@driver100 - thanks for that backstory.

We have a similar set up here in Colorado for liquor stores - you can only own just one. That's true for the supermarket chains, too - only one Target in the state can sell liquor, one WalMart, etc.

There are plans to loosen control of this, gradually (it's important to remember that our current governor was a majority owner of one of the first brewpubs in the state).

    Talking about Chick-fil-A.

Mrs. j decided to get an early start with shopping today in preparation of going on vacation next week. So, she didn't eat breakfast. By the time she realized she was hungry it was lunch time and she was close to a Chick-fil-A so she thought she'd pop in for her favorite wrap of some type. Wrong, the place was packed and the drive thru, which she doesn't use anyhow, was even worse. That resulted in no lunch too. Now we are going out someplace because she wore herself out from shopping all day.

I hope she picks out some place cheap since I don't think I can afford much more. Good thing I have a Visa card. :'(

Re. Chick-fil-A, not to offend Mike or anyone, but I just don't like them. Their stores have tended to be among the cleanest with the most courteous employees. That said, I find their chicken to be too salty, somewhat slimy, and tasting too much like processed meat, rather than real chicken...just not a fan. In contrast, for my rare fast food utilization, I like Raising CANES chicken the best, and Culver's. Both are not perfect, but then after all they are fast food places. Five Guys, I suppose, is good for a burger, but I eat read meat no more than twice per month, and when I've been there, my clothes smell like grease. I'm watching my diet more and more, and although I've always had a sweet tooth, but in recent years I've cut out 90%+ of my former intake of sweets, which keeps me at 6"0, 164 lbs.

ChickFilA is losing quality and consistency control over many of its stores. The employees often don't have the winning attitude they used to have. The training must have changed and the stores have trouble recruiting and keeping employees for the pay level.

Also the housekeeping on some of the stores themselves is not as good. CFA has added lots of units in the last 1.5 years. I think they are expanding too rapidly. I'm sure they're making money and their franchisees are making money, but think back to all the businesses who overexpanded and ended up bankrupt or closing most of their stores as the reputation changed.

I don't find this to be the case at all at my local CFA's. The employees are far and above other fast food places. Our franchisee is on the ball here.

Last Saturday, the family decided to get CFA for dinner. Given that it was Saturday, and the stores are closed on Sunday, the drive thru lane was filled and wrapped around the building.

But - there were two employees outside - one with a tablet to take your order, and another with the means to take your payment - cash, CC, whatever. I was in line maybe 10 minutes total, which I didn't feel was too bad.

The "can only own one" proviso is very difficult to enforce though if someone is crafty. We had it here and what happened is that someone who wanted more than one set up his son-in-law, a retired V-P and one other connected person as a silent partner in their applications. Much of this only came to light after the fact. Absent a long drawn-out lawsuit there was no way to refuse them.

Don't mind me. Just plopping this here in case it applies to anyone in the group.

Have you purchased a new vehicle in the last six months, and are you willing to talk about your experience getting a loan? If so, a reporter would love to talk to you about your experience. Please email PR@Edmunds.com by Wednesday, May 17, 2017 letting us know if you were a new or returning customer to your dealership and if the experience was different than what you expected (easier/harder to get financed, higher/lower interest rate, etc.). Thanks for your help!

Sorry, my last car loan was 2 years ago with three more to go. Probably my last new car purchase. It's back to hoopties if I want more.

A reporter should do a story on how guys convince their wives to LET them get a car loan. That's gotta be harder than getting the actual loan.

Speaking of loans, my buddy who details cars for a car dealer told us about this online company who offers to "finance everybody". It's a variation of the --buy here pay here-- lot. It seems customers pick out a vehicle online they finance you at 24.99% and then deliver it to your door. No test drive, no inspection.

Somehow one of these cars came through his shop for pre delivery prep and the outside was covered in dirt and mold from sitting God knows where. He said the interior was so filthy that he had to use a hose and shop vac to clean the interior.

How credit compromised would you have to be to agree to that kind of deal?

Re: Subway.  Maybe it's a regional thing but where I live there are Hoagie shops in every corner that blow Subway completely out of the water and use bread made by local Italian bakeries.

We will just go to Wawa and get a classic to split. High quality and a great deal. And a half is plenty for each of us.

Wawa blows Subway away that's for sure!   My favorite chain is Primos.  We have one in town and in your neck of woods I'm pretty sure there is one in Eagle plaza on 561.  The bread is from a bakery in South Philly.

A good friend of mine went through the whole long process of getting a CFA franchise so I know what you just talked about is accurate.   He really blew It IMO.  After a long while and back and forth he got approved to own one.  He didn't like the area they offered him and turned it down waiting for another area.  Well, they have never called him back for a different location.

From what I understand as they want to open new ones, you can "trade up" so to speak and take on a different location.

I just got off the phone with my brother.  He bought a 430i in black with cognac leather interior Tuesday.  MSRP $51350.  He traded his 2017 X5 for the 430i.  I warned him about getting another SUV back in January when he ordered the X5 - he buys 2-3 new cars every year.  He still has his 2016 740i.  Why a single man needs two new cars in his garage is beyond me - and you guys thought I was bad.

In the last 24 months, he's bought and driven:

    2015 Mercedes E 350 Convertible
    2015 Mercedes SL 550
    2015 Mercedes CL Coupe
    2016 Mercedes E400
    2016 Mercedes S 550 Coupe
    2016 BMW 740i
    2017 BMW X5
    2017 BMW 430i

And that's in just 24 months.  I'll bet anything that he doesn't keep the 430i for more than 6 months!  :o

When we have gone there for dinner I have also seen the employees outside for the drive-thru like you described. They seem to be VERY efficient at the one we go to and they ALL seem happy to accommodate you too and the place is near immaculate. All of this is kinda flabergastering to me for a fast food place.

The one near us seems to be as close to a money printing press as the law allows.

No offense taken, carnaught.  I just find CFA a nice departure from my very bland diet.  I usually only eat lunch there once a month - 4 chicken strip meal with medium fries and a medium Diet Coke.  I don't put any of their sauces on the chicken because they use sugar in them - I am an insulin dependent diabetic so I can't have anything with sugar.

I have not noticed any excess salt on the chicken or fries - could be just your local CFA that over salts the food.   ;)

I don't know about the salty taste in the breaded patty for the #1 or the coating for the strips. I don't find the meat to be processed, rather it's real chicken. BUT the salty taste on a #5, grilled sandwich, may be the marinade that is on the meats from the commissary AND that is soaked on the #5 patty before it is grilled.
That's why my wife does a #1 patty which is a plain filet without extra seasoning. Some stores act like real fools and insist it be ordered as a #5 at higher cost. Most CFA's that care, just charge the $309 and grab a #1 patty before breading it and grill it without adding any extra seasoning during grilling. Put it on a whole wheat bun rather than the tasty regular bun ($.20) and add on the pickles for the #1 and it's a really good tasting sandwich.

Add the superfood salad, kale and brocollini or a Greek yogurt parfait with granola and it's a nice lunch.

    Oh, more like this!

At one time I preferred 2-door cars....looks and feels sportier, better balance for driving, shorter doors - easier to open, good for salesmen...open door and reach in the back to get your briefcase etc.

These days I prefer 4 door cars; usually easier to get in and out, looks more functional, easier for passengers to get in the back, more headroom, usually better vision back, usually more headroom, easier to open doors, looks more sophisticated.

You made me hungry......the sandwich sounds good with that salad. Lots of salt in bread and did you say breaded....that will probably add a fair amount of salt to, not to mention the marinade sauce.

I go with a friend and we share a chipotle chicken wrap at Tim Hortons. Half a sandwich has 240 cal and 500 mg of salt....not too bad.

    "Ripley's Believe It Or Not!"

Imid, I have been very sick these past 18 months.  The purchase of the 740i was a necessity due to my surgery and the chronic pain - getting in and out of the CLS400 was impossible for me.  I don't think I am going to be able to drive much longer (2-5 years if I live that long).  This Hepatitis C is playing havoc with my body (liver, cancer, immune system).  This new drug I am taking has only a 50-50 chance of killing off the virus.  Recurrence of liver cancer is a given and they can't operate on me again.  So, I am merely facing the facts.

My 740i just turned 5000 miles (5 months old).  I am seriously considering an extended warranty on the BMW.  I am going to keep this car - this will be the very last car I own.  This is the very first car I have ever owned that is truly comfortable and meets all my needs.

    I don't believe you.

This week, The Players Championship is being played a few blocks from where my brother lives on the TPC Sawgrass Golf Course in Ponte Vedra, FL - about 18 miles south of Jacksonville.  Beautiful course.

Yes, a beautiful complex. I got to play the TPC course and the adjacent Valley course a few years ago. We played the Valley course first, as it is not as tough as the TPC course. I hit a poor drive on the first hole and had a long iron into the green. I hit a 3 iron to about 2 feet from the hole and birdied the first hole I ever played there !

It was all down hill from there ! The next day on # 17 on the TPC course (the island green) I hit an 8 iron onto the green and then spoiled it by 3 putting for a bogie. Johnny Miller played a few holes with our group. Great guy. He was retired from playing at that time (lost his putting touch) and was a commentator. Lots of good stories. He said that Curtis Strange got mad at him for something he said on air and wanted to fight him. JM said he would have kicked his [non-permissible content removed]. I believe him too.

Mike, you have BtoB for over 3 1/2 years still. No reason to rush!

RB, I don't like dealing with the bigger doors. Plus am less interested in riding low to the ground.

When is a good time to extend the warranty to 6 years/100,000 miles and what would be the approximate cost?  Perhaps RB might know?

I'll check, Mike. Do you want B to B or CPO(primarily powertrain) coverage?

Isn't powertrain already covered for 6 years anyway?

OMG. Words I never thought I'd hear in the posts from @Abacomike: "extended warranty." That's a great thing.
If you believe that, I have something I've been trying to unload for a while now because I can't find a sucker buyer, and no, it ain't my Genny. :o

WOW, for a second there I thought I opened my yapper when I wasn't looking, then I figured it out. But, you're probably right...even with one hand tied behind my back. ;)

Im sure when your BtoB warranty is ending you'll begin to get correspondence from BMW trying to sell you a warranty.  I'm getting them now for our Enclave and that still has over a year in BtoB and will be gone before warranty is up.

Curtis Strange?  Never liked him - saw him play at PGA West in LaQuinta CA, not far from where I lived.  I saw him bad mouthing a few judges and spectators.  Not very professional for a golfing professional.   :o

People with that bad of credit probably have no intention of paying back the loan, so it doesn't matter what the rate is.

You better knock on wood or a big garbage truck might rear-end you in the 740i :disappointed::worried:

@abacomike, if you buy a B to B warranty, for sure you'll trade it in the next 1-5 yrs., LOL. I assume they're transferable though?
