Those that are going for sure, please send me an e-mail (I think you have the address), with Philly in the subject line. I'll see about tickets for the "other" days based on what I can get my hands on.

Juice - I can't wait to meet your wife and children! I'm glad he made it through everything so well!

I see Glenn Wallace (newimpreza.com and nasioc) is an entry racing an STi. If you click on his name it links to another sub-site, which give some info on his background.

There's also a turbo Baja and Forester XT being entered too, by two other teams. This rally should be interesting to follow, as there is a diverse group of vehicles, including three BMW X3 teams! I wonder if it will be on the Speed Channel?

Well, no concept vehicles will be there but:

    2 2K5 Legacy's will be there - 1 turbo, 1 not

    a few "dressed up" STi's

and - you all - should be a beautiful display!

I'm back and forth on whether I'm going tomorrow or not.

Go preview it for us, Dennis. See if you can get pics of the turbo itself (for Seth), and the Sportshift buttons on the steering wheel.

If it's not up on the turntable.

I wonder if our buddy from a couple of years ago will be there. We had his head spinning with all of our facts. LOL!

Omar, yeah I remember him too.

Plus we met Patti in person for the first time, exactly 2 years ago.

    Patti-

Any idea if the Legacy's will be open to the public to sit in, or will it be roped off?

    Mark

-sorry, I started to post this a couple of hours ago, so I missed Elm's post:-)

I'm betting that if you go with Patti that roped off or not, you'll get to sit in it :-)

Omar went wild last time, he even started the WRX. In NY they don't even allow the batteries to be connected!

goes tomorrow and fills us in, maybe we can figure out a way to dazzle the Rep. there (like we did with Omar) and have our way with it?? Maybe some type of distraction....heh,heh...

attack at your flailing on the floor while we all pop into the car. Now, if Dennis can get the VIN in advance, I'll grab the key code, have one cut in advance. Bob will slyly connect the battery as another crew member slides into the driver seat and fires that puppy up. All heads will turn as we sheepishly slink away from the display.

    Sounds like a plan?

Now that I'd have to be there for! With a camera to capture it all for posterity of course.

Went to Philly and had a good time.
No surprises since everything was posted on Edmunds (GT on a turntable, no concepts).

The GT looks really sharp. I can't wait to see what the OB will look like. Hopefully it will be in NY and I can catch the last day of the show (will be in SC that week). One of the marketing folks at the Subaru stand asked me if I worked for Subaru. I was answering questions for people. :-)

Not much to report since everything has been covered already. The 2.5i with Sportshift doesn't have the steering wheel buttons. The GT was a manual. I like the new sunroof in the wagons. I really wish the B9 was there. :-( I can't believe the backyard of SoA doesn't have concepts.

Afterwards, we had lunch at Nice Chinese Noodle House on Race and 11th.
Ed - I wanted to try Vietnam, but it was all over after my wife saw the noodle place. :-) I can't believe I missed you by only 20-30 minutes. I should know that you're very punctual and that you would've been there by 3:00 like you said.

BTW, you can buy/print tickets on-line and use the e-ticket entrance in the lobby. http://www.phillyautoshow.com/public_buytix.asp
    Have fun Friday!!

    Dennis,

Did you sit in the GT, or was it roped off? It could matter whether to go now or wait for NY - assuming we can sit in them at that time.

Yeah, we need to meet Patti at an entrance, like we did last time. Is there one main entrance? I don't remember it well.

Dennis: I try. ;-) Vietnam is worth a visit on some future trip, and not far from the noodle place.

I don't have much to add that hasn't already been said. The one '05 Legacy we riffraff were allowed to touch was very nice; the quality of interior materials, fit and finish noticeably improved. I like the little detachable cover that snaps to the inside of the wagon's liftgate, making for a completely hidden cargo bay when the retractable cover is in place. Nice touch.

There wasn't a lot more at the show that really got me raving, though two vehicles that got my attention were the Toyota Tundra and the Pontiac GTO. The Tundra is nicely finished and styled without succumbing to the overexaggerated macho posturing that affects the GM, Ford, Dodge and Nissan full-sized pickups. (Why does a short-bed, regular cab Dodge 4x4 with the Hemi V8 sticker at 34K? Ridiculous.) I was impressed with the look and feel of the GTO's interior and found its seats very comfy. The display car's black interior (including headliner) combined with the Goat's greenhouse made me feel a little claustrophobic, however. Maybe that's just me coming from the Forester with the expanse of glass and good visibility.

I could see Vietnam (not the country) down the block. :-)

Also had a lengthy discussion with a kid from Saab. He was really interested in hearing about the WRX. He said that all of Saab HQ in Sweden (he's Swedish) was up in arms about the 9-2. Looked like a few very interested people checking it out too.

Patti - Tell SoA to spend some bucks on some auto show shopping bags! The Sube marketing rep. pointed me to Mitsu, Toyota or GM. I walked around all day with a GM bag.

Too bad you like the Tundra, Toyota will join the bandwagon with its next truck, giving it the tough look.

I liked the T-100 too. It had its drawbacks but its "not quite full sized" looks remind me of the 1960-64 Studebaker Champ (see, e.g., http://www.motor-life.com/americanmotors/studebakertrucks/1963_sz- - 2106/index01.htm ). Seems to me that pickup designers are trying to target the market that responds to "male enhancement" spam e-mails.

There's still a small part of me that wants a pickup, but if I ever buy one odds are it will be a pre-1970 model and not my primary transportation.

    Ed
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
You mean those enhancements don't work? But the ad campaign for those was co-sponsored by Dodge. :o)

I'm with you, get the smallest/lightest package that can get the job done. JB is too. But you have to admit, we're the minority.

    -juice

Edit: that Stude's bed is HUGE for the size of the vehicle, look how wide that is!
