Simca?
I'm going to say it is the horrifying Triumph Herald. Was I right? Not to be too hard on the car (lol!) but I was given one of these once to sell for someone, so I had to drive it around, and I distinctly remember the thought that ran through my mind at the time---and this, mind you, from someone who regularly drove MGBs, Morgans, TR6s, etc---as I was driving it I thought:
"Did someone build this in their backyard?"
This is a good way to use a Herald:
Regarding the "French Mercedes", I can see it, esp in the 604.
kind of appropriate, since the Amphicar used the Herald engine.

All I remember is the dashboard moving left to right as I went over bumps. To be fair, it was a very simple, basic car---a British Trabant! I also remember that when you started it, your feet would wiggle on the floorboards. I think the door panels were cardboard.
G'day
Nice and easy because it says it on the bonnet. A Peugeot 403 from early 1960's. They continued to make them for some years after introducing the lovely 404 in about 1960.
They were also assembled in Australia, where the success of Peugeots in rugged 1950s around-Australia reliability trials meant that they were very attractive to rural dwellers. They certainly seemed to steam on for ever and were still reasonably common on the roads when I go my license in the mid 1970's.
The 404 which succeeded them also soldiered on for decades. I saw a nicely maintained one a few days ago, probably 50 years old and still going strong!
Cheers
Graham
Yes, the 403 and succeeding Pugs were renowned for their ruggedness and for that reason(combined w their plushy ride) were hugely popular in Africa, Asia Minor and other places w poor roads.

1956 Customline Victoria.
1962 Valiant.
1961 Chevy + 1955 Chevy.
I guess the Professor's fintail or Peugeot is parked closer to the building
I think that's a TR-3 behind a couple Falcons, at right.
Was there a Ford Victoria (not Crown) of that era that wasn't a hardtop?
Sure that '62 isn't a Dodge Lancer rather than a Valiant? I know it's tough to call on these from only the rear profile.
I think you're right, the taillight is too high for it to be a Valiant. I was thinking Dart, but it's not that, either.
A friend had a 604 diesel. It was probably the most comfortable car I've ever ridden in.
When the heater core started leaking it was a 12 hour job. He got ride of it when he couldn't find a shop that would work on it.
Just head of the Valiant, or is it a Lancer, there's a Triumph TR3 or (more likely TR3A)

1961 Impala bubbletop on the left just behind the Ford.
Wake up, Lostwrench! Can't you see there is lettering on the door making it a Lancer?
In front of the brace of Falcons is what looks like a '55 Chevy, and in front of that a '57 Ford.

I don't think anyone has mentioned the 1960 Oldsmobile next to the black '56 Ford in the foreground. From that angle it doesn't appear to have the full wraparound windshield but with that front fender contour it has to be a 1960.

I went with its being a 61 Chevy because of the lack of side horizontals behind the headlights and that the front fender contour "overlap" climbed diagonally up to the front of the hood. The "overlap" contour on the Olds remained horizontal going to the front of the hood.

That's a Kaiser toward the end in the US, maybe 54 or 55. If not, it's a later Latin American manufactured model.
Holy Toledo! Oops, wrong city.
Yup, that's a USA-made 1954 Kaiser. This one has been restored and resto-moded (Chevy V8+THM autobox). Not many of these were made w two doors.

There's one of those hatch models that drives by my place daily - I suspect it has no exhaust system at all, and is otherwise ruined by its stancebro owner. Ugh.
Indeed!

When I met my wife, she was driving a '90 240SX hatch.. I never liked it... and, was glad to sell it in 1994.

Those of you (.@stickguy, @explorerx4 and @qbrozen) who guessed Macan a while back as the new addition to the Edmunds.com fleet just from the little tail light snippet, y'all were right.

Didn't they offer a V-6 in the 240SX for one year?
pretty sure that version was 4 cyl. only. One of the later styles may have had a 6.

It's a 52 Chevy. So close enough

I'll take the 48-49 Caddy behind the Ford box in front of Gimbels.
I'll grab the '55 Plymouth up front on the other side of the island from the Ford box.

As to the closest car, that side trim running back and then down the sides of the trunk lid indicates Oldsmobile, but the year?
Maybe a 51 Mercury ahead of the front street car?
The closest car, facing "up", is something like a 51 Plymouth, isn't it?
Ahaa, that's it, a 51 Plymouth. I thought I matched that side trim with a 47 Olds but couldn't match that trunk handle. Lostwrench, you're benched.
I admit I had to search, I initially thought it was a Dodge. The Olds would look proportionally larger, but I think some had a fastback with a kink in the C-pillar.
Seen today
That's a Lancia something isn't it?
Lancia Flavia or 2000, around 1971?
Yes - Its a Lancia 2000 - quite rare even when new in the UK, - this one was registered in 1972/3. The coupe always sold in larger numbers than the saloons here. - I can't remember the last time I saw one of these.
Yep, Lancia was a good car gone bad. It would be like turning all BMWs into Jettas and Golfs.
