Ha, you think I should stick a note under his windshield about Town Hall (and also the guy at the end of the block who goes topless all the time too and the squirrels keep setting off his alarm jumping on his seats)? Steve Host Vans, SUVs and Aftermarket & Accessories Message Boards
Yep..Tom..Been painting again... did some yard work..And of course went cruising topless again...3 days in a row... But, i'm not pressing my luck..just put the top back up. Got rained on a little today, but no biggy...
I actually know someone who installed a fuel atomizer on his little 4 cyl rice box. I think it is the same atomizer I had posted about a few weeks back. Remember the website with all of the annoying pop up adds? He claims (get ready for this....don't know if I believe it yet) that his mileage went from 35-40 on hwy to 65-70 instantly. And after about a year of use his mileage is still around 65-70 on hwy, upper 40's to lower 50's around town with overall mpg's between 55-60. The only maintenance is cleaning out a sludge chamber every month or so. He says the chamber simply unscrews off and screws back on. I know, little 4cyl car is no jeep. But hey, I would be happy with a 5 mile per gallon increase.
Sahargal: how do you sleep knowing your jeep is almost there?
Don't know if I ever mentioned that I never did take delivery on that green wrangler. I need to resolve a parking issue first. I am trying to keep my cherokee and I don't have space for two cars. The dealer said he would hold it for a while (with my deposit of course). I'll have to check back tomorrow to see if they still have it.
It's not easy, but I'm hanging in there. Won't be long now. I'm hoping everything's OK when I go to look at it. I'm a fairly patient person. Particularly when I'm spending money!
You can post up to about 4 of 5 of them in this discussion topic. But please keep the image size to 640X480 so that it doesn't skew the screen width. However, you can post as many as you like in the Jeep Wrangler Photo gallery topic in the owner's club area.
Madman, could you please go into the Photo gallery topic, delete your last post, and then repost it? I cannot view the topic with Netscape (no one can) because your image files end with something else other than .jpg (they end with ".jpg.orig.jpg"). You need to change them to ".jpg".
You can set the width of the image by adding width="640" height="480" after the URL to your image file. For example, [img src="your image file URL here" width="640" height="480"]. Replace the [ and ] with < and >.
Your right that web site is outstanding, thanks! That Poweraid looks like what I have been hearing about. All it is, is a chamber that imparts turbulence to the fuel, thus better combustion. There is noting inside to "clean out".
lookin4 - I think what your talking about is something else. The mpg "sounds" good, but sludge? What's that all about? I am getting 18 to 20 mpg, I am happy with that. 50 mpg would be nice, but the inline 6 is a small tractor engine, built for power. The fact it can get the mileage it does is impressive. My Harley got 35 to 40 mpg, but I never tried to cross a mud hole or go down roads made by goats (well not sober anyway).
tsjay - sorry I didn't make it tonight it was such a nice day and ..
Drew - Thanks for the info, as soon as I get them developed, I'll give it a try.
When I cleaned the jeep up, I noticed the water had sprayed inside the engine space. Do I get some kind of jeep points for "taking her that deep"?
Got rid of the pics in the picture section. Seems that Sony's imagestation won't let me display them any other way. So here's a link to the page. Maybe this will work.
Great news! I didn't have to leave my baby girl overnight!!! They fixed the leak and I got her back this afternoon.
They said it was the seal where the heater housing goes through the firewall. That tip about the foam rubber seal being saturated with water really helped them to find the leak. Tonkadave said his was seal was wet, and when I checked Thelma Jane, hers was too. I passed that on to the service manager, and he said that was good info. Thanks, Tonks!
Isn't somebody here a sales type for one of these outfits?
Also, what is the trick again to avoid rubbing? (I know it involves washers on some stop up front to decrease turning radius, but where and how?)
What I am looking for in lift is maybe a 1-2" lift, but do not need the monster type of application. Maybe a mildly stretched set of springs and shocks. Looking for a quality kit with good instructions.
This basic coil suspension provides added lift to clear up to 32 x 11.50 tires. This kit includes four coil springs (front & rear), four bump stop extensions and one rear track bar bracket kit.
I can't say enough about the TeraFlex lift kit because they are great. Great peformance for on and off road. I've been using them for over three years and I'm not saying that just because I'm a dealer )
Well, I went to pick the Sharah up this afternoon. OOPS! They prepped the wrong one! They got the 5-speed ready instead of the automatic. Oh well, it will be ready in the morning.
Here's another thing that happened: it came in with speed control and Dana 44 w/Trac Lok. The sales manager is still selling it to me for $200 below the invoice price of the way it was supposed to be optioned! Yep. $21, 437. (That's $200 below Edmunds invoice price which only includes base, options and destination)
What I'm a little uncomfortable about is this $399 processing fee. He said it's for paper work and the other processing type stuff. It's on their sales agreement form as, "Nalley Services."
I don't remember paying this before, but it's been a long time since I bought a car. There was also some kind of security etching already done to the windows for $197. He said they do it on every car they get for insurance reasons. Anyone heard of this before??
The sales manager did not add any type of advertising fees to the total, even though there was $285 worth of charges on the invoice. No charge added for the Owner Loyalty mail stuff or the 8 gallons of gas either.
That processing fee and etching thing are the only dubious part of what just might be an incredible deal.
That "paper work" fee is much higher than I have ever heard of. All dealers that I know of charge some kind of fee, but it's usually no more than $200, and often much less than that. (They charged me $149 "Customer Service Fee" on Thelma) It still sounds like you got a great deal, though.
That etching thing on the windows sounds like a rip off to me. It's probably a good thing to do, but they should give the customer the option as to whether or not this should be done by them. I'm sure it could be done MUCH cheaper somewhere else! They just use it as a way to put more profit into the deal, I'm sure.
Regardless of that, you DID get a good deal, so just enjoy that Jeep!
Be sure and post some pics as soon as you can and tell us about all the fun you are having!
That road armor top is something..... definitely unique looking.....I would like to see it up close before I thought about buying one. Of course I need to buy a jeep first......
You paid less for a sahara than what I almost paid for a sport....Did you get dual tops? Invoice on the sport was 21,373......OK guys, I am a little confused......I spoke to a jeep dealer in PA on monday. He has almost the same sport (minus side steps, tow hook and fog lamp group) that I nearly bought here in NY with an invoice of 19,700. Now side steps and fog light group does not add up to the difference in invoices. How can this be? Edmunds invoice is about 21,320's. Kelly Blue book within a few dollars of edmunds. Does anyone have an explanation? Did they pull this jeep up from the bottom of a river?
$400 for processing fees!! That's utter crap! I recall paying something like $200. I pry could have argued it away, but didn't feel like it.
As for the etching i've never heard so much hooey. Insurance purposes? Who's insurance? Definitely not yours! Do they want you to pay their insurance premiums too? If they want to get the etching done to the vehicles they get to reduce their insurance that's fine (of course, the customer should be able to say no). But they should be the ones to pay for it, not the customer who didn't ask for it.
Of course, i paid nearly 22k (out the door) for my sport so you may want to eat it. *shrug*
You could be looking at a difference in ad fees between the two Jeeps you are comparing. The ad fees vary from region to region around the country, and they are higher in metropolitan areas to cover the extra cost of air time on radio and television stations in these areas.
Edmunds does not include ad fees in their invoice pricing, probably because of the variation in them across the country.
Lets start with the jeep in PA. 19,726 to be exact. add $66 for side steps and $158 for the fog light group. That's $19,950. Invoice on the jeep in NY is $21,373. That is a $1,423 difference. Could advertising be $1,400? Wonder if a bridge came with that jeep in NY.
How do you folks maintain the white letters on your tires? I rubbed against a curb and now my pretty white letters are smudged! Help! I want to keep my new jeep looking good at least until it passes 1000 miles!
I called another Jeep dealership in Atlanta, and he said everyone pays that $399. I'll look into it further.
I almost feel like the deal itself is so good that it's not worth worrying too much about it. That window etching I mentioned earlier does bother me. I haven't had a chance to speak with my insurance agent about how it might lower my auto insurance. If it does lower my rates, then it's not such a rip off.
The price of $21,437 with 30" wheels, Dana 44, Trac Lok, metal doors, Cruise, add a trunk, and sentry key, sounds pretty darn good, no matter how you slice it!
Nope, I wouldn't think there is THAT much difference in the ad fees. Maybe three or four hundred bucks at most.
I can't explain what's going on there. Have you actually SEEN these invoices, or are you going by what the dealers have told you?
The one in Pa sounds too low, and the one in NY sounds about right. Is the one in Pa maybe a Canadian Jeep? I hear that because of the exchange rate on our currency and theirs that Jeep can be bought much cheaper up there and that some dealers buy them and sell them here.
Thelma Jane's invoice was $21,883.00, with $285 in ad fees included in that figure.
I have seen the NY invoice but not the PA one. Good point about the PA dealer possibly selling a Canadian jeep. I'll have to check that out.
The NY invoice is $21,373 with a $400 advertising fee included in that number. There is no additional processing fee or dock fee it is sometimes called like saharagal was charged. Don't know what is up with that?
For $21,883 what options does that include. Can't remember, did you pay 100 or 200 over invoice. Hope you don't mind me asking but I need something to compare to before I actually purchase..... Sahargal definitely got a great deal. Also just checked out tazz's jeep.....pretty sweet.
Not to confuse you but when I say edmunds price is 21,320's, I add the $400 NY advertising fee to edmunds 20,920's price.
Sounds like a great deal if they are throwing in the trak-loc and not charging you ad fees, owner notification , or gas. The $300-400 charge for "docs/prep" is pretty typical around ATL from my experience. You've got to go to Jasper or one of the dealers way outside of town to avoid or reduce it.
As for the etching fees, see if they show the same $197 etching on a Grand Cherokee on the lot. If they do, tell him you'll pay 20% ($40) of the total, since you only have ONE glass window on your Jeep! The Grand has at least 5, so your cost should be no more than 20%... I would refuse to pay it if you didn't ask for it, but considering it sounds like you're getting trak-loc for free, maybe just push for for Jeep shirts and goodies. Either way, by tomorrow afternoon it won't matter.
Good luck and at least drop in for a quick update tomorrow.
Please just go to Thelma's web page and look at the print out there. That shows the retail prices, and not invoice, but it shows all the options that I got.
For all you see there, the invoice was $21,883.00 including the ad fees and destination charge. I paid $149 for processing fee and tax and license on top of the $21,883.00, plus the $200.00 over invoice we agreed to.
$399 for doc fees!!!I need to file new car papers in Atlanta..thats a rip off..$399 to file papers. But then again if your geeting the DANA & Tracloc..for free..its a wash out. Whats your
And a whole bunch of Edmunds.com stuff! That's Dana, Tac Lok, and Cruise for free! Plus, no advertising fees ($285 listed on invoice).
It's: Vehicle Price: $21,437($1346 worth of options and destination) 7% tax: OUCH! $1,542 tag, title, etc. $41 Processing and fees $399 Secure Etch $197
For a grand total of:
$23,616 out the door--that's if I actually do pay for the Secure Etch, which is buggung me more and more! I really don't think I want to pay it. The $399 I guess sounds like it's reasonable around these parts!
You ain't EVEN gonna worry about how much you paid for that Jeep: you'll be having too much fun with it!
But, you DID get a great deal! There's no denying that!
You'd better do some serious posting now. You gotta share your joy with us. I'm dying to hear your first impressions and how your kids like it. (Isn't it sad to refer to that poor little Jeep as an "it?" You need a name for her!)
Westly's bleach white, you can get it at Target or any other store pretty much. Just spray it on and then get a tire brush and and scrub, spray, scrub, then hose off. Nice and white!
I used SOS pads back in the "good old days" on white wall tires, and they made the white walls real nice and white, so maybe they would do the same for white letters????
thanks tsjay......The differences in your jeep and the one a may buy is yours has the hardtop, deep tint windows and speed control, mine has the foglight group and the useless add a trunk.
Wonder why the dealer in NY is not charging me a doc fee? He gave the final numbers with tax and there is no doc fee included. Title, tags and license is an additional $72. Plus $13 for a full tank of gas plus 8.5% sales tax. That was it.
hmmmm....maybe 350 over invoice isn't so bad if there is no doc fee....I better check with the dealer again just so I am not putting my foot in my mouth......
Saharagal....talk about ouch...sales tax here in NY is 8.5%....double ouch!!!
lookin - in our market, the doc fee line shoudl be relabeld PROFIT. I understand they have overhead, but I paid $0 on our Ford, and close to $400 on the Jeep. Supply and demand I guess. I have the detailed pricing on our Sport if you're interested. Email me offline treyatewyliedotcom.
I didnt have any doc fees.. the 3 local dealers i looked at around Bham only 1 had a doc fee on $100. You guys are paying WAY too much sales tax on a car. Only 3.125% in Bama. I paid $23,161 out the door for TAZZ but..I had to pay $810.00 in sales tax when I got back to Bama. On the big pic I belive you got a good deal. I'm sure the Jeep will be worth every penny. Congratulations again. Give that TJ a name. Now we gotta get DWrangler in a Jeep
What have most people done as far as the extended service contracts? I've leased my last couple of cars, so I haven't had to concern myself with service beyond the warranty period. I don't plan on buying an extended plan.
What have you guys been doing out there?
By the way, I don't have to pay for the Secure Etch--whether it's on the car when I get there to take delivery or not!
I think you are picking your Jeep up on the hottest day of the year so far. You'll definitely be testing the AC, top down or up! Have a great time with yoru new Jeep.
I am not a believer in extended service contracts, but I'm guessing many people swear by them and will have experience of them saving big money by getting them. My thought is if you have the money to pay for them in cash up front, take that money, tuck it away, and use it to make sure you do ALL maintenance per spec. I also endorse finding a service manager that you trust and let them do everything that you don't do. I change my own oil, battery, alternator (all the bolt on stuff), but generally let them do major services like brakes, coolant, tranny service. If you have a relationship with the service mgr and they know you take care of your vehicle they are more likely to go to bat for you if something fails out of warranty. I've foiund they have a fair bit of discretion in covering stuff even after the warranty has lapsed. If you want to finance the service contract, buying it up front generally is the cheapest way to go. The pricing is as negotiable as the Jeep.
BamaTazz - taxes... I wouldn't mind the taxes if I thought they were supporting a good school system and a well maintained infrastructure, but GA has neither right now, so I feel pretty shafted. Even without kids, I'd like to see better school systems in our state. On the other hand, I grew up in VA, where the schools were very good and taxes were still reasonable. Maybe the fact that my part of the state wasn't growing nearly as fast as the ATL metro area explains it.
I must admit that I bought one for the '99 Grand Cherokee Laredo, and I think I had one on another vehicle that I bought one time.
In general, I am sort of against them, since you have your original warranty to protect you for the first 36,000 miles. If you have a lemon, you ought to know it by the time that original warranty expires. If you get through your first 36,000 miles with no serious problems, then I think that you will probably be able to count on at least 100,000 miles before you are looking at major repairs. I also believe that the extended warranties are available right up until your original warranty expires, so you can still buy one if you have experienced problems in your first 36K miles and you are concerned about long term reliability. They cost more then, but you can still get them.
Like Trey said, if you get one, please remember that the price is very much negotiable! There is a huge mark up for the dealer in those policies.
I have to tell you after looking at your pics that you have changed my mind on black jeeps. Really didn't like black on a jeep that much. There are not many around here. Solar yellow, patriot blue and amber fire are very popular. Coincidentally, I saw a black sahara the same day I visited your website. Definitely looks sharp......
keep that baby shining.....I know black is tough to keep clean.
In skimming through the 40+ messages since yesterday, I noticed something about the "useless" add-a-trunk. Although I agree it's tough to fit a lot in there, it's worked perfectly for me as a storage compartment for my full cover. Without it I'd have a big, unruly bundle of canvassy stuff loose back there, not to mention some armor all, Quick Detail, and a few odds and ends that would make my jeep look pretty unkempt. So for me, it's useful for that.

Don't know why the doc fee is so low. Anyone have any ideas?
I found a page with a really slick trailer/tent:

the 3 local dealers i looked at around Bham only 1 had a doc fee on $100.
You guys are paying WAY too much sales tax on a car. Only 3.125% in Bama.
I paid $23,161 out the door for TAZZ
but..I had to pay $810.00 in sales tax when I got back to Bama.
On the big pic I belive you got a good deal. I'm sure the Jeep will be worth every penny.
Congratulations again. Give that TJ a name.
Now we gotta get DWrangler in a Jeep
Got Jeep?

What have you guys been doing out there?
By the way, I don't have to pay for the Secure Etch--whether it's on the car when I get there to take delivery or not!

Got that Jeep yet?????
You'd better post! I want to hear all about it!
