Quick update. The 2017 truck is broken in. Our trip to the Southeast was 3218 miles. About 2700 was towing the 25' Airstream. At 3 weeks, it was our longest vacation ever. Plus, after living in 180 sq. feet, we are still married! We averaged 13.4 mpg. Considering the 6.2 L motor in the new 2017 Silverado, this is better mpg than the 5.3 in the 2014 truck. I bet the 8 speed transmission helped, too. BTW, we sold the 2004 camper to a couple from St. Louis during the trip. I priced it right so the money was better than our trade value, but a good $ deal for the buyer. They were supposed to meet us in Vermont to pick it up, but their son's house caught fire the day they were going to leave to pick it up. So, I am going to tow it one more time and meet them about 1/2 way after Thanksgiving to get it gone before the new one come in. The new 30' Airstream is due the 1st week of December. My wife and I are already planning a cross country trip in September and will stop at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. Can't wait to see it. And, the extra +/-35 square feet will be appreciated!
WARNING: Every make is good until you have a major problem with it. We liked our Audi, until they treated us badly. We liked BMW, until the dealer valued our trade-in at $4000 below KBB (saying they had so many of them in stock), and I liked our VIZIO until we tried to use the SMART feature and it wouldn't work and then I got the run around and outright lies from their hopeless customer service department - who I am sure are told to get rid of any customers as quickly as you can, never admit it is the TVs fault. I had to test the equipment each time which takes about 40 minutes and I did it about 6 times before they admitted there was nothing they could do. Blame it on the cable company, blame it on Netflix, anything but their TV....when it was the TV. I told them I would never buy another one of their TVs again, which of course means nothing to them.
We have never had problems with our Samsungs, and all that I have said here is FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE.
I totally agree with you. Company shows its true colors when things inevitably go wrong, not when everything is peachy. If I buy something and it always performs well, I will try it again, of course, but it's expected. However, if I buy something and it does not perform as described, but the customer service addresses it properly and fixes it, then I'm much more impressed - with one qualifier that the failures do not happen too often.
Example of great customer experience: 1. Bought Keurig coffee machine. 14 months later (two months past official warranty expiration) it starts making short cups. Prompted remedies don't work. Call to their hotline, they send a new maker with new warranty, even extra discount 50% on the coffee pods, just like I would have bought it. 2. Bought Philips shaver with their Smartclean device. I like it, but it seems I'm the most unlucky person. This thing was broken right of the box, but I realized it too late to replace it in store - call customer service, after short Q&A protocol (did you try X, Y, and Z) sent a one. Repeat year later, different failure, but same effect. Repeat again another year later, different failure. I hope this one was the last time. I am somewhat less enthusiastic about the shaver, but he service is flawless.
Those are experiences that make customer. I bought more things from Philips for obvious reasons. Bought another Keurig machine for another use.
Then there are those others - you buy it and it's a crap shoot. Everything goes right and you're golden. Something goes wrong and you are left to fend for yourself.
The most glaring example is airlines. They're always as good as the next time the plane is late, luggage lost, flight canceled and they don't care. None of them really cares. However, some care even less than others. When you are overseas with a major airline and the flight is canceled/delayed, you'll most likely get on the next flight out, sometimes different route, sometimes you may have to wait a little longer, or spend 8 hours at the airport. At worst they'll put you in a hotel for a day or two. Same happens when you flying Norwegian, or go domestic with Spirit, or fly intra-Europe with WizzAir or Ryanair - you're simply buying a full fare ticket with some other airline to get to your destination, cause "next available flight" is in two weeks. However, if everything is OK with the flight, you may only complain about small space, but the low fare was part of that shortcoming.

Hey driver100, your buddy Billy F. Is up here selling 2016 ex rental Jeep Patriots with 42k miles. This is a specialty of his. My buddy who works for Hertz says they have a side lot just for the rentals going to him.
Since Hertz (at least this one) gets their cars at the end of each model year this 2016 probably only has 12 months of service. 42k miles in one year is a lot.

When I left it only had 500 miles on it. It was flawless and didn't use a drop of oil. Only problem was that the seats aren't really broken in. My [non-permissible content removed] got sore on 10 hour days!
Well, I just got a call from the owner of the tint company. I know him quite well since I have all my cars tinted there. He was unaware of the fact that one of his employees had damaged the left front end of my car until 4:30 PM. He was on a flight from Paris and when he landed, his secretary spoke to him.
He immediately called the local Mercedes dealer (2 miles from his shop) and spoke with the service manager whom he knows very well. My car is already at the shop. He told me that the front bumper (left side) was just pulled away from the front end with no damage to the metal on the car. They are pulling the bumper and will see if it can be realigned and placed back on the car and will make sure all the cameras, sensors, etc., are working as designed. If that cannot be done, they will have a new bumper air shipped in Thursday and will replace the current bumper. The current bumper was not cracked or badly scraped except for the very bottom
He said he is going over to the dealership first thing tomorrow morning to see the damage. He promised me that if I was not totally satisfied with the repair, he would take it back to the dealership and redo the repair.
There isn’t much more that I could ask from him - so long as the repairs are warranted for 4 years 50,000 miles - the new car warranty - which he said the dealership will agree to.
What a horrible day. It’s like one of my remaining children or my grandsons were gravely injured. It hurts me terribly!
@abacomike Holy [non-permissible content removed]... I would have lost my mind. I certainly hope the tint job is on the house after this. Best of luck for a seamless repair.

I am in deep depression! :@
It’s like I lost s child. The “child” is at the Mercedes dealership right now. The owner of the tint shop called me earlier. When he found out it was my car that was damaged, he was quite upset - we know each other quite well.
He promised me that he would make sure it is repaired perfectly. I hope he is right.
I will I’ll inspect the car microscopically.
Definitely a painful way to get a free 3M Crystalline tint. I’d prefer paying the $430.!

Really sorry to see that Mike. I'm sure they will fix it like new, but I understand your despair.
After complaining about the reverse automatic braking on the new Legacy, it saved my bacon tonight.
I was leaving Dairy Queen with two 10 year-old girls. As you would expect they had my entire attention. As I was backing out of the parking spot the brakes suddenly and forcefully came on. It stopped the car immediately. There was a black pickup parked there that I couldn't see. Normally I scope out what is parked behind me, but the girls were nuts. They just had ice cream.
Going to buy a second, larger TV for our family room in the new house. Looking at roughly a 65” TV for the room. Looking to spend less than $2000 and would ideally like something that is 4K with a 120 hz refresh rate.
What do you all recommend? The Samsung MU8000 and MU9000 series look highly recommended but the weird connect box thing apparently bothers some folks.
I bought a Vizio in December of 2016 with surround sound speakers including sound bars, 4K, etc. It’s phenomenal and also made in the USA. Their consumer hot line has helped immensely in helping me set up Netflix and WiFi with Bluetooth. I suggest you give it a look see.

Funny you would say that. We use a highly rated Indy Appliance repair guy and as we are thinking of upgrading everything I asked him if there were any brands to avoid. He said DO NOT buy anything Samsung!
So, go figure...?
I have never heard anyone say to avoid Samsung. For a time they owned most of the rights used by most TV makers. I think he had an ax to grind.......Samsung is usually on the recommended lists and gets high ratings. I have never been disappointed with a Samsung product.....I trust them more than any other name when it comes to TVs.

Funny you should mention Billy F. I was listning to a really good FM station here...plays one hour of music w/o commercials, but then the first commercial that came on was Billy F. I hit the mute button and I thought, what a wonderful invention.
42k miles is almost the life for a Patriot. I wonder if they were Hertz rentals or rented by a big company who put on big miles every day...it sounds like a lot of miles for a Hertz or Avis type car rental place.

What a great feature! The 2014 C250 doesn't even have a rear camera....do I ever miss that. Once you get used to it it is very hard backing in without it....can't see the lines, can't see where the car ends......I feel like I am one of the Waltons. I miss blind spot too.....I think because there is no noise or light I can change lanes. I think I can keep backing up because there is no noise,,,,and there won't be until I hit the car behind me.
Mike has every warning device known to mankind and even has a perfume fragrance maker...but, the kid didn't hear a warning that he was going to hit the front bumper!

He admitted that he did hear the beeps and ringing tones. He just didn’t know what they meant!
That's certainly a survivor. Imagine, a 5.0 with 150 hp and 2:73 rear. Must be embarrassing to get your doors blown off by shopping carts. Considering the dried out parts that must need replacing I'd say it's at top bid right now at $1995.
Suprised it has an airbag. My 91 Oldsmobile didn't.

I saw that market place and have heard other stories about appliance problems, mainly because they didn't have a service network in place. I was just referring to TVs when I said they are considered to be top tier in that department.

Because the seller has no idea if it ever rolled over. I would bet it has. My FIL leased one once. He ran it to 130k miles and turned it back in at end of lease claiming it was only 30k.

Does the dealer have another S450? I'd ask how much he'd trade for. I would rather have a check debited from my account and a pristine new car over driving a car where I am waiting for something to go wrong with the repair after the front bumper had been ripped loose and then put back on.
I'm looking at another 2016 Scion iA now, this one in Everett. Selling for $13,334 with 28,526 miles on it. It's red (Toyota calls it Pulse) and has the backup camera and all the goodies and it is a manual 6-speed. It is a one-owner and passes all of the checks. shifty - if you could run this VIN# and see how it checks out from your end that would be great. Or if anyone else wants to check - I don't know what program you're using or I'd just pop it in and check it out. The VIN# is 3MYDLBZV9GY102725.

No accidents on the Autocheck. $12k is ALL THE MONEY, though. And that is probably generous given the stick shift. I personally wouldn't break $11.5k on it.

And the dealer didn't notice? Wouldn't that be considered fraud? I wonder what the next owner would do when parts that should have lasted 100k miles started breaking?

That's the story as relayed to me. This was long before I met his daughter. I imagine it would be hard to believe someone drove 130k in 3 years, so the dealer didn't question it. I think fraud would have to involve a paper trail. I have no idea if an odometer statement is filled out when returning a leased vehicle.

I don't think so. The carfax report goes back far enough to show that the car was driven very little. Add to that the clean undercarriage and good condition of the interior and it looks like a car that has been driven only a few hundred miles a ear for 27 years.

My wife thinks it is good for me to not have nanny devices some of the time....keeps me in practice - you really have to be on your toes without all the devices.
When you get used to anything that makes life easier, it is hard to go without. I like the C250, but we will see where we are at next November when the warranty is up.
I wonder if you take a drivers test with a self parking car if you can use the device to parallel park.

Thanks, all. I was particularly interested in the Samsung QLED and LG OLED display TVs, but I went to Best Buy the other day and if you look at any content on them that is less than 4K HD resolution, there is pretty significant motion blur on them. As I am particularly susceptible to motion sickness, it did not seem worth it.
Costco is running a special on the Samsung MU8000 65" 4K HDTV for $1280 with 2 years of Costco warranty and an additional 3 year warranty from Square Trade. Seems like a good balance of $ for picture quality.
That sounds like a good deal at Cosco. You probably know this, but many new TVS are sold without a tuner. They just use the cable box tuner. No problem unless you want to use it without a cable box, etc., just be aware that they won't work without a cable box.
15k "indicated miles" does not mean it has not rolled over once or twice.
90/91 Crown Vics and Grand Marquis are typically known to have bad odometer gears as well. It may not have 115K but could certainly have more than 15k and the gears never fixed
Most Fords got a driver's airbag in 1990
I love those models (an 89 was my first car), but that Woodrose over Brown has got to be the worst color they ever put on them
The 2016 Scion iA I'm looking at is a one-owner lease return? And they put 25,000 miles on it? Interesting. I am liking the Pulse red for the iA. Looks good on it.
brozen - thanks for the iA quote. I will offer $11,500 for it. 25,000 miles is barely even broken in, too.
BMW FS requires a Lessee to sign a Federal odo statement at lease turn-in.

25000 miles is at least 2 years of average driving....gone, and it is the best 2 years, and warranty years. I think new is worth looking into...just to compare. Might even get a better interest rate on a new one.

That is good to know. We have a box on our main TVs, but, sometimes we may get a new one and want to use the main one as a secondary TV, in which case, a built in tuner would be nice to have.
Mike has every warning device known to mankind and even has a perfume fragrance maker...but, the kid didn't hear a warning that he was going to hit the front bumper!
He admitted that he did hear the beeps and ringing tones. He just didn’t know what they meant!
Wow, not the sharpest tool in the shed- I'm surprised they let an idjit like that around high-dollar vehicles.
"High-dollar vehicles"? I wouldn't want that imbecile near Mrs. j's Subie.

This is a perfect example of why I hold my breath every time I take my car in for any kind of service including state inspections and buying tires. People have told me I'm waaay too paranoid about checking all 20 lug nuts every time, before I leave the lot, when the tires have to be removed.
I guess you can say being paranoid is some kind of a brain problem but mine is nowhere near as bad as the guy that messed up Mike's car.

Example of great customer experience:

Since Hertz (at least this one) gets their cars at the end of each model year this 2016 probably only has 12 months of service. 42k miles in one year is a lot.

42k miles is almost the life for a Patriot. I wonder if they were Hertz rentals or rented by a big company who put on big miles every day...it sounds like a lot of miles for a Hertz or Avis type car rental place.

I don't think so. The carfax report goes back far enough to show that the car was driven very little. Add to that the clean undercarriage and good condition of the interior and it looks like a car that has been driven only a few hundred miles a ear for 27 years.
