standard option..:-)

    Oh, and not to point fingers, but the majority of the mistaken names have been birthed at a certain vmag bulletin service. Quite a bit of misinformation comes out of there, so be careful about what you read on the web. =)

    1. I've put about 800 miles on my 02 CRV, and maybe I'm imagining things, but the tires (duelers) seem to be quieter now than when I first got it.

    2. I've only seen a couple of othe 02 CRVs on the roads nearby (DC/MD area), and they're looking at me. What do I do? Is there a secret handshake?

    CRV does not attract any attention pro or con.
    Just another Japanese small SUV.I think Honda
    owners take there cars for granted.VW has the motto "drivers wanted" but Honda doesn't have
    a slogan.They don't need a gimic to sell a good car, it sells itself.

    I stopped by Honda dealer and the (already spoken for) EX's they just got in today have BFGoodrich Radial TA's on them. I thought that strange for this type vehicle. I have had these before on a performance car and they ran fairly quiet, offered good grip and had a reasonable lifespan. But they were definately not all-season tires in the true sense as I found their winter performance not that great. Is this a new offering on CR-V to replace the discontinued tire, or has this been the second tire they have been shipping all along?

    ...the 'V has (for as long as I can remember) always come with either BFGs or Duelers as the OEM tire. I've never been exactly sure as to how a particular 'V ended up with which tire though. On my '02, I added some Michelin LTX M/S tires in size 225/70-15 and highly recommend them.

    Isn't it funny how something as simple as changing the tires can make the CR-V even sharper?
    Those tires complement the CR-V's claim as an SUV instead of just a tall wagon.

    Chooki - I believe proper etiquette is to hold up a picture of a tow truck that surrounded by a large red circle with a slash through it.

    Gator - You're running around nekked again? Should've kept that hard cover when you traded up for the MDX. It's pretty easy to paint them for a good color match. That may be my next mod (unless my Pilot dreams become reality).

    hey, you east coasters, let us know when the u.k. crv's land at your dealer lots. that will be the first sign that the supply picture is perhaps about to loosen up.

    the number of sales days and number of weekends in a month s/b a predictor of sales. would be curious to know if liberty, escape/tribute, and rav4 figures were similar for april vs. march.

    the crv is a great vehicle, but the short supply and accompanying dealer attitude has been a turn off. hopefully, with the u.k. supply + pilot + new alternatives (2003 forester), things will get considerably better for us fence sitters in the next couple of months.

    varmint, nice to know you can surf edmunds all day. must have a great job. cool! :)

    Hi guys - I'm new here. After waffling and researching for months about a new car, my old one ('94 Jeep Cherokee) flunked the smog test and so decided for me. I ordered a CRV EX, but CRVs are so popular here in Southern CA, a two week wait is a short time.

    A question: when I bought the Jeep, there was a 500 mile break-in period when I had to drive v-e-r-y s-l-o-o-w. Does the CRV need one too? Driving that slow on our freeways is more dangerous than driving too fast (nah, no such thing as too fast)

    Can't wait to own a Honda again!

    I've already forgotten who asked, but I took measures of the cargo area in a 1st gen CR-V for comparison with the '02 model. Cargo depth. (Pardon the shadow of my noggin.)


    The width of the cargo area is only 33.75 inches due to the intruding double bone suspension. The widest section is 52.5 inches.

    I just used this stuff on my CR-V and boy what a difference-black and shiny. It has a uv protector for the rubber and plastic. Have you guys tried it? I was not much for this stuff on my Prelude, but I put some on the trim after I washed it and it looks like new again. The worst thing about this stuff is if you want the shiny look you have to apply it once in a while. You almost get addicted to the look, but rest assured, if neglected, it comes back after application. Do you think there are any negatives by applying products like these to the rubber and trim?

    I was looking through my parent's '02 CR-V manual, and it states that for most fluids (ie. transmission fluid), there are some special Honda fluids that they say have to be used or else damage may occur. Is this true? You HAVE to use Honda products? I know in my Protege, they don't say you have to use "Mazda formulated" fluids. I found this odd, but hey, I'm definitely no expert. Thanks in advance.

    Ok, I have a place on the internet where I store photos. I know the address there.
    I've tried writing the image source as described in TH help and on the members photos section where photo posting information is listed. But I simply can't get it done.
    The help doesn't tell you how to attach the photos title. Maybe if someone wrote an example of how it's written it would make sense to me. A broken picture is as far as I could get.
