Speaking of project cars, here is an interesting one that surely is a project:

Apparently not; it worked for the seller of Q's Coronet, right? :D

I can't be sure the problem wasn't caused by throwing the belt and overheating it early in my ownership.

odd thing. Interested to see what that goes for. Not bad looking, but those Mirrors look atrocious. Not a good selection there.

That reminds me, I think Classic and Sportscar stopped giving out a free yearly calendar, something I had used as an excuse to buy a copy for years. Not included in copies locally, anyway.

Well with unidentified coachwork and a lazy Mercedes engine rather than the Lancia V-6, I'm wondering if this car is a bit of a pig in a poke. It's not unattractive, and seems well done, but what it is, really? Kind of a [non-permissible content removed].

It will be interesting to see what kind of money it brings. Certainly it will be something of an attention-getter, but whether it's worth a huge bid or not---I'm not so sure it is. Certainly it should not sell for more than a stock 220 coupe in similar condition.

Be honest, Shifty. Did you actually get bounced for non-permissible content or was that your own contribution, similar to clever use of symbols to replace characters? If the latter, let me say 'well done'.

OHHHHH....I remember....I said it was kind of a bast..... (an illegitimate child). Well, now, I cry "foul" on the censor robot. I was using the term in the traditional fashion. I wonder if the "ized" version of the word, as in bastardized, would pass?
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,105
    It did!
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
I think the term fits that car. It's not a BAD thing, like say a "Frankencar", but the term bastardized suggests decisions like putting a Chevy engine in an old Ford, or wire wheels on a VW. Neither "thing" is bad--but they just don't go together. If you coachbuild a sports coupe with Lancia lines, you should power it up appropriately.

decisions like putting a Chevy engine in an old Ford

    What, isn't that called resto-mod B)
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Sure, people do it all the time, but some call it heresy. Old Ford hot rod should have a flattie powering it.
  • ab348ab348 Member Posts: 20,268

The restomod types start by putting a LS engine in everything. A lot of them stop there. Others don't but probably should have. :@

Cheap HP, that's for sure. You can buy a boatload of ponies for a mere $4K. It's an American thing. Euro and Japanese hot rods are done in a totally different mindset.

So I went to a Cars n' Coffee in San Diego by a company called "The Vault."

Apparently, they are nothing but a glorified warehouse turned into a giant garage with a kitchen and bar and big screen TV's, and a lounge/pool table, and big pizza oven.

So I'm guessing this is a garage storage lot for people with too much money to park their beloved cars that either don't have room at home or are not wife-approved to be parked at home.

So, it's not really a Cars n Coffee.. It's just a commercial enterprise, selling car storage? Bet you'd meet a lot of great guys, there. :o

I learned to drive a stick shift on a LUV owned by a friend. Bright yellow, pretty well modded (for the late 70's, at least)

It was a pretty legit car meetup. They must have advertised a lot. Essentially, giving out free breakfast pizza, free coffee, and having an open house to showcase their product. They got a lot of cars to show up.

Getting nice bids already, and one can see why - maybe the best car on the market that peak malaise model year.

Regarding the car meetup, if it isn't like the fake Cars & Coffee in my area (restrictions on what can attend, mostly a show off-fest for tech and financebros, lucky generationers, and imported money launderers), it is good, free food makes it better.

odd choice to spend that much time and money on, but seems well done. I can't see spending $110,000 on though. Nicer than stock, that is for sure!

Gotta be a REAL narrow market for that beast...
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
It could possibly sell for around $60K-$70K. You'd have to be a big name builder, I think, to get much more than that for it.

They also had a dash top mounted rear mirror and often driver's third of bench seat had an elevated back on upper trim models. IIRC it was the first year of frequent usage of the toilet seat embossed on the trunk lid too. I think a few earlier upscale models had that trunk effect also though, like some Imperials. Sputnik influence perhaps B)

If the BTTF reboot happens I hope they use a 1960 Fury. Might explain some of the dashboard pods in the present/future. Or the present/past.

I just don't see how these things can possibly have the longevity of analog. I have a lot of LCD monitors that are ten+ years old and get a lot of use, but not in the environment that the interior of a car sees!

Probably a half dozen screws and a single connector.

Likely a $1500 part and as many labor hours as the dealer can get away with.

I like the full digital gauges in a way, if one is really wanting to have a very modern car, but when the car is 10+ years old, maybe not so much.
