I agree bwia. That is my idea of a very nice luxury automobile.
Did you get that 2016 Lexus LS yet? As for the G90, my '15 Genny is now called a G80 and the interior is so much like the G90 I'd have to see them side by side to see the difference. The G90 is a good 11 grand more than my car but I don't need or want all of the extra stuff it has. Especially the rear seat entertainment system and the head rest screens on the rear of the front seats. My rear seats are almost never used and for sure they ain't used by me. I don't play with what I have now so for me a G90 would not be worth the money difference. FWIW, when I got my first oil change last summer at the dealership near me, I sat in the 2017 G90 and it felt just like mine. To me the leather wasn't any softer but I imagine that it is quieter on the road but until I take a test drive, which I don't plan to do, I'm not positive that it is. Mine is pretty darn quiet. And I'm not allowed to get another car for who knows how long. :'( jmonroe

Yes. Brought it home Tuesday. They gave me $22,000. for my 2010 LS. Their price was $57,500. Plus $399. doc fee, so a diff. of about $36,000. The new one has 12,000 miles. I thought it was a pretty good deal for a 6 year upgrade. Three years still left on original warranty. Easy peasy deal. Love the car so far. I tried to update my profile, and the 2016 shows there but not on my posts. I know this has happened to others but I don't remember how to fix it. Help.
Enjoy the new addition to your fleet.  Sounds like an awesome deal.  Good luck!!!

All - lots of posts to try and catch up on.

I am still in the hospital but have deteriorated rapidly and am in the intensive care unit. I'm on the mend and things are looking up, but of the 7 teams consulting on my case, none seem to have a true answer as to what is on. All diagnostic labs are negative for viruses and bacterial infections. That's good but for the fact that I had 106 fever for 4 hours yesterday.

Current working theory is that a virus hit me and passed but in the process triggered my underlying auto-immune disease that I have thanks to Crohn's. A dose of steroids has helped immensely which supports that theory.

    Stay tuned
Good grief, FF.  ICU is not a fun place to be - take it from someone who has spent a couple of weeks in ICU over the past year.  So they think it affected your auto-immune system.  106 fever is serious stuff.  Hang in there - we're all pulling for you.

Please keep us updated when you can.  My prayers are already on their way to the main guy!

Thanks everyone. This community really does mean a lot.

As far as all the tests and having my parents weigh in, absolutely done. My Mom flew out when I was admitted and my Dad flew out when I had my downward spiral that took me to the ICU. Someone has been with me in the hospital at all hours.

What they're telling me now is that things were dicey. Every time the body experienced a fever north of 104/105 and specially once you start hitting 106, it's like repeated body blows. Eventually you can't tolerate it anymore. This last one yesterday was scary for everyone as I was basically unresponsive and do not remember most of it.

In any case I seem to be on the mend, fingers crossed. My wife did say I could buy a Porsche if I wanted. I suspect that will turn into a Porsche miniature once I'm discharged.  :'(

Good lord, @28firefighter , hang in there! Sounds very close. I spent some time in ICU following my heart surgery in '09 and like you there is a day or so there that I don't remember and which I gather is just as well since I could have gone either way. My first real memory is of the middle of the night on day 2 when I became coherent, was able to sit on the edge of the bed around 3AM, and eat a piece of toast with Cheez Whiz (which isn't something I normally have). It tasted so good...

If you get a craving for Cheez Whiz, consider it a good sign!

This is exactly what the shop did to my cousins late model Silverado 2500.   Long story short he was backing up behind a store, didn't see the drop off for the dock and put one tire in the dock.  Tweaked entire frame, bad enough the doors wouldn't open.  New frame ordered and swapped.  25k repair.

Toyota dealers had the frame swap process down to a science when they were doing them on Tacoma pickups that were recalled for rusty frames. There are some neat time-lapse videos of it being done on YouTube.

We hope by now you have turned the corner on this malady and you will be back to your old self very soon.

Just curious, I believe you said your parents are doctors so did they get any experts they know to confer with the doctors you are using now. I know this can get touchy but a lot of times the good doctors don't mind talking to another expert.

Anyway, good luck and start posting again soon.

Is the CarFax and individual buys on a car and pays for themself the same as the CarFax that dealers pay for and link from their listings for used cars? A friend is looking at Mustangs for the kid in GA and the CarFax shows rear end damage from a collision. I wondered if a paid CarFax gave a dollar value on repair to get more info about the "collision."

Some interesting stats on age and accidents. There's a reason insurance rates are so high for teenagers.

Odd charts. Everyone I've seen before has another uphill spike at around
age 70 as people lose their skills.
What you want is "Accidents per 100,000 miles by Age. Seniors drive a lot less
than do teenagers. Oldsters also drive less at night due to vision problems.

You know, you can pick up a 928 (still a legit exotic in my eyes, and one of my favorite cars of the era), not to mention a 924 or even 944, for no more than a couple grand. They will be beaters and probably not roadworthy, but still a Porsche. Have fun!

We did. My father bought a new Mercury Monarch which was the Mercury version of the Ford in Canada. It was a two door like the one in the photo. He bought a new Ford or mercury every 1 or two years beginning in 1954. He loved most of his Fords, but he was not pleased with the Monarch. Terrible ride and steering.

He disliked the Monarch so much he bought his first GM in decades, an 84 Olds Omega which was even worse than the Monarch. After that he bought Camrys, which he loved.

I think CarFax is limited to what info is reported to them by different sources. I've seen accident reports say simply " accident reported" and others say "accident more than $1000 damage". Never saw an exact damage figure.

My dad bought one of those X-body Omega 2-doors new, I think it was an '81 or '82. It was a Brougham model so it had the high-zoot velour interior with posh seating and carpet, and wire wheel covers instead of those Olds wheels. Actually a nice car though even with the 2.8 V-6 it wasn't very quick. He actually never had a problem with it until he ran it into a light pole in front of his house and wrote it off. Never was certain exactly what happened there but apparently another driver was found to be at fault. He then bought a K-car Aries wagon.

My father found the brakes really grabbed and could make the car go out of control I think the government investigated and did find a major problem. My Dad was very particular about his cars although he was happy just to get a new Ford......but, once he thought the car was unsafe he didn't want it any more. Maybe that is why I like my cars to be covered under warranty.

@houdini1.....nice move on the Lexus. What are the major differences moving up 6 model years? Embarrassed to say, as much of a car enthusiast as I am, I really don't know much about the LS.

GG, exterior wise there have only been minor changes since 2007. Both cars are AWD. I'm sure several things have been changed/upgraded under the sheet metal. The '16 car has slightly more horsepower, is much quieter, and has the optional 19 inch tires/wheels. The interior was completely redone around 2013 and everything about the interior is completely different from the 2010. Most of the latest "nannies" are optional and all I have and want is blind spot, proximity warnings, etc. The navigation system has been upgraded, more complicated, went from touch screen to mouse, 12 inch monitor, which is huge with good graphics, etc. I was able to pair my iphone and ipad with no problems, same with garage door, etc.

The LS is certainly not a "drivers car", but it has a V-8 with almost 400 HP and is very quiet, smooth, comfortable, and powerful. To me it actually handles quite well. I keep it in the sport mode, which changes the shift points, firms up the steering, etc. .You can tell the difference, seat of the pants wise between it and the 2010. I have owned various BMWs and MBs in the past, and have nothing bad to say about them. Great cars. I also really like the current crop of Audi's. I will admit that my wife's preferences also come into play on my choice of autos, and while she very seldom drives it, she is a passenger quite often and she loves the LS.

In other words, just a nice comfortable, boring, old mans car !!

Thanks JP, it is my 3rd LS, so I am very comfortable with it. At 74, I hope I can outlast it !!

The '17 LS is a complete carry over of the '16, but the '18 model is supposed to be a completely new model. It will have the "full Monte" huge grill on some other Lexus models, which I am not a fan of. It will also lose the V8 engine in favor of a turbo V6. I prefer the V8 and the more reserved grill treatment of the '16 so it was a good time to get into one.

    Yeah..but you're a YOUNG 74.

Nothing wrong with how the LS drives. Truth told, they took the formula of the big V8 American Sedan, and bettered it in every way. No harm in that.

Aside from the IS and GS F Sports I've test driven (which are sportier by design), I've found all Lexi to be supremely comfortable, with anvil reliability, and easy to drive. That's a recipe for success in my book.

Saw this online this morning - thought you guys might enjoy it with a chuckle:

"...This actually happened to an Englishman, in France, who was totally drunk.

A French policeman stops the Englishman's car and asks if he has been drinking.

With great difficulty, the Englishman admits that he has been drinking all day, that  his daughter got married that morning, and that he drank champagne and a few bottles of wine at the reception, and many single malts scotches thereafter.

Quite upset, the policeman proceeds to alcohol-test (breath test) the Englishman and verifies that he is indeed completely hammered.

He asks the Englishman if he knows why, under French Law, he is going to be arrested.

The Englishman answers with a bit of humour, "No sir, I do not!  But while we're asking questions, do you realize that this is a British car and my wife is driving . . . on the other side?"

I wish I could have posted the picture that was taken at the time of the incident.  It shows the French Cop talking with the inibriated man on the left side of the car.  Obviously, no steering wheel in front of the guy.  :D:D

I can't imagine calling any Lexus boring. I've found as I get older that there is a certain attraction to comfortable luxury. Don't get me wrong I still enjoy speed and handling but increasingly I prefer to not get the adrenaline pumping just going for groceries.

74? Your posts sure don't read that old. Nice that you can accommodate your wife. Another plus for the LS. I can't get my wife to ride with me in the Mustang.

    Hey, how about some pictures?
