Yes, that's an FB Vauxhall Victor just above the back of the Skoda Octavia. There is another Vauxhall - a Late E series Velox - two lanes back above the Skoda i.e. directly below the two Cortinas.

Also we have a Renault Dauphine beyond the Biemans van - just see the tail sticking out.

The Ford Thames /Anglia van with windows (above the Land Rover) is an export or foreign built version as we didn't get that version here - vans with windows were taxed as cars in UK so more expensive. Elsewhere in Europe different versions were sold - not just Ford but BMC and others did this too.

There are a number of Opels in this shot - whole variety of different ones.

Just at the top above the Ponton MB and behind the Triumph Herald is a Ford Taunus and the trim on the side makes it a 12M of the last RWD type - 1959-62.

Anybody guess the dark saloon beyond the front wing of the Ford Galaxie ?

I think the car following the Victor FB, which is out of sot except one headlight may be a Glas Goggomobile 600/700/Isar

Striking how few FWD cars in this shot - the Taunus 12M was the first FWD Ford, and of course there was that 2CV but no Minis or Renault 4s, no big Citroens ... Ten years later the split on any European road would have been more like 50/50 and by 1980 would be 75% fwd, I would expect.

You have four makes - VW, Renault, Skoda and Fiat - in this shot with rear engines...

EDIT - actually I take that back about the FWD- there is a Renault 4 - it is off shot to the right ahead of the white VW with the roof rack.

Sonny and Cher are relaxing on a pair of customized Pontiac Tempests which somehow got the same plate numbers! The shape of the windshield leads me to think they were originally 1963 Tempest Lemans that looked like this in stock form>

Those are from the movie which Sonny & Cher made. They are Mustangs.
Can't think of the movie's name right now.

I like how the Sonny and Cher Mustangs appear to have the flush/composite style headlights just starting to become a trend in Europe at the time.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,760
Car near the Galaxie, hmm. Shape of it almost reminds me of a Hino or similar unusual early Japanese car, but I doubt that is it. The C-pillar is really familiar, if it had a kink, I could see it being related to BMW. But it isn't coming to me.

Also by the location, I am surprised at the lack of DAF.

    I'm pretty sure it's a Simca 1500 (might be the newest car)>

Its a Simca 1500 - the 1300 had a different grille on the original model...

  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,682
Doh! I meant to type 1500 and it came out 1300. I'm not having a good day first I mistake S&C's Mustangs for Tempests now this! :'(:'(

The Simca 1500 was intro'ed in 1963 so it could be the newest car in the pic. The Galaxie is also a '63 but they didn't change the Simca for '64 AFAIK so it could be MY '64 but I s'pose so could some of the VWs, M-Bs and Volvos.

A couple of the fintails appear to have the driver's mirror on the door rather than fender, which I believe would mean 1963 or later.

Ferrari 308 GTB (not sure if an "i" or if possible to tell in a pic), color name is "Chiaro" blue, unknown year, assumed Euro spec.

I love blue cars, but that car should be red.   My .02 of course

    You're right on, it's a 1980 Ferrari 308GTBi
but it's not a Eurospec car, it was originally sold here.

You're entitled to your opinion but IMO Race Red is a bit of a cliche on Ferraris, particularly the more popular models. This type of neon Blue has become very popular in the past few yrs but must've really stood out in the 80s.

I like the blue on that car. A silvery blue would be even better, I agree that red is over-played on such a car, White also works, at least for me (especially on a Testarossa).

I assumed a US car would have bumpers more like park benches or railroad ties. Maybe a conversion? These cars weren't worth much for a long time, but in this speculative new Belle Epoque, values have behaved like real estate prices in popular Seattle-area neighborhoods.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,177
Other ‘80 308s have the same bumper, so Ferrari must have cleaned them up by then.

Front row is a diverse place - big 60 Ford Fairlane at left, Renault Caravelle beside it, then a 65 Chevy sedan, then another Renault (R8), then a 64 Chevelle/Malibu, then a 65 Ford, and a 63 Impala at far right.

In the second to last row I spot the unusual too - a Saab (likely a 96), Fiat 600, International Scout (doors open), and to the right, a Bentley Mark VI, making the 60 Lincoln at far right look normal.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,682
The black Jag saloon next to the (65ish) Caddy on the left is too big to be a MkII. It's likely to be a Mk.IX

    I spy two square Birds, a 60 and a 58/59. Plus, a 52 Ford.

Flattops appear to be a 59 Buick and a 59 Olds. Lincoln by itself is a 58-60, always have problems distinguishing the specific year on those. 61 Kenosha Cadillac (Rambler).
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,760
I just noticed the 63 Impala is parked by someone who probably ended up in a BMW a few decades later :)

Plenty of unusual cars in the shot, surprised there's no MB, but I guess I got my fintail content in that pic from Belgium.

Nope, you guys need to learn up on your 60s sports cars. That thar is a '65-'67 Triumph TR-4A, the car from which the TR-250/TR5PI was derived. I nursed a 1966 example for a couple of years when my bro' came back from Vietnam and glommed onto a '68 TR-250 which was a better car in almost every way (except the dash wasn't as nice). I soldiered on w the TR-4A until '71 when I flipped it for a new Fiat 124 Spider.

My '66 looked identical to the red car shown, right down to the white steel wheels (I painted 'em silver). Owning it wasn't entirely negative...there's something about a car that needs you as much as you need it...more in my case because I didn't commute by car.

I finally jumped into the 21st century and got a Fire Stick, now I can watch old movies from my childhood. Here's a car from one. This looks easy, but has a couple special traits:

Don't know what might be special but isn't that an early 80s Mercury Marquis? It appears to have a sunroof of some kind dunno if OEM or aftermarket.

Yeah, those are Aussie plates on it.

I noticed the sunroof, and don't most of them have partial rear fender skirts? It looks odd without them.

72 Ford LTD, or specifically at that time, a Galaxie LTD. Export model for Oz, I believe those were built in Canada. RHD and the large sunroof are definitely things for the local market. Through the 70s and even a little later I think, RHD American cars were sold at least in small numbers down unda.

Pic is from the wonderfully bad "BMX Bandits", a huge nostalgia piece for those who of a certain age who were into it.

That's the one. It was fun to see again after so many years, I probably watched it a couple hundred times when I was a kid, as we taped it from cable TV back in the day. A number of unusual cars in it, too.
