SOMEONE PLEASE ADDRESS WHY THEY DIDNT PUT STEREO CONTROLS IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE EXPEDITION HAS THEM, THE YUKON HAS THEM - WHY DIDNT TOYOTA DO THIS???!!!!
Does the sequioa really have a truck like ride or is the ride smooth like a car (I think not) Please share your experiences. Is it easy to get one now at closer to invoice price without wait in Norcal Thanks
I tow between 5000-5300 lbs. I do not use sway bars or equalizing hitch! The Sequoia IMHO can tow up to its 6200 limit without a problem and without additional equipment in most cases. In some cases sway bars or other things can cause dangerous conditions due to improper tongue weight. Of course there are situations also where additional equipment should be used. It depends on what you're towing and what is recommended. My Sequoia tows my boat really well without anything additional.
Re:brakes. Trailer Boats magazine (new one)has a feature on electric vs. surge brakes for boats. You may want to check it out.
Why is "3 Sequoias" such an odd thing? I don't think that's a lot of cars at all. How can the consumers have any selection at all if dealers don't have a few here and there?
I guess I just don't understand your point. How many cars total does that dealer usually stock? 200? (Guessing)... 1% or 2% of your total line up is "collecting dust", let's say for that dealer? I just want to understand your thinking here.
I notice as I have read in some of these post that this 10 speaker system just does not seem to produce VOLUME. I am going in to the dealer for my 3750 mile check up tomorrow and will be posing the question there but has anyone else heard anything about this?
Help! I had a car seat on the second row seat. Like an idiot I forgot to put a towel underneath the thing and left it in place for a couple of months. I removed the seat today (booster seat) and there is a linear streaky stain about 4 inches long where the front of the booster seat rested. I think it is from the dye on the trim of the booster which was in contact with the leather. I tried the Lexol leather cleaner but it did not work. Any suggestions?
As you know, if you turn your stereo on while in radio mode the antenna automatically goes up. When you switch over to DC or tape mode the antenna stays up. However, if you turn on your stereo while it is in DC or tape mode, the antenna does not go up at all. Although it is rather clumsy, if you want to listen to a DC or tape with you antenna down merely put your stereo in DC or tape mode, turn the stereo off and then turn it back on.
You can also turn the "radio" on by pressing any one of the buttons (CD/AM/FM/Cass) on the right side. If you want to listen to the CD, without the antenna going up, press the CD button and the radio will turn on.
Is the Hood Protector useful in deflecting insects from impacting the windshield? I noticed during our first "interstate" trip that the windshield seems to be a magnet for insect kamikazes. I am not sure if this is due to an unusual amount of insect activity or due to the near-verticalness of the Sequoia windshield.
I have the hood protector and I don't think it makes a difference. I think the bugs just fly at that altitude! I can't keep the windshield clean at all. Maybe a coating of baby oil will work?!? You can be the guinnie pig if you want.
This dealer has never had more than 1 Seq. on his lot, and many times none, over the last 3 months. There was no great point here, just a piece of data, as I had a few minutes to kill during an errand and took a quick drive by the dealer. I expect to see the April sales/delivery numbers posted shortly for Sequoias, which should be up again after a strong March number. Unfortunately, my interest level in buying a Seq. has softened substantially during the past month, triggered by the gas price spike. I'm not really surprised now by some of the early reports that are showing 12 and 14 mpg in the real world, given the weight and heft. So I'm currently rethinking, since I have several months left before the lease expires. I may choose to sacrifice space and take on the occasional inconvenience of being jammed a little, such as on vacation, in order to obtain more moderate mileage performance. Of course if the net prices drop by another $1000 - 2000 (last price I had was invoice + $1700 + state tax + registration), then the fuel cost differential is offset, making it a neutral to positive decision. So if other Seq. fans like 714cut don't want lurkers participating in the forum then I'll rest my keyboard. Doesn't make any difference to me. I still think the Seq. has the best value in this segment, but that Toyota should pay attention to the feedback, problems and annoyances raised in this forum. This is valuable feedback that every manufacturer should want in order to improve the product.
The antennae is about 2" higher than the roof rack. I tell my customers to use this as a guide to see if they can fit in a parking garage. If the antennae hits, you are less than 2" from violently removing your roof rack. Very handy stuff.
Judging by the recent spate of posts in here and other discussions, many people are using these Spring weekends to go out and buy new cars. Congrats to all on their new rides.
In housekeeping matters, please remember that the Terms of Use (participants agreement) frowns on dealer soliciting or promoting. Thanks. Steve Host Vans, SUVs and Aftermarket & Accessories Message Boards

Ford does the same thing with a very thin (probably 1/4 the Sequoia diameter) flexible whip antannae. It's black and essentially invisible to the eye. Probably 1/20th the cost of the retractable. Zero maintenance cost. Toyota are you listening!!!!
In response to the message posted about the ride, I drove a Ford Explorer for 2-1/2 years and couldn't stand the truck-like rider. After testing the Yukon, Tahoe, Expedition, etc. I found that the Sequoia had the most car-like rider around. Of course, it's still an SUV but I find the rider very comfortable.
To: "Steve_ HOST" As a consumer, I would like to reply to your message. I have been in the market for a Toyota Sequoia for a few months. I came to your site to get some information. I think I have gotten some wonderful help. A great deal of it has come from two people, Diane4toytoa and Cliffy1. They have been helpful, knowledgeable and their conduct has been, IMHO, above reproach. Had they been soliciting my business, I would have had less trust for them. I sure hope you are not discouraging them from being active participants on this board, as I feel we need them and their detailed and helpful into. If you drive folks like them away, you will be reducing the worth of this board! Folks like myself will be forced to shop for our info elsewhere. Thanks for considering another perspective! Joanne
In my opinion, the two main known dealers on the Sequoia forums, Dianne4Toyota and Cliffy1 have done an excellent job not soliciting sales. I think some of the best information that is on these websites comes from those "in the know". They can provide a link between us users and the Toyota chain of command and customer satisfaction. I understand the limitation of solicitation, but I think it is being judged too harshly. Please don't hurt your forum by riding it too closely. Please let the dealers participate. Thanks.
dianne, please post the website address for the toyota parts place you mentioned before. I can not find it. Just got new SR5 2W Red Monday. I love it. Had to order it. Red is rare. AC, AH, CC, CQ, DR, GY, Carpet Mats, GBS, Door Guards, and Woodgrain Trim. We were blessed and happy to get 2442 off of MSRP. Anyway I need the address to check on Toyota stock hood bug deflector. I will write more later. Appreciate all the info you, Cliffy1, and everyone seems to be finding out. Mcmatt appreciate your digging on the tech info on the software settings. Anyway Dianne please post web address. As you can guess from my handle I own a 1987 Supra Turbo which I still have and enjoy driving also.
She will not be able to respond to any of your messages. She was banned from Edmunds yesterday by Dana who is the main administrator here at Edmunds. The reason given was her frequent "solicitations" here. I'm not real happy about this but I will leave it to you all to decide how fair this is.
I would like to take this opportunity to point a few things out that some of you may not be aware of. Beyond the sound advise she has offered here, she genuinely gains a lot of good information from all of you.
She is also very well connected within Toyota and was actually instrumental in getting two different things changed within Toyota. Those were the TSB on the Land Cruiser stereo and the "hammertone" trim on the Limited Sequoia. For 2002, the oak interior will have a matching dash and this is thanks largely to Dianne's pleading of your cases. It will be a shame to loose her participation here.
As a long time lurker on various boards, I concur with everyone's positive comments on cliffy and dianne. I have picked up valuable information which will ultimately help me make a decision on which vehicle I buy - most likely a Sequoia. I believe that Edmunds and Dana (who I have never heard of before now) had good intentions when they banned dianne, but they are doing everyone involved a great disservice by banning her. I see nothing wrong with someone such as dianne saying "I sell Toyota's, contact me at xxxxx if interested". If that was all she added to the forum it would be one thing, but that is far from the case.
Come on Edmunds, do the right thing. Admit you've made a mistake and let dianne back in. These forums wouldn't amount to much if the only people here were those of us asking the questions.
I am only a lurker on this board but a active participant on the land cruiser forum. I have never seen Dianne post a message that I would consider an inappropriate solicitation. Rather, I have learned alot from Dianne and appriciate her often insightful comments. Can the Edmunds editors please refer us to the postings that you have found in violation of your standards? Might I suggest that if you have indeed banished her form this forum, you might owe the members a definitive explanation. Untill such clear evidence is forthcoming, I find your actions distressing and offensive.
No offense, but Dianne has in the past HAS solicited business on this site--including placing prices and availabilty of vehicles at her dealerships. That is not the purpose of this forum. She has also, fairly or unfairly, criticized other dealers....This is not fair to the dealers (and I am not a car dealer) who play by Edmund's rules. It is also not fair for the consumer; you are not getting unbiased data from dealers regarding pricing on this forum.
That being said, I think dealers should be allowed on the site, to post facts and to clear up misconceptions, which both Dianne and Cliffy have been of great benefit in tht past. Admittedly, Dianne is also a very good source of info on the Seq. Hopefully she will be allowed back on the site down the road, and will avoid bending the rules.

I was at a Toyota dealership and saw a Seqouia with wood in the interior, I thought this option wasn't available. Someone please help with some info on this, I pick up my Seqouia in three days and would like wood in the interior.
It's had to believe Dana would ban Diane, who is the best resource on this forum after Cliffy. She may be more direct than what the Edmund hosts like but her intention is good. A lot of us have benefited from her contributions.
Let the participants make the objection instead of Dana making the decision.
So far, I haven't seen any posting objecting Diane's conduct. Rather, her comments are often sought after by the users of this board. Let the users decide.
I agree that Dianne has been a very useful source of information on this board, and she should have her privileges restored ASAP. Perhaps some of her posts were promotional rather than informational but in the several months last year prior to the release of the Sequoia she spent a lot of time answering questions and getting up to the minute inside information and pictures that helped people like myself make buying decisions. If Edmunds wants participants on this board to migrate over to the Tundra solutions board then keep it up.
Interaction with individual members about the Terms of Use is a privacy and policy issue that should not be debated/discussed on the boards, not to mention that it is a disruption to the discussion at hand.

The Toyota brochure states the SR5 PM package comes with HEATED seats. Can anyone confirm that the PM package SHOULD include heated leather seats or is this a misprint in the brochure.
If I use the lockout button to lock the windows so rear passenger children cannot use window controls, then my driver controls also do not work. I have to release the unlock button to put a passenger window up or down, and then lock it again. This can't be the way it was designed, can it??? Thanks.
To my great surprise when I crawled under the sequoia, there is no rubberized coating underneath the car except in the wheel well. Even in the wheel well the coating is not complete. I wonder if this is normal. Of course, the dealer offered to apply undercoating to the car for a price but I didn't go for it.
With so much metal surfaces exposed I wonder how a vehicle could fight rust. My Volvos' underside are completely coated except where it obviously shouldn't be. I also have read articles that advise against applying more undercoating on top of what manufacturers have already applied.
Well, it seems like Toyota barely applied it.
Cliffy, do you have an explanation. Should I worry about premature rust? Thanks.
Why are you taking one for a test drive? You already had a Sequoia on order that you cancelled due to rising fuel costs. You have raised a valid point about fuel economy and maybe the Sequoia is not for you. Surely you test drove one when you placed your order. Why do you keep going back? What is another test drive going to change? (although we'd love to have you as a fellow Sequoia owner)!
Don't know a lot about all current models but I've been paying extra for undercoating since the early 70's and never had a problem with it or the vehicle. My wife's 71 Sub had it done before we met and the car was solid in 80 on trade in. Her brother didn't do it on an 84 and rusted like an old bolt, but I heard those years were bad. Seems like when the underside is clean and unused it can't hurt and may be wise if you plan to hold as long as we seem to.
I picked up my Sequoia a couple weeks ago and it runs great. I have not noticed any problems with the vehicle.I am glad I went with the Toyota rather than the Tahoe. My neighbor also owns a Sequoia which replaced his Tahoe and he has no regrets. My neighbor tells me the quality and ride of the Sequoia is far beyond the Tahoe. It appears you get what you pay for.
I did use e-loan when I was searching for a new car loan on our Highlander. I started in late January and re-applied two more times as my vehicle was delayed in arriving. At the time, I was given a competetive rate of 7.35% / 48 mo. (max loan amount 20k). The last time I applied they offered 7.25% / 48 mo. As it turned out, I did not need them after all. The dealer, after seeing the e-loan package, found a local credit union which was offering 7.1% / 48 mo. so I took it. I would recommend that you check out http://www.bankrate.com to check out rates, etc. in your area. Interestingly enough, the particular credit union I am using for my loan was not listed. Good luck...
Just heard of the banishment of Dianne and felt I had to throw in my thoughts. I have been a lurked on this forum for quite a while, and have not seen any "violations" of the Terms and Use policy that would have her removed from this forum. What I have seen is someone who is willing to take time away from what she could be doing to "make a sale" to answer our questions and generally help people with their concerns. This, I believe, is what this kind of forum is all about. I hope that Dana will reconsider this decision, and I truly believe that that is the general sentiment of this forum.
I have an SR5 with the PM package. The seats are NOT heated. I had called toyota about this months ago and they claim it is a misprint and they are not responsible for misprints. They did not offer any compensation for this. I had ordered the SR5 with this package thinking the seats were heated as did many others.
In my mind, there is no question that Dianne broke the rules of Edmund's. Its there right in front of your eyes if you look at her posts. The complicating factor is that she has been very helpful to many people. It seems everyone is willing to turn a blind eye to the rules of the board because of this, and that is wrong. If you allow Dianne or any other dealer to use these boards for promotion, they will become one big commercial. You will also lose the ability to sift out objective data.
I think it is fine for dealers to participate, and clear up misconceptions, give facts and specs, etc. They should not be allowed to promote the vehicle, or self promote their own dealerships. As I have mentioned earlier, this is unfair to dealers who play by the rules; it is also unfair to the consumer. If you want to have a seperate board for this, fine, but PLEASE Edmund's, keep it out of here.
Incidentally, many of the Edmunds boards have no or very little dealer participation, and they do just fine....
This is what I was told when I stopped by a dealership in Jamaica Queens,NY. Has anyone else had to wait 6-8 weeks for their Seqouia and if so...was it ACTUALLY 6-8 weeks or a little longer?

2. If a SR5 is ordered without overfenders, do the front and rear bumpers match the boby color? (I realize they will in Silver Sky).
