They end up accidently pressing all the buttons...the car is Sonic Yellow!

Why are Fridays slow? People takin' the day off? Working to meet those deadlines?

    How's Patti's neck?

Missed another chat secondary to a soccer practice... good news is the coach has finally seen the error of her ways and scheduled next week's practice for Tuesday. Now I have a meeting @ school next Thursday night... oh darn!

Ordered Monsters Inc from Costco.com back in about March, advance purchase to be shipped on release date (Tues).. nothing in the mailbox yet :( BUT! Finally got the home theater gizmo wired up & working, so we'll have something to watch it on!

    Cheers!

With all the educators here, I think we'll understand. ;-)

How 'bout some good car flicks, instead? Rent "Ronin" if you haven't seen that already. Best chase scene in the past decade.

And, of course, the AWD car escapes from the RWD ones. :-)

    Smokey and the Bandit!

I like "Le Mans" and "Grand Prix", both have excellent racing footage. Can't wait for them to come out on DVD.
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
funny you should mention Ronin juice... one of my dogs just ate it earlier this week! it was VHS though, so I guess I have an excuse to buy the dvd.

    other faves:
    blues brothers
5 minutes of the French Connection
    10 minutes of Bullitt

    I LOVE Blues Brothers ...
no one mentioned 'Back to the Future' .. guess it's not a typical car movie ...
Then there's 'Speed' .. also not a typical car movie, but starring the greatest movie star of all time, Keanu Reeves (Please tell me you guys don't think I'm serious) ...
And how about "Bill and Ted's Most Excellent Adventure" .. oh wait .. that was a phone booth ... nevermind (Emily Lutella voice)

Seriously .. how come you guys have "Monsters, Inc" before *I* do???? Do you guys all have little ones in the home? The b/f's kids (boys 12 and 14) think it's funny when I bring home movies like "Shrek" and say, "AND THIS ONE IS MINE!!!!" (While they secretly 'covet' them.)

Enjoyed the chat last night, and yeah, the MF cookies were great ... so great in fact that one of the boys ate something like 15 of them (and I don't make them little) ... I teased him that I was worried he'd get 'chocolate poisoning'.

Thanks .. got it .. looks great. Even though our computer desks sit side by side in the basement, I forwarded it to the b/f to see if he's interested. He talks occasionally, but I'm not sure how serious he is. We do love my Outback, and he's the one who first suggested I look at Subaru. He'd owned one before.

I agree w/ tincup. Grand Prix and Le Mans - real racing from the good ole days, long before digital special effects.

Wonder if they could do the DVD with interview & commentary?

They did that with "The Magnificent Seven" and it was really interesting to get the insight and behind the scenes "issues". Steve McQueen was always fidgeting in the background, finally Yul Brynner says to him "If I want the steal the scene, all I have to do is this." as he removes his hat.
  • ladywclassladywclass Member Posts: 1,713
No one mentioned "The Love Bug" or that classic TV sitcom .. My Mother the Car ... lol
  • hammersleyhammersley Member Posts: 684
Brenda: Monsters, Inc is a must have in this house... little ones aged 10, 6 & 4. (and I'll admit, a grown up here likes it too!)

    Cheers!

    G'day

She's a nineteen twenty eight Porter,
    That's my mother dear,
    My mother
    The Car.

Oh, dear! What brought that on?

I am mildly horrified to discover that the show is supposed to be the all time worst Sit-Com. I rather liked it, but I was 7 at the time, so tatse was not a big feature in my life. Besides we had just got a TV so anything looked good.

    Cheers

Well used the power of the SVX yesterday to avoid being a victim of road rage. Had some chick w/her BF in a Teg cut me off for no reason and then proceed to give me the finger and try to run me off the road. Didn't want to stick around so bolted off @ 133 til I realized I should slow down and was long ahead of them. I was impressed that it handled the road quite well at speed. Of course the open exhaust was roaring by the time we were up that high :( Can't wait to fix that this week.

    Ooo mike-
time to install a buzzer to tell you what speed you've just exceeded ;-)

    -Dave
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
yeah I'm gonna need to set that at 134 though :) Can I set it to increase by 1mph above the previous high speed? Hee Hee

Well I am back. Exhausted, but back. Had a great time, and it sure was good to slip behind the wheel of the GT for the ride home. I gotta say, $1500 in bolt ons has made that car a joy to get around in.

SO NEways, sorry I missed the chat, but I was dining at an 18th century chateau overlooking the main court. Not a T1 in sight.
I love going over there. It just isn't fair. Bah, don't get me started. Suffice to say, 3 of my favorite things are cars, wine, and food- I saw 3 GC8 turbos and 2 new school STis. The rest went from there.

Other auto notes: 911s are a dime a dozen in Paris. Hell, 550 Maranellos were a dime a dozen Saturday nite! The RS6 is very cool.

Oh, and going 200mph on land in a train is good for a giggle or 2.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Colin: did you ask them "how did it taste"? ;-)

The SNL spoof of Keanu Reeves was their best skit ever.

Shrek was great. I had to walk out of Monsters Inc because my little tot was distrubing the whole theatre! Argh. I missed the ending, and just them she decides she wants to see it! At least we saw the "out takes" at the end.

mike: at least you didn't exceed the European "gentleman's agreement" on top speed.

loosh: RS6 is automatic only. Those commies!

Just got my first coupon from Chase... $100 SubaruBucks. Whoo hooo. These days, 3% tax-free return is nothing to sneeze at, right :-) ?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I have a Chase card - 1% from Toys R Us. Those buy diapers, so I'm debating if it's worth switching programs.

I'm still out of work. The surgeon's are working on a plan for me so I'll know more next week. It's frustrating but I'm in good hands.

    Chat this Thursday?

Yesterday, Michael, despite having been born in Connecticut and grown up there and here in Florida, sounded like a true New Yorker like his Mom and Dad. He said....."Longisland"...the proper one-word pronunciation, not the two word out-of-towner way.
    That's my boy!

    Patti,

Surgery!? Sounds serious -- I hope it isn't.

I'll try and make chat this Thursday, but it's my wife's birthday. I'm probably going to be out to dinner with her then (it's dinner time for us folks in the left coast).

Don't scare me like that! No, we are not expecting another...one is quite enough for us. I was talking about Michael...

  • kate5000kate5000 Member Posts: 1,271
Yeah, Serge, for one moment you had all of us wondering...

    How 'bout "LonggggIslandddd"?
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
  • lilbluewgn02lilbluewgn02 Member Posts: 1,089
Nope, it's only one word...no pauses, especially no pregnant pauses!
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
    Ken--
I thought Patti had said before that she had two herniated discs in her neck? Definitely surgery for that.

Patti, hope you're fixed up and feeling better soon.

Just a quick note on the new Subaru Card. I called Chase last night asking what happened to the card I switched to approx. 4-5 weeks ago. Turns out they had no record of it, so we went through the whole process again. If any one is still waiting on their cards, check to see that Chase has it on record that you applied.

Spent 2 days in Raleigh, 4 in San Juan, 2 in DC, back home until Monday until I head to Boston for 3 days. Taking a long time to clear the backlog of posts, especially in that "Forester v. Santa Fe v. CR-V v. Tribscape v. Vue v. the world" thread. Doing in-house training next two days so no real respite. Hope to make chat tomorrow night.

Patti: sorry to hear about your disability. Hope you get that taken care of soon.

    Dennis: hit 1,000 miles yet?

DC crowd: sorry couldn't make time. Basically in last night, out tonight. Kind of like that trip to Baltimore when I caught Loosh's band.

Rented a V6 Sonata in Raleigh. Pretty impressed. Came with their version of Sportshift (licensed Porsche Tiptronic IIRC?) which was a bit crisper than the Legacy GT. Torque steer pretty pronounced though. Hyundai went overboard trying to fancy things up IMO and some trim comes off looking like Lincoln. Exterior too busy, rear 1/3 of car dead ringer for Mercury Sable.

Didn't drive in PR, but noticed Mitsubishis make up a vastly greater percentage of vehicles on the road than here - more common than Hondas or Toyotas. Most were Mirages, many of which tarted up to look like Lancers Evo IV, V and VI (including coupes which fool no one). Montero Sport badged as "Nativa" there. Very few Subarus seen - 2 Legacys, 2 Foresters, 1 WRX, 1 old-school GL with multi-colored doors and fenders.

I am up in Burlington, VT at our sister plant (IBM) for a few days. Still trying to finish up issues encountered in last months trips to the West Coast and Japan. Hopefully life will settle down soon. All work surrounding FIB (Focused Ion Beam) systems for advanced microchips.

Serge: Good job, you taught him well (former resident of Massapequa).

Patty: No fun. I have been popping Advil and muscle relaxers as the back went 'twang' when emptying the mowers grass catcher last week.

Steve: tweaked mine Friday on a grass fire, and again today on a trauma/extrication drill. Have found naproxen (OTC: Aleve) to be a good friend. Take 2, they're small :)

    Cheers!

But you gotta admit, that over the top trim is a hit with certain, um, demographics! I see a lot of them on the road here in downtown Mobtown.

I can empathize with the aches and pains (do you know how OLD we all sound!), but at the current time the only illnesses I have are MENTAL!!!
    Brenda leaving them wondering ....
  • bluesubiebluesubie Member Posts: 3,497
Yes, I hit 1,000! Funny how my mpg's went down as my foot got heavier.
Took a drive just north of 78 in Hunterdon(?) county over the weekend. The difference in the twisties was amazing compared to the OBS. I was driving them at about 6/10's while the OBS felt like 10/10's.

I was gonna say, no time for a cold one, Ed?

Note that Hyundai calls their tranny "Shiftronic", just like Subaru. I wonder who makes it and if it's related to the one in the 2.5 GT.

Loosh: that's nothing compared to the "Gold Trim" packages Toyota offers from the factory. OE Bling Bling, gotta love it!

The old Mirage my wife owned before we were married was sold to a guy who was taking it to PR. Maybe Ed saw it, LOL.

Let's see...weren't the demographics of Subie owners: engineers, teachers, accountants, technically trained, above average income, higher average AGE than Accord & Camry owners, ...

On the other hand, we've got guys like Mike (paisan) autocrossing to keep the rest of us young.

(But I guess the demographics are changing thanks to the WRX. Where do some of these late teen/early 20 somethings get the money to buy these cars???)
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
where they get the $ from. It's crazy. I just shake my head.

    -mike
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I dunno, there are lots of older WRX owners, too. It's a pretty diverse crowd.

Thought it adheres to the basic demographic formula less than any other model, i.e. it reached out to a new buyer base (names other than "Dave" or "Mike") as well.
