    Just read a review of the S6 Avant. Sweet car, but at $62 grand it had better be.

    Maybe there is room for a Subaru flagship to compete with that type of vehicle. If they could keep prices to Passat W8 levels and offer more room and power...

    Mega dealers? Put one in Colorado, another in Buffalo. Snow country.

    Across the street from SoA headquarters is a very large horse racing track, Garden State Park, that has been out of business for some time now. Not sure what developers plan to do with it, but it'd make a great test track.

    Graham did mention this—in regards to Australia. This is the first time I've heard of this being planned for North America, however.

    Land Rover had done something similar, in that some dealers had an "off-road" section on the property, where customers could see firsthand the abilities of Land Rovers. I remember there was one in Laurel Maryland (Tisher) for a while. It's no longer there, however.

    Long story short, did you re-use that box I sent the wheels in? Fed-ex sent me a bill for over $200.00 and they claim that they are actually seeing movement of a package on their computers. I'm telling them, "no way, didn't happen, call the guy I sent them to". They say it looks like a return to sender type deal, which I again said, "nope, didn't happen, I have digital picture proof". So, this is more a heads up than anything. I may need your help in the form of a phone call. I am actually on hold as we speak. I may end up resolving it before you see this.

    Actually I did what any Subaru owners would do - I broke the boxes down and took them to the nearest recycling center. Sorry, they're probably either mulch or a recycled paper product by now.

    So my mom just pulled the trigger, ordered a new '03 2.5 TS Sport, with an aftermarket moonroof, aftermarket radio package, keyless entry, and an auto-dimming mirror for a bit less than $20k, tires over the curb, taxes, title and the whole bit.

    She's ecstatic, and so am I for her. She dealt with Libertyville and was treated like royalty.

    Now I just have to teach her how to log onto Edmunds... :-)

    I just read through my recent issue of Automobile Magazine and there was a very short review of the 2003 Forester.

    In general, the reviewer liked the improvements to the 2003 Forester, especially the return of the Hillholder clutch.

    So far I've just dealt with the service people there and can't give enough praise. Even though I have test driven several vehicles over the years there, we haven't bought from them. Yet. I guarantee that our next vehicle (most likely a subaru or MPV {hers}) will be from there.

    but I have cable. Love it. It would be nicer if someone else paid for it, but the speed is terrific on everything except Web X on a bad day.

    ...2 T1's at work. Home is faster, but only because it doesn't have the burden of 350+ users and several remote plants online sending email, browsing the 'net, and storing files on the LAN.

    I have never regretted going to cable (Time Warner). DSL is just not an option here - the CO is too far away for a decent signal. And so far, I've consistently gotten ~2000/down, ~350/up from cable.

    I originally had @home cable service and the speeds were fantastic. I was getting download speeds of >3000kbps.

    Then the whole @home bankruptcy came into play and I had HUGE problems switching over to AT&T cable.

    I switched to Earthlink DSL and have been satisfied so far. My D/L speeds are not nearly as fast (1300kbps) but enough for most uses.

    Tell her congrats from the Crew, Brian.

    From what I've heard, cable starts super fast and then slows down as more and more people get on it.

    DSL is fixed speed, and that depends on what you pay for the service.

    So both seem to have their trade-offs. We tried to install DSL in 2000 and had a nightmare of a time, they even tore my lawn to shreds to bury new cable and it still failed. I've heard the service is much more reliable now.

    depend on your specific location. Some companies are very good about upgrading the backbone structure to add bandwidth, and others are not. As long as your specific provider has invested in upgrades (fiber optic lines are the best), you won't notice any slow down as more users are added.

    Try checking with your neighbors to see if they use cable modems, and what their experiences are. They'll provide a much more realistic expectation.

    Well I'm up and running with Cox Cable. So far so good. Certainly faster than my SBC/PacBell DSL. Various speed tests show I am now getting 1.7M down vs .8-1.1M for the DSL. We'll see how it goes. While we are off topic, anyone sign up for MCU Neighborhood? $49.95 for unlimited long distance and local toll calls.

    I just signed up for cable yesterday. RCN has a deal here where they will give you a ton of TV cable channels (HBO, music, etc), cable for the PC and unlimited regional phone usage with 10 options (call waiting, etc) for $105. However, they can't install mine for 3 weeks. Just need to get an ethernet card and a good firewall. Topic? Well, with faster speeds and being logged in all the time I can converse more with everyone here and save more time for driving.

    I have RCN up here in Beekman, but they have not announced anything special yet. I keep calling, but they have no news. I assume that includes 'digital' cable as well?

    The main reason I switched was a frequent problem of service interruption lasting from minutes to a day or more. I understand that this is not a problem in my new home, but I have never been a real fan of the cable company. I also noticed a slow down at peak usage times. Finally, the DSL provider was doing a special promotion so it was very cost effective. So far I'm very impressed both with the service & the service (if you get my drift).

    I've had DSL since it was available here in NYC (7th person on Staten Island to have it installed) and it's not blazing fast, but I can count the minutes on one hand it's been down in 3+ years. Cable is faster here, but since I don't have cable they'd whack me enough extra $ that I might as well have cable TV along with it. Some penalty for not having a cable TV subscription.

    Sincerely, thanks for these off topic posts. I'm considering one of these to replace the dial-up modem but I'm still too cheap to pay $50/mo to surf. There are lots of other things I can do with the $400/year difference. (Like lift tickets?!)

    How many minutes per night do you think I would save reading the "CREW" posts w/ DSL or cable?

    Wow, that's expensive. I will pay ~$35 Cn ($23 US) after the low introductory rate ends in 6 months, and it's a monopoly!

    Yes many cable companies here in the US charge $50/month for connectivity, web/ftp/mail services and cablemodem rental. it varies from market to market but generally the modem rental itself is $10-15 of that $50 so if you buy your own (why not, under $100 these days) then you don't pay that.

    ..in the Comox Valley. Surprised you are already over there and settled in!! It is one of the prettiest spots on the Island IMO (maybe should keep that quiet also just like the lack of rain in Vanc. and Seattle). All the best.

    for cable modems w/o Digital cable, $40/month w/digital cable. I don't have cable, so I pay the higher rate (DirecTV instead). DSL goes for the same price, but at lower speeds. Of course as I mentioned before, DSL is still not available everywhere in my city yet (and SBC has no plans to build on so far). I've had the cable modem for 1 year now and haven't seen or felt the expected slowdown that I also feared like others.

    As for the cost, I was spending $15/month for a second phone line and $20/month for unlimited local dial-up. For the extra $15/month, I get speeds 100x faster consistently. And I can now VPN to work to take care of my db's.

    Well worth it, IMO. YMMV. :)

    Thanks for your good wishes. Actually, the Comox Valley is a wonderful place for tourists to visit, but it's a terrible place to live. I would NOT recommend it to anyone - except good friends.

    I have a simple question: Why do the posts now display Eastern time rather than REAL time? I started to get quite confused at first - I know "Valley time" is slower than other time, but really!! I'll try to post some on Imagestation in a few days.

    It is now running on the proper time. Since NYC is the center of the world, and the most important place that everything revolves around it only makes sense that the times are displayed in EST. :)

    Had to do my macumba (*) for Brazil to win, which they did. :-)

    Also attended the wedding of my nanny's daughter yesterday. I did check in though.

    Also found a 6CD and bought it yesterday, $155 shipped. It's being shipped and should arrive Friday. So it'll go in this weekend.

    Sandy will be happy. She'd been largely ignored since the newcomer arrived.
