I think I see a "Fairlady" script, that's what I'll go with. The plate helps with that too. I will guess late 50s, interesting that it is LHD.

In the background left of the clump of palm trees, near a light post, I think I see a Porsche 356. Opel Rekord Caravan in front of the Stude.

Nice shot of that AA Astroliner! btw, I think the latest AA livery makes planes look like they've got a fat [non-permissible content removed]. Looks like a Western Airlines Convair behind it and a couple of golden tailed Continental Boeings, 707 and a 720 I think. Until the composites on the Airbus, AA was a big believer that minimal paint not only saved painting costs, but increased fuel economy. Most of the other carriers felt the paint protected the body and didn't require as much polishing of the aluminum fuselage. I haven't a clue personally. Suspect it was all more of an image thing that airlines tried to do with their respective liveries. Thanks for the picture Texases. I miss the golden years of aviation.

The old version is infinitely superior to the new. I always liked the polished fuselage and the old logo is a great, timeless design.

That's it Stick, it'a a 1960 Datsun Fairlady Sports 1200/SPL212 and it's very rare (233 built). Does anyone know if Nissan still uses the Fairlady name for JDM cars?

Does that fuselage insignia between the American logo and the cockpit remind you of Greyhound bus???

Did they sell Fairlady's in the US that early or was the 1600 the first entry?

Ha! I know this one, because it is either my family namesake or a model close to it. A mid-'50s Simca Vedette Versailles, one of the later variations of which was called the Simca Vedette Beaulieu (my family name). If it looks a bit like a '50s Ford, that's because it was. Interesting history there, mostly forgotten today: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simca_Vedette

Yep that's a '55 Simca Vedette, a model Simca inherited when they bought Ford's French subsidiary. Don't know if it's a Bealieu, might be a Vedette Versailles.

Have you been to the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu? I went there back in 1980 or so:

If the opportunity ever presents, a trip the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu is well worth it. Also a poke around the New Forest, whilst in the area..

That little white box on right is probably a Crosley wagon>

Rear glass on a 2CV is wider and higher>

The blue car upper right could only be a Citroen ID/DS.

Any guesses on newest car(s)? The Crosley (1947-52)looks like the oldest. Wikipedia sez the wagon was their best seller.

    American Pie reference.

Blue Renault Dauphine in the center. And a cool Jeep Wagon center front, and snazzy looking black Stude at the curb.

what is the black roof convertible in the bag row next to a white Bug? some sort of MB?

is the black Imperial (?) behind the Red Ford PU the newest? That must be a 60 something.

I think the black roof convertible is a Morris Minor.

Large black car behind the red Ford truck is a 59 Lincoln.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,649
    Cool pic, definitely California.

Low blue car upper right is definitely a Citroen DS/ID. Car behind the Stude is a mid 50s British Ford Consul/Zephyr/Zodiac. Looks like a Chevy Nomad just in the shot at lower right.

The Imperial could be anything from '58 to '60 as could the black Lincoln it is next to. The newest car I can definitely pin a year on is the white 1959 Ford wagon near the center.

I dunno but I think it's too big compared to the VeeDub to be a Minor. I'm thinking Mercedes Cabrio (170 or 220)

After comparing the front bumpers of the '58, '59, and '60 Lincolns, I'm putting 10 chips on 1959.

OK, I'll go on record as seeing nothing newer than '59. Because of my basic eccentricity, my eye was drawn to the bottom feeder (Deluxe trim) '58 Rambler next to the '59 Ford wagon in the first row.

Deluxe, Super and Custom, Why do I recall this Kenosha Cadillac trivia - must be growing up in the Chicago area although we never owned one.
  • ab348ab348 Member Posts: 20,474
Meanwhile with Ford the Custom was the low-line trim in the '60s and "Super Deluxe" was the top end for them in the late '40s. So very confusing.

    Yup, that's a 1988 Ford Mustang LX/5.0/Police Interceptor (ex.CHP)
I had an '86 GT/5.0 which was essentially the same car with a folding top. The 5 liter 'Stangs were very fast for their time.

The Green car with the black roof in front of the shed with a ladder is - I think - a Mercedes Benz 170 or similar. Next to it on the left is a VW with small oval window.

Also I'll take the green English Ford Zephyr mk1 which is parked at the kerbside.
