    Adding to the moral.
Failure is a failure, only when you fail to learn from it. :)

Took me 7 years to finish undergrad :( I switched schools 1x, majors 3x, and did 5 6-month internships @ the electric company in NJ. I learned a lot by doing undergrad that way but am glad I'm done now :)

kate:"All this said, I would not let my boy to jump the grades. Let him play with his toy trucks and coloring books as long as he wants!"

Hey I'm STILL playing with my toy trucks :) It's just a $30K one now, hee hee.

    Happy b-day Pat.

lark: that explains why you're always in a hurry, LOL.

Papa Bear's story reminds me of mine, sort of. My first semester in college I commuted, and managed a 3.7. That was with my dad telling me to study every day.

2nd semester I moved on campus. Freedom! Woo-hoo! I partied hard and enjoyed every minute. GPA went down to 2.7. Whoops.

Fortunately I settled in a maintained a 3.2 GPA after that, then a 3.4 in grad school.

Like the man said, it was good to learn the lesson early.

Pat: Happy Birthday! I'll spare you & the crew from my singing, as my gift to you.

And, on a professional note, be careful with all those candles! :)

    Cheers!

I have planning my first period this morning (got an ESE class today).
Happy Birthday, Pat; Have a Guiness on me!
Kate, Congrats to you and your daughter on her incredible achievement. It's wonderful to hear that kind of news these days.

I think I may have the record for the longest time to get a degree here: 13 years. I came out of Brooklyn Tech HS (another specialized here in NYC) thinking I knew it all. I managed to stay in school for 3 years, barely, due to too much goofing off before taking a year off. Went from going for a degree in Mechanical Engineering (what I studied in HS) to being a shipping clerk, to working in Wall St and finally getting a degree in Business Mgmt.
I have to admit though, I would not change the way things happened too much as it was a great learning experience.
After all, it helped shape me into the man who bought a Subaru and met evryone here!

    Pat: Happy B-day!

Loosh: I didn't know what the "Happy fish of April" was until I did a little Googling:
    http://www.pilotelanguages.com/Seasonal.html

Mark: I didn't know you went to Tech. Paisan and I went to Stuy. Let's hear it for the public school systems. I've benefited from high school all the way to grad school.

    Ken,

It's okay. I don't hold it against Mike and you where you went to school:-). I always felt a public school education is more rounded than private. That's an argument I have all the time with my wife.

    Juice,
I've been searching for the article as well and can not find it.

I'm eating some grilled turbot right now.

    April Fish! ;-)

I did both, private from 7-11th grades and public the rest of the time, including college. Each has its own advantages.

I think an individual who is more independent will enjoy the resources of a big, public school, while someone preferring personal attention would be better off in private school. At least that's my experience.

I sent a fax copy of the article to the email address in your profiles. If you can't read fax attachments, let me know a fax number and I'll send it again.

Thanks. It ought to come in the mail today. Usually I get it on Monday, sometimes as early as Friday.

Bob gets it before me, even though he lives in the Boondocks! Go figure.

Yes, there is certainly a tradeoff in class/school size and resources when going public. I went to private school from grades 5-8 so I know how different the two can be.

In general, private schools will have more money to allocate to facilities and resources. However, you're also exposed to a much narrower slice of the population. Competitive public schools tend to attract a much more diverse student body that in itself is an education. Stuy offered one of the most diverse student bodies I've ever come across.

Not suprisingly, I feel you become even more well-rounded by going to both public and private schools.

Yeah, I guess ponies can't read else they'd hold Bob's issue hostage also! ;-)

Sorry, I have to joke, it's my only way to cope with my car mags being MIA!

As a birthday gift to myself I just ordered the JDM clear tailamps which I think should have been on our cars from the beginning, the rest of the world gets them.

The 2000 model forester also got the clear tailamps.

      Cheers Pat.

Well as you can see below, Subaru sales were up overall for the month of March 29%, with Forester sales up 48%.

01-Apr-2003 14:53 DJ *DJ Subaru of Amer: March Forester Sales Up 48% >J.SXU
    01-Apr-2003 14:51 DJ +DJ Subaru of Amer March Sales Up 29% >J.SXU

I wonder how much of that is due to the incentive financing?

When is your car's birthday? I usually get something for mine.

We should add that to the "You know you're a car guy when..." list.

Got that e-mail, too. Very cool to see 3 Crew members in print on the same page! A co-worker in Europe already noticed my name.

Losing power can be risky for any computer, regardless of the OS. You just never know what's going to happen when the power cuts off unexpectedly. We have clusters of several hundred Linux systems at work. When there's a power failure, it's expected that a couple of the machines will need some disk repair when we bring the systems back online.

Personally, I have found OS X to be far more robust and reliable than OS 9 (my OS X systems have uptimes measured in months).

I picked up the Titan on 16th March 2001.

If I suggest buying something for the car on it's birthday, Rita will definitely think it is time I was in a rubber room.

Hi, I've been lurking here consistently for about a year and a half. I thought about registering several times but never got around to it; I tend to procrastinate. I was looking through some old email a few weeks ago and discovered that I registered here in May 1998!

    Welcome Dave :)

Question: Do you wax the back of the wheels?

    Thanks for the welcome, Dave.

"Question: Do you wax the back of the wheels?"

Not yet, but I've been seriously considering it. Obviously you guys are affecting my sanity! The last time I rotated the tires there was probably a negative wind chill. I know, not a legitimate excuse.

    Agreed, Loosh.

If you like that flavor of humor, check out Bank Swirled, a spoof of Bank's World. I could not get to the URL because they had exceeded their bandwidth for the day, but I got a paper copy. It's hilarious.

For example, last year they changed our motto to say "Our mission is to end poverty for ourselves and our families. Forever."

They also joke about raising the CAFE at the Bank to 9mpg. A few jokes about luxury cars in our garages here and there.

And they say "Printed on paper manufactured from original growth virgin mahogany tees clear-cut from Amazon basin rainforests".

I'll insert the standard statement that the above is satirical and not my empolyer's opinion, etc.

4 Subies and he's named "Dave"? Welcome home! Warning: when we ask for you, be prepared to have approximately 716 people think we're asking for them. ;-)

Thanks everyone for the warm welcomes. It's nice to be among a group where I'm considered "normal".

Now that the weather is warming up, I better go out and wax the back of my wheels.

    Happy Belated Birthday Pat!

Like Ed, my daughter was due on 4/1 but she surprised us and arrived on 3/17 (St. Patrick's Day). So, instead of being a Fool, she turned out to be a Lucky Charm.

BTW, it took me 12 yrs. to get my BS degree in Computer Science w/ a Minor in Accounting. Jeez, one more year and I would have tied Mark for the record.
