You seem to be missing the adjusted CAP cost amount.
I'm assuming upfront charges are the DMV fees and first payment, but don't see the $925 acquisition fee or CAP reduction tax in there.

    What term and mileage?

Typically, demos get all the same incentives as a new vehicle, but with a lower residual to account for the current mileage. Hopefully, a lot lower selling price to make up for the lower residual.

Are the MF and residual same for X5 40e?

Yes, all X5's have the same MF and residual.

I got my 2017 X5 this weekend, thanks Michaell for the assistance. I got 10.8% off MSRP before the $3k lease incentive, with MF .00152. I got the impression that there may have been little more negotiation room in there (due to zero pushback) but I did not pursue much since I was satisfied with what I was getting in terms of price and build.

My advice to buyers would be to figure out what you want to pay, then email at least 3 dealers with a specific stock number and your specific offer. I sent them my lease worksheet. Ask them to not contact you unless they can meet the price. The place where I leased my prior car would not budge on the .00192 MF, they were polite but said MF 0.00152 was not possible even if I went to other dealers. I found another dealer that agreed over email without any pushback (and gave me extra $500).

Need an advise on following deal:
    2017 X5 e40

    MSRP $68,445
    Price after discount $62,100
    BMW/DEALER CASH $6000
    Lease Term 36/10

    Total Out of Pocket: $2,988.54
    $669.54 first month payment
    $399 Doc Fee
    $925 Acquisition Fee
$345 DMV Fee (estimated NY DMV fees)
$650 Tax on Acq fee, doc fee, and Rebate. This is new to me ???

NY Tax - 8.875% rolled into monthly payments

    $669.54 per month

Do these numbers add up? $650 taxes on Acquisition fee, doc fees and rebate seems unreasonable.
    Thank you in advance!

I just went and demoed a new/demo 2k miles driven X-drive 3.5i X5 with driver assistance / plus, premium package, luxury seating, harmon sound and Lighting package. MSRP is $71320. Quoted price is $62064 (Discount of $6256 and rebate of $3000) . I see that most of the prices have a substantial discount. Is what I am getting a good deal looking at the fact that it is a demo car with 2k miles? Are there any leasing specials that bring the price down? I know I can negotiate but I want to know if there's a figure I can shoot for.

To sum up, the price quoted is Invoice less $3000 less $2000 for the 2k miles.

We don't track pricing - read back through the last page or two of this thread to see what others have been able to negotiate.

If those three items are $7324, then that's multiplied by the tax rate. Like any other tax calculation.

Ask the dealer for the adjusted CAP cost. If you are off by $10/mo, then there is a $350 difference, somewhere.

Hmm, did my post just disappear when I edited?
Can you please give us the MF and RV for 2017 40e 15k and 10k for 36mo?

The price above seems really good but there are mark ups in DMV and Doc fees, I don't think dealers are allowed to mark up doc fees in NY.

    .00152 and 55% / 58%

Doc fee is capped at $75 in NY. Can't speak to DMV costs.

Thank you, looks like RV's are same on 40e and 30i. However 40e must be getting lots of government tax breaks and incentives making it an interesting choice.

Looks that way. End of the model year, inventory dwindling, not as much incentive to move what's left on the lot.

I get $840/mo with my homegrown lease calc, with those prices. 57% and .00152 MF

But, the math for an owners choice financing may be a little different. Dealer may also be marking up the MF or interest rate to get that higher payment amount.

Are the Residual / MF for the e40 the same as the 35i? Interested in '17 e40 10k/36 month.

Found a stray one out of state that might be worth a look...

    Hi Micheall and kyfdx,
Could you help me understand something about lease-end payoff process.

In NY, I received a payoff quote of the balance + sales tax on balance.
I was told that I should not be paying taxes and my friend in CA showed me his pay off statement. Is that because in California you lease and pay taxes on sale price, but in NY you pay taxes on lease amount only?
I am not sure how in CA they didn't pay taxes when they bought the vehicle.

    Thanks in advance!

It's the other way around - for leases, CA taxes the monthly payment, whereas NY taxes the sum of the monthly payments and collects the money up front.

However, if you are buying out the lease, you'll pay sales tax again in either state, as I understand it.

Have a question. Looking at leasing a 2017 BMW X5. Will give more details once I got by the dealer. I pretty much understand the mechanics of calculating the monthly lease payment but how do I take into account the sales tax? I live in Florida and the sales tax is 6%? So for example, lets say MSRP on X5 is 55,000 and agreed upon sales price is 52,000. Then say there are rebates of 1,000 so that cost is 51,000. How do i take into account the sales tax and then fees (say there are destination fee of $895 and doc fees of $700 for total fees of $1,400). What number should I use to calculate the sales tax? Thank you

In Florida, the monthly payment is taxed, not the selling price or cap cost.

Thanks, but in NY we also pay sales tax on the monthly payments, it's just they want it upfront, so if you have to add it back in, it's a sum + interest basically. So in CA, it's not like that? They calculate the monthly payment+tax on top, no option to pay upfront?
He showed me his pay-off statement, there is no taxes listed. There is security deposit refund/deducted from buy-out, but no taxes. How could that be?

Correct - cannot pre-pay lease taxes in CA

Yes, in NY if you roll the taxes in the cap cost, you'll pay interest on it.

On the other hand, if you pre-pay the taxes at lease inception, then total the car, you won't get those taxes refunded to you.

So don't have a quote yet but have car with specs. How would I think about figuring lease payment on a 36 month lease/12,000 miles for a 2017 BMW x5 Sdrive35i in fort lauderdale, FL (6% sales tax)

Here is off the info dealer sent me
    MSRP- $55,500
    options:
    Driver assistance package- $1,400
    Premium package- $2,700
    Soft-close automatic doors- $600
    Aluminum running boards- $400
    Apple car play compatibility- $300

Then says Net Total- $60,900 but then there is a number that says total suggested price $61,895. Seems they are suggesting selling for $995 over the MSRP although this could just be a destination charge.

1.) What is a great deal to look for on this car?
2.) then I assume residual is 57% and with an over 800 credit score am assuming money factor is .00152
3.) How do you figure out what monthly payments would look like without knowing fees, etc involved?

If anyone can show me how to do that, would be greatly appreciated.

$61895 is with the destination charge (which is the number you need)
.00152 MF and 57% residual for 36/12 is correct, but dealer can markup the money factor for extra profit.
To calculate a lease, you need the selling price and adjusted CAP cost
$925 acq.fee. FL DMV fees shouldn't be over $500, but FL dealers are famous for egregious dealer fees. You just have to ask them for a complete breakdown of the numbers.

I live in Texas. I got a quote for leasing 2017 X5 sDrive35i and want to check to see if it's a good deal.

    MSRP: 61695.00
    Discount: 4,323.00
    Rebates: 4000
    Adjusted price: 53,372.00
    Tax: 3,335.75
    Doc fee: 157.25
    Processing fee: 4.75
    Convenience fee: 10.00
    License Fee: 148.25
    Title Fee: 33.00
    State Inspection: 7.00
    Acquisition Fee: 925.00
    Net Price: 57993.00
    Money Factor: 0.00191, Residual 58%
    12K/36 months= 762.00 per Month.

I have excellent credit, can the MF be negotiated down? I was told by one dealership that the MF is fixed and set by the dealership.
Thank you in advance for your suggestions and help.

So can anyone tell me if this is a good deal? It is a new 2017 BMW X5 Sdrive35i in fort lauderdale, FL (6% sales tax). I finally got all the details and am meeting the dealer tonight at 6:30 so would like to know ahead of time.

It is for a 36 mo/12,000 mile lease. Am being quoted $747 month.
    MSRP- $55,500
    Options
    Drivers assistance package- $1,400
    Premium package- $2,700
    Soft-close automatic doors- $600
    Aluminum runnnig boards- $400
    Apple Car Play Compatibility- $300

Then says Net Total is $60,900 and suggested retail price of $61,895. The Selling price is $53,800 and then the adj cap cost is $56,387 (bank fee, ta, title, tax, dealer fee and then 995 destination charge that increased the net total from $60,900 to $61,895).

Can someone show me how the lease is calculated to get to the $747? I am confused on a few things. I assume the residual of 57% is on the $60,900. So assuming 57% it would be $34,713. Then Depreciation charge would be Adj cap cost of ($56,387-$34,713)/36 for a monthly total of $602.06. Then rent charge would be Adj cap cost of $56,387 + residual of $34,713 times the money factor or .00152, (56,387 + 34,713) * .00152= $138.47 so total monthly pre-tax cost is $740.53. Is this close enough to the dealer quote of $747 or am i doing something wrong or is he using a slightly higher money factor (if so i estimate, .00159) or am i missing something.

Most importantly wonder if people think I am getting a really good deal. Thank you everyone for your help. Much appreciated.

Is it possible BMW FS expects him to pay taxes directly to DMV? He showed me his buy-out statement which is generated by BMWFS website when you request buy out, and it wasn't showing taxes.

Can't comment on the local expenses, but you are getting 13% off which is not bad.
Please review rest of the charges, usually Bank Fee, 1st Month and DMV charges will be payable at signing, but you can build Bank Fee in since interest rates are so low, it won't make a big difference, this way you have very little out of pocket.

There is a guide how to make your own calculator which Micheall posted a few times, or you can use
    https://www.edmunds.com/calculators/car-lease.html

If you are handy with excel, make your own calculator which is what I did because I didn't want to keep putting numbers on website which gets wiped every time.
    https://www.edmunds.com/car-leasing/calculate-your-own-lease-payment.html#formula

    Good luck.

I was thinking the same thing. It's possible that NY requires BMWFS to collect the sales tax, while CA does not. But, he would have to pay them to register the vehicle.

The base money factor from BMWFS is .00152. So, any markup over that is negotiable. (Doesn't mean they will agree, though). It's a $37/mo. difference.

How much is due at signing?

Thank you kyfdx for the reply.
The dealership confirmed that the MF .00191 is nonnegotiable and fixed.
The quoted monthly payment 12K/36mos- 762.00 is if I put 2500 down.
Since I'm in Texas, I have to pay the tax of price of the car. The dealership wants Taxes (3335.75)/Fees (1285.25)/First month payment (762) due at signing= 5383.00
I'm confused cause I'm doing the calculations and the numbers are not adding up. I thought the monthly payment was higher because taxes and fees were built in, so if I pay taxes and fees upfront shouldn't the monthly payment would be lower? This would be my first time leasing, I'm still learning the process.

Yeah.. with all that due at signing, the payment is way too high.
If you are paying all that upfront, the payment should be $659/mo, even with the marked up money factor.

When someone says something is "non-negotiable" when it's just their choice, you negotiate by contacting another dealer.
