I've never seen a NY dealer charge an admin fee. I'll guess they can only get away with it on out-of-state deals. That's why NY restricts the doc fee to $75.

Doesn't CT collect tax on the monthly payment? Why all of the upfront tax? (assuming that is upfront).

No info on your local DMV charges.

I got a quote a short while ago from a CT dealership. ~$1,300 due up front ($850 fees, $455 first month), followed by $455 monthly for 35 months. They mentioned a CT property tax on cars, nothing they can control, estimate that to be $700 a year. Does that sound right? Thanks!

Based on my calculations this is a good deal, but want to confirm. V6 SEL 4motion, MSRP $44,535, 36month/12k. Upfront $2,000 includes all taxes, fees, 1st month. Then $460/month for 35 months.

Can you please provide thoughts?

And to that price, you need to add any fees or taxes that you are not paying up front.

Ask the dealer to provide them with the adjusted CAP, and how they got to that number from the selling price.

I thought I'd share my recent dealer experience for anyone else's curiosity.

I went in to test drive an SEL Premium. Showed interest in a 36mo/10k mile lease. Sales associate didn't come back with a worksheet, but rather one of the finance managers came in an verbally mentioned that a lease for that trim would be OVER $1000 month. Apparently they are having problems with allocation. I don't know if this is the case around the rest of the US.

I will say that on autotrader I can only find 11 copies for SEL Premium within 25mile radius in chicagoland area. Seems very low for such a large market.

I will try my luck at another dealer this week

I got another quote from one more dealer and I see they have added $452.00 as License fees , CA tire fees $8.75 , MVCS Fees - $ 29.00 along with Acquistion fees & doc Fees & first month payment for drive off amount which comes out to be $1600+. Question is License fees , CA tire fees, MVCS fees are they normal ?

One dealership sent me this for CA-San Jose. For SE / V6/AWD. Gave me following numbers.

MSRP - $38770
Adjusted CAP - $34,988
MF - 0.00090
RES - $22486.6

Based on these numbers and As per Edumunds lease calculator I get $435.69 per month after tax. They quoted me $458.01. No idea where is the difference coming from. Also first drive off $1008.

They also gave me these numbers

Dealer/State Fee - $619.75
Sales Tax - $1430.86
Customer Cash - $1008

2 questions I have

1) How are they getting $458.01 , where as per lease calculator it should be $435.69
2) Why the drive off $1008 , why are they adding taxes + $458.01 - Should not that be baked into the Adjusted CAP cost already , which includes all the other fees?

What am I missing?.

If that is the adjusted CAP, I get $399/mo.+tax

Dealer/State Fee: This is the CA DMV fees + $80 dealer doc fee.. looks right.
Sales Tax: This is informational only.. it's the total sales tax over the lease term. It's not added. Tax is collected monthly on the payment.
Customer Cash: This is your drive off amount. It's likely the payment + DMV fees. Which is what you want. If you roll DMV fees into the payment, you subject them to tax.

I'll guess that $34,988 is not the adjusted CAP, but the sale price of the vehicle. Add the $675 acquisition fee, and the payment matches their quote.

is that a legit dealer fees ($196) ?, can that be further negotiated?
Which of the above can be rolled into monthly payment , so that its distributed evenly over 36 months?, without paying unnecessary taxes . (e.g I guess DMV fees should be paid upfront , rather than in monthly payment because we don't want to pay taxes on DMV fees)

1) Never seen an additional "dealer fee" in CA. Ask them specifically what it's for. The doc fee is restricted to $80 by CA, and this may be an attempt to get around it.

Exactly... pay DMV fees upfront, as they are non-taxable. Acquisition fee can certainly be rolled into the CAP cost.

This is my second lease, my first lease I went in like an idiot 3 years ago , ended up paying too much because I had no idea. Now I realize all the things I'm overpaying for my previous lease that is coming up for return end of this month.
