I know a couple guys who have "darker than allowed" tint, and they do get tickets every once in a while, but they just pay them and move on. They apparently like their super-dark tint more than their $.

Still some quirks - I haven't sync'd the time yet, rear cam doesn't seem to work or I don't know where to look for the files. On the positive side, I've got the software going and got my 64gb card formatted and installed, many hours of capacity.
If you don't fix it, then you'll suffer greater consequences I'm sure. Haven't received the courtesy notice, will let you know if it tells me more when I get it.
Really nice picture, though, aside from the strange shadow across the bottom that is likely some sort of reflection off the windshield/dash or some such. I have been tempted more than once to get a dash cam, but just haven't taken the plunge yet. It would be fun to record some things apart from just the basic traffic monitoring capability.
If anything, some the LEO community still doesn't want to be on camera at all.
Or, if they go overboard, maybe it will finally create a boiling point.
The reflection is the dash and my very light colored interior, I think, I might try to aim it higher, but I want to capture the hood/nose of the car too.
I've only honked once since the cam was installed, I am hoping to catch something silly or interesting, too.
But the new cam has. I reviewed the past batch of files, and notice some time last night, the files stopped recording properly - there are mp4 files, but no viewer can open them. Nothing worked today. Now the camera won't turn on at all. Looks like I might have got a defective one, yay.
local cops can already can own all your phone data with a warrant - and they can grab your dash cam recordings too if they get the appropriate warrant.
Note that the same protection does NOT extend to the use of biometrics like fingerprints. You can be forced to give up biometric data (fingerprints, blood samples, DNA). So if you use the fingerprint scanner on newer smartphones, also use a PIN/password.
There's also a trick where you can set a boot password on some phones (iPhones for sure, hit and miss on Android). If you're pulled over, turn off your phone. You can't be compelled to provide the power-on password.
(IANAL disclaimer, of course)
Camera update - it fired up this morning and appeared to work. However, that means it wasn't on overnight - it started when I started the car. I think there's an issue, maybe related to the rear cam not working, too. Lovely.
Or just buy a defective one, like I seem to have done - I switched back to the stock card, and the cam now operates perfectly. I went back to the shop, and they said it is possible a bad card can shut it down, as a bad card can shut down modern head units which require memory. I hope that's it. I also have a bad cable causing the rear camera issue, replacement coming next week, as it is apparently proprietary.
On the dumb drivers subject, didn't see much today - people were really slow and didn't understand when to signal, but what's new. While on foot I did see a young woman in an Infiniti Beluga Whale/QX try to make a U-turn where it wouldn't fit, that was amusing.
A couple more test videos, again best viewed by selecting HD - first, the best part of the car wash, the air dry:

Sunny day:
http://youtu.be/egflQdJ2QG8
Suddenly the guy next to me cuts across the front of my car and proceeds to go straight ahead. Another car happens to be making a right turn and he ALMOST collides with him!
Later this same morning I'm making a right turn on a green light and out of the corner of my eye I see another car making a right turn ALONGSIDE of me!
Maybe I need a dash cam too!
Some cam examples (as always, best to select HD quality for better viewing):
Camera aimed as before - lots of dash glare - I was headed to check out the old auto auction
Glare, and a nice view of Mt. Rainier to the left
Aimed higher, more sky, but less glare
Less sun, aimed high as before, no glare
Not too bright, aimed lower, passing a nice old Mustang
A couple of the earlier test postings did have odd semi-pauses in the video stream for some reason (test 2/3). I thought it was my playback, but none others did it and those wouldn't play w/o doing it.
I seem to recall some upload hiccups - the videos played fine here. They also look better from the source file than on youtube.
By the way, it seems most of the middle and left lane campers were not too oblivious our situationally unaware, though many were guilty of camping. One car did exhibit a clueless lane change attempt that was aborted in time because they actually "looked" before completing the lane change.
I also find it hard to blame the campers on a road which probably has a ~60mph limit, normal drivers can't be expected to keep an eye out for the devilspawn out in their ill gotten toys. Not like coming up behind someone going 66 when they are going 61.

Perhaps the guy will take a more Christian approach to dealing with this sort of thing in the future, but he probably feels like he's the victim here instead.
And, sorry, but those kids weren't doing "doughnuts." Neither the video nor the tracks in the lot support that argument.
So the charges that they left the scene of an "accident" are dubious at best. For sure they all acted dumb, but criminally? I don't think so.
I am not arguing the driving skill of any involved; clearly they managed the feat. However, competence behind the wheel has as much to do with raw skill as it does with situational awareness, and that alone should dictate that this was the wrong time for that sort of horseplay.
Camping aside, other drivers on the road should have done exactly what they did do with this sort of game afoot: Be as predictable as possible! LOL
if R8 dude or any of the bikers have speedpass/fastpass type transponders, it would be possible to identify them via geotag info in the video cross-referenced with the archived fastpass transponder data.
donuts are very considerate and wicked fun when done in non-church empty parking lots.
donuts are critically educational to learn how to control a car which wants to swap ends or is sideways.
drivers who never intentionally did donuts probably have higher accident & insurance rates .
what is the optimal speed delta between lanes? clearly some people think each lane should be travelling the same doofus 55 mph . or 60 mph. or whatever speed they decree.
as a straw-man, let's say that it is good practice to keep the speed delta somewhere in the double digits. in mph. and let's say that a 1mph speed delta is too low.
