Well, I am sitting at the tint place while he tints my car. I examined the entire front end and I cannot see any blemishes, scrapes, body seam distortions, or paint problems. it looks like it never had damage. I also checked the cameras and sensors to make sure everything is working properly. All I have to check out now is the adaptive cruise and auto steering which I will do tomorrow.
So he is putting Crystalline 60% heat reduction tint on the side windows and rear window.
It cost him $890 to have the car repaired. I have the service receipt from the Mercedes dealer so the work will be warranted.
I didn’t sleep at all last night. I was shaking so bad from the stress. I’ve been through so much this past 18 months - it has begun to wear me down.
Thanks to all you guys for helping me get through this.
That's certainly a survivor. Imagine, a 5.0 with 150 hp and 2:73 rear. Must be embarrassing to get your doors blown off by shopping carts. Considering the dried out parts that must need replacing I'd say it's at top bid right now at $1995.
Suprised it has an airbag. My 91 Oldsmobile didn't.
15k "indicated miles" does not mean it has not rolled over once or twice.
90/91 Crown Vics and Grand Marquis are typically known to have bad odometer gears as well. It may not have 115K but could certainly have more than 15k and the gears never fixed
Most Fords got a driver's airbag in 1990
I love those models (an 89 was my first car), but that Woodrose over Brown has got to be the worst color they ever put on them
The odo gears on my 95 Lincoln went at 96k but by that time they didn't make replacements.

Well, did you at least get a discount for the tint job? Happy to hear you are satisfied with the bumper cover repair.
It's easy for us guys in here to talk about car problems but in your case, your health is the most important thing to us.
After all it's only a car, and in your case, you won't have it too long anyway.

Jmonroe - your words are most kind and sincerely appreciated.
Speaking of used cars, rust, etc., many people believe that South Florida is the worst place to buy a used car because of the salt air which is a major cause of rust. I’ve lived here for almost 20 years and the only area(s) where I’ve seen cars with rust on them was within 3-4 miles of the beach. I live 8-9 miles west of the ocean on the west side of the Florida Turnpike and never run into rust cars.
After a heavy rain, the next day I have seen rust on brake rotors but once the brakes are applied, the rust is gone.
The difficult part of buying a clean used car down here is making sure the car was parked several miles from the ocean.

Mike, your car should be fine. A Mercedes dealer will fix a minor bump like that and the car will be as good as new. You have been through a lot worse than that....better some repairable damage to the car rather than repairable or un-repairable damage to you.
Still, what a thing to happen.......what did the kid think, the beeps and alarms were a new video game that came with the new models?

Man, what a suspicious bunch.
The Carfax at the time of the accident in 2005 showed 12000 miles, and other entries subsequently show small increases in the odometer reading. So the gears were working, unless the problem with them was intermittent slippage.

You've been away from the northeast too long. We bring rust to an art form. Nothing I've ever seen in Florida comes even close. A car parked in the surf would probably look better than one that's been through a few winters of our salt and sand with a little bit of beet juice stickum thrown in.

Saw an example of Karma in action today. Took my wife shopping and found all the handicapped spots taken (we have a placard). The next closest spot was two spaces down but some knucklehead in an older Explorer had parked over the line. After that there were no spaces for quite a distance so I squeezed in and grumbled because it was difficult for my wife to get out. Then I noticed that someone before us had keyed the entire side of his vehicle. It was apparent that he had done this before.
I guess it's true that you can't fix stupid.

On the topic of low mile cars here's one I would consider even if the asking price is a little high. Is 1000 miles a year enough to keep everything limber?

I filled up the fuel tank in the i3 this morning for the first time since 10/28/16; it took 1.3 gallons.
What do you use to keep the gas from gumming up?
Add a bottle of STABIL if the gas is over a year old.......at $8 a bottle savings might be less than it seems. At a gallon a year you might have the same gas in the tank for 10 years!

Going to buy a second, larger TV for our family room in the new house. Looking at roughly a 65” TV for the room. Looking to spend less than $2000 and would ideally like something that is 4K with a 120 hz refresh rate.
What do you all recommend? The Samsung MU8000 and MU9000 series look highly recommended but the weird connect box thing apparently bothers some folks.
I bought a Vizio in December of 2016 with surround sound speakers including sound bars, 4K, etc. It’s phenomenal and also made in the USA. Their consumer hot line has helped immensely in helping me set up Netflix and WiFi with Bluetooth. I suggest you give it a look see.
WARNING: Every make is good until you have a major problem with it. We liked our Audi, until they treated us badly. We liked BMW, until the dealer valued our trade-in at $4000 below KBB (saying they had so many of them in stock), and I liked our VIZIO until we tried to use the SMART feature and it wouldn't work and then I got the run around and outright lies from their hopeless customer service department - who I am sure are told to get rid of any customers as quickly as you can, never admit it is the TVs fault. I had to test the equipment each time which takes about 40 minutes and I did it about 6 times before they admitted there was nothing they could do. Blame it on the cable company, blame it on Netflix, anything but their TV....when it was the TV. I told them I would never buy another one of their TVs again, which of course means nothing to them.
We have never had problems with our Samsungs, and all that I have said here is FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE.
Funny you would say that. We use a highly rated Indy Appliance repair guy and as we are thinking of upgrading everything I asked him if there were any brands to avoid. He said DO NOT buy anything Samsung!
So, go figure...?
I have never heard anyone say to avoid Samsung. For a time they owned most of the rights used by most TV makers. I think he had an ax to grind.......Samsung is usually on the recommended lists and gets high ratings. I have never been disappointed with a Samsung product.....I trust them more than any other name when it comes to TVs.
My appliance guy was talking about appliances and not televisions. I hope he is wrong since our son has ALL Samsung stuff. It's been a couple of years and so far no problems!
brozen - what value would you put on a 2016 Scion iM with 7,856 miles on it? It's a one-owner stick shift standard transmission. Looks very clean in pictures.

One of my BIL's had a Samsung tv and it gave him trouble. It got fixed under extended warranty, but he now switched to Sony. My SIL has a Vizio and has had trouble with it too. One of my kids has my last 2 Sony flat screens. I bought the older 40 inch in 2006 and it had a problem which got fixed under warranty, but has been fine since. The 46 incher I bought in 2012 and it has had no problems. In the basement I have an 2000 32 inch tube job. It weighs close to 200 pounds and rarely gets used, so I'm not in a hurry to put it in the wheelbarrow to remove it.

Put yourself in my place. You finally got the car you have lusted over for many, many years. You have 151 miles on it. You go to a tint place and an employee not only scrapes the bottom of the left lower fender, but also pulls the bumper away from the fender 2-3 inches. I was totally crushed! It was like one of my children was seriously injured so that he couldn’t walk.
Yes - it’s just a car - it can be replaced - but it still hurts real bad.
The Mercedes dealer removed the bumper, replaced some brackets and a chrome piece, and then aligned the lower bumper and replaced it on the car using new clips. I can’t tell if was damaged and all the sensors, cameras and radar beams are operating normally. The service manager said this happens frequently to cars down here in Florida where 99% of all parking is pull in to a parking stoop. This S450 has the $6000 AMG sport package which includes lower front and side body moldings. So extra care must be taken when pulling into a spot. I will raise the car using the air suspension system every time I park.
I just pray the front end is adequately repaired. When I drive up to my brother’s next week for Thanksgiving, I’ll find out.

25000 miles is at least 2 years of average driving....gone, and it is the best 2 years, and warranty years. I think new is worth looking into...just to compare. Might even get a better interest rate on a new one.
I just texted the dealer in Everett. The '16 Scion iM I wanted is an automatic tranny. Drat. The little blue xA has 148,000 miles - but it's a Toyota. I loved my 2006 test drive of an xA. Absolutely loved it. I'm texting right now with them - if they'll deal with me I'll deal with them. My sister lives in Bothell, which is only about 10 miles from there. I'll leave early Friday and make a day of western Washington-ing it.
The Mrs. might even come along for the fun!
In all honesty the dark blue 2006 Scion would be a ball ta drive but it's got a tad over 148,000 miles on it. Yikes. High mileage. I'll see what I can shake out of 'em. Be a trip ta head back to Everett, WA, again. That's where I helped build Boeing 767 jetliners. Great company ta work for - great benefits. I guess Rodland Toyota is a great car dealer - I will work to get a free maintenance package or at least reduced cost - gives me an excuse ta head to Seattle and visit my sister.

Nice explanation. My one negative thought is.....it sounds relatively complicated...more things that could go wrong. I give you credit for going where few men have gone before...it is great technology, personally, I don't have to be on the leading edge of anything.
Having a Volt is a good ice breaker or conversation starter.

If you wanted to go on a 300 mile trip, how do you do it? 50 miles on battery, 100 miles on gas, and then how do you do the next 150 miles?
Iluv, are you seriously thinking about spending more money to trade your soul for a 12 YO, 150K Scion? That costs more than they will give you for the trade? That really sounds like a strange plan!

The truth Mike. Someone bumped my wife's Forester a while ago. I just popped loose part of the bumper cover back on. It didn't even need new clips. You can't tell anything happened.

stick - shifty probably knows where I'm coming from here - the little 2006 Scion xA is a ball ta drive. I loved my test drive but never followed up interest in it because of a certain 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS that took over my mind.
The reasoning here is ghastly savings and fun driving times. I know, money always has ta get involved. What will happen is they'll show me a new iA, new Corolla, new iM and the little iA I really want is going ta knock my socks off on Friday. Don't worry, stick. I'm like a kid in a candy store - but, this time I will not bow out and buy an automatic! The 2016 Scion iA can be worked on by any Toyota dealer but it's an authentic Scion product. It's a one-off! How cool is that?
shifty - did you not love your Scion xA?

I'd much rather have your Kia. You also have negative equity right now so that is not a $5k Scion. I forget what numbers you are working with but even just $3k negative is putting you in a 150k-mile car for $8k. Then what? Finance it for 3 years. I'd much rather have your Kia. You also have negative equity right now so that is not a $5k Scion. I'm not trading in on the 2006 Scion xA, I'm trading in on the 2016 Scion iA. I looked up NADA blue book values on my Kia today. It's worth $6,000 according to them. I'll demand $6,000 in trade and just finance the Scion iA for it's price. If I offer $12,000 and their Finance Manager insists on lowballing me - I'll bend and let the Kia go for $5,995. And they can tack $1,000 on to the iA financing. Then, because Toyota values depreciate slower than Kia values I'll be back side up within a year or two.
And, I'll have a sporty little red Scion iA that I absolutely love that will only have 28,000 miles on it. Or, if I'm at the 45,000 mark in two years I'll have to wait another year to right-side up. No, guys, I'm not going to trade for the old xA. I will probably take it for a spin, though.
This is a great review of the 2016 Scion iA from someone who appreciates the fact that the car is basically a Mazda 2 with a big 'ole Toyota schnozz in front that has so much value built in to it's ridiculous. Value in the car, not so much in the front schnozz.
I don't usually like dealer plateholders but I like how Rodland Toyota's neon pink looks against my their 2016 Scion iA's front piano black grille.
I get so excited about cars, that's all. Man, I should work in the automotive field. Seriously.
Iluvmysephia, I know the feeling! In our world of exciting things, there are males for females to get excited about; there females for males to get excited about; and then there are cars for everyone to excited about. At my age, it’s s toss-up - nah, who am I kidding- it’s just cars now!

I think I can make a deal we can both live with. Remember, manual tranny cars are not selling. Old Scion's especially. I am going to go test drive and see if my numbers will work - at times my numbers are too thin for them to stomach and, if that's the case, I'll grab my Kia keys and head east. To me, to not try would be failing with a capital 'F'.
Mike, I think you and I would make good business partners. I know you're retired, but, still. My point in all this is that numbers and money do run the ship, but, and I believe it's a butt the size of Refrigerator Perry's big tailpipe, sometimes good old fashioned desire and emotion are what's most important to a car buyer.
I have a great little Kia and I dearly love Kia. But Scion has built such a fine little motorcar in the iA (actually, the xB, xA, and tC are no slouches, nor is the newer FR-S) that Kia is being given a run for their money here. I was eyeing an apple green Mazda2 in Alamogordo in 2014 and this Scion iA is the 2016 Mazda CX-3 in sedan form. I know the front end is rather...well, unsightly in some people's eyes. I like it. I could go on all night about why I want to get this Scion iA, but, you guys remember all the posts back in 2016 from me just before I drove west to Denver to try and trade? I don't need to bore you all with the same information.
Where is Mrs. iluv in all of this? She's doing her stuff. She's being my beautiful, loving wife. She's taking excellent care of our Akita Chow, Pomeranian, our 11 year old blind cat Matty and our vivacious 11 year old cat Casper. She's supporting me in my new job in Wenatchee. She is an excellent cook and she is researching houses we'd like ta buy over here. We'll need ta get started around January - February to be able to make an offer on a home and have it move-in ready in time for us. She's busy doing her stuff. But she doesn't know cars. I do. And I want to make a trade.
If a dealer tells me I'm full of stinky snot and that I must leave, I'll smile at him with a Gary Payton smile and say "have a great night." But ta never, ever try, gentlemen, that would be a failure. And Gary Payton may not be the best guard in the history of the NBA, but no one could ever accuse him of being a quitter. And I'm not one either.
Mike, after all you have made it through, you should have just laughed yourself to sleep over a piddling little fender scrape.
It really sucks. I hope it’s fixed right. Even with my way cheaper cars i would be a wreck. But I’m curious — if you lusted after it for many years, why buy the BMW a year ago?
Mike I understand completely. It's like somebody abusing your baby. A new car is only perfect until the first ding. Totally emotional and irrational but there it is.

I'd never buy a car with that milage unless it was for under $1000. Even toyotas wear out.

It cost him $890 to have the car repaired. I have the service receipt from the Mercedes dealer so the work will be warranted.

Man, what a suspicious bunch.
The Carfax at the time of the accident in 2005 showed 12000 miles, and other entries subsequently show small increases in the odometer reading. So the gears were working, unless the problem with them was intermittent slippage.

One of my kids has my last 2 Sony flat screens. I bought the older 40 inch in 2006 and it had a problem which got fixed under warranty, but has been fine since. The 46 incher I bought in 2012 and it has had no problems.

stick - shifty probably knows where I'm coming from here - the little 2006 Scion xA is a ball ta drive.
