We purchased the 2016 CRV Touring this weekend from Memphis and got an excellent deal
$27,800 (price increased $300 because of mud guards but did include all weather mats) $499 Dealer processing +TTL
We were able to get the car in Modern Steel. There aren't many Touring models left in TN and most dealerships local to Nashville were not willing to match the price from the Memphis dealership so we drove down to Memphis.
In doing research, the price that I was able to negotiate online is even better than the Costco Auto price as I received quotes through their program as well. I sent emails to 12 dealerships before I found one that would give me the price I was looking for.

Congrats @pdesail! I lived in Memphis a couple of years too, and went there often as a kid growing up in N. Mississippi. Actually purchased a few cars there (or rather, my family did). Worse memory was hitting a Caddy in my Datsun wagon while trying to organize the takeout ribs I'd gotten from Gridleys. Lost the sauce all over the passenger side floor.
Nice to see good deals in mid-month - anyone else buying?
I am looking to buy a Honda CR-V EXL FWD without navigation in DFW TX market. I am trying to come up with a good target price for the vehicle. Browsing through this forum (which is extremely helpful resource), I see various price points for the price of the car from $24991 in Northern VA to to somewhere around $26500.
Do you think $25000 (includes destination, but before TTL/administrative price) is a good target price in DFW area? Should I be more aggressive? Is DFW a good market for Honda buyers in general?
Any input from mods and other commentators will be greatly appreciated.
Welcome to the forum @longhornjh. Dallas prices got more competitive about six months ago and it's a better buyer's market there than in Houston or the rest of the state from what I can tell from reading the posts.
I think the reason is because a couple of dealers are "fighting" each other for business but I don't really know.
The area around DC is the gold standard.
$25,000 would be a good starting target but that's about $2,800 below invoice and may not be doable. I do see almost 100 EX-L FWDs in your area so that helps. (inventory link)
I think I'd get quotes from your local dealers and then focus on the two or three best ones. If you can wait until the end of the month, you should do better since the dealers may need a few more sales to make quota for the month and earn their bonuses. If you get lucky, you'll find the "fighting" dealers and they'll outbid each other.
Mind the junk fees but Houston seems worse for adding on ProPacks and other stuff.
Hello @stever Looking for Touring AWD black or modern steel in NOVA/DC zip is 22180. Also willing to go to Maryland. Got quoted $29,800 + dest fee$900= $30,700 $299 dealer processing fee, 6% tax (MD) $1859.94, title/reg $443.85= OTD $33,302.79
Any advice would be great since we will keep looking.
But we've seen better around DC - I'm not quite as familiar with MD prices but understand they are as good or even a bit better than NOVA.
Looking at our inventory link, I see ~230 AWD Touring models within 50 miles of your zip. That seems like "enough" - however I didn't see any black ones and only 14 Modern Steels.
So, if you can wait another 8 or 9 days and redo your quotes, you might snag some more bucks off. But if your heart is set on one of those colors (and that's really a deal breaker to me), then try to get them to knock some off the OTD to make up for the highish doc fee, but do the deal.
And inventory links are notorious for being outdated, so crosscheck with the dealers on the colors too.
Wanted to share my experience as this thread was very helpful in my research.
We purchased a 2016 Honda CR-V EXL AWD from Honda of Mentor (Cleveland Ohio burb on the east side) for the following $$
Car price: $27,300 Doc fee: $250 Tag/Title: $33.50
The Edmunds TMV for Mentor for this car is $29,383 so they're being more aggressive now. Truth be told I'm pretty sure we could have done better but I felt the price was fair and didn't want to spend more time on it.
Thanks for your help and good luck to anyone in the Cleve Ohio area - they're willing to deal!
Hi all. Thanks in advance for your guidance. I am looking at a 2016 CR-V Touring (AWD). The sticker price is $34,395 and the dealer offered a discount of around $1,350. Also received a fair trade-in allowance. I am sure there is a little more wiggle room but I am just wondering how much more I can expect to get.
I am not one to go back and forth between dealers nickeling and diming. I would rather just find a price I am comfortable paying and stick to it. Any advice you guys can give would be greatly appreciated.
Hello all, and hello @stever , for 2016 CR-V EX AWD, I just got a quote as follows : ========================== Selling price: $25800 Doc Fee: $299 Tax: (25800+299)*6.5%=1696.44 Title & License: 60 ============================ Total (OTD): 27855
This is from Draper/Salt Lake City area in Utah. Is that a good deal? Find selling prices ranging from 23500-25000 at this forum. Why such big difference? Thanks.

Zip code is 19380 (Pennsylvania).
Thanks,
Ed
Hi Ed,
I get $34,295 for MSRP. No matter - invoice is $32,236 and the True Market Value average price paid for the 19380 zip is $32,019.
So your quote is above average (and not in a good way). The trade-in could be part of that.
Since you just want a fair price with not much hassle, I'd suggest going to this link and click on the Special Offers link. You'll get a Price Promise quote and since you already have a quote for the trade-in, you can ask the dealer to match that number. You may be able to save a bit relatively painlessly.

I can't really explain the difference in regional pricing. The DC area typically has the best deals followed by Southern California. Dallas is better than Houston. Beats me.
So your selling price is about $1,000 below invoice.
I see about 80 EXs listed on our inventory page so there's still plenty at the dealer.
If you aren't in a hurry, you may want to wait another week - maybe one of your local dealers will get more aggressive in order to make the money end bonus numbers. But overall, your quote is better than average and not too shabby.
(my numbers include the $900 destination btw - same for you @cheeseboy)
Hello. I will be looking to buy a 2016 CR-V EX-L AWD in CT this week. What should my target price be in this market? I'm centered around zip 06511, although I can travel up to Hartford.
Also, does paying cash give me any bargaining power? (Or would dealers rather sell me their financing?)
Paying cash doesn't really help and may hurt, since dealers make money putting financing together. You can always finance and pay the loan off in a few weeks (there's usually no pre-payment penalty for paying a car loan off early, but ask if you decide to go that route).
Invoice is @28,810 and TMV is about $500 higher. Not a particularly aggressive area for Honda deals.
That said, I'd try for a selling price of $1,000 (or more) below invoice. If you can wait until closer to the end of the month, you may do a bit better (assuming some dealers may need a few more sales to make their bonus).
@Stever. I ended up buying the 2016 CRV Ex 2WD for $ 25800 OTD. Did not opt for any accessories or additional warranty. They did try hard to sell the additional warranty though!!
@Stever. I ended up buying the 2016 CRV Ex 2WD for $ 25800 OTD. Did not opt for any accessories or additional warranty. They did try hard to sell the additional warranty though!!
Invoice is $29,157 and the True Market Value average price paid for your area is a bit less at $28,981 (those numbers include destination). When I click the Inventory tab at that link I see ~37 EX_Ls with Nav in stock in DFW.
So $27,791 sounds good to me, about $1,400 below invoice. You might save a little more by stalling until Thursday or Friday, but there's not a lot of selection in that trim.
Hi @stever I'm shopping for a 2016 EX FWD in Charlotte, NC. I've gotten a couple of quotes and I'm trying get them to come down off of their astronomical add-ons and even crazier NC doc fees. Right now, the lowest total quote I've gotten includes: Base price: $23,423 Dealer fees: $649 Tags: $89 Dealer Accessories (wheel locks, nitrogen tires, splash guards, cargo tray): $499 Total OTD of $25,397.13
I don't care about the accessories and I've told them as much, but they don't have any without. What do you think of this quote and any tips on getting them to come down? Thanks!
Yep, you have $1,100 in junk fees there. And our invoice page shows a $115 ad fee to add insult to injury.
So, invoice with destination but without the ad fee is $25,309. The True Market Value average price paid for a Charlotte zip is $24,881.
Your base price quote is almost $2,000 below invoice so that's good. Guess I'd counter with $24,400 OTD. Or think about traveling up to northern Virginia or test driving a CX-5.
It's getting close to the end of the month so you may want to wait until Thursday or Friday to make your counter-offer. Let them stew in the meantime.
Hi @stever I am also shopping for a 2016 EX 2WD in Irvine, CA 92618. Quote which I got is
Base price: $23,300 Doc fees: $80 Tax:8%
Total OTD of $25.546.00
How down can I get this to? Thanks!
Hi @anji_resh, invoice with destination is 25,553 and the TMV average price paid for Irvine is $25,243. The invoice includes an ad fee of $244 so it'd be nice to get rid of that.
So you're already ~$2,000 below invoice and that's a very good quote. It's getting close to the end of the month so who knows, may as well try for $2,500 off. That would put the selling price around $22,800 without the ad fee. There's plenty of EXs in stock over there too.
That said, I wouldn't lose any sleep if the dealer digs in at this point.
Invoice is $28,819 and the True Market Value average price paid for DC/MD/NOVA is $28,463. My numbers include the $900 destination. You're in a good region for Honda buying and your quote with freight ($26,815) is a tidy $2,000 below invoice.
The processing is a tad high and I seem to recall seeing the wheel locks for $40, but we see lots worse, and there's not much you can (legally) do about the taxes.
Looks good from here. Push a bit and you may get a few hundred off the next couple of days, or just relax and do the deal.
First time visitor here. Love the discussion forum. Steve, you are awesome.
Zip: 50323 (Des Moines, IA) CRV EX AWD 2016 Their initial offer: 25,756 (I think this might be right at the TMV) I'm planning on leasing, if that makes any difference.
It seems like given the current market (which I know is geographically dependent) I should be able to get to something like 24,500. Any thoughts?
I am willing to travel in order to get a significantly better deal (500 dollars better)
Hi @herkyhawk, thanks for the kind words and welcome to the forum. But really, I'm just parroting stuff that other buyers have posted over the years, so thank you for signing up and throwing out your quote info.
Even though your lease will be based off MSRP, the negotiated price will enter into the equation to determine your lease payments. Details here if you are new to leasing - Calculate Your Own Car Lease Payment.
I get invoice of $26,526, MSRP of $28,195 and TMV of $26,899 for your zip code. My numbers include the $900 destination. That may wind up as a separate line item in the lease calculations and could account for the difference in your quote and TMV.
TMV is about $500 cheaper up in Minneapolis. That's closer than Chicago I guess, and MN's TMV is a bit better than TMV in Chicago. So you may want to get a quote up that way too.
$24,500 with destination should be doable in some markets, but not every region has dealers doing $2,000 below invoice for the selling price before taxes and fees. This is the week to try for that though. Good luck!
This site is SO informative. Some assistance please! SF Bay Area quote: 16 CRV LX fwd: Price- 21, 506 Doc- 80 License- 279 Tax - 1835 OTD= 23,700
Plus; I read somewhere above that if one goes with HFC at 0.9% (great FICO) that the delaer gets some kickback from HFC, thus, some leeway in pushing price down somewhat...yes?
This site is SO informative. Some assistance please! SF Bay Area quote: 16 CRV LX fwd: Price- 21, 506 Doc- 80 License- 279 Tax - 1835 OTD= 23,700
Plus; I read somewhere above that if one goes with HFC at 0.9% (great FICO) that the delaer gets some kickback from HFC, thus, some leeway in pushing price down somewhat...yes?
Invoice is $23,203, MSRP is $24,645 and the TMV average is $22,909. That's for an Oakland zip and includes destination. So you are looking at ~$1,800 below invoice and that's a good quote.
Dealers do make money packaging loans and that's why we often suggest that shoppers get their own financing quotes before hitting the dealers, and then invite the dealers to meet or beat their rate. Often the dealers can beat rate quotes.
So yeah, that kickback is additional profit and is the reason that paying cash can hurt a deal.
Thank you Stever. So does HFC have certain fees associated with 0.9 with excellent FICO. Is it a flat rate or something some dealers bump up or down based on a)FICO and/or b) how hard price was pushed down? Thanks!
Stever, I live in north VA, i like to buy one CRV LX AWD or CRV EX AWD, today i got quote for out of door price $22253(LX, AWD) and $24447(EX AWD) for 2016, it is too good to be true. only have one each in stock though. I got $1000 more from another dealer. Do you think there is any trap?
what is best price below the invoice in north VA. we have $1400 for process and 4.2% tax, $60 dmv fee
black inside and outside is LX 4WD, blue outside and gray inside is EX. will take a look tomorrow.
Sales asked me to get the car tomorrow though, valid only tomorrow.
It's not unusual for us to see reports of $2,000 to $2,500 below invoice on CR-Vs in NOVA.
$1,400 for processing is about $1,300 too much. But invoice is $24,420 (on the LX) so you are OTD for almost $2,000 below invoice. Invoice on the EX is $26,526, so you're fine there too. (By OTD I'm assuming you mean that the processing and taxes and DMV fees are included in your quotes).
Tomorrow is the end of the month and that's why you've been told that the deal expires tomorrow. Bonuses for the salespeople and the dealer usually go by the month, and you tend to get better quotes at month end.
This forum has provided some excellent information for our CRV purchase. I have been reading it for the last few months and negotiated with several dealers in Maryland (Baltimore area) based on the information on this thread this week.
After going to four separate dealers in the area the best price we got for an AWD Touring was $32,395.94 on the road. I had to continue the search for a better price.
Today we took a 1 hr and 15 min ride to York, Pa and made the purchase from Apple Honda.
This is a great start chain of discussion on prices. I would like your advice on the following.
Usually they said when redesign model is coming for next year before current year model that it would help to reduce price in the negotiation process. Do you think that is true? 2017 honda crv news leaks sound like move toward mid luxury design. Not sure when it would come out, usually dealers need to move 2016 inventory before 2017 arrives. Could I use that info to ask for price drops?
zip code is 15017 and pittsburgh, pa region, what is best the out of the door price would be for AWD touring CRV 2016 black peral or sunset peral? i am still waiting for dealers to offer me entire details on fee costs.
So far 2 dealers offers 31400 for selling price only not include fees. what would be the ideal selling prices since i am not sure what invoice price is in this region.
Thanks and appreciated your suggestion. Happy Sunday
I think the new model or redesigned model theory is true. Honda seems pretty good about managing their production and inventory though.
The rumors I lean to indicate that the new CR-V will be a 2018 model that will be released in 2017. When will be the question - if sales fall off a lot, Honda could push the 2018 up to a summer release, but my guess it'll be more like October of 2017. But I guess wrong a lot.
You can ask the dealer for that info but they may not know more than the rumor sites (and may be under a non-disclosure agreement too).
Invoice is $32,236, MSRP is $34,295 and the True Market Value average price paid for your zip is $33,069. those numbers all include the $900 destination and I don't see any added cost for either of your color choices.
So $31,400 for the selling price is $800 below invoice. Good start but if you aren't in any hurry, you can probably whack that down another $500 or more by dragging your feet. Surely the 2017s will arrive "soon" and the dealers really will be trying to move the old stock. I see 41 Tourings in stock up your way - seems plenty for that style but I don't see either of your color choices (our inventory link is probably like most - it's hard to keep them current).
Ideal selling price would be $30,000 with just the taxes added on top, but that's probably too much of a stretch.
Well @soupie531, you'd think white would be a plus in Texas but we show a minus $30 adjustment for white in your zip. But there's not many white ones in stock there. Go figure.

MN tax/license: $525
Out the door: $26,298
Thanks in advance!
So you have a quote $2,300 below invoice. Good deal!
Zip: 50323 (Des Moines, IA)
CRV EX AWD 2016
Their initial offer: 25,756 (I think this might be right at the TMV)
I'm planning on leasing, if that makes any difference.
It seems like given the current market (which I know is geographically dependent) I should be able to get to something like 24,500. Any thoughts?
I am willing to travel in order to get a significantly better deal (500 dollars better)
Thanks in advance!
Good luck!
SF Bay Area quote:
16 CRV LX fwd:
Price- 21, 506
Doc- 80

Tax - 1835
OTD= 23,700
Plus; I read somewhere above that if one goes with HFC at 0.9% (great FICO) that the delaer gets some kickback from HFC, thus, some leeway in pushing price down somewhat...yes?
Dealers do make money packaging loans and that's why we often suggest that shoppers get their own financing quotes before hitting the dealers, and then invite the dealers to meet or beat their rate. Often the dealers can beat rate quotes.
So yeah, that kickback is additional profit and is the reason that paying cash can hurt a deal.
Thanks!
I live in north VA, i like to buy one CRV LX AWD or CRV EX AWD, today i got quote for out of door price $22253(LX, AWD) and $24447(EX AWD) for 2016, it is too good to be true. only have one each in stock though.
Best grab it and go.
$22253(LX, AWD) and $24447(EX AWD) for 2016 is the final price they told me. out of door price.
Thank you for your quick reply
After going to four separate dealers in the area the best price we got for an AWD Touring was $32,395.94 on the road. I had to continue the search for a better price.
Today we took a 1 hr and 15 min ride to York, Pa and made the purchase from Apple Honda.
Here's the deal:
2016 AWD Touring White/Blk
Price: $29,488.54
Md Tax: $1,769.31
MVA fees: $306.35
Doc Fee: $135.00
Total: $31,699.20
Less $500.00 (recent college grad)
Total: $31,199.20
Thanks Stever we appreciate the information.
OTD price now I am getting is $25,790.
Is it good? or I can do better? Plus they make a big fuzz about the white color. Reasonable? or just sales trick?
Invoice is $25,309 and TMV is $24,805.
So you'd want your selling price to be closer to $23,300 to $23,800. Then add in the taxes to get the OTD price.
We've been seeing better deals in Dallas the last two or three months, so if you don't mind driving....
