I have a '01 LE which I now have about 850mi on. The last few days I've noticed the clicking on my drivers side window. It only happens immediately after it goes up. The only other problem I've had is with my aftermarket drawtite class III hitch. The hitch is only about a 1/4 inch from the exhaust. So everytime I hit a bump the exhaust clunks against the hitch frame. I remedied the problem by wedging a rubber door guard on the hitch frame inbetween it and the exhaust. So far it has worked. The Path tows my 3500lb boat with ease, I hardly notice it's back there. Gas milage sucks but it basically does for all SUV so it's really a non issue for me. Overall build quality/ refinement seems excellent. Especially when I compare it to my wifes 01 Impala (company car, no way would my $$ purchase that piece of @#$%). To me the Impala is more truck like than the pathfinder when comparing the drivetrains. I can't get over how smooth the Nissan v6 is.

The mirrors are on the same circuit as the rear window.

    Hi All,

I have noticed the exact same thing mentioned above with respect to the window clicking noise on the driver's side. Mine only seems to do this when it is really hot outside. I mentioned it to the dealer and he said it might be just an adjustment. Wasn't hot that day so I couldn't duplicate it for him. It seems to me that the window is not correctly aligned. One thing to consider. The dealer told me to address this problem with them before 12,000 miles as Nissan will not pay for any "adjustments" after 12K. Would like to hear some more feedback regarding this.

Wow.. That's much better deal than mine. I paid mine with same option with yours at $31000 two weeks ago. You should definetly take that deal before they are out of stock. According to my dealer, after Nissan had put $1500 rebate and special finance, PF goes out pretty quickly. Although they purchased more 2001 models on August inventory, they didn't have color and exact spec I wanted. That's why I had to get VCP although I didn't need one.
    Good luck!!!

My passenger side window is doing this also (as mentioned above)...I'm taking it in Friday to have it checked. I'll report back with any information I get from the dealer/service tech.

I have 10,700 miles on my PF..so if that 12,000 rule mentioned above this post is true...guess I better get it done asap.

Did you remind him of the warranty? Unless it is specifically written I don't think they can stop repair or adjusting your Pathy until the warranty expires. Try another dealer.
  • smithmdsmithmd Member Posts: 167
I took my Pathfinder with some similar "adjustment issues" to the dealer with about 30,000 on the clock. I got charged out the you-know-what for minor adjustments because they aren't covered after 12,000 miles. You get charged the regular body shop hourly rate ($75/hr?). I told them that the next time, I would make sure that the window fell out before I brought it in...not that it did any good to say that, but I felt better.

How can the dealer not fix a window that is not properly working? If it's "clicking", and wasn't doing it the day you bought it, then it isn't working properly. Therefore, under the 3yr/36K warranty it should be covered as needing repairs, not adjustments. If the dealer is saying that parts and labor isn't included that's total crap.

I've never owned a brand of car that within the 3yr/36K or 5yr/60K warranty didn't cover any type of malfunction, problem or issue other than routine maintenance. Having a window that clicks isn't routine or maintenance. Eventually your clicking window will 1.) burn out the motor, 2.) cause an electrical problem. If Nissan actually misrepresents it's policies to save a buck or two and screws their customers with small issues like window clicks, then i don't think i'll be a return customer.

Unless Nissan defines minor adjustments to include switch and electrical problems i can't see it not be covered under warranty. I'd call NMAC and ask them to define "rountine maintenance" and "adjustments". If you find anything out could you post it on this site.

    Sorry so long,

I just wanted to drop a message in regards to Nissan sales, maintenance, and service. So far i've had nothing but troubles with the dealership and service department i got my Pathfinder at.

The Pathfinder had a damaged/scratched mirror when i bought it and the dealer said they would replace. Well i've had my Path in there 3 times now to have it replaced, and still don't have a new mirror. They've ordered the wrong mirror 3 times (apparently Nissan has the wrong part numbers listed in the parts book) and finally after getting the correct mirror painted they lost it somewhere between the body shop and the service dept. Now it's not that i don't understand the parts numbers causing an issue, but the service dept continunally tells me they have the right part and to leave my Pathfinder for the day to be fixed. Well after the 3rd time of being without my new Path for the day getting it back with the same scratched mirror, you can understand my frustration.

Also since i bought my truck, they've fired the saleman that sold it to me and the service manager in charge of fixing my Pathfinder has resigned. Kinda makes you wonder what kinda place it is. They also screwed me out of the $1500 dealer cash and financing by lying to me when i asked whether any incentives were coming up. They said no there aren't any even though it was starting on August 1st (i bought mine on July 31st).

Now don't get me wrong, i love my Pathfinder LE and think it's a great vehicle, but you really have to wonder about the dealerships and service these days.

    Just my $.02,

hi guys, i just bought a 2000 PF SE a few weeks ago and have been lurking here ever since. the only question i have so far concerns the stereo... is there a point where the volume will not go any louder, even when you keep turning the knob? if so, what, if anything, can be done about it? i find this very annoying considering that i ride with my windows down a lot and also like loud music. and i would ditto whomever said earlier that the stereo does not impress me in general, despite the fact that it's bose. i had a '97 blazer prior to this that was a piece of crap, but the stereo was far superior to this one. anyway, thanks in advance for any input...

    S66,

    I guess I mis-wrote.

My windows were not having a switch problem; they were making a "cracking" noise after I would roll them up similar to that of the "cracking" noise my wife's Accord made a few months before the driver's-side window wouldn't stay all the way up any more (that one cost $300 parts & labor).

I asked them to fix it, specifically stating that I thought it was under warranty. They said that the window needed a "track adjustment" or something and proceeded to charge me for 1/2 hour of labor, even though "it actually took the technician 45 minutes--so I'm cutting you a deal." Thanks for the $37.50 window adjustment "deal".

On a positive note, that was a couple of months ago and the window hasn't started making the noise again, yet.

I only use the dealer for 15,000-mile interval services and I keep the receipts from the rest of the oil changes. In my past dealings with Nissan service, this was good enough proof to keep from voiding the warranty. Otherwise, I hate working with Nissan service...with the exception of 2 dealerships in Texas: Robbins Nissan in Houston and Courtesy Nissan in Dallas. I still prefer my local mechanic.

For those of you looking at rack stuff, I got an email from sportsrack.com saying all their Yakima racks/accessories are on sale at 20% off for the next two weeks. Same thing for Thule the two weeks after that. I ordered from them last year and it went great. All was in stock and much better prices than locally.

I desperately need some side window deflectors to keep the rain out with a partially cracked window. Are the ones sold by Nissan the tape-on kind? I'd rather use the clip-on kind such as the one's made by McNeil. However, I don't see how these clip-on kind can fit in the window slot with such close tolerances. Am debating between the ones sold by Nissan and the McNeils. Any info is greatly appreciated

The knob on the radio will turn until the volume is at full and it will keep turning. There is no stop on the rotation of the knob. It has to do with the volume controls on the wheel. Several have mention the stereo is not very good. Bose does not build car radios!! The
system is build by Clarion. Some one back several messages (100-200) installed very nice speakers on the pillar and in the doors. Even installed a amp and sub- woofer. He said it work very well.

Howdy, ya'll. 'Have read many reviews and have enjoyed your very helpful messages, but have found little mention of Nissan's recommendation for premium fuel in the 2001 PF. Is this only a Canadian issue or is the additional cost of fuel over the life of this vehicle not a concern to anyone but me? (Of course, our gas is higher, but it adds up in anyone's dollar.) My dealer says it's not a problem (naturally), and that they burn regular all the time; but I have to wonder how much performance and mileage would be sacrificed by burning regular. I'm considering buying a Tribute and lots of beer with the extra money! Am I over-reacting? How do YOU like the experience so far?
  • tbobbytbobby Member Posts: 9
Am very glad to hear the stereo isn't made by Bose, but it still doesn't sound very good. I assumed those tweeters in the door pillars were Bose's typical antiquated paper cone design. Are they actually dome tweeters? Bose is the only manufacturer I know of that still uses cone tweeters. They've pulled a marketing hat trick by targeting older people who know nothing about audio electronics (ie Southernliving and Gourmet Magazine subscribers), putting pretty ads in magazines and self-proclaiming their products are superior...hogwash

    Good Morning,

I haven't been here in a while and it's good to see that the board is still going strong. I just hit the 15,000 mile mark and I'm taking my PF (2001 SE) in for it's scheduled maintenance. No problems yet except that the driver side window rises very slowly. Going to have the service people look at it and It by tootin better be covered. Other than that, I love it. Unfortunately so does my fiancee, so I don't get to drive it as much as I'd like. Please post any updates on trying to get those windows fixed....

    Cheers.

In respond to tbobby about the windows side deflectors. I have the Mcneil deflectors and they are great. super easy to install (less than 5 minutes) and they don't add a single decibel to wind noise if any at all; I guess in part due to the slim flange they machined it off around the edges of the deflectors. Hope this info helps.

I've noticed hot air comming from the dash vents on trips where the '01 Path SE was still warm. It's especially noticable on mild days (ie San Diego 65F to 75F) since the interior temperature is already comfortable. Running the A/C just enough to cool the vents on restarts compensates, but leads to issue #2. Seems like engine heat is soaking back into the vent syst.

Also - I've noticed significant humidity comming from the vents after the A/C is turned off and the vent is still on. I've tried warming the air temp to ambient prior to A/C shutoff and this helps a bit. Never had these issues with my Accord.

Anyone else notice this? How about those with climate control? Is this system broken of just poorly designed?

With the $1500 cash back incentive and financing offers, how does this affect the resale value of older (re: bought in 2000) 2001 PFs? How much of a hit are we owners looking at?
  • skoobieskoobie Member Posts: 4
"it has to do with the volume controls on the wheel"???? i don't have any radio controls on my steering wheel, if that's to what you are referring. and just to clarify, when i made comments about the "bose stereo" in my previous post, i meant "stereo system"-- radio, speakers, whatever it is that causes my music not to play loud!!!

so, if someone said the stereo sounds bad at high volumes, would that mean my best bet is to get some speakers? and maybe an amp since my current stereo seems to have a pre-determined cutoff level?
  • highuphighup Member Posts: 31
Ahh the Bose system...Components by Clarion and equalization by Bose. This system is rated at 180 watts which would be approximately 30 watts per speaker. This 30 watts per speaker is optimistic at best as most ratings are measured at 10% distortion. So when you crank on the knob (volume) to attract some honey and the juice runs out, it's because you've reached the point where the audio limited kicks in to prevent distortion at the speakers. The only solution I can think of is to go the aftermarket route which would be $$$.

For those that just want to improve the sound of their Bose system without major surgery a good start would be to upgrade the puny tweeters in the A pillars. Each is 4 ohms with a 3.3uf cap which results in a high pass crossover point of approximately 12khz. (This is the frequency to warn away bats and torment the neighborhood dogs.) This means that most of the musical information is coming from the door speakers and the tweeters' only function is add a little zzzzt to bring the soundstage up a bit. I ran test tones through these tweets and they just flat out sounded terrible.

I replaced the tweeters with leftover MB Quart tweeters from a previous install. They are rated at 50 watts at 7 ohms. I added a 10uf cap which results in a highpass crossover point of about 2.3khz. This then brings the upper midrange frequencies higher up in the soundstage area and because these tweeters are "better" than stock, the music becomes more clearer and sharper.

I have no problem with the door speakers so I left them alone.

I added a 400 watt amp and a 12 inch subwoofer back in the hatch to dry my hair.

highup; Where did you install and get the power to run this amp. Sounds like fun!

    Hey All,

I have read about the last 100 posts and have solidified my views on buying an '01 SE PF. The buy on this is a tad steep, but the dealer is offering a lease option and I need an opinion...

Based on a sale price at invoice of $26788
    $444 at signing..(1st month,fees,title)

    $379/mo @ 39 months
    $14450 buyout

    that is a .00139 money factor(3.34%)

Also was wondering like others if the APR might drop to 0.9%/60 months after Labor Day.
Might be able to swing that 1

    thx

Forgive my different perspective, but I cannot understand why anyone would lease a car unless their company was paying for it. There are simply too many opportunities for the dealer to screw the leasee.

5 weeks ago I BOUGHT an American 01 PF SE with mats, micro, cargo net (what a joke) with 17 miles on it for $25,560 plus TTL.

Please enlighten my ignorant mind on the benefits of leasing.

Also, you may want to check out the WeatherTechs. I have them for the front and rear doors and they install easy and have been no problem at all.

Affordability is really the primary benefit. Leases appeal to people who can'tafford a high-enough down payment to get their monthly low enough. (Many lease buyers don't mind having a lower car payment, because they know they'll be driving a brand new car every 3 years, and often, they don't purchase based on sale price, but how much per month they can afford.)

My parents like to drive new cars. They budget the monthly car payment as a "utility bill" and never look forward to the day when they "won't have a car payment." So they lease based on what they can afford, and what their needs are at the time of trade-in.

I bet your monthly payments are higher than that lease, I'd guess your payments are over $400 on a 5-year loan, and I doubt you got away with putting only $444 down.

A smart way to work any car-buying deal is to first negotiate the purchase price. Never let the sales guys get you to discuss the "monthly" payment before you work out the purchase price. That's how they sucker you into buying something you don't need. Once you've nailed the purchase price, then talk about the financing or lease. Walk away if you don't get what you're looking for. Another dealer will be more than happy to get your business.

    Hello,
Am on the verge of buying a 2001 4x4 LE, fully loaded except nav and entertainment systems. Dealers seem willing to deal. Best offer so far is 31500 then after rebate of 1500 my price is 30000, invoice is 31600 according to Edmunds or 32000 according to the dealer. Anybody else shopping or just bought who can tell me if this is a good price in the current market. I saw one person got one for $1000 under invoice, but need more specifics, sometimes the dealer will do this but keep the rebate to himself.
Dealers of course are emphasizing purchase today, last day of the month. As this is my first auto purchase, does anyone have any input as to whether rebates will get even better after Sept 4th when the current promo ends. I saw someone post the possibility of 0.9% APR for 60 months. The dealer I am working with has a lot of these to move!
    Thanks for any help/advice.

    Hey guys,
just wanted to let you know that in the October issue of Motor Trend there is a advertisement for the 2002 Pathfinder and it looks the same as the 2001 except for new wheels, a new steering wheel (the one from the 2002 Altima) and I think a new navigation system.

    Montly payment is lower,
    Always drive a new vehicle,
    Most always under warranty.
Can be sold just bought from the lease company for a payoff value just like any loan.
    (Just a few positives.)

    Never owning a vehicle,
    over the mileage penalty,
    always having a payment.
    (Just a few negatives.)
  • pat5000pat5000 Member Posts: 13
You might want to put the pay-off statement in the CON category. Unless your talking about a MB, Lexus, or BMW and on these cars it usually takes about 2 or 3 years to "break even" when trying to sale the car when leasing.
  • smibradsmibrad Member Posts: 34
Ok, here is my two cents. If you can not afford to put enough money down to keep your monthly payments low enough for your financial situation, then you should not be buying a new vehicle. You should buy a less costly car or buy a used car that you can afford so that you can invest your money. It takes money to make money and get ahead. Using leasing as a method to purchase a car that you can afford just doesn't make financial sense to me.
  • winnyvwinnyv Member Posts: 30
To add to your statement, buy or leasing a car is a bad financial decision. Depreciation will get you either way.

I have a 99.5 Pathfinder LE with the Bose stereo system, and I have had problems w/ the CD player since pretty much day one. Whenever it is hot outside, or if the CD player has been in use for a while (more than 30 minutes), the CD player starts skipping horribly to the point that it is unusable. I thought it might be a bad CD, but the same thing happens even when brand new discs are used. Has anyone else experienced similar problems?

Trying to decide between SE and LE 4WD's. Really like the looks and manual transmission option of SE, but will be moving back to Seattle (from Texas) next summer, and "Allmode" 4WD sounds tempting (but can't get it in US-version SE). My questions are mostly for Pacific Northwest Pathfinder owners:

    1) How does this vehicle do in the rain when in 2WD mode? I'm thinking of wet, looping, freeway onramps. Does the back end want to come up to see what the front end is doing? (Obviously I'm thinking of just the usual drizzle, not a hydroplane situation.) Or do you just keep it in 4Hi between November and May? Any tire recommendations?

    2) My wife is pushing for leather (and thus LE). I never liked leather in the NW - felt clammy in the morning, didn't dry as quickly, etc. Any opinions?

Thanks in advance. I've read every message on here (the most recent 3500 anyway) and this is a great board.

I just bought a 2001 LE and think it may have some problems. If I drive around in All mode drive for a while, and then turn it to 2WD while not moving at idle, it shakes the entire car..Is this normal? Also, when coming to a stop at around 10 MPH, I hear a mildly loud thunking sound coming from the front of the vehicle. This happens in 2WD or all wheel drive. Can anybody help me out here? I'm really worried about my $31,000 vehicle having problems at 385 miles.

Settle driving during the winter is Always wet! Should not use 4HI on dry or wet pavement. It locks the transfer case and the tires must be on a service that will allow the tires to slip.(snow,ice,sand,ect.) AWD (LE) only transfers torque to the front axle when the rear axle speed sensors detect slipage. 2WD works fine in the rain. Tires: whatever comes with the vehicle? Leather seats: Hate leather...looks like a hundred year old cow after 6 months but the heated seat feel good in the winter.(up to 113 deg f.) Welcome back to the NW! Tacoma Nissan is a good place to purchase up here.

My 2001 has the 3.5 engine and is now 1 year old. Over the last 4-5 months, the "check engine soon" light has come on, right after passing another car on a 2 lane road. The reason I mention 2 lane road is that the truck downshifts as I stomp on it to get around the other car. When I took it in the first time, they replaced an oxegyn sensor and the light went off. However, this has happened 2 more times, and each time Nissan tells me that it's an oxegyn sensor. Has anyone else had this problem? A friend who works at Infiniti tells me that there was a service bulletin for this, but it was for 2000 vehicles, not 2001.

    Hi all,

I've been lurking here for a while, and I am ready to buy a Pathfinder LE. I need some help.

1)I have read posts on this board about buying in Canada, but I can't find detailed info in one place except for the FAQ. Does anyone have some type of step by step guide that would tell me more than the faq? If not, I'd be happy to take advice from everyone and put something together.

    2) Can anyone recommend a Nissan dealer in Quebec, close to Burlington, VT?

Thanks in advance for your help....

I guess I'm still the central repository for the info on going to Canada. I know we're well over 50 who have done it since I did. I'll send you an email with the info and a good contact. Toronto is better than Montreal for a couple reasons. Prices are a little better, but most importantly Quebec will not refund the provincial tax to you like Ontario will. Toronto is not too much further and it's all on interstate.

I guess it's time I post another big summary here, but for those who have not seen this before take a look at post 2610 for some general info. Basically you can save a bundle by taking a short trip to Canada to get your Pathfinder. Prices are the best yet lately. Here is what I've heard of recent: LE with leather for $26,500; SE auto with sunroof for $24,000; Infiniti QX4 loaded for $28,900. Also you get some more goodies with the Canadian versions (like the All-mode 4WD system on the SE that you can't get in the US). All these are four wheel drive - no 2WD avail in Canada.

I have a lot of info written. Anyone can just email me and I'll send it off or answer questions. I'm kinda having fun helping others with this.

Please help! I am trying to negotiate PF prices and I have no idea whether there are any incentives being offered for September. Did I miss the boat in August? Is it possible that they aren't offering ANY incentives at all anymore?

The dealers won't tell me anything over the phone, and Edmunds.com hasn't updated its rebates & incentives listing yet. Help me, please!

On the 2001 LE with leather power seats...

One salesman said that unlocking your door with a specific keyless remote could adjust the seats to a preset or your last seating position. Is there any correlation between the keys and auto-adjusting the seat position?

Do the preset memory buttons on the door also adjust the side mirrors?

Anybody have any problems with the power seats? the seats sliding back to let you out and sliding forward when you start it up? Opinions.

I ran an 8 gauge cable from the battery (fused of course) into the passenger-side fenderwell and then poked a hole in the antenna cable gromment and ran it into the kickpanel area. The inner fender liner had to be partially removed to do this. Popped both front and rear door sills and laid the cable in and snaked it back to the left rear corner. Hope this helps.

Have a 2001 LE with all options except NAV and Entertainment System (240 HP is enough entertainment). The PF has been awesome with no problems to date (4,500 miles).

I noticed that the AT shift lever feels sloppy and not locked into the current gear selection. "D", "2", and "1" all have slop when in gear and the release button is not pushed.

    Is this normal?

Summerskye1 - You and I appear to be in the same boat. I have been told by at least two Nissan/Infiniti dealers that Nissan/Infiniti will continue the 3.9% financing through September. As far as the $1,500 cash back goes, Nissan will still offer the $1,500 cash back (although you'll probably end up splitting some of that with the dealer), and Infiniti is offering $1,000 loyalty cash to just about anyone who walks in the door. Right now I'm down to a 4x4 QX4 with premium, sport, and sunroof (with rear wind deflector, but no tow - tow is now added on at the dealer), for $1000 below invoice (that's invoice less the $1,000 cash back), with 3.9% for 60 mos. Just waiting till the end of September to put some more cash aside, or to see if the 3.9% will run through October. Happy hunting!!

You're wonderful for writing back! The 2 dealers I've spoken to won't give me straight answers on the rebates and financing incentives available right now, but hint that they can 'make me a good deal if I can come in TODAY' (I've been doing my inquiries by phone today). Since I can't get straight answers by phone, I suppose I'll visit some dealers in person this week. I'll be sure to post any deal I'm able to make just in case it helps anyone else!
