We got a dusting this morning, too. Hope that's it for the season.

We are still not half way through March yet and winter does not usually leave these parts until mid April at least.
Cheers Pat.

As for new product ideas... I guess you could check out my rant over in the Future Vehicles discussion. ;-)

I'm not working full time yet, so I'm still getting caught up. As pricing is released for all of our new models I'll post it. I'm sure Edmunds will be on top of the announcements too!
Juice - thanks for tryihng to keep me in the loop while I was "down and out"!
Ross - That doesn't sound like a restful retirement! At least you know how much you are needed in this world.
Great news on Marianne, Don! We're all pulling for her. She must be really strong to go on a ride while she's fighting so hard.
Ian - I'll get to Future Models soon. So much to read - - - so little time!!

sounds like an idle issue. It may be set to auto disconnect on a timed idle basis. Might need to deactivate that feature. Losing previous pages could be storage of history.
Hope the IT people know what I'm talking about.

Now the "Future Models" forum can be used for mainly posting "news" regarding upcoming Subarus, and this "Suggestion" forum will be allocated to our suggestions, wants and desires. I think this is good.

Bit: thanks for the help, I have a game plan now for that soffit. Won't work on it 'til next weekend at least, though.

I think a thread with such info should be established at the official SoA site, my.subaru.com as an example, and linked there from Subaru Crew here at Edmunds. I do agree that the info will be beneficial, however, it may suffer some credibility since it's not a Subaru doctrine.

If anything, there are two "Problems" topics that are redundant, those could be combined.
I like mike's idea of putting general specs/tips up on a certain web site, maybe in an FAQ format.

Anyway... Juice you talked about replacing your porch soffet with "OSB plywood", but that's a contradiction in terms. OSB (oriented strand board) is not plywood. It's a panel made from flakes (strands) of wood and glue. Plywood is made from "plys" of veneer.
I'm not just being picky here. I work in the wood products industry and the two products are quite different, each having its own advantages and disadvantages.
OSB is more uniform, denser, and less expensive. Plywood is more water resistant, lighter for a given strength, and has knots and occasional voids and splits.
For your application, I would have chosen plywood (especially if you plan to cover it with vinyl soffet material). If you actually used OSB rather than plywood, I would recommend venting the space well to minimize the chance of moisture problems.
Just my 2 cents.
And WOW, you were quick on fixing the damage. Lots of people (myself included) would put it off until the weather warms up.

james: actually, what I got is a combination of the two. Looks like two plys of wood and a veneer of OSB on the outer layer, primed, and intended for exterior use. Indeed it's smooth and ready for paint or whatever.
Now I gotta get those pix up.
The stuff is *expensive* though. $24 a pop for a 4'x8' sheet, 3/8" thick. The other option for exterior use was plain old plywood but with a textured outer layer for $15, but it didn't come primed. At the time I thought I was going to paint so I decided to spend the extra $45 (for 5 sheets) and get the pre-primed stuff.
I guess if I had known I was gonna use vinyl soffit all along, I could have just used cheaper pressure treated plywood. Oh well. Insurance gave me $335 after my deductible and I think I'll just about break even so I'm happy.
We did get a little warm up last weekend. Today is nice too.
I need gas for Sandy and passed about 7 gas stations on the way to work today - cheapest one was $1.839! Ouch.

It will get worse before it gets better.

I agree about engineered wood... definitely the way of the future. Second-growth trees are not suitable for large, solid dimensional lumber. Wood I-beams are lighter, stronger, and consistently straight.
I work for a veneer manufacturer and a large portion of our production goes to Roseburg's "EWP" (Engineered Wood Products) Plant.

We have a lot in common. I also have a Forester L and two kids.
We'd be glad to help out with whatever issues/questions you have, it's why we're here. Personally, I've developed some close friendships, people I've known now for over 4 years, via Edmunds.com.
Stick around, you never know when a knitting question will come up! Or just stay and chat with us. If you feel up to it, we host a live chat tonight at 9pm EST, follow the link on the left column above.

Now a house that was perfectly comfortable before is now suddenly not fit for the pigs, so all manners of touching up and painting are the order of the day.
Cheers Pat.
Cheers Pat.
Using my conversion calulator, that is $3.48 Canadian per U.S. gallon or at today's exchange rate, $2.32 American for one U.S. gallon
<rant off>...thanks for listening.

Never mind that the origional purpose of taxes on gas was for transportation but has been used for everything but.
How much of this 5 cent grab do you think will actually go to the stated purpose.
Cheers Pat.
Ross, O.K. so your gas is cheaper in Courtenay, but now tell us about that 1 1/2 inches of rain you got today. ;-)

But regular at 2.10 is common, I pay 2.36 for premium. Last night on the news they showed a lone station advertising 3.19 for regular, 4.29 for premium, but looks like the owner is making a statement rather than making a serious pricing decision. Whatever, his station is mighty empty right now. Here is link to local TV station http://www.kfmb.com/topstory14293.html
All for now,

Tracy: Always questions on software, rarely on knitting!! My wife is heavily into embroidery (digitized sewing machines).

I have a knitting question: how do I keep my wife motivated to finish that baby pillow? I mean, the baby is almost a toddler already! :-)

I wonder if we would be better off with high gas price coupled with lack of income tax? That's the European way and that is the way it's done in Montana. They had $1.60 when Wyoming had $1.00 6 years ago. No sales tax though. Is is more or less fair than income tax? Don't know but it would encourgage fuel conservation. Of course like high cigarette taxes designed to discourge consumption, if the idea works the tax revenue bombs. I see two sides here.

Here's a mothering phenomenon for you. The first kid gets tons of pictures, scrap books and all types of mementos. The second gets a bunch, but with not quite the enthusiasm as was given the first. The poor third child? He practically has to take his own photos of himself! OK, so maybe I exagerated a LITTLE, but just wait and see!
