1) Fuel mileage (better/worse)
2) Power feeling ( I know the numbers say more)
3) Interior noise level
4) General feelings, etc.
Thank you, yours rocky5656

PS: my 98 was an ex auto as is my 02
I don't really want ABS or a moon roof
but like the window tinting and EX wheels.
Thinking about getting LX, change out the
wheels when i need new tires, and consider after
market window tinting. what do others think?
and what does AM tinting cost? I'll be calling
some tinting places next week.
Driving style and environment have a lot to do
with it.I don't think anybody gets the mileage
on the sticker.Turn the AC off and do a steady
55 mph and you will probably get the listed MPG
but you will be uncomfortable and get run over by
people doing 80 mph.It is a lot better mileage than the Explorer I had at 15 mpg.
It's a great SUV, but it IS too small, and I missed my amenities too much.
Saturday, I traded it off, got $21,500 trade-in, and and a discount of $1,500.00 on an '02 MDX Redrock Touring. I'll see GatorGreg and maybe some others of you back at the MDX board. Take care.

Some of the long-term SUVs Edmunds tests, even compact models, get mileage in the 14-16 range.

Can anyone clue me in as to whether prepayment of a full balance and shipping fee is standard practice for long-distance orders or Internet orders? I've never bought a vehicle this way before so I don't know. I'm certainly not happy about making a certified payment for this much $$$ for merchandise I can't even inspect. How can I protect myself?
Also, they are telling me that they will send my MOS so that I can get my title and tags. I never heard of MOS. Is this also standard?
what are people finding that stores well in the middle (between) radio and temp control compartment? it seems too small to be very functional.
i can believe the minidisk comment. somethink like that with close proximity to the radio would be perfect.
re: mpg. my lowest mpg thus far has been 27.4, and that was the first tank. i drive ~70% highway, use the a/c 50% of the time, and avoid fast starts and stops. the crv has surpassed my expecations in this dept. 17-18 mpg (muckyduck) sounds very low unless it's possibly 100% city driving with a/c 100% of the time. gas mileage is usually best in the summer; in the winter months, the gas is treated to reduce smog.
muckyduck, what's the verdict on your seat rock? did they fix it?
cost wasn't the issue for me, ie buying 2WD v RT4WD it was paying for amenities i didn't want/ need. i talked to a window installer today, she shivered at the thought of aftermarket tinting. They don't recommend anyone. says they get frequent requests to remove it and it's a mess.
also said it breaks down w/ exteme high and low temps. we sometimes have a month of 100+ temps here. they usually recommend replacing the windows to get rid of the goo. interesting they have a crv owner who is having them put in tinted WINDOWS; she's gonna get back to me to tell me what that costs: probably a pretty penny! thanks again.
Slugline, did you get my email about the jobleads? If you still need them, I have some more for you, let me know.
Certainly, however, the quality of tinting, as with any aftermarket product, can vary widely from very good to very bad. (Your window installer could probably tell you how much of a difference OEM-quality auto glass makes versus cheap replacements.) So if you can't locate a reputable tint shop in your area, I would definitely understand your concerns, acor2.
svnla: I haven't gotten any email from you recently. Go ahead, and thanks!
I think the seat is fixed - it certainly does not move like it was, yet when I come to a stop, I still feel some movement coming from the back, which is what the rocking seat problem started with and just got worse over time. So, I don't have a final answer yet.
Also, we had a moonroof installed recently, in her Legacy wagon. It's an ASC Model 750 power glass moonroof, with really cool one touch up/down and programmable so that it closes when you remove the key, automatically.
Any how, to bring this on topic, they had a Gen I CR-V in the parking lot, with the same roof! It looked great! It fit nicely on the flat roof, compared to the trickier installation on our raised-roof Legacy.
If interested, e-mail me at ateixeira@ifc.org for more info. It's a 17"x30" size. They even replace the headliner with a nicer, padded cloth one, and offer a lifetime warranty.
I didn't have my digital camera with me that day, but here are pics of ours (same model), which shows what a quality job they did. They're in MD.

I like it a lot except the 2002 has raised dots on the rear glass and the tint has a different shade over the dots then it does on the window itself. Noone has ever noticed it, I do because I know it is there and I look for it.
I paid $200 canadian! So for me it wasn't too expensive around $125.

The industry standard is the percentage of visible light that passes through, i.e. 35 (normal), 20 (dark), or 5 (limo tint).
Funny thing is, two different films rated 35 will block different amounts of heat. Metallic films tend to do slightly better but also cost more.

I am not sure what effect the tint has on UV rays but I am sure it filters some more of the UV rays in addition to the normal glass. I would bet that ateixeira and protege have it right.
In any case the tint keeps the visible spectrum out of the car and that helps to keep the car cooler on hot days and it also provides you with privacy.
Muckyduck - It could be the brake pads shifting back and forth when you go from forward to reverse. There is a little play in the clamps that allows the pads to expand and contract along with changes in temp.
I know that I'm nit-picking about this but would the warranty cover this? Thanks
Just brought my 2002 EX in on Thursday because of the "brake clunking" which occurs when going from reverse to forward. The dealers response was that "Honda uses different parts suppliers for their brakes and that they don't always fit the same". They didn't even offer to replace the pads to try to find a set that "fit". This really is not a satisfactory response. If I wanted "non-genuine" parts then I would get them on the after market but I at a minimum expect the OEM parts to all work together and meet Honda Specs. It is going back in this Friday to have a visit with the "lead tech" and I am ready to make a stink if this BS continues!!!
Greetings from sunny Miami
What is the wattage in the LX stereo versus the EX stereo?
greetings from sunny Miami.
First pic is of my old 1st gen 'V. I had 28$ (legal limit in Fla) Formula One brand (by Llumar??) tint applied to front windows, and 18% everywhere else:
Second pic is of my new 'V. I again had 28% added to the front windows (same brand). However, since the new EX already comes with privacy glass in the rear, in the back all I added was 28% to the rear hatch glass just to make that window a bit darker:
I really like this tint and haven't had any problems thus far. I think the first job was about $200, while the 2nd was less since I only did 3 windows. Hope this helps.
I didn't even really notice this in my Nissan until reading this forum. I do notice it a little bit more in the CRV, for what that's worth.
By the way, this is a separate noise from the ABS clunk, in case anyone is wondering. The reverse/forward noise I hear is very repeatable, and I can see how it could be annoying/unnerving to some people.
Miatadog - you might ask them to try removing the pads and asking them to put whatever they use for their anti-squeal compound back there, it might help keep them from moving around.
Gatorgreg, you have the same preference on the colors of your two CRV's. What year was your first gen.? Mine was a 98.
Greg: so you made the back glass even darker? Can you see when you are backing up?
Does the CR-V have floating brake calipers? I'm wondering if that would explain the noise. I don't think so. Anyone?

I've been considering tinting since I bought my 'V back in '99. The question has become, am I still considering it, or just too lazy to have it done? ;-)
Robmarch wrote: "I have brake clunk on both of my cars when I back up and stop, then go forward and stop. I believe it's the pads shifting slightly in the holder. It doesn't seem to happen once the brakes have been used a bit around town."
It probably stops because the pads have heated up and expanded to fit the calipers. I'm pretty sure that is the reason for the clunking. The information comes from a reputable source and it makes sense. The reason why it is more obvious in the CR-V is the same reason why we hear more tire noise; too little sound dampening.
