Apparently Warranty Gold did not keep up with their "routine maintenance" and their claim has been DENIED. I've had my bank go off-line for hours for maintenance, but this so-called extended maintenance is ridiculous. Yet, it stays within Warranty Gold's deceptive marketing: Why tell the truth when a lie could bring more unsuspecting customers?
The company is probably plotting strategies to use OUR money they stole to start up their new scam warranty company.
This may be old news...I haven't read the whole thread. You have until mid-March to file a claim although at best you will ge a pro-rated refund. See www.warrantynews.com.
What is going on?!!!! I have been in the dark for months!!! I just found out about National Warranty. I purchased an extended warranty went I bought a used Mercedes December 2002. I was about to bring the car in for service for the first time because of a problem so i figured I would call the national Warranty number to see what I have to do and I get the recorded message about the kayman islands and all this BS! I didn't purchase through WG, but through someone else. Not the dealer, and i paid in full by check! Dam it! I need to get on my horse and read my contract and figure out who to go after and how?
I have gone back and read all these posts. I need to go read my contracts, but from what it appears every one is saying is that the company who sold me the warranty would actually be the company that I contracted with to provide warranty repair coverage and not National Warranty. I called the company that sold me this yesterday when I found out about this. They did not mention any thing about how they will pay any claims. Obviously they realized my ignorance.
I'm not in the boat, but watching from the shoreline, I'm glad I didn't buy a service contract. And I won't. Ever. Mr. White, you've just joined a club you'd rather not have. The company that sold you the contract will likely not help you, they will say your deal is with NWIG. NWIG is claiming bankruptcy. This forum gives you just about all your options.
Remember this situation the next time someone says 'You need an extended warranty!' Keep your money in your pocket and run.
While your standing on the shoreline please throw out a couple of life preservers and some Molson Golden to ease my sunburn ! I'm building an ARK to save us all! LOL
I'll bet good ole boy George W. had his hand in this deal!
I signed up with WG in Feb 2003. I paid an intial deposit of $399 in Feb. on CC. My first payment of $150 was also on CC in Mar. Then in Apr & May I paid $150 each month by check. Then I heard about the whole debacle, and WG gave me a payment holiday for June. When they would not extend to me another payment holiday in July (since this whole thing was not settled), I cancelled.
Yesterday I received a letter from my CC company, Citi Cards, telling me my dispute for the $549 was accepted and the credit for it was now permanent. Add to this the $100 I got from WG in August for 2 referels, (which I made before WG imploded), and for the whole WG fiasco, I am only out $200. And maybe I'll get some of that out of the legal proceedings. All in all, I consider myself lucky, it could have been a lot worse.
Curious......... have you tried filing thru Florida State Attorney General's office against your credit card company itself? I was thinking this route since Discover has to be licensed to do business in N.Y. all though WG is not. The fact that we bought long term ploicies and only recieved a portion of the time frame covered on these policies before WG stopped honoring might carry some weight with AG's offices against the CC companies ? What to you think? Filing the bankruptcy claim I believe will be fruitless since we are so low on the totom pole of creditors.
I am still trying to obtain a permanent *partial chargeback. It seems my complaints for the money paid prior to June and being "covered" for a few months on a FIVE year contract have gone unacknowledged. They don't grasp the concept this is UNfair and NOT what I paid for. I've requested an answer. Received none. And I suppose had I paid my entire contract in Full prior to June, in their eyes, I was technically covered for coverage, however short it lasted - for a couple of months - the remaining 57 months don't matter? These types of contracts seem suspicious to me - companies such as WG can make false statements about it being secure and reliable just months before their trustee goes bankrupt, and CC companies (mine anyhow) doesn't seem to want to get involved in a dispute with them. Would the Attorney Gen force my CC to deal with it?
Don't expect an answer from Discover Card, they also have evaded my pointed questions then have the nerve to ask if there is anything else they can do for me........a long walk off a short pier comes to mind !
Just called that phone number. Customer Service rep sounded like he was on a cell phone in a car? must be the owner. anyway said website has been down for IT reasons and they are no longer taking any new contracts. But contracts sold after June are still valid. Said they are in reorganization, not liquidation?
BAD NEWS. I think they are done. And I don't expect a dime of money back from them. I think they are deceiving us all. I think they have known for months of their demise and have intentionally lied to us all on their website. They will hide behind bankruptcy court and corporate protections. Scum.
I would bet they are all jumping ship right about now. I wish I could find somebody who lived by their company headquarters to drive by and see if anyone still works there. I doubt it. This is the end.
sorry about my email address being private - it must have been set to that accidentally.
anyway, the latest hearing was Feb 24th. Even though I was appointed by the US dept of justice to the official creditors committee and subsequently elected Chairman, I can't give out the web address here due to forum rules. The mods have been kind enough to let me tell you to email me for the Official Committee's website.
Type "Robert, Phelan, Warrantygold" into a popular search engine, and you can find the web site you are looking for. There are only 3 possibilities if you make Warrantygold one word, and 2 of those three will lead to you to correct website.
Hi everyone, I'm trying to fill out the US Bankruptcy Court form (B10) as instructed in WarrantyNews.com. Being very form-phobic, I can't seem to figure out a few of these questions. Is this a secured claim or unsecured claim? what do I put as basis of my claim? And more importantly, should I even bother filling this out? Any advice from fellow victims are much appreciated.
DEFINITELY fill out your claim form - especially if you had to pay repairs out of pocket.
As it stands, if this case DOES NOT get certified as a Class(which Ms. Newman's atty is trying to do), EVERYONE who had a valid policy on 06/06/03 will be considered for reimbursement whether or not you send in a claim form.
I would definitely send it in. If you paid for a repair out of pocket, the only way WG knows this is to send in your claim form.
Claims are Unsecured non-priority. Basis of claim - 'Other - Service Contract'
The current DEADLINE is March 17th to submit your forms.
If you find one of my websites about WG though a search engine, there should be a big statement giving you the address to the new warrantygoldcreditors website.
It was set up by the Official Warranty Gold Warranty Holders' Committee appointed by the USDOJ.
When we switched to the new registration/login system, an unfortunate bug was that all email addresses became private, including us hosts. To alleviate this, bring up your profile, change the email to public if you desire, then you must fully log out using the SIGN OUT button at the top of the page. Log back in manually with your email address, and your email should now be public - you must then reset your AutoLogin if you use it.
Just wanted to thank this forum for all the advice and shared knowledge. Today I received notice that my $894 disputed charge for a useless WG Platinum policy has been designated as permanent by Citibank MC (thank you CitiBank-my favorite bank!). I bought the policy in 2/2003 to be effective after original manufacturer's warranty expired. My original warranty expired Sept. 26, 4 days before I got the "sorry" email from WG. I never had a claim, but I did file a 'dispute' long before WG filed for bankruptcy. Learned a great lesson - either get the Manufacturer's Extended Warranty or take your chances with self-funded repairs. I guess it now sounds logical. Keep positive!
Been advised by Tech that the profile bugs should now be gone, so please check your profiles to see that your settings are correct if you have not already adjusted them.
As I reported earlier, my WG dispute was also made permanent, also by CitiCards. I'll bet now, as long as you can show legitimate documentation to CitiCards of when you bought your policy and that your policy was affected by WG going belly up, they are going to authorize the chargeback.
Also, I laughed with glee, when I went to WG Warranty News website and saw they are still trying to get the courts to intervene against the CC companies that are authorizing chargebacks.
Oh, poor WG, waaaaahhh!!!
I, of course, strongly recommend holding onto the letter making the chargeback permanent. With that letter, even if CitiCards has to rescind the chargeback, I bet they'll eat it vs. biling us back, after notifying us in writing the credit was permanent.
I am STILL in the process of my never-ending dispute. Heck, my dispute has lasted 3 times as long as the actual 'coverage' I received from WG. Do you know HOW these CC companies properly settle these disputes? Previously, mine took WG's statement that my contract was "valid" and, end of dispute, sorry, have a nice day. My current hope is Warranty Gold's admission to "Breaching contracts" as of June 6th 2003 (they refuse to take responsibilty for ANYTHING else, they just SOLD the contracts, and didn't "Administer" them, the joys of legal loopholes)yet continued charging me for a "breached contract" for months. I just know WG will fight my dispute again and I'd like to know HOW to make my CC see the truth that they have pretty much ignored IMO. Do you know WHO gets the final say? I was originally told if both sides Fight, then it goes to arbitration for a decision. Do you know anything about the logistics of a Dispute, as I no longer trust my CC to tell me anything and feel they're making me jump through hoops to prove MY dispute until I give up.
Sorry, I don't know all the answers to your questions. I just sent them copies of my bills showing the charges, a copy of my contract, a copy of letter I wrote to WG detailing the whole NWIG debacle and demanding my refund after cancelling, and a copy of WG's reply letter, in which they plainly state their hands are tied and they can no longer honor claims or pay refunds for cancellations.
Discover Card definetly not persuing this issue, they have just closed the door instead. In fact all the "secure" e-mails I sent them under my account have misteriously been erased from the folder so I have no history of any e-mails/responses. How convienient !
I did just recieve in the mail this weekend from U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Austin, TX the scheuled hearing date info.
Thanks for the feedback. Actually you may have missed it Mike, but back a few posts I posted how I had gotten a good percentage of my lost money back, thanks to my credit card company doing a chargeback and making it permanent. But I do sympathize with all who lost in this fiasco. The really sad part is, through all the BS, that WG spewed out, about how they back their contracts, if that had actually been true and they stepped up to the plate and put NWIG customers into a new Administrator, I think many here would have had a lot more respect for WG.
You may not submit Postings that contain personally identifiable information about other people, such as their phone number, street address or email address, or information about other people that could result in an invasion of their privacy or their harassment.
What you post on other sites is their business, but here, we do not tolerate identification of those who are unaware their name is used in a web-searchable forum.
Back when this happened, in September 2003, I posted a synopsis of my entire ordeal over at another web site where they list all sorts of consumer complaints. Yesterday the salesman who I originally purchased from, and who is now an ex-Warranty Gold employee, posted a reply over there. He was all pissed off, negative, nasty and whiney, because I mentioned his name as my salesman. To him I say, "poor you". I also mentioned the name of WG managers I spoke to, as well. The thing is, he sure didn't mind my mentioning his name when I still thought WG was great and I was making referrals, before I found out about the melt-down of NWIG. You can read my initial straight-forward, telling the facts as they applied in my case, post and his whiney rebuttal by e-mailing me and I will send you the link.
I didn't put anyone's name, address and phone number all over the internet!
I put the salesman's name. Big Deal. He sure didn't mind when he was getting referrals! And the only phone number was his work number, the main WG phone number, and his extension, (where one would reach him if they wanted to buy a WG contract through him, and he gets commi$$ion$).
Don't be so hard on someone trying to help out the ripped off former customers of WG ! Relax, lifes to short! How do you know WG hasn't already sold our names to a data base company ?? Ever think of that ??
By putting his first and last name on the website you might have as well put his phone number and address on there. It does not take a rocket scientist to find the rest. If I had your first and last name and the state you live in I can find your phone number and address. There is a reason edmunds doesn't allow you to put names and other info on this sight. What if some crazy lunatic who just lost his job because he didn't have a car to get to work because it was broken down because his warranty was no longer valid gets some crazy idea to take it out on someone from WG because his life has been ruined... you get the story. You have made this personal. Keep it personal between yourself and Warranty Gold, not the sales guy who was doing his job to support himself or his family if he has one.
First of all, I didn't make it personal, the sales guys did. If you bother to read my post over at that other site, you'd see I just recounted the entire chain of events. Including who I bought the plan from, who I spoke with at WG, what I was told, and the steps I took to resolve it. His initial response was where he made it personal.
And you still did not address the fact that putting his name was fine, and even Edmunds didn't remove it, back when I made the referrals, or even the guy whose post I read where I first found out this salesmans name, before I bought my policy. You can't say "oh it's alright to post a name if you have something positive to say about someone, but if it's any kind of complaint, then it's not OK".
And, I never really said I had a 'problem' with this salesman. Other than my post over at the other website mentions who I bought from, but then he had to make it personal as if I specifically charged that he knew the policy was no good and lied to me to get me to buy it, (something I never claimed or stated).
It isn't fair to defame someone because of who they work for. I am not saying you intentionally tried to defame him but simply by posting his name on a website you did just that. I am not here to criticize you but in hope to simply spare the misfortune of those who were trying support a family perhaps and to avoid the public criticism of those who are employed for companies that have financial problems. Dont speak to loudly as you one day might find yourself in a situation that isn't fair to you or others. Again no disrespect but think it out next time.
You kinda crossed the line by posting his full name Quigonjohn. Granted IMHO he's a sleaze ball salesman and he also crossed the line with his follow up post, but he was just doing his job as a salesman for WG. Remember, we only lost upwards of a couple grand (and yes that does hurt), but he lost his job.
Oh, but it was fine to post his name when he was getting referrals?
And if you say 'no' to that as well, keep in mind, I never saw anyone here complaining about his name being posted back when I did post it after I bought the policy and thought WG was great. Nor did I see anyone complaining about the other poster who posted his name, that I used as my own referral when I purchased from WG.

I am in the middle of this dispute as well and should have known when their reinsurance was based in the Cayman Islands!! I know this has been difficult, i got screwed on 2 policies and seemed to hit 'wall after wall'. I finally found someone who helped, another compnay who forwarded me in the right direction, discounted my policy, and made it affordable to me. WarrantyWarehouse seemed to be the only people who carde, but when choosing another compnay go with your gut feeling and make the best choice for yourself, not becasue of this or anyother forum. THere are alot of good compnaoes out there, I founf mine, goodluck with finding yours.

Warrantynews.com says the following:
What is the status of Warranty Gold?
Warranty Gold is open and operating and selling extended warranty contracts.
This is not true: I called today and the rep said they are no longer taking new contracts. Again, their website is misleading.
