After three tanks of gas in my 2002 CRV EX, my best MPG has been 24 MPG. That was about 80% highway driving. I did have a couple surfboards tied to the roof rack, so that might have caused some drag, but no noticeable extra strain on the RPM's. I was staying mostly at 70 mph, without the AC. My other tanks got around 18 to 20 doing 80% city driving. For the 3rd tank I did move up to 91 octane. The owner's manual states the gas should be 86 octane or higher. Every time I start the car I warm up the car and wait for the RPM's to get to 1000 or below. Anyone getting good mileage on 87 or 89 octane? Anyone try using those grades and adding an octane booster to the gas tank? The 4 cylinder Toyota truck I had years ago got good gas mileage on 87 octane.
Thanks!

For those of you who missed the original message... I'm organizing a Honda SUV Rally in Franconia Notch, NH. We'll be meeting at Cannon Mt. ski resort on August 24th for a day of fun with CR-Vs and Pilots. Activities include the worlds first Honda SUV Olympics, a tram ride to the summit of Cannon Mt., a road rally through Franconia Notch (stunning mountain scenery), and possibly some dirt trail driving (nothing a Civic couldn't handle). There is no fee for the meet, but most activities in the area require a few bucks.
Food, fun, prizes, and a chance to meet fellow Edmunds TH members. There are already folks signed up, but more are welcome. Send me a message or post here if you are interested. What more could you want?
Oh yeah, directions! Franconia Notch is on route 3, just above the Kancamagus highway. Most hotels, motels, B&Bs are in the Woodstock/Lincoln area. I have a website with complete details in the works.
While my CR-V is a '99 EX 5 sped, the following information about a recent trip I took should be of interest:
Total miles traveled: 1,440 miles. Oil was changed the day before I left. Tires inflated to 30 PSI. I have an OEM roof rack and trailer hitch, and Weathertech window shields -- all of which create extra drag.
Outbound leg I kept the cruise control set at about 72 MPH. The air conditioning was ON the entire time.
Result with air ON at 72 MPH: 27.5 MPG
On the return trip I kept the cruise control set at about 65 MPH. For the first 400 miles I used the air conditioning the entire time. For the last ~200 miles it cooled down enough that I turned the air conditioning off.
Result with air ON at 65 MPH: 29.3 MPG Result with air OFF at 65 MPH: 31.1 MPG Average at 65 MPH: 30.2 MPG
So by slowing down from 72 to 65 MPH my mileage increased by almost 2 miles/gallon, and turning off the air conditioner gave me almost another 2 miles/gallon.
Try slowing down to 65 MPH for a couple of days and then check your mileage and see how you do.
Took delivery on me EX Auto Chianti Red on Monday. No real surprises since I test drove it 4 times. The gear shift lever is a bit annoying mostly because it gets in the way of the radio controls. I usually have to lift the armrest to engage the seatbelt. Tires are a bit noisy but not different than test models. I would invest in an upgrade, but the problem is I cannot test different tires to see if it's worth the bucks. Any input here would be appreciated. Made a deal with dealer on accessories-roof rack, tubular side steps, body clad moulding and am happy with the look. Hope not to report problems, but I'll keep those interested in updates.
out here in Los Angeles, going 65mph on the freeway is kind of tough (when it ain't bumber to bumber). flow of traffic is about 70mph. but i did forget about increasing the tire pressure.
The gear shift gave me problems at first too - but after a few days, I stopped thinking about it being there when I move my arm/hand to the radio area. I've really come to like the placement on the dash - it just seems so natural now.
I don't mind raising the arm rest for the seat belt - I do mind the angle unless the seat back is pretty much straight. Poor design!!
I have never thought the tires were overly noisy - no more so than other cars I've had - no Lexus or BMW in my family!
I have the cladding on the silver EX - really like it.
matt479 said: out here in Los Angeles, going 65mph on the freeway is kind of tough (when it ain't bumber to bumber). flow of traffic is about 70mph.
Since I was born, raised, educated, and eventually escaped from So Cal I can understand. Even used to commute from Upland to Downtown LA (corner of Wilshire & Crenshaw) everyday for work. You may not be able to slow down and still be safe, but at least you know the CR-V is capable of better MPG numbers at slower speeds. Now you know it's the conditions your drive in, not the CR-V that's the problem.
I made a deal for a Chianti Red EX 5 Speed in late May. Dealer did not have one being delivered or in the production pipeline at that time - said it would probably be 2-3 months.
Checked with the dealer again today and they still don't have a EX 5 Spd Chianti Red allocated to their dealership within the next month. He said of the 27 CRVs allocated to their dealership, only one was 5 speed (which is Black).
Is this an accurate picture or are there more 5 speeds out there than I'm being led to believe?
If I remember correctly, for the first generation ('97-'01) only about 10% of CR-Vs delivered to the USA were 5 spds and an even smaller overall percentage were red. I believe the most common colors were silver and white.
Having said that, your dealer should be able to request one for you, or at least try to trade with another dealer for one. Red 5 spds do exist. Have you tried another dealer?
ateixeira, yes, on my new EX I made the rear hatch glass darker by adding 28% tint. Although it’s pretty hard to see in, I can still see out very well during the day. However, at night it can be difficult when backing out of a parking spot, I’ve got to be careful. But once on the road I can see the lights of other cars just fine. I’ve got a theory that on Honda’s with privacy glass (like the new EX and 1st gen SE), they don’t actually put privacy glass on the rear hatch glass, and instead use it only on the rear doors and side cargo windows. I once stood behind two new 1st gen ‘Vs parked next to each other, one an LX and one an SE with privacy glass, and I swear I could tell no difference looking through the rear hatch. I ran this theory of mine by my tint installer and he said he could definitely tell there was privacy glass on the rear hatch of my EX, so maybe I’m wrong. Anyway, here’s a pic of my rear hatch glass with tint to go along with the side shot I posted yesterday:
I couldn't find a 2002 5-spd red chianti either. I spent 7 months (Oct. 2001 through May 2002) waiting for local dealers to get any color 5-spd in their allocation, but no luck.
I finally ordered a 5-spd red LX from markroberts.com (Okla.). It came in within 2 months as they said it would, and they are now shipping it to me. I should have it early next week.
Interestingly, now that there are a handful of 2002 CR-Vs running around in my city, most of those I see are red (EXs of course).
My dark grey Suzuki Sidekick has a distinctive red/white stripe down the side that lets me pick my car out instantly from others like it. Does anybody know of body striping or anything low-cost available for CR-Vs that I could use to make mine a little more distinctive like that?
14 miles left before my new 2002 LX hit the 3000 miles mark. Been driving mostly to and from work. 19 miles each way, half of it city-driving with many lights and stop signs, half highway. Normally drives 70mph on highway, 30-40 locally. Average 26mph. Tire-pressure at 32si. kind of like to feel the bumps on the road. Only accessory added was a cargo cover.
Problems: None. The CEL did come on for a day; however, it went off before I could take it to the Dealer. Also the Gas empty indicator came on way too early. The first time I saw the light, I stopped and got 12gal of gas. The most gas I put in was at 14.6gal. Never had the noise or seat rocking problem people talked about here. Maybe it is still too new.
Story: July 4th went to a firwwork display. Parked on a grassy area. It rained heavily the day before. By the time the show finished, we waited the traffic cleared before we got back into the CRV, (4 of us, wife and parents-in-law and myself). I started the engine, put it in drive and could not move. We were stuck in the mud! I guess we should not have waited because all the other vehicles destroied the ground! I told the wife and her folks to get off and I would try flood the engine and see if I can pull it out. This is the first time ever for me. I started slow and turned the wheels left and right, no use. I finally had to turn the front wheel one way, the flood the engine all the way before the CRV finally climbed out of the mud. I was really scared because the RMP needle actually went into the red area. My father-in-law was the biggest victim in this. He happened to stand right in the way where the mud would be spun out from the tires. He was practically covered in mud from head to toe. Well, he was big enough a man and we all laughed it off.
Question: The dealer suggested to do the oil change at 3000 with 10w-30 when I purchased it. The mannual says 5000 severe and 10K normal. Someone in this board said 6000 for break in. What should I do? change now or wait? 5w-30 or 10w-30? I live in Memphis, TN. Weather is heating up. So far no 100F days, but plenty 90s.
Working on digital pix and will send as soon as possible. Mine will probably be more boring than GATORGREG, but at least it will be different color and accessories. Next year when the economy picks up??? I'll probably go for a few more items. I'm having Katskin leather and dual control seat heaters installed today for $1,300. Where did you have your switches installed? The only place I could figure is on the plastic on the lower side of each seat (left on the driver's side, right on the passenger side) next to the big round knob. Not real convenient or visible but easier for the installer.
forgot to mention that in my last post. Should have gotten the AWD version. Too late now.
Next quarter project: install the keyless entry and security system. or have the back windows tinted. With the stock market nose-diving, prolonging my retirement plan, I can only work on one thing at a time.
Yes, I too lived my entire life in and/or near Los Angeles. I've logged many miles on the freeways around here. So the conditions on the freeway are either super fast or bumber to bumber. Maybe I wasn't clear on my first post. At doing 80% freeway driving with the MAJORITY of that time at 70 mph (because I was driving either early morning or late night to avoid traffic) I got 24MPG. At 70mph my RPM's are just a little over 2500. It's an improvement after switching to 91 octane. But still seems low to me and the need for 91 octane seems unreasonable for a 4 cylindar. So my questions are: Anyone getting better gas mileage on free flowing freeway driving? What grade octane are people using? Anyone using an octane adative to lower grade octane and getting good MPG?
I don't mean to be picky, onelife, it's just that I was trying to figure out if there was some problem starting the CR-V. I'm primarily read this forum to find problems with the '02 before I decide to purchase.
Onelife - You should've gotten the AWD model. That way you'd have gotten dad with splatter from all four tires!
Phillyguy - I have my heater switches installed in a spot to the left of the steering wheel on the lower portion of the dash. Mine is a '99 model, though. I don't recall if the '02 has free space there.
Thanks to Rerenov8r. I was not talking about a Engine problem in my last post. THE CRV started fine. Sorry about that. I guess I should have read it before I posted it. Will watch out next time.
Still trying to decide if I need to do the Oil Change this weekend? Any thoughts on that?
I replaced my 2002 Honda CRV tires with Michelin X One's. It was a huge difference in road noise and handling. You can actually trade in your original tires to a tire dealer if you have under 2000 miles. Replacing the rear door speakers with coaxial speakers and adding a subwoofer makes a big difference in sound also.
Onelife: Did you try going in reverse at any point during your July 4th "mudbath"? Or was that even an option? Forward, backward, left, right -- in a stuck situation, go whatever direction it takes. <GRIN>
5000-mile intervals should be fine for the oil change. Check the owners manual (or oil filler cap) for the recommended viscosity -- I think it may be 5W-20. There's some controversy over whether that is high enough, however. I don't think you will hurt anything by going with a 5W-30. Consider using synthetic oil if you will be frequently driving in extreme temperatures.
NSORIC: IIRC, the 2002 CR-V has one of those "chip-in-the-key" ignition systems, which provides a degree of protection against theft of the vehicle itself, but no alarm system. Insurance rates are all literally over the map, but my last 6-month premium was close to $500 for a relatively "loaded" policy.
Awhile back, I think someone posted that s/he heard that Honda would be switching to the Bridgestone Dueler H/L as the stock tire on the CR-V. Has anyone seen any CR-Vs shipped with this tire?
Follow the information in your Owner's Manual after making sure you understand the difference between "Normal" and "Severe". Who knows more about your CR-V? Honda, the company that designed and built it, or your Dealer, the person who sold it to you? The dealer would like you to change your oil at 3,000 mile intervals since it's more revenue for the dealer. Unless your dealer is offering free oil changes, wait until 5,000 miles (or 10,000 miles if you fit the "Normal" definition according to your Owner's Manual).
What speakers did you use for the rears? What subwoofer and where did you place it? Did you do the speaker upgrade yourself - if so, was it difficult? What has to be taken apart to replace the rear speakers? Why did you not replace the front door speakers?
Tires - did you get the same size Michelins as the OEM?
tough call on who to believe- the person who wants to sell you oil changes or the person who wants you to buy another car sooner. I'd probably go with the car company, because they want to you buy their car, but they both have a vested interest. Go with what makes you feel good.
I have a dog that loves being in the back of my 02 V. I would like to leave the rear glass open while driving with my dog. Is this going to break the glass. Has anyone tried this?
For those of you who might be in the market, I thought I'd relate my experience helping my dad get a new CR-V yesterday afternoon.
First, a week or so ago he shopped the "big three" small SUVs (CR-V, Escape, and Forester) to see what he wanted to buy. The loaded V6 Escapes are being heavily discounted to the point where it could be had for about the same money as the CR-V, but the fit/finish and reliability were too far down to consider it. The Forester is a very nice car, but although having about the same power rating as the CR-V, it felt noticeably less spunky. And since my dad was trading a station wagon, so wanted something a little more different that sat a little higher and drove more like an SUV. The big drawbacks of the CR-V were the firm market which limited discounts and the spare tire position on the rear. But in the end, he decided to make the CR-V the focus of our shopping. My dad wanted an auto EX in either the silver or mojave.
We visited two dealerships, and talked with three more over the phone, once we got into serious negotiations. The market for CR-V's (at least in the Seattle area) is fairly firm which really surprised me given that we're at the end of the model year. Several dealers wanted MSRP or higher and politely declined to bid on a car at below MSRP. Most of these had few cars on the lot.
One dealer had a handful on the lot and entertained our lower offers. In the end, we closed a deal for about $22K (approximately $700 under MSRP or $900 over invoice) for a mojave sitting on the lot with no demo miles. (I don't know precisely what we got off because there was a trade of a $1500 beater car involved, but I think the trade value was about right according to all the sources we have. The buying experience was very good - the salesman was courteous and the pitch at the end for extended maintenance contracts, etc. was low-key.
Again, I was surprised the market was so firm, especially in July. But the CR-V was the best car from my dad and we drove off the lot happy.
I am VERY impressed with this car. In some ways, I wish I could get around my desire to have a sportier car and get one myself - it is quite a combination of utility, nice handling, power, reasonable gas mileage, great features inside, and Honda fit/finish and reliability.
Maximx - There is potential for breaking the glass while driving. I've contemplated a few half-baked notions, but, in the end, I decided not to risk it. It's much better to simply open a side window. That's how my hounds get their airflow.
Markjenn - I'm a bit surprised that he didn't also try the Santa Fe. Does he have lingering concerns over Hyundai's long term reliability?
The problem with any rear window is exhaust fumes coming into the cabin due to the vacuum effect,I guess if you open the windows it would be minimized. We don't want to gas your dog.I would not trade my flip up rear window for the world. I saw someone carrying a long object in a PT cruser and it was sticking up in the air through an open window.Chrysler could have easily put a flip up window in.
The Michelin X One tires I purchased were the same size as the OEM. The tires with balancing and $80 credit for the original tires was $380. Worth it since these tires will last about 70K miles. The inside door panel has to be removed to install new speakers. The original speakers are 6 1/2 inch. coaxial in front and single in rear. These OEM speakers are extremely flat(no depth)and weigh only a few ounces, so replacement requires new 6 1/2 inch speakers to be custom installed or just use pioneer 5 1/4 inch. Subwoofer can be installed under seat or against side rear wall. Would recommend extra amp under the seat. I ended up using 6 1/2 in. Focals with amp and sub in rear and new tweeters in top corner of dash.
My only complaint about the 2002 CRV is the lack of a foot rest for the left foot. I can't find a comfortable place to put my left foot. Can anyone offer a suggestion? The accord and 1997 - 2001 CRV have a foot pedal for the left foot. Also, if the driver seat rocks slightly can this be fixed by the owner or does it have to be brought to the dealer?
Varmint: Nope, we never looked at the Santa Fe. I know it has tested pretty well, but the Honda just felt like a much safer purchase.
robmarch: I had a refundable deposit down on a WRX wagon when they first appeared, but during the test drive, it felt unbelievably soft off the bottom, slower than a cheap econobox unless you got it well above 3K. I loved the way it sat and steered though. In the final analysis, I just couldn't warm up to the styling which from some angles looks nice, but others it reminds me of a mid-70's Datsun F10. I think Subaru is going to fix the styling in a year or so.
Thanks for the info. I don't believe you stated if you had an LX or EX - the EX comes with tweeters in the dash. If EX, then you replaced them also?? But not the front door speakers?? Do you think an amp is needed if a sub is NOT added? What size amp did you get?
Where did you have this done? And if you don't mind, what was the cost?
The only thing surprising about your post is that a CRV'S performance was better than a v6 escape (acceleration). Hell, my main reason for going with the Honda was price and reliability. Throw in speedy performance and I'm sold all over again!!! Too Cool!
I first replaced the rear door speakers and added a small subwoofer like the one honda provides as an option. The sound was definitely improved since the rear speakers (single cone) were replaced with coaxials. Now there was more bass and a fuller sound. This was done for $500. Then I added an amp, replaced the front speakers and tweeters with Focal (similar to MB quart) coaxials and Focal tweeters and traded sub for larger Xtant sub (box placed in center rear). The sound was even greater improved with clear highs and tight bass. Total price (including first $500) was $1300. Amp is 4 channel by 40 watts per channel (Coustic amp).
OKAY,so this doesn't belong here.Anyway I took my CRV for it's first oil change (free). While waiting 30 minutes I wandered across the street to look at the 03 Foresters which were lined up like cordwood. The prices all about $26k and they still look like a station wagon and should not even be compared to the CRV.My definition of SUV includes high riding position and elbow room.It is no wonder the dealer I was at did not have any CRVs, at $3k less than Forester it is a no brainer. My mistake they did have two LX models with a $2k markup, that's wrong.I wonder how many sells are lost because people see the markup and walk away?
Tomsr - The Forester's higher trim levels also include a good deal more stuff than the CR-V EX. That helps contribute to the price.
Whotheman - I've haven't gotten the latest MT issue, but TruckTrend had a comparo months back where an Auto CR-V bested the Escape to 60mph. MT and TT often use the same performance data. That was the only acceleration measure where the CR-V won, as the Escape was faster off the line and to the 1/4 mile. Still, it shows what a little banger can do. I'll take the fuel economy and lower emissions over jack rabbit starts and drag racing.
Well whotheman, I for one won't bash the Escape cuz the IIHS already did so - giving it a "marginal" rating. Contrast the best performer, the CR-V
with the worst performer, the Escape
Varmint, I've got that same copy of Truck Trend (comparo of '02 CR-V, Escape, RAV4, and Freelander) laying around somewhere, and the funny thing is that even though they picked the Freelander as their winner cuz of its off-roading prowess, the CR-V (which also managed to complete their off-roading course) actually had the highest GPA when you look at the letter grades they assigned in each category. I've driven the Escape and I actually thought it was a pretty decent little SUV with attractive styling and good power, it's too bad the quality and safety aren't up to snuff.
"#328 of 483 by logic1 Jun 28, 2002 (04:11 pm) Does Edmunds really want people claiming to be one of their salespersons trolling the GM Sedans sites with argumentative posts? That is what whotheman is doing now. "
"#329 of 483 thanks Logic1 by steve_ HOST Jun 28, 2002 (04:22 pm) The appropriate folks have been notified. Appreciate the heads up!"
While the posts aren't argumentative, whotheman is also posting the same anti-Honda messages in the Accord forum. Now he's here. Are you sure the appropriate folks have been notified?
If you don't add leather, the only differences I saw were heated seats and driver lumbar support. MSRP of 25,220 vs 22,760.
They're definitely similarly spec'd vehicles, one for the high box crowd, and one for the low box crowd. Two pretty solid, versatile vehicles, in my opinion.
Also, I would think the Forester would have gotten better gas mileage than the CRV, rather than worse, since it is lower to the ground and smaller. I guess they might have geared it to be quicker. (Edmunds lists 21/26 vs 22/26)
Robmarch - I'll let Juice handle the content/price comparison as he's the expert on the Soobs. As for gearing, I suspect that the Forester is actually geared "slower". If the new model is like the older one, the CR-V is geared for acceleration, while the Forester is geared for relaxed highway cruising. By all counts it should be getting better mpg, but the full-time AWD probably forces it to slurp a bit.
KarenS has been kind enough to give us a link for the upcoming Northeast Honda SUV Rally over in the Owner's Club Events page. (Hey, I gotta spam every way I can)
I have been away from a while and there are A LOT of posts to catch up. Something strange happened last week: After a long work day last Thursday, I used my remote to unlock the door. When I opened the driver's door, the horn went off, just like the security system. The problem is, I DO NOT have a security system! I was able to stop the horn by pressing the unlock button on the keyless entry remote. I couldn't duplicate the problem again. I am wondering other 02' EX owners have this happened to them. Someone brought up that they need to raise the arm rest to buckle the seatbelt. Hmm, I think it is more of a personal preference. I can buckle the seatbelt without raising the arm rest. My wife has to raise it before buckling. Both of us are quite slim. I am 6' 3" and 160 lbs, she is 5'3" and 102 to 107 lbs (you know how women claim their weight can change 5 lbs within hours). There is enough "room" to buckle without raising the arm rest. She just feels it is easier to raise it before buckle up. So I think it is more of a personal preference.
We have a Forester automatic, and I drove a new Forester 5-speed yesterday. As to gearing of both models, neither has what I'd call "tall" gearing. The Forester is a good highway cruiser, even at higher speeds, but at around 60 mph, it's tacking roughly 2700 - 2800 rpm (both 5-speed and auto), which is not tall gearing at all.
I have recently noticed an odd noise coming from the front of our CR-V. During turns to the left, the right front of the car seems to "creak". I can duplicate the problem on demand. Doesn't happen at all turning to the right, only to the left. Any ideas? We have just over 8,000 miles on our CR-V and love it, although it certainly appears to have some "1st-year" jitters. My Dad's 99 EX has been flawless for 60K thus far.

Thanks.
Next quarter project: install the keyless entry and security system. or have the back windows tinted. With the stock market nose-diving, prolonging my retirement plan, I can only work on one thing at a time.
Also, what are the insurance rates out there? I got quoted $1000/year by Allstate. I live in NY.
I'll post a link describing a flooded engine --

I'm considering the RealTimje 4WD model, so I should avoid your problem.
Good Luck!
Phillyguy - I have my heater switches installed in a spot to the left of the steering wheel on the lower portion of the dash. Mine is a '99 model, though. I don't recall if the '02 has free space there.
Still trying to decide if I need to do the Oil Change this weekend? Any thoughts on that?

Did you do the speaker upgrade yourself - if so, was it difficult? What has to be taken apart to replace the rear speakers?
Why did you not replace the front door speakers?
Tires - did you get the same size Michelins as the OEM?

Markjenn - I'm a bit surprised that he didn't also try the Santa Fe. Does he have lingering concerns over Hyundai's long term reliability?
coming into the cabin due to the vacuum effect,I guess if you open the windows it would be minimized. We don't want to gas your dog.I would
not trade my flip up rear window for the world.
I saw someone carrying a long object in a PT cruser and it was sticking up in the air through an open window.Chrysler could have easily put
a flip up window in.
Subwoofer can be installed under seat or against side rear wall. Would recommend extra amp under the seat. I ended up using 6 1/2 in. Focals with amp and sub in rear and new tweeters in top corner of dash.
robmarch: I had a refundable deposit down on a WRX wagon when they first appeared, but during the test drive, it felt unbelievably soft off the bottom, slower than a cheap econobox unless you got it well above 3K. I loved the way it sat and steered though. In the final analysis, I just couldn't warm up to the styling which from some angles looks nice, but others it reminds me of a mid-70's Datsun F10. I think Subaru is going to fix the styling in a year or so.

Do you think an amp is needed if a sub is NOT added? What size amp did you get?
Where did you have this done? And if you don't mind, what was the cost?
30 minutes I wandered across the street to look at the 03 Foresters which were lined up like cordwood. The prices all about $26k and they still look like a station wagon and should not even be compared to the CRV.My definition of SUV includes
high riding position and elbow room.It is no wonder the dealer I was at did not have any CRVs,
at $3k less than Forester it is a no brainer.
My mistake they did have two LX models with a
$2k markup, that's wrong.I wonder how many sells are lost because people see the markup and walk away?
Whotheman - I've haven't gotten the latest MT issue, but TruckTrend had a comparo months back where an Auto CR-V bested the Escape to 60mph. MT and TT often use the same performance data. That was the only acceleration measure where the CR-V won, as the Escape was faster off the line and to the 1/4 mile. Still, it shows what a little banger can do. I'll take the fuel economy and lower emissions over jack rabbit starts and drag racing.
with the worst performer, the Escape
Varmint, I've got that same copy of Truck Trend (comparo of '02 CR-V, Escape, RAV4, and Freelander) laying around somewhere, and the funny thing is that even though they picked the Freelander as their winner cuz of its off-roading prowess, the CR-V (which also managed to complete their off-roading course) actually had the highest GPA when you look at the letter grades they assigned in each category. I've driven the Escape and I actually thought it was a pretty decent little SUV with attractive styling and good power, it's too bad the quality and safety aren't up to snuff.
Does Edmunds really want people claiming to be one of their salespersons trolling the GM Sedans sites with argumentative posts? That is what whotheman is doing now. "

The appropriate folks have been notified. Appreciate the heads up!"
While the posts aren't argumentative, whotheman is also posting the same anti-Honda messages in the Accord forum. Now he's here. Are you sure the appropriate folks have been notified?

They're definitely similarly spec'd vehicles, one for the high box crowd, and one for the low box crowd. Two pretty solid, versatile vehicles, in my opinion.
Also, I would think the Forester would have gotten better gas mileage than the CRV, rather than worse, since it is lower to the ground and smaller. I guess they might have geared it to be quicker. (Edmunds lists 21/26 vs 22/26)
