The brakes have been checked etc. The 99' also clunks on the down ship to a stop . Any ideas?
Both have about 40,000 miles.
That being said, I still can feel the truck vibrating even at an idle all throughout the truck. The steering wheel, floorboards, and seats as well... It's almost like flipping a quarter into one of those vibrating beds except I paid a little more than 25 cents for this truck!! LOL
Anyhow, the truck is going into the dealer on Wednesday for the third time now. As well as rough shifting (again) and a passenger side view mirror where the defroster does not seem to work anymore.
I really hope they fix the problems. I told them to check the tires, driveshaft, steering box, torque converter, and to use a EVA II (thanks obyone). BTW they said they did have an EVA II so I will see what happens.
If it does happen to come from the tires (shakes at 60-70mph) I was thinking of Michelins. Any suggestions?
I will keep you guys posted....

The yoke was put on the one piece drive shaft. There is a TSB to replace the
two piece driveshafts with the one piece for a similar problem. The two piece ones (I think)
are on the 2wd models.

I don't know for a fact that this is true. Maybe someone who knows more about it can fill us all in.

Thanks for the heads-up for the rest of us.

New problem with my 2000 Silverado, Z71, 5.3, 1500, Ext. For the last several weeks I have been getting a god awful smell from the exhaust...smells like burning trash. Occassionally some heavy smoke as well, but this is intermittent. My first thought was a bad catalytic converter and took it into the dealer today. They have had the rig all day and cannot find out what is causing this problem. They said the catalytic converter tests OK. They want to run more tests on it but I am losing confidence a little. The truck is still under full warranty so that end is not a problem.
Anyone have any knowledge or similar experiences with this kind of thing? Thanks!

Also visit this site if you have not, good info on it. http://www.gmpistonslap.cjb.net

He thinks this is too high - and I admit the engine sounds like it could blow at any moment.
GMC dealer tested and said that it was just fine. They said 2600+ was perfect.
Can anyone verify where it should RPM at this speed?
Thanks,

This is what I requested.
Fix the vibration\shimmies in the steering wheel and truck.
Fix the clunk in the steering wheel.
Engine consuming too much oil.
Right side view mirror. Defroster not working.
Rough shift between first and second. Clunk when putting into reverse and downshifting from second to first.
AC blows warm air when driving for awhile or at low speeds.
Now I know that there ARE TSB's for most of these and I told them so which was a good thing. This is what they did...
Fixed clunk in steering wheel per TSB Replacement.. although they service manager said it was just lubricant that is used.
Rough shifts... Flashed with newest calibration program.
For the clunk in the shifting and going into reverse, they ordered me a new nickel plated slip yoke as per TSB. Although they gave no ETA and said they are hard to get hold of. (Not fixed at time of truck pickup)
Ordered a new side view mirror (Not fixed at time of truck pickup)
AC.. just added more freon.. well I know its not freon anymore but I cant remember the name of the stuff... LOL
Gas pedal sticking... hesitation.. replaced with new throttle body to correct binding plates.
Excessive oil use replaced with new PCV valve per my request and TSB for it
Oh also lubed passenger door. Its squeaked since they replaced with new door checks last month.
AS FAR AS THE SHIMMIES AND VIBRATIONS. They claim its the tires\wheels supposedly as per the EVA II which I asked to be used per your request. He also mentioned that since I DID NOT have the stock Firestones but the Pirelli Scorpion AT's he would do nothing. He also noted the tires were cupped/chopped. I told him these tires were better than the stock POS Fstones. He told me to go back to the place where I got them and complain which I said was BS.
Or... if I put the Firestones back on.. he said "then its my problem" I said I will see you soon since I have to go back for the mirror and the slip yoke.
Now... what should I do??? Put the Firestones back on.. which I dont really want to do because the truck still did it then.. or.... put them back on and let him see what BS line(s) he feeds me then.. Or do I call GM Customer Assistance and tell them its BS and that I should NOT have to take these tires off for him to fix the problem. I know he is just using it as an easy way out...
Obyone.. your thoughts??? Or anyone else.. feel free to add..
Thanks.

The math;
((245*.75*2/25.4)+ 16)*22/7/12= 7.98 feet per tire revolution.
at 75 MPH you are going 75*5,280/60 =6,600 feet per minute
6,600 feet per minute / 7.98 = 827 tire revolutions per minute
with a 4.1 rear end and .75 final drive ratio
827 * 4.1 *.75 =2,543 RPM - because yout tire is not 100% round take this number * 102%
2,543 * 1.02 = 2,594
If you don't like this RPM at 75 - put on bigger tires!!
Sounds pretty far fetched as my truck is always garaged, however, I guess anything is possible. I had been thinking of running a cat back dual exhaust system anyways, so I might go ahead and just do that on the assumption that that will cure the problem.

if not, buy a new rear yoke shaft and make sure it is lubed while being installed

I have used Zaino Z5 on some pretty bad scratches and it took em right out
Might wanna look into the 3m products
Also, I noticed Mobil 1 15W-50W synthetic on the shelf. Seems like this would be the ideal oil for hot weather. Comments? Thanks!
GM recommends 5W-30 or 10W-30. I would use the 10W-30 in hot weather.
I am experiencing vibrations but at ALL speeds. Did yours feel like you where feeling road vibrations being picked up from the road but felt from your steering wheel? I know it sounds crazy but that is the only way that I can explain it. I would be interested to hear your comments.
As far as tires Im not sure how big you can go without any rubbing going on. I believe that Ryan and some of the others have when from 265's to 285's so maybe those guys can tell ya. I have the stock size that came with my truck 265's and there is plenty o'room.
I am getting new Michelin LTX M\S put on my truck this week most likely. I will post back and let you know how they are.. But according to www.tirerack.com and Obyone they are GREAT!
I took the Firestones off at 500 miles and put on the Sears version of the Michelin LTX M\S, in load range C. The truck now has 61 K on it and these tires still have about 10 K miles left. Seem to very good in all conditions. They have worn very evenly with just rotating every 5-8K, never had them aligned.
I think you will be very happy with them; do wish they made 285s.
