Don has collected some info and if anyone agrees to coordinate the visit we'll forward it to you. Paisan - you want him to contact you about it?

Rallispec would be cool, but I need a day off. We're without a nanny right now, so it would have to be after 1/29.

Warning: off-topic rant. Brazilians are spoiled with maids and nannies. We have a disease we call MAIDS. If we're without one, we die! ;o)

Yeah, I'll head up the Isuzu contingent for the tour, if someone else is willing to take care of the Subaru side...

Normally I would but I'm not sure I could go.

I just spent 3 weeks in Brazil, we may go to a wedding in the Dominican Republic in the summer (and hang with centavo, plus rent a Forester turbo), and somewhere along the lines we have to visit the in-laws again.

I'm not sure I have enough time off (or money) for that, plus I'd have to leave the baby alone with momma.

Anyone volunteer to head the trip?

I plan to make it only a 3 day possibly 4 day weekend. I'll be taking the Trooper so I'll have 2 or 3 empty seats... I figure if we leave on thurs night, we can arrive around the wee hours of friday morning, hit the plant either friday or sat, and leave around 10am on sunday to return.

Guess so, so join us for a live Subaru Crew chat in about 5 hours (6pm pacific, 9pm eastern).

The idea is to have this chat be a regular, weekly thing, so let's hope it'll be active and informative.

    Please join us tonight.

And if I'm lucky, dinner won't be ready yet, and my kiddo won't need too much help with his homework... I can sneak downstairs, get a hockey game up on ESPN2, and figure out how to make a chat work on this confounded thing!

    Cheers!

Okay are we getting some Crew members together for this show? It runs from this Wednesday - Sunday.

I may(?) go Wednesday, but if a group of us is going over the weekend, I will join you. Just pick a date, time and place to meet.

I was shooting for Sat. morning, but it looks like I am free Friday eve too. Who is interested?
  • thecatthecat Member Posts: 535
    Lucien,
Sat. morning would be cool with me. Juice and I have been communicating via email about coordinating the "Club" for this event but haven't come up with anything concrete. I know AJ is planning to go .. if Sat. morning is good with him, let's set it up.

p.s. - has anybody determined if the WRX will be in attendance?

I think Mike Smith is in for Sat. a.m.....

    no word on WRX
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788

O.k. Saturday, January 20, 2001. Baltimore Auto show.

Should we shoot for meeting around 11 am, or does noon allow more time for the long distance haulers to get here in a relaxed fashion?
  • thecatthecat Member Posts: 535
an early start. If it's agreeable to everybody, I'd prefer to beat the mid-day peak so we can really look at stuff. I don't know what time the doors open, but early is my vote. If that doesn't work for everybody .. than whatever the decission .. I'm there.

We still need to hear from A.J. He was absent from the board yesterday.

    is good for me.

Do you want to meet at the Subaru display? I'll be wearing brown jacket and a Subaru baseball cap.

Saturday, Jan 20. 11:00am. At the Subaru Display. Right? I'll wear my hat.

Sounds good to me. Who else is coming?

Unless WDB is making it down from PA and prefers 11am, I'm with Hutch and prefer to bust the doors down when the show opens at 10am.

I'm back. Gotta check with the boss (yes, the one you're thinking of) to see if that works. Some friends wanted to go to the aquarium so I'm trying to sell her on joining them and then meeting up later or something.

That being the case, 10am or 11am is perfect. I may bum a ride from Mike, and then return with the family.

We could start at 10am and then meet again briefly at the Subaru stand at 11am to catch the late-comers.

Is the WRX going to be there? If so I'm almost certainly coming. I asked weeks ago and got no answer. According to Becker Subaru the WRX will be in Philly; since I have a choice I'm going to go to a show that has the WRX.

If we meet at 10, where would it be?

If we meet at 11, it can be at the Subie stand.

    Cheers,

on a Baltimore viewing of WRX. Personally, I kind of doubt it. Hope I'm wrong.

I definitely will be up for that, and I'll be at the NY Auto-show as well.

  • thecatthecat Member Posts: 535
    NOT !

The show website has a list of 2002 cars that will be on diplay. The WRX is conspicuous in its absence. Doesn't look good .....

Well 10am is o.k., i suppose. Kirsten can't make it until 11:30 or so, but I can hook up with her later, once she gets there.

BTW, we gotta talk my folks into a Subie. They don't want one because the H6 is too expensive compared to the Accord (I know I know, but they don't really care about AWD or the added expense). I can't believe they're going to have TWO Accords. Yeesh. I think we might be able to sell Mom on it, actualy maybe even the Forester, but Dad isn't going for it. he REALLY wants an A6, and is sour grapes 'cause he can't afford it right now, but his car is about dead and he needs a new one. Even a Taurus wagon would be better for them, IMHo.

He currently drives a 1988 Merkur Scorpio (!) kewl car, I gotta say.

So, 10am with asweep of stragglers later?, if we do that, let's bump the 2nd heat to 11:30 so the first crew has a little time to make the rounds.
  • thecatthecat Member Posts: 535
What do you say we meet at the Pratt St. entrance (it is the main entrance according to the show website) at 10:00. In case of bad weather we can assemble at the Soob location inside.

For those of you on a budget, you can print out your ticket online and save a buck. WOOOO
The first cup of coffee is on me....

I've decided to stay home and take down Christmas decorations (we had our last "Christmas" party here on Sunday). I am definitely on for Philly.

I'll be thinking of you whilst risking life and limb on a 40-foot ladder so as to take our gigantic wreath down. (Brain: let's see, what would I rather be doing right now... anything? True, but how about something more specific. Oh, yeah, checking out kewl new cars in Baltimore!)

    Cheers,

I'm still working out the details (gotta talk to my aquarium-bound friends), but I'm in.

I'll probably drive the wife up and drop her off, then walk over to the show. I'll try for 10am, but with a baby unfortunately it's never up to me. I'll carry a cell phone and surely be there before the 11:30am "stragglers" meet.

Bummer - no free passes this time. My friend's dealerships don't have any B-town locations.

Is good, but let's meet inside, at the Pratt St. entrance. It's too cold for these old bones outside.

I may head down there today, for a preview. I'm still up in the air about that. If I do, I will certainly let you know if the WRX shows. I did read, in today's Baltimore Sun, that the new Jeep Liberty will be there.

    Bob
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I LOVE auto shows. You can preview anything without any pressure from sales staff. Nothing like it.

Well, except Edmunds Live. That goes a step further in that you can DRIVE them.

Oh well, can't have it all. At least the auto show has more selection.

I'm looking forward to taking a close look at the VDC, Sante Fe, Tribute, Escape, RAV4, XL7, Sequioa, and Liberty. Basically all the new SUVs since the last show I went to.

That plus the new Passat wagon, Jetta wagon if it's there, Protoge wagon, etc.

    What's on your lists?

    -juice
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
if the WRX doesn't show up—the Liberty, without question. To me, this is one of the most anticipated (and debated) vehicles ever to come out of Detroit. The others you mentioned hold some interest, but nothing like the Liberty.

I'm sure the Highlander will be there too.

    Bob
  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
Don't be callin' that Mazda a wagon now, ya heard? NO mention of "wagon" or "hatchback." Ever. That there is the Protege 5. Zoom Zoom.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    That's right. Oops.

What cracks me up is these Tribute owners saying "Zoom Zoom" when it has a Ford engine and tranny!

At least the Protoge is purely Mazda. So far.

  • thecatthecat Member Posts: 535
I thought it was "Zoom Boom" :)

I swung by the auto show this evening so I could study the vehicles I was interested in depth. Now I will be better able to enjoy everybody's company Saturday. :)

No WRX. No surprise here. After talking to the Subaru people on the stand I got the distinct feeling that the 2002 Legacy GT Limited and Outback sedan will get the H-6.

The Toyota Highlander is about 50' from the Subaru display, making easy cross comparisons possible.

The Jeep Liberty is a winner, IMHO.

Most interesting vehicle was outside on Pratt St., a PT Cruiser, ultra-stretch limo!

It's a good show. I think you will enjoy it.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
From the photos, I like the Liberty too. Looks much better than the spy photos seemed to imply, and usually the reverse is the case.

    Good one, Hutch.

I'm still getting use to using the chat window (no difference using IE or Netscape). Aside from a few connection issues for some, I think it went well.

Anyone taking a digicam to the autoshow event? Please share some of the good finds with the rest of us!

Okay folks, let's wrap this puppy up, and put it to bed:

From what I've gathered so far on who's coming:

Mike Smith, Lucien, Steve (the cat) Hutchinson, Juice, and myself. Did I leave anybody out??

    Please Note:
If you are on Pratt St., facing the Convention Center, there are 2 entrances—both on Pratt St. The Pratt St. entrance (which is what we want) is to the right, near the intersection of Howard St. and Pratt St.

The other entrance (the Charles St. entrance) is to the left, at the intersection of Pratt St. and Charles St.

See everyone at 10:00 AM, at the Pratt St. Entrance. Also, there is a parking lot on Pratt St., near the Pratt St. entrance.

I'll have my friend Darin in tow, plus Mom and Dad. My friend Steve Johanson and his girlfriend Pam ought to be there. Also, a contingent of i-clubbers will be looking for us, so somebody wear a Subaru hat or something.
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
stick-on name tags—to keep everybody straight. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm terrible at remembering names.

Several of us have Subaru baseball caps.
