@mjfloyd1 , that is outstanding news that the disease was contained and that you seem to be recovering well.

That also sounds like a great deal on the Bosch battery at Pep Boys. I considered buying the Tahoe's battery there (and it might not have been installed incorrectly, if I had), but I think they charged for installation and the battery was similarly priced to Autozone.

@corvette , your posts bring back fond memories of my G37x, I still miss that car.

I always liked the g37. I actually found the perfect one a few years back at the local used guy I like. Probably around Christmas 2014. I think it was a 2012. Maybe a 2011. But loaded, only 20K miles and about $20K price. I would have grabbed it, if I hadn't leased my Sonata about 2 months earlier!

Thanks, I did! Next planned trip is to the Upper Peninsula in Michigan.

One of my friends saw the G for the first time a few days ago and asked how I liked it. I told her it was like a BMW that didn’t leak fluids in my driveway. She burst out laughing and said her best friend had just bought (presumably a used) BMW that was already spilling its fluids.   :p

Mjfloyd1, glad to hear all went well. Recovery after any surgery is hard for us guys over 60, but you seem to have bounced back very quickly. Wish you only good things going forward.

A co-worker of mine was out for 8 weeks after open heart surgery. They were going to use a couple of stents to open a couple of arteries but things didn't go as planned and, well...that was that. He's doing well now, came back to work on the 1st of may. He's our age also, over 60, and used to play a lot of baseball. He's had to put that on hold for awhile, but plans to resume playing once the doc gives his o k.
I know last year after my gall bladder surgery, I was pretty weak and was home for 6 weeks. But the sepsis and pneumonia that I had before entering the emergency room was working against me. All told, I passed out about six times and luckily my wife found me on the floor around 4 am that morning. They told me I got up to go to the toilet and passed out. I was connected to a few i.v.'s which made things a bit harder. Had a cat scan but have no memory of any of it, none at all! Ended up having a nurse stay with me for 48 hours and moved me to the closet room to the nurses station with some documentation outside my room. Was there two weeks and hated it the whole time. Have not been in a hospital since 1982, and it really did suck, big time!
Hopefully, I'll have good health for many years to come!

Picked up a few new Ford transit vans yesterday, brand new. Man, those suckers are pretty big! Have smallish tires also but a lot of room there to do a Plus 1 or Plus 2. Would look better also with more tire to fill up the space there also. Think it had a 2.5 engine and was surprised at how well it drove for such a large vehicle. On the second trip, I was next in line when they told us "no more for HLE" so, that was that. Ford did a good job with this vehicle and seems to be very popular as I think there's also a Ram vehicle that looks quite similar.
Going in at 7 am today as we're going on some kind of mission. Figure we might be going farther up north or possibly to the Ft. Myers area but will find out in a few hours.
Since I was off last Friday, had to make up that day yesterday but I was beat when I got home last night. Do much better only working every other day to be honest and the wife's totally on board with this. And it's nice to get a check every week to be honest. Not quite ready to retire again at this juncture...I'll know when the time is right. Last week really showed me that working those three days a week isn't really that bad. Stayed home due to those complications with my Clarifix procedure but by Thursday, was tired of watching t v and reading the newspaper. I like the driving part at work, hate the traffic though. And really enjoy driving the new vehicles so will stay for now.
Hoping Enterprise will call so I can see first hand how they do it. The closer commute would really be wonderful. But not holding my breath here. Hopefully my not taking that other job closer to the airport last year is not hurting me here. I was pretty upfront with the manager that I'd prefer to work for them closer to home and that Hertz was paying me more. I thought he understood and going on that assumption.

Ended up picking up a Bosch battery with a 4 year replacement warranty on sale at PepBoys for $146 and it also has a $40 rebate. I discussed battery replacement with the MB dealer and they charge 1.1 hours labor. He said you have to remove the front passenger seat. You really only have to move the seat all the way forward. You have to cut the carpet at the marks provided by MB to get the battery out. Simple process so I’ll do it with a friend (I still can only lift 10 pounds).

Have not had time to pick up loaner but they say it is available. I do not think that the parts are in yet.

I don't know if I came out and said it but I am 2.5 weeks out from robotic prostatectomy. Path was good and disease contained to prostate. Lymph nodes were negative. I stopped pain meds one week post op and started driving 10 days post op. I worked at 11 days post op as well. Laying in bed does not suit me well at all.

I'd like to say thanks to @thebean (Larry) and @28firefighter (Alex) for the PM's, texts and calls.

That is great news regarding your procedure! I have to say it warms my heart that in this crazy, crazy world we live in a couple of folks that you meet on a car forum provided you with great support.

RE: the battery change on the MB...WTx? Sounds like overly complicated engineering for the sake of overly complicated engineering!

Yes, that’s what I thought.  In addition we gain a little more cash flow since my oldest starts Kindergarten so down to only one tuition.

Not quite sure what I want to do with mileage.  I had been doing a 10K on my car and a 12K on my wife's which is what we drove the most.

With us being separate now, she is only doing 10 miles a day round trip to the train, I'm doing about 35 round trip.

I'm thinking I'll still do a 10K for my car and just have her take it two days a week.  That's what we are doing now since I took the car seat and booster out of my car and put them in my moms.  On school days I've been taking her car since school is down by my office.   I wanted my mom to be able to pick up the kids in an emergency if I was tied up.

Unless the backstory is another SUV is needed.

Knowing his commute, I would stay far away from something like a GTI. Plus AWD seems to be a requirement.

an X1 type could certainly work.

True, forgot about the commute. A GTI is probably a little choppy of a ride and would make a tire and wheel guy really happy given the roads.

xDrive X1 would fit the bill nicely. Wish mine was awd instead of fwd. Would probably make it more fun.

XC60, Infiniti SUV's are all available in AWD. Of course the plethora of Subaru's but that would be a shock to the system coming from the Q40.

Weird, but I haven’t felt the “twinge” of a car swap for a while. Closest was with the Stinger....but, I was more curious than serious about that car.

@nyccarguy - can't wait to hear of the replacement for the Q40. You seem to have become addicted to the V6 power of the Infiniti so my prediction is it's something along those lines. I saw the story on Jalopnik about the big discounts on Stingers so I emailed the local dealer to see if/when they would be getting any GT2 models with RWD. Herewith their response:
”I saw  you had a question regarding the Kia Stinger! We should be getting some in the future, but we won't know until they get in. The Stinger base model comes in rear-wheel drive if that would interest you! You have to see how they grip the road to get a true feel of how they handle!”

I guess I should be happy he picked up on the RWD requirement.

If I do get something it will almost certainly be the car my wife thinks I “need.” That’s assuming I can find a dealer who actually wants to sell one.
