I'll find out but I kind of doubt it. It is still being kept under wraps at our place (I'm sleuthing to get a look). I'll let you know later.

and snow. The first time I drove mine with ABS in foul weather, I was surprised by the ABS when I hid a slippery spot on ice. I did the dreaded, automatic reaction of pumping the brakes. I'd suggest any newbie subie's taking their car onto an empty lot with NOTHING around. Get some speed (safely) going and jam on the brakes. You'll love the performance, but you have to hold the pedal down.

    Enjoy - I'm still waiting for some white stuff ;~{

Lucien: let's see, would that be no work = no pay? :(

    Good idea, Patti. Fun, too!

anyone with ABS for the first time. 20/20 or one of those other awful, fear-mongering shows (IMHO all of them except 60 Minutes) tried to do a piece on ABS' failure to function a few years back, but it turned out to be nothing but driver error as those things almost always do. In the case of ABS it was exactly what you described; people mash the brakes in an emergency, the pedal starts to pump as the ABS does its thing, and they take their foot off the brake.

That, the Audi/Jeep "unintended acceleration" fiasco, and what appears to be a growing hack job on Ford/Firestone are enough for me to wish those TV "news" magazine shows a speedy farewell.

    Muttering slightly,

That Audi thing was silly. There isn't an engine in the world that could outpower the brakes on a vehicle. Not even close!

    Juice: - I don't remember a puddle in the Durango .. ah .. maybe I wasn't looking.

Patti: - Thanks for the news .. BOO HISS ! I've already promised Juice he could drive mine. Gotta see it before I can buy it.

Loosh: - Wine salesman seeks employment ?

The Durango, like the Dakota from whence it sprang, has a light rear end, and doesn't need a whole lot of braking authority back there because it won't do a whole lot. The fronts do most of the work. The Dakota actually has a weight-sensitive proportioning valve to further cut back on rear brake power when the bed is empty. With pickups, you only need rear brakes when you're carrying a load. Otherwise, they don't do much but lock up!

The official rollout is in Detroit in January. That show is the same week as the Baltimore show! That does not bode well for the car being in Baltimore, I'm afraid. However, the Philadelphia Auto Show is Feb. 3-11, and the WRX has been reported by a reputable source (Becker Subaru) to definitely be making an appearance there. Is this sufficient to woo any of the folks on the wrong side of the Mason Dixon Line northward?

    Cheers,

I'm up for philly, much closer to NYC than those damn southerners! :)

Identify yourselves, please. I'm going to try to spend some time there. I'd love to chat with any of you!
  • thecatthecat Member Posts: 535
Either direction is good with me. Balto. is 35-40 min's south Philly 60+ min's north. With the WRX on display (patti is that correct info?) and the chance to meet the former Super-Model "Patti", I am willing if the other "Southern Contingent" is interested.

    Considering my 50K+ miles a year, what's a few hundred more :)

Of course you should all come to the NY International Show!

Baltimore is set, but I may be up for Philly also. When is that show?

PS still working on getting free passes, I'll let you guys know when I do

I could be up for that.

Here are some specifics on the Baltimore Auto Show. It's being sponsored by Motor Trend magazine.

The coupon on that site is only for weekdays. I spoke with my buddy earlier today and he's canvassing dealers for those free passes.

They don't really have any info yet, but I expect them to be roughly the same as the DC Auto Show. In other words, last year's NY and Detriot Shows.

That would mean the ST-X would be there, at least.

Yup, going part time, with an eye toward no-time. Retail is starting to take the stuffing outta me. Need my Saturdays back to rehearse, record, hang out with car geeks, auto-x, cycle, curse at whatever lump of teutonic speedball is in my possession, throw tools, etc, etc.

Only down side is, not enough income to sustain another Soob payment.

What about part-time work at a dealership?

    Just a thought.

WDB, Hutch, Loosh, Bob, Craig (and anyone else I missed): I doubt I can swing time for two car shows, so I vote for the WRX in Philly (road trip, woohoo!). Besides Becker Subaru, can (cough) Patti (cough) confirm or deny the WRX in Philly?

Since I'm against letting you folks down, I just may hide from the Philly auto show as to not disappoint!
  • subaru_teamsubaru_team Member Posts: 1,676
Take care of that cold, my friend!!! While your sippin' on some tea, I'll see if I can find out!
  • thecatthecat Member Posts: 535
Patti - sorry, hadn't thought about your reaction to my post. I just thought it was funny. Anyway, I passed my prime a few squares back! Personally, any day that I look in the mirror and see any hair .. that's a good day!

Mike - Philly works for me.

Juice - If you still want company at the Balto show email me and we'll work out the logistics.

what a demure group we have here. Not one comment on that part of the post. True gentleman. I tip my hat to them all!

  • c_hunterc_hunter Member Posts: 4,487
Yeah, well some of us probably have a hard time finding hair too . . . .

    Craig
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Thanks hutch. Uh, what does demure mean though? Was that an insult? ;)

I have no problem finding hair. It's losing it that's become a problem!

How this all relates to "Events" I'm not quite sure but ...

Craig - I can find it .. I'm just not amused by the location :)

    Juice - Demure (adj) - Modest..Reserved..Genteel
Absolutely not an insult. I have the highest regard for the moral character of the members here. Hairless Durango wetters they may be :0

Kate, I know you'd rather hang with some of your Edmunds buds but you might also try i Club's Bay Area Forum (currently undergoing maintenance). Not all of them are twenty-somethings. i Clubbers I've met at the DC events are very friendly. Since I don't have an RS (as do most but not all on the North American Subaru Impreza Owners Club), my wife's GT wagon always draws some attention and that helps break the ice. The common thread: Everyone's an enthusiast and everyone wants to talk about Subarus, no matter what the shape. Try posting a message over there; you might be surprised by the result.

    ..Mike

PS - Also, there are some Edmunds folks that are more active on i Club, so you might run into a familiar face.

Kate: do jump in. Lots, in fact most, Impreza aftermarket parts would fit on your Forester.

It's kind of cool to check out how people customize their Scoobys. One local is in on the Turbo group buy and promised to invite me over to check out the installation.

I think I am game for Philly, but will do Balto. anyway; it is tradition, and I look forward to welcoming the show back to the convention center.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Baltimore is a lot closer, so I'm there, too.

    Maybe Philly as well.

    any news on this yet?
I live one hour from there and just might go to the plant when the weather turns better. still loving my subie and I think my dad and is are going to buy an cutback for their next car. just today I did the as thing. pretty weird feeling. car handles great in all this snow we've had dumped on us. I commute one hour to work going into lake effect snow so I'm really impressed with the ride. the only complaint I have is the clearance between the wheels and wheelwells. the snow packs up in there and starts to rub the tires. hubby thawed it all off today with the reddi-heater as our temps are still near zero for the high!! ouch. later .......

OK on the 23rd, the Toronto Subaru Club organized a winter driving school at the Mosport racing track. It was very well organsied.
there were at least 30 Impreza among a few odd 2WD an a Forester (Subaru of Canada rep).
THe condition was fabulous couldn't ask fro any better. THe track was covered with snow. We were divided to various classes depending on driving experiences ranging from Beginners, Novice, Intermediate and Expert. I was in novice due to my err.... limited Solo II experience. ANyways I doubt it matter.
IT was well organised. Alot of Rally Masters showed up as instuctors including the 4 times Canadian Rally Champion and this year's champion Tom and Trish McGeer. ANd yes, they towed along their 375hp, 400lb/ft WRX! That thing is incredible! I parked next to it. Pictures will come later.
It was a full day event. The morning was good as the track was still snowy. Then as the day wore on, the turns began to ice up abit. I spun out only once! Remarkable!!! =) I think all of us spun out at least once. hahahaha
By the end of the day, we were pretty much flying down the track even though it as icy. However I a lone civic equipped winter tires (btw, due to conditions winter tire is a MUST!) got stuck quite a bit. It was also quite disheartening to see the poor FWD car spinning her front wheels trying to get up an icy incline of the track. But not a problem for us AWDers. ;-)
The SOC rep also went out with his Forester. He was actually pretty good. Also he brought along some Subaru paraphenelia. No,there's no new WRX there.
And then the time all of us has ben waited. Tom McGeer took out his rally WRX which itself is technically more powerful than Burn'scar! It was just phenomenal! We were in awe. So much power and control.
The Clubbers were very mature bunch of folks even though alot of us were young ppl.No show offs. Just pure camaraderie.
Anyhow, for $100CDN, it was a steal for the track time, learning experience from the instructors (they sat in yoru car and help you out during the sessions). I think it total we averaged about 30 over laps.
I hope we will have another one next year. But I doubt the cost would be that cheap ever.

Events are kind of quiet, eh?

Anyone attend the i Club event at Arundel Mills on 12/27?

I guess the Baltimore show is next.

PS ramon - lucky dog! Sounds like a hoot!

Good Morning! I've posted comments about this under the other topics, but I wanted to make sure I put it here.

We're looking forward to a lively chat tonight with Mike Whelan. Mike knows a lot about the Impreza and he's a great resource. Make sure you try to participate. It will reinforce the need for more of these type forums for the future. You all have wonderful information and I kind of take pride in this group. So, show off your stuff and ask Mike!

Not many hours left to the launch - - I'm getting caught up in the excitement!
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
Any further word as to whether the new Impreza will show up at the upcoming Baltimore Auto Show, in a week or so? What about the Phili show?

is headed for KC after all, so I suppose we should decide if we want to oin them or press forward with our plans for Indiana. What say ye?

Also, it occurs to me that, if some of us had a day off, we could plan a field trip to Cherry Hill to visit SOA and Rallispec.....
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Anytime you want. I'm in NYC, so that's no biggie.

  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Well the Isuzu guys are definitely interested in a trip to SIA, so I feel we should push foward with our plans, albeit independent of I-clubbers. Anyone want to propose a date? Or should we ask Patti when is good for her or for SIA?
