    I have a 2001 LE 4x4, 18k miles.

On my vehicle, there is no correlation between the keys and the seat position, nor does the seat position adjust my side mirrors.

I am having a problem with the power seats--it always slides back to let me out, but it only slides forward back into position (when I get back in the car) about 1/2 the time. I just press my preset button "1" to return the seat forward. I've had the problem since the car was new, but the frequency has increased so much that I'm finally taking it in. There is a service bulletin out regarding this issue, and my PF will be at the dealer tomorrow.

To me, this has been a minor inconvenience compared to problems I have experienced with other cars I've owned. It's probably easily remedied and I'm still 100% confident in my PF.

I have an 01 LE and have noticed the speedo reads a higher speed than I'm actually going. I've confirmed this with a hand held gps and comparing mile markers with the odometer. I just got back from a trip to my in-laws that is 321 miles, but the odometer on my Pathfinder showed about 333 miles. While on the trip, I had the cruise set at 70 according to the speedo, but my gps showed between 67 - 68. I know this isn't really a big deal, but this is a leased vehicle. I figure if the my odometer reads over by 3.5% that could cost me a few hundred $$ during the duration of the lease. I guess I'll have to go to the dealership. Other than that, great vehicle.

I've had the inconsistent seat return problem since day one(3/01)on my LE. I know that a number of others on this board also have this problem. Please let us know how you make out at the dealer. If you could mention the specific TSB, that would be great...

    Many thanks, Joe

Jon, it appears you happen to be the expert on the PF in Canada. I prefer the SE model but there are a few options in the LE that I cannot get in the SE here in the US. 2 options in particular are the all-mode 4WD and the automatic climate control. You already answered the question on the 4WD. Do you know if they offer the climate control in the SE model in Canada? Lastly, I assume the prices you stated in your message were US dollars. If your price on the QX4 is right, I might look into that instead of the PF. Thanks.

This weekend my CD changer started making a strange grinding sound and then displayed "ERR2" in the readout. I called up my local Nissan service department and told them what happened. They informed me that they would more than likely order a new unit and replace my faulty one. I'm scheduled for service tommorow morning. I have one question for the board. How long does it take to have CDs returned?
  • bgritzbgritz Member Posts: 139
    dieselone,

I have noticed this in EVERY automobile I have been in. It almost always seems to be about 2 mph off at hwy speeds. Our '01 SE is the same. Indicated road speed will be 75, and my GPS will say 73.9 ish.
I'n generally not a conspiracy guy, but:

hmmm I wonder if it is an industry conspiracy for them to save $$$ on warranty work, leases, etc.??
  • xplorx4xplorx4 Member Posts: 621
Your odometer reads too fast because the tires on the truck are 3.5% too small. You could replace the tires with larger ones (265/75R16, for example) to offset this (or even make the speed read SLOWER than actual). On the other hand, by lease end, assuming you have a 15K mile/year limit, 3.5% of 45,000 miles is only 1575. Not terribly significant over a 3-year period.

Don't thing the serv. engine light is a recurring issue. I had it, but it was because I didn't tighten the gas cap enough, and after 3 fill ups, it went out. Now at 16k miles with out a sign of the light.
My power memory seat also performs as Lisa's aka "luvboxers". I didn't realize a TSB was out, I may have it checked, but is definitely a minor issue.
Took my CD's 6 wks to come in after my Err2 message. Keep calling the dealership. Mine were in at least a week before I called them and they were located in the parts dept. I think some of the service guys may have a racquet going on collecting the returns for personal use.

OK, I'm Canadian, and have the Canadian brochure in hand. The automatic climate control is only available in the LE. The All-Mode automatic is available with the "SE Automatic Transmission Package". There are no options with the LE (we don't get the nav. system - probably because it doesn't work in Canada - no software maps). We also don't get the video stuff. If you want the rear tire carrier, you have to get an SE (yup, an option). When I was checking out prices last year (I bought an LE), the Infinity was $8000 more Canadian. I paid $44,300, as I recall, which is around $28,350 US. The only difference between the LE and the Infinity was the body side moulding, 17" three spoke wheels, real wood on dash and console, and HID headlamps (of course the grill and badges are also different). Leather looked the same to me, as did everything else, including the audio system. I think the headlamps are HID only on low beam.
Any further questions, just ask. I have the brochure here at work just to answer such questions.

I was worried about the Rebate & Financing deal ending and the inventories in my local area were getting pretty slim so here is what I got.

    2001 LE 4x4

MSRP $35,013 everything but Nav. & Ent. System and the limited slip.

    Invoice $31,700 (agrees with Edmunds)
    Price $31,495
    less -$1,500 rebate
net $29,995 (or $1,705 under actual invoice after the rebate)

There was a $72.50 Document fee and another $20.00 in state fees along with Tax & Lisc.

In addition I got the 3.9% 60 month financing. I closed on the last day of the month and that seemed to help. Thanks to all on this board for such good information. Probably not the best deal possible but one I can certainly live with.

    module,
pathstar got it right on above. SE gets the AWD (unlike in the US), but auto climate still only on the LE (like in the US). Just for reference, here is a list of differences on the Pathfinder:

    - All are 4WD.
    - The All-Mode auto 4WD system comes standard on the automatic trans models (not avail on the SE in the US).
    - Limited slip differential standard.
    - Floor mats standard.
    - Block heater standard.
    - Cargo net standard.
    - Daytime running lights standard.
    - Power antenna rather than fixed mast.
    - Slightly nicer roofrack mounts (better security).
    - Windshield washer fluid low warning light on dash.
    - Speedometer in km and miles, odometer in km (can be changed).
    - For SE model, sunroof pkg is standard; leather and auto trans are only options. (tire carrier too, but it's really rare).
    - For LE model, leather is standard; no options available

    Also on the QX4:
    - All come standard with what we in the US call Premium package, Sport package, and the sunroof - there are no options.

Yes, those were US dollars. And they did include the 2.5% duty you pay at the border. Incredible, isn't it?

I had the same error (others have had this same problem also). Nissan replaced my changer with a new one and said I might get the CD's back..or I might not. I only had 3-4 cd's in it at the time, but to this day (4-5 months later) I still have not gotten the cd's back.

    Good Luck

Spookyotto, it's probably your Oxygen sensors. The truck has 4 of them (go figure) and I have replaced 2 and will have the 3rd replaced Thursday. There was a TSB for MY2000 trucks; I have no idea why they can't fix it, but it's not the gas cap.

does anybody know if nissan would still give the cash rebate and low apr after 9/4? the saleman said he didn't know. how much is a reasonable price for 4x4 se with sunroof and leather package? the sticker price is 34k something.

My experience with on-highway trucks (18 wheelers) might help us here. The engine ECM (elec. control module) on truck engines has a programmable parameter called 'Vehicle Speed Calibration'. This is a param that has units of PPM (pulses per mile - from the speed sensor) - the service tech can calculate the PPM for a certain truck and then program that into the ECM. The calculation is based on tire size and gear ratio.
I don't know if the Nissan engine ECM has this parameter, but if it did, then the service tech should be able to calculate the new value and program it in...

I found the service bulletin for the power seat problem on www.nhtsa.gov. Go to service bulletins, choose model year then Nissan (don't choose Nissan Truck).

I printed the service bulletin out and took it to the dealer. Of course he poo-poo'd it saying "I'll have to check and see if this even applies to your car," like I'm a nimrod or something. Even if that service bulletin doesn't apply (which it does) it is STILL the problem I am having. God I hate car dealers.....

I'll post what they said/did about the seats. They're also checking another issue for which there is a service bulletin--the 1st - 2nd gear transmission flare.

--While typing this the dealer called and will not fix either issue because they are "unable to verify" the problem. They are telling me that because they can't recreate the situation they won't fix it. What horsexxxx. Then he tells me that info off the internet is not reliable...the info from the National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration is not reliable!! Like I said...I HATE car dealers. Guess I'll have to call Nissan.

Service departments at dealerships can be a pain in the a**. Did you ask to speak to the GM of the dealership? In my experience with service departments is, I don't deal with the service adivsor's or take their word as to their opinions and POLITELY ask for the service manager, but in most cases, I've had to go directly to the GM and that usually gets things resolved to your satisfaction.

    Pathstar/lofquist,
You guys are fast and awesome! Thanks for the info and quick response. lofquist, you mentioned in one of your posted messages that you had additional information on purchasing in Canada. I have already filed away the information you posted in previous messages. If you could send me that additional information at bertlim@execpc.com, I would appreciate it. I am strongly considering it.

I have a few more questions. You mentioned that the odometer can be converted from Km to miles. Who does that work? The dealer in Canada before I pick up my vehicle or a dealer here in the US after I purchase it? Also, can the speedometer be changed to show the miles more prominently than the Km as in all standard US cars or will I have to live with the speedometer the other way around?

Sounds like Toronto is the best place to look. Since I have relatives and one of my best friends lives in Toronto, I hope to make a trip of it. How did you find a reputable dealer? I can always contact my friend but I would like to make sure I cover all my bases first.

    Thanks again.

It looks to me as though the rebate in Canada (which had been $2000 CAN) is no longer available, but I'm not sure. I'm guessing this to be true because Cars4u.com (Ontario auto sales website) has removed the rebate option on the PF on its site this month. Has anyone spoken to any Canadian dealers about this?

    Thanks!!
  • lofquistlofquist Member Posts: 281
    Bert,
The whole set of info is on it's way to your email.

To answer the other questions…. The odo and speedo can both be changed by a local speedometer shop when you get home. Most people don't seem to do it (I haven't), but I've heard back from a few people who have. Figure in the $300 range. Seattle seems to have a whole flock of places that do km to mile conversions and you can mail the cluster to them also.

Toronto and Vancouver are the favorite places to buy. By lots of calls and feedback we've found a dealer in each town where you can work directly with the manager over the phone and get really good prices, service, and someone who understands details of selling to US residents. I know of only three of 40+ people who've found a better deal in either city (but it might be worth checking). I'll send you off a name too. Ottawa, Winnipeg, and Calgary are other options.

And I just made a call - the Canadian rebates are still on. CAD$2000 on Path, CAD$1500 on QX4.

    Hi Jon,

i am also considering purchasing a pathfinder LE in canada. i have shopped around locally but the best price i can come up with is about 30,000 fully loaded except Nav, ent. I have put down 1000 deposit in a local dealer. don't know if i could get it back. but if it is really going to save a couple of thousand dollars by buying in canada, i am really into it. anyhow, could you send me some information on this, cuz it seems like you have really become an expert in this. Also, do any of you guys think that i could get the deposit back??? Thanks.

Finally I have proof that I'm not crazy (still debatable). I have also measured an error on my LEASED PF that is driving me bananas. Measuring with multiple GPS units, I have noticed a 3-4 mph difference when traveling 70 on the highway. Then the other day there happened to be one of those "police speed radar signs" near my house, I thought it was a perfect chance to get another opinion. Going 40 it showed 43, and going 60 it showed 64. I know its not that much of a difference, but I can't help but feel I'm getting robbed. I wish there was a independent facility that would test this, similar to how they test taxi meters. Oh well, just venting...

Hi all. Been reading for a long time with nothing to report...til I ran over a nail and planted it in a sidewall. thought I'd give this "head's up" on the tires:

Had trouble finding a replacement and when I did (at Mavis Tires in LI, NY) they had a different tread pattern. They ordered a second one but it was the same. He said they were all like this now. The space between the treads is wider...looks like it'd be a better rain tire but maybe shorter life.

The manager told me that the tread design was changed due to complaints that (when at half its life) the original Grand Treks got slippery inthe rain.

I have no trouble in the rain (I only have about 7500 miles now, though). Does anyone know anything about this? I could have used the spare and swapped it on the good rim (the spare is a cheap, stamped steel rim) but I just put the new tire on the right rear...I don't think it will matter...anyone disagree?

    This is a 2001 LE.

Good to see this forum is going strong. I'll be following the general advice on the service...I do my own oil changes/lube and I'll bring it to Nissan at 15,000.

    Tom

    plasmid1,
Info being sent. That does sound like a good price on an LE. I'd think you'd do just over $3500 better in Toronto. As far as deposit, look at the contract. Or just ask for it back. I've heard of lots of people getting deposits refunded.
    -Jon
    (gotta get back to work)
  • pathstarpathstar Member Posts: 201
Put the new tire on the spare rim, and the spare on the truck if it's the same as the other tires (I haven't looked at my spare yet - also a 2001 LE). In just about every case, vehicles I have purchased from Japan come with tires you can't buy here (you can get the same name, etc., but they are different). When they do eventually wear out (I'm expecting 100,000 km - 62,500 mi.) I'm thinking Michelin. I've had very good luck with their tires. BTW, the last vehicle I had (Toyota 4Runner) had Grand Treks on it too, and they were also very good, just very expensive ($250 each from the Toyota dealer).

    Hi Jon,

Thanks a lot. I still haven't received ur info just yet, but i am looking forward to reading it. again, i really appreciate it.
  • pathstarpathstar Member Posts: 201
You are absolutely correct, the speedos in cars do read high (odometers are supposed to be accurate, however). This is intentional, as I understand it, and was mandated the the Govt. so we have a buffer re speeding. As for the odometer, +or- 5% is pretty good. If you want better accuracy, I hope you are ready to pay for it - very accurate speedos cost upwards of $200 (just for the speedo). GPS receivers (at least my Garmin GPS III+) is speced. at +or- 0.1 knot - about 0.2 mph or 0.3 km/hr. I doubt any vehicle can approach or at least maintain that, due to tire inflation issues and wear.
Relax and "enjoy the ride" ;-).
  • goblue96goblue96 Member Posts: 33
I do feel a little better about the odometer still being accurate. But isn't the odometer a direct measure of the speedometer? Do they take the mileage from an "internal" speedometer first, then add the error and send the speed to the display? I know I'm getting a little picky, but I'm just curious. Maybe at the end of my lease I can give nissan a handwritten note with how many "miles" I think it has!
    Thanks again.
  • luvboxrsluvboxrs Member Posts: 47
Well, I headed back over to the dealer and tried to recreate the seat problem myself. No luck. I explained to them the problem is random and how can I recreate in 5 mins something that happens so randomly? Too bad for me I guess. They said they called the "tech line" and Nissan said DO NOT do anything to the seat unless it's recreated in the shop. They said they have to recreate it to know exactly what is wrong and what they have to fix..."after all," he tells me, "the problem may have nothing to do with your seat at all." Huh? So I guess I'll have to wait for it to break entirely. It has increased in frequency so lets hope it breaks before my 36k miles are up! I still may pursue the issue with the GM as bimmer4me recommended.

I had a service tech ride with me to demonstrate the transmission flare--which revealed itself on the first try. They kept it another 6 hours to try to see what was to be done. They reported that my vehicles VIN doesn't fall within the TSB, so unless Nissan tells them what to try, I'm stuck with that also. No TSB no fixie. "We don't know where to start--and it may just be the nature of your transmission."

Neither of these issues are critical to me. I just get very frustrated at having to deal with car manufacturer and dealer B.S. I understand Nissan doesn't want dealers ripping out the memory seat motors if that's not the problem, but from a consumer standpoint it's very frustrating.

I have compared my odometer readings to my gps and mile markers and the odometer is off on my 01 LE. I make a trip about every 3 mos. that is 321 miles each way. I took the trip for the first time with my Pathfinder and the odometer read 333 miles, I also compared this to my gps which showed approx. 321 miles. So both my speedo and odometer are off. Hell, the speedo in my boat is more accurate than the one in my Pathfinder. I've also compared the speedo in my wifes Impala and our old Mecury Villager and they all read dead on with the GPS, so I don't believe that an margin error is built in.
  • twodalstwodals Member Posts: 9
I had problems with the service at my dealer too. I called the 1-800-Nissan number in the owner's manual and raised heck about the way I was treated by the dealer. They were apologetic, and made sure I dealt with the GM until my problems were fixed. I had the shimmy between 60-70 and they had the car for 9 days in the first 2 months I owned it. Then I called the 1-800- Nissan number and the next thing I knew I had 4 new tires and no shimmy.
  • smithmdsmithmd Member Posts: 167
I have a '99.5 XE 4x4. When comparing my truck speedo to my GPS, the truck would say 75 while the GPS would say 72 or 73. After I replaced my tires with 255/70r16 (the stock size was 245/70r16), my speedo is dead on with my GPS.

Our '98 Honda Accord has the same issue, but for some reason, my wife doesn't want over-sized all-terrain tires on her car.
  • li_sailorli_sailor Member Posts: 1,081
Thanks, pathstar, for the info. You think I should put the new (different tread) tire on the spare rim...why do you think so?

On the auto seat adjustment thing...I just thought I'd throw this out there...I realize it's not likely but...you DO know that the auto adjust does not work when you're out of park or moving (I forget which or whether it's both).

Well, this is late but I wanted to post it anyway.
Did the oil last week at 22K and all is well. We've had it for 1 1/2 years and so far it is still the same great Pathy from day 1. We are still watching the trans concerning any slipping but so far nothing has really concerned me greatly.
Wished we'd bought it instead of leasing. Maybe when the lease is over we can purchase the new model!!!

Is Nissan replacing temp sensors under warranty? My dealer knows nothing about the updated sensor, even after I gave them the part number.
  • pathstarpathstar Member Posts: 201
The new tire should go on the spare rim, because it will be a slightly different size/stiffness or whatever. If it's installed with the original tires (you did say it was different, right?) it -may- mess up the ride/handling or even the LSD. The current tire on the spare rim should be the same as the other 3 (if not, moving it is a waste of time and money). Rule of "thumb" - both tires on front or rear should be the same (why is it a rule of "thumb" and not finger or whatever? ;-). Also, the inflation pressure should be kept the same, side to side or nasty things can happen! But I'm sure you all know that already.
  • pathstarpathstar Member Posts: 201
You can always buy out the lease - I did. My mutual funds were loosing money - I saved $4000 (over three years of payments) buying the lease out this spring. A better interest rate! You can buy out at any time.
  • kmrqkmrq Member Posts: 50
I noticed on my 99.5 PF, at the front of the wheel, the tires seems to only wear out on the outer edge of both tires only. Only 1/5 of it. It looks like only outer edge of my front tires are touching the ground. This means I have uneven tire. But I've already rotated my tires ,aligned and balanced it 4 times. I also have bad shimmy problem at speed of 60 to 70 mph. The rear tires seems fine.

My lease (June 2000) was from Nissan Canada Leasing. I bought it out at the dealer (Ericsson), I think it was this April (would have to check to be sure). Whoever you leased from, you should be able to buy it out from them (they don't seem to care if you do or don't - I suspect they made a little extra money from me buying out early, but as I saved some as well I don't really care. The important point for me is I learned leasing is not right for me. I prefer to own the vehicle so I'm not limited in the mods. and miles I do.
  • smithmdsmithmd Member Posts: 167
I have a PDF file with the TSB about shimmy. Anyone interested can e-mail me and I'll send it to you.

    smithmdsmith@yahoo.com

My tires wear out on the outside edge when on the front of the truck, too. I rotate them at every oil change to help negate this problem.
  • savage4savage4 Member Posts: 11
I too have had the same problem with the tires on my '01 pathy. They wear on the outside edges. The tire becomes very "choppy" and noisy to ride on. I rotate the tires every other oil change (6-7k miles). The dealer told me I had defective tires (Their answer for everything these days). I took the tires to a local tire dealer and had them replaced under the tire manufacturer warranty.

If you do this you need proof that the tires were rotated within the terms of the warranty. If you rotate them yourself you are out of luck. If they agree you did everything correctly they should pro-rate the tire based on the mileage and apply that amount towards the purchase of a new set.

    tailwind,
thanks for the info on the 2002 PF pictures. Been wondering for a long time how the 17 wheels will look like. If it is what is in the picture (looks like the old Runner SR5 to me), personally I prefer the 2001 designed. Had I liked it, I was thinking of changing it to the new wheels if possible. If I read it right the tires are 245/65/17

I will wait how the SE wheels look like although it is 16 in

Other than the wheels and if you are not a car enthusiast, you will not notice much of the upgrade. Not thinking of changing my 01 now, maybe 03 if it is completely different

For those who are thinking of buying, it is a great vehicle so far for me!
