    Good point, Brenda.

Use Babel to translate, and that's about what most phrases sound like.

Ken, you might find something to submit. I had a couple of classes in Japanese culture and a crash course in the Japanese language. I learned why translations can be so difficult.

If you get a chance, check out some of the signs that are on this site from various places in Japan.

My freshman english teacher taught us to eliminate "engfish" from our vocabulary. It's funny, in high school they teach you fancy words, then in college they teach you not to use them.

I had a collection of phrases I collected from my time in Hong Kong. You inspire me to dig it up. In the meantime I'll share two that I remember:

The MAN ON Fire Equipment Company.

A print of television reporter named Pubic Ha.

I know that my attempts at Cantonese while there probably resulted in worse!

That's great site! I just forwarded the link to my son who was an English major in college!

I remember trying to read the owner's manual from my first Honda motorcycle, back in the 1960s. It was hilarious!

Got back from Panama City Beach last night. 6K miles in 2 weeks including 5 days in FL.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words regarding MoMo. We buried him in the backyard this AM. Miss that little guy.

The trip was good. Only snags were a cut tire (bad) and snow (good). Cut the tire on a 3/4" spade bit while in Florida. Right on the shoulder of the tread. This was one of my new 950s with only 3k miles on it at the time. Called a Bridgestone dealer regarding road hazard warranty and the would only accept it with sales receipt from another factory dealer. Not an affiliate or TireRack. Called TireRack and they admitted to having no road hazard warranty but did ship me a new 950 for half price plus shipping. Glad I had that FS spare.

Ran into snow in northern Texas. Decided to take 2 lane rather than getting on I-40. Had a blast for the next several hundred miles. No traffic at all and just cruised along in the snow. As usual still love this GT. Even with limited ground clearance (than an OB) and the 950s the car handled great in the bad weather. Had to break for a dear and a coyote but never lost control at all. We averaged high 20s MPG with one tank just under 31 mpg.

Great to be back. Now on to 2 weeks of posts to read.

Bob: try reading the instructions to install Subaru accessories. Must've been the same guy!

Or IKEA instructions. They should award a degree in Engineering to whoever figurs it all out on the first try.

Sounds like fun Bit. Bummer about the tire, at least they worked with you.

I get the login thing too. I did go and register though, but it still gave the message.

There was a 'share photos' tab. I wonder if it will give you a link there for us to hit your album. Can you try that?

Yep, I'm getting that invitation expired message also. FWIW, none of the other links work either.

Future shop does not allow links to post photos to other sites, The explanation I got for the change was that when they did allow links, people were using it inappropiately and posting tasteless stuff so they cut out the links.

It looke like some of the other sites are following suit, I think imagestation has gone the same way.

    Cheers Pat.
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
just makes you 'register' with 'em to view pictures. and my pic insert links in my profile still work at this time (knock on wood).

    -Brian

  • hondafriekhondafriek Member Posts: 2,984
I opened an account with imagestation, but when I enquired about the links they said they did support them, because of this information I have not tried to move any of my albums from future shop to there.

BTW. I just checked my profile in imagestation and I don't see anything about the links you are talking about.

    Cheers Pat.

Hello everybody from Firenze (Florence), Italy. My wife and I are here until Monday when we return to the States via Paris. We spent Thanksgiving in Paris, went to Venice Nov. 30 through Dec. 4 and have been in Florence since.

We have done day trips to Siena, Pisa and today to Bologna. Not much worth seeing in Bologna except that I stumbled onto the opening day of the Italian national motor show. I got a lot of great pictures, especially at the Subaru display where I saw the 2003 WRC car, the new Imprezas WRX and STi, and some alternate-fueled 2.0L Foresters and Imprezas. In addition, there were some police and military versions, including unmarked WRX wagons used by the Italian state police.

More when I return in a couple of days. Glad we missed the storm and hope all made it through okay.

    Ed

PS: Serge, we hit your gelateria twice - wonderful, but there are dozens to choose from here!

I was talking about my pictures in my profile. Click on subearu above here and you'll see 3 pics linked from imagestation and then towards the bottom are 3 album link urls.

    Have fun!

This place is great, Ken's in Japan, Ed's in Italy, and we can live vicariously through all these world travelers. Heck, I'll be in Brazil in a couple of weeks.

Still haven't seen Pat's photos, how can I get to them? I register, but it doesn't go to any album, and says the group invitation expired.

H6 in the Base Outback sounds great! Why does Canada get it, and heated seats on the WRX, and not the US market?

    -juice
  • hondafriekhondafriek Member Posts: 2,984
There is a link to imagestation over in the photo gallery.

I will never understand car makers reasoning to offer different models between Canada and the States you would think both markets were so close it would not make a diiference.

    Cheers Pat.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Maybe if it were to test a niche car's new engine or something, but the H6 is already here in other models, so in this case it doesn't make sense to me.

But I was predicted the base Outback would get an H6, so someone owes me a cold one. :-)

Just got back from Japan yesterday morning. Hopefully, I'll be getting my FedEx package of Subaru brochures and videos soon! That, along with cups and cups of coffee are the only thing keeping me from falling asleep!

Binderclips and toothpicks! Have you guys ever watched that skit on SNL where Chris Farley and a bunch of other guys talk about "don't you hate it when..." and mention stuff like that?

juice -- actually I grabbed two sets of everything (except the videos) so I was going to forward a set to one of you over in the East Coast to share.

  • ladywclassladywclass Member Posts: 1,713
I thought it was when Billy Crystal was on that they did the SNL .. don't you hate it when skits ...
I remember in the early 80's those were on and I was working in the corporate executive offices of a large bank holding company in Houston. I was the secretary to the VP of Personnel, with the secretary of the CFO's desk next to mine. I would call her on the phone and say things like, "Don't you hate it when you're typing a document and you roll back to the beginning to proofread .. and you know how you sometimes stick your tongue out when you're concentrating really hard ... and if you do that while you're proofreading and you get your tongue in the carriage of the typewriter?" (Yeah, this was before everyone had a computer on their desk!) She also watched SNL and it was so funny to watch her try to stay "serious" and not let a GUFFAW out!

I knew you'd take care of us. I'll have to invite a few locals to come see it on my 91" huge screen projector. :-)

I do remember that skit. "I hate it when that happens!"

I'm not sure if it's in my future, but I'll start bugging as soon as I'm more confident in my movement. I'm having to avoid the mall and crowded places (a nice bump can cause a problem) so holiday shopping has been fun. All on-line or from the television! I'm going to have to provide a nice tip to our UPS guy! This is not a bad way to shop!!!

Great photo's! The pooches are really cute. My in-laws have a three legged Pomeranian (shelter rescue) that looks a lot like yours.

Thanks for sharing them and getting the links to me.

So after you're rested, should those of us on the left coast have a get together? I figure there are at least three of us around the SF Bay Area?

  • hondafriekhondafriek Member Posts: 2,984
The little Pomeranian is my daughters she was home from Korea for a few weeks in June and was visiting with us,the photos of the furniture is all stuff I have made this is my second hobby after cars.

Come on up... soon as we get some snow!

There are 4 quality areas within a 1-to-2-hour drive of here... relatively cheap vs. the "name" resorts. Picture a Subaru caravan to the lodge... I'll anchor the tables, maybe even strap on some rental gear (all my stuff is way too old)... then another caravan to somewhere (anywhere!) with a hot tub to relieve all our aches!

    Cheers!

    Jim,

Sure, I'd love to do that. It's kind of strange that after all these years on Edmund's I've met more folks on the East Coast (juice, Mike S., Loosh and Bob), albeit it was this past fall.

Who else here is local? Kate, are you out there?

There are regular i-club meets, but I haven't been gone to any of those. Plus, I suspect they're 99% Impreza owners and rather young. Not that I have anything against that, but I'm assuming the commonality with a Gen-X Forester owner might be kind of light.

Glad you enjoyed the gelati and Italy.

Bologna is where I lived for almost 3 years...beautiful city, especially the restored center, and wonderful food. Did you climb the Due Torri (two towers)? nice view from up there; all the red tile roofs; they call Bologna the Red City, not for the roof tiles, but for its politics, a stronghold of the (rich)Italian Communist Party at one time. A friend once told me that there aren't any poor people there...Bologna has the highest pecentage of indiviual shop ownership in Italy.

I had an apartment in a place called Palazzo Bentivoglio; built in the 1200's or 1300's, walls 2 feet thick and COLD in the winter. The Bentivoglios were the ruling family of Bologna back then.

The University of Bologna is the oldest university of the Western world...Galileo taught there, and I almost got arrested there by undercover Carabinieri for taking photos during a student demonstration...I took some photos of the police; these were confiscated almost immediately...there were still problems with the Brigati Rossi then (Red Brigades, a leftist terrorist group).

and now, time for more ice cream!

    Just a few things...

Anyone in the NY/NJ/PA/CT area that wants to help raise $ for The American Cancer Society and have the time of their life should check out "The 48hrs of Tri-state" http://isuzu-suvs.com/events/48hrs-2/ This is the 2nd Annual event where we drive around the Tri-state area covering almost 1300 miles of Interstates, Backroads, Dirt Roads, Snowy Roads, Rainy Roads, Sunny Dry Roads, you name it!

You can come to one of the meets (LI, Albany, Rochester, Niagara Falls, Pittsburg, Philadelphia, Allentown, Woodbridge) some people opt to drive one or 2 legs or the whole thing!
