That's an Ontario plate, so something Canadian or allowed to be imported to Canada.

    Some sort of Nissan?

Honestly, I'm a bit stumped. Could just be all the mods messing with me, but there are little details that say NOT a Volvo, such as the tilt of the grille and the rounded corners of the windshield. But all the hood and door creases are correct to the 850, I believe.

I think the wagon is a Nissan Stagea. BC plates, because Canada has more logical private import laws than Murka.

    Shifty's car is a Skoda 110 coupe.

    ok, you win.

1997 Nissan Stagea autech 260rs. And they certainly borrowed heavily from Volvo styling.

Right about the Stagea, I think it's a '98. I'd never heard of it before, too bad they didn't sell it here.

Yup, the 1955 Chrysler C-300 is considered the original Muscle Car. It also is a case of tripping over its nomenclature. They start with the '55 C-300 then go to the 300B in '56 and then to the 1957 300C. Pretty confusing IMHO.

I really like those cars. Well-made, nice clean styling for the time, and very capable.

Not sure I'd agree about the "muscle car" business---this car is still a big boat. It wasn't a down-sized anything.

I guess we have different ideas of what a "Muscle Car" is. It's a term that came into prominence almost a decade after the introduction of the Letter 300s when the GTO was introduced so it came to mean a big engine in an intermediate car. The GTO and its many imitators worked on the "no substitute for cubic inches" theory embraced by the hot-rodders of the era.

The C300 did have performance enhancements not seen in other big sedans of the era. Perhaps I should have said "first of the factory hot rods".

Well there was the 1955 Chevy "Power Pack" option, but it didn't put out 300 HP. It was a lighter car, though, with a short-stroke engine. I would venture to say that a drag race 0-60 would be neck and neck between the two. The "books" say 0-60 in 10.2 for the Chrysler and 10.3 for a stickshift Belair.

Or the non-SUV, SUV. Rear seats don't fold down to load anything, no place for a roof rack.

However, you can show your passengers "Look Ma, no hands!" or stay up late and watch for updates.

I don't get how Tesla made something so ugly compared to their previous designs. Oh well.

They might be numerous in Seattle but I can count fingers on one hand for every one I've seen and have a couple left over. How did they manage to make an SUV look like a Korean compact.?

Heck, there's a red one in my workplace garage, I see it every day :)

I don't have the love for the design had by others. It's a big egg to me, and the S and 3 are different sized eggs. The way I see it, with a Tesla, you are buying a remarkable powertrain, and the rest is a free gift, sometimes the free shows. Dull pseudo-modern design perfect for being parked in front of a PNW mcmodern house, inconsistent build quality, interior suitable for a car of half the price.

I think the original S is a handsome car. Not so much since they did away with the grille.

I agree about the grille. It reminds me of the girl without a mouth in "Twilight Zone The Movie".

I am probably jaded both by dislikes for the tax break, and the local faithful drivers, who seem to combine the worst stereotypes of Prius and BMW drivers.

The S has nice proportions. They did a good job on that one. The rest? Not so much. Interiors on Teslas need a definite upgrade as well, all across the board.

I think so too, the same is true of the Model 3; eliminating the grille leaves a car with no "face" which isn't attractive to most people. Designers know this so they put grilles on most cars even though they aren't functionally necessary any more (most cooling air is taken in from under the car).

Every now and then someone comes up w a grille-less design that works (see Porsche 356/911, Chevrolet Corvair I/II)

I don't understand Tesla doing away with the grille. I know it is electric, but I'd think electronics still benefit from airflow.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,659
If only the Tesla had looked like the Fisker Karma, much cooler design IMO.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Ironic that they are now putting gas engines in the older Karma, as a retro-fit.
