Just as well; you didn't say your offer was good until midnight, and if they wanted to accept your offer, they should have done so as soon as you started walking out.

So on the Boeing's 737 Max saga. It's not bad enough that Boeing made couple of those MCAS related safety features (conflicting angle of attack sensor readings warning on a general display and dedicated warning light) optional, it seems they didn't even tell Southwest those things were optional and turned off on their planes. So the company first makes a decision that it would be a great idea for an extra profit opportunity for some safety feature to be an option then it apparently forgets to upsell the customers and forgets to say anything in its manuals. They finally mentioned it to SWA after first crash (Lion) that ya know, this light is dead and your general message computer won't say a peep if it gets two conflicting angle of attack messages. BTW, don't worry, computer uses one sensir anyway, so what's the problem? BTW, Airbus uses three. How dumb are these people in charge and what other great ideas they came up in the process?

Remove those ghastly bumpers and I think they are kind of cool, especially relative to other toys intended for the same demographic. I doubt there is much upside in them though, as I recall them being lukewarm at best performers.

Could have signed an offer....$25000 until 12 p.m. date etc. But, that would take guts - you would have to know you really wanted the car. My friend bought a demo Genesis at the end of the year to use in the winter (His SR4 wouldn't go in the snow) and he loved it for about 3 months...it had a lot of content for a low price, but, he got tired of it and traded it in. He bought it cheap but it depreciated quickly as the next generation was a much better car. That's why I like tried and true.....I don't want to be the guinea pig with a wannabe.

Sad, so many lives lost because of this very stupid mistake - an optional safety light.

Good article that explains why they had to go with a 6 instead of V8. Mainly Chrysler only had big truck engine V8s at the time. Also, they went with a 4 speed automatic.

It seems Chrysler developed this car to make something unique, something that would stand out, but it was also an exercise in how to work with aluminum....which was the future.
One dud car that had promise and I am ashamed to admit we owned one was a 74 Mustang II. Cute little thing....no power, and felt like you were sitting in a bathtub.

You crack me up... A Genesis is hardly a wannabe especially now. It is just another player in the luxury market.

I'll admit that Hyundai is slow getting the dedicated Genesis network up and running but once they do and add a few entries I just can't see how companies like Lexus, Acura and Infiniti wouldn't be a little concerned

They need an SUV like the RX350 / QX60 / MDX

I remember the first Prowler I saw on the road, I was still a student, I think I was walking home from the store or from class. It was purple, and it really stood out. Mopar was the design standout back then, too bad they had other issues.

I'll admit I don't mind the looks of the Mustang II fastback, especially in some of the garish trim packages.

Had a successful AM. Loaded DW after breakfast, went to run it, and control panel was dead. No light when pushing any button. Flipped breaker labeled DW, nothing. Started discussing with wife if worth paying to gave repair people out for an 8 YO unit. Decided to go flip some more breakers (none were tripped) just in case. Either that, or just from banging the door a few times, and the lights were back and it works!

No clue if it’s a loose connection someplace. I’ll probably never find out. But will be happy if it keeps working since don’t want to pay to fix or replace. Probs better to replace at this point. One hassle is that it’s a Panel ready model, but I think if we replace will go with stainless for 1/2 the price and many more options.

I doubt that it's a breaker. Since you mentioned banging the door, I'm leaning towards a bad door closed switch or adjustment of it. Years ago my next door neighbor asked me to look at his dish washer because it suddenly stopped working. I took of the front panel off and adjusted the door close switch by loosening it's mounting bracket and sliding it in it's mounting slots. It looked like it was barely making contact right out of the factory. If this solves your problem, just submit payment via Edmunds Easy Pay System and they'll forward it to me.

Not that I don’t think. The panel should light up when you open the door (buttons are on top edge of the door) but they were DOA. Unless you are saying the switch might not recognize the door open all the way? I usually think of that if it won’t turn on when closed. Just had to deal with that on microwave.

Without seeing the schematic for your dishwasher, I'm just doing some guessing here but it shouldn't take more than 20 minutes to pull the front panel off and looking. Of course you know to turn off the the breaker before doing this. I don't want to be responsible for seeing a pic of you with your hair standing at attention.

When I redid our kitchen, I put a switch under the sink to be able to shut off the DW. Probably overkill, but if it ever needs to be shut off in a hurry it will be easier than running the basement and flipping breakers.

our breakers are easy. Out in the garage. The DW is plugged in behind it I think.

at this point, I'm not trying to take it apart myself. I replaced the broken rollers, that was easy, but not comfortable messing around in the electronics. Will pay the service call for that! Unless we decide to just replace it instead, in which case, I got nothing to lose if I mess it up.

Don’t beat yourself up, the mid 70s were dark days for sports cars. By 75’ a big block Corvette was putting out less than 200 hp. and most cars were wallowing around with railroad tie bumpers.

On the bright side those Mustang IIs are also starting to develop a collector base. You should have kept it.

Some years ago, our local GTG car club got an invitation to get rides in one of the early VW CUV self driving cars. The VW CUV was capable of carrying 5 PASSENGERS. The person sitting in the normal drivers position was instructed to NOT touch the steering wheel, brakes or transmission. These sets of prototypes were being readied for DARPA https://dtdnnp-01.darpa.mil/ desert trials.

I've got good news and bad news about the Vanilla software.

The good news is that the pull-downs for emoticons and pictures seem to work again.

The bad news is that it seems you can no longer click on a user name and then in their profile click to read all of their comments. That has disappeared.

I guess software updates are now being done using the barter system, where something is only provided if traded for something else.

I just signed up for a very interesting seminar. The keynote speaker is the owner of a large dealership group who has created a centralized fraud team to handle cyber security, fraud detection, and fraud prevention for all of their stores. Having seen the damage fraudsters can do to both financial institutions and dealers this should be very interesting.

Here’s a story with a happy (I hope) ending.

Ford has had a history of paint problems on their aluminum hoods. My 15’ Mustang was no exception. In summer of 2017 @ 9000 miles I noticed some bubbling on the center leading edge. Took it to the dealer and they got Ford to approve a repaint under warranty.

Fast forward to this spring. I take the car out for the first time and notice similar a problem on the outboard edge of the hood. Disappointed since the car still only has about 12k miles. But it’s out of warranty now.

Went through the same procedure at the dealer except this time Ford denies the claim. Seems I’m SOL. Same day I get an email from the dealer with one of the routine “how was your visit?” questions. I decide to vent a bit and tell them how disappointed I was with Ford’s decision especially since the car had such low mileage. Didn’t expect anything to come of it.

Today I get an email from the owner saying the dealership will do the second repaint on their own to insure my satisfaction. I was pretty impressed that they would do this. The car goes in next week.

I've driven one. They are actually more competent than you might expect, and fairly quick and fun--but the lack of a V8 and a manual transmission make it a perennial odd-ball choice for a collector car. They do indeed sell in the $30K range if they are pristine. Auction values confirm this. I'm amazed that Chrysler even agreed to build it. Most of them have few miles on them.

Most really good to great cars are actually killed off. My parents had a 1986 Toyota Cressida Station Wagon. It sported a DEtuned Toyota Supra I-6 engine, mated to an Aisin AT. This thing ran up (7,285 ft) mountain roads like almost no other, it was powerful , bulletproof, etc., etc.

Both a gasoline V8 with 400 hp/# ft, & 2 diesels, 4 cylinder/V6 with 369# ft/406 # ft might top it.

HUH ??? You could have fooled me. I still cannot use the emotorcon thingy using Microsoft Edge. If I want to use emotorcons on my PC I have to use Microsoft MSN (maybe other browsers work but since MSN works for me that's what I use). Guess what I'm using to make this post ?

FWIW, the emotorcons work with my phone though.

Another FWIW, I got the "Howdy Stranger" page when I logged in with my PC today, with both Edge and MSN. I'd say it ain't fixed yet. It might be seamless but it ain't working right. :@

I would be more likely to buy a used Genesis than a used BMW or Mercedes. No way I would buy any car like that new, just too rich for my blood.

The difference there is that Toyota was already renowned for building quality vehicles and then took it to another level with the early Lexus models. Hyundai is known more for building good-value (some would say cheap) vehicles with plenty of gingerbread, not so much for legendary quality. Maybe they can achieve that with Genesis but they are starting from a different point.

I would disagree, if one understand the underlying assumptions.

1. Most German (from Germany) cars are subject to the 25% imported car tax. So a $50,000 USD car should sell for app $40,000 Germany/European markets. That is partially responsible for the early large depreciation - minus $’s values.

2. German cars are DIY to needing service, maintenance.

3. They are designed to 4/6 year engineering specifications. 4/6 years @ app 9,000 miles per yr = 36,000 miles 54,000 miles.) in the European markets.

I suppose Ford could argue that since the first time the dealer only painted the center part of the hood where the original corrosion occurred. Perhaps they should have painted across the entire front lip to be sure.

Regardless of what happened I don’t think I had a case once the warranty expired. The dealer did me a solid just because I didn’t have to spend time fighting with him. Ford has a 5 year rust warranty but they weasel out of it by stating they only fix “rust through” which wouldn’t happen in a hundred years with aluminum.

Funny thing, Ford has known about this problem since at least 2005 but didn’t fix It until 2016. Other car companies keep selling engines that blow up or trannys that fail early for years knowing that it will drive away buyers. Is it so difficult for them to change direction or is it a bean counter decision?

The Florida State Legislature (both Houses) just passed a new bill regarding “Texting While Operating A Motor Vehicle” (includes trucks, buses and motor homes)! The penalty is a PRIMARY OFFENSE with big dollar fines and points on your driver’s license. Governor DiSantos is expected to sign the bill into law this week.

Police are allowed to pull a driver over and ticket him/her if observed texting while operating the vehicle. This has been needed for a long time. So, I would advise anyone who is in Florida (residents or those on business or vacation) to heed this very carefully. Out of State license holders will have their home State DMV’s notified of the offense. Out of State drivers (licensed by another State) might have to appear in court from my understanding.

Warnings (written) will be given out until January 1st, 2020. After that, the law will be enforced with fines and points on your license. 1st offense is not too expensive but becomes more expensive with succeeding infractions.

original mustang was just a pretty Falcon. I always thought the Mustang II was going back to it's roots, not some sort of sacrilege.

The display screen in my car starts at the glove compartment and goes all the way to the left of the driver’s seating position - in other words it’s one screen that is 6” high (tall). The entire screen is shielded from the sun as well. I think you’d like that - I sure do.

Thanks oldfarmer....I don't feel so bad, some people like them. That was the big oil embargo period, so small 4 cylinders were in favor, and like you said, even Corvettes weren't that powerful. It was a second car for my wife to get to work....so it served its purpose well.
Looked like this but that isn't me in the picture...I'd have worn my Batman or Superman costume;

I would NOT be an early adopter of the first generation Genesis CUV/SUV. While to some it may “look” good to great, my take it’s a “me too” type product. Are there any words on prices?
