took a big step today. Had the first discussion with the wife while out walking the dog about what the next car should be. Hey, it's only 2 years from when it's first possible! I think she was excited. Hard to tell. She should be though, since it will be her car!

Arbitrarily decided that the current short list includes the X3, Volvo XC40 and XC60, and the RDX. Seems like a good starting point. Entirely subjected to change of course.

graphicguy, get a 2018 or newer Air if you can. Smaller footprint and USB-C.

Based on what I’ve seen, Apple stopped optimizing its OS for spinning platter hard drives around 2012-ish. The iMac I had at the time really started to suffer until I put an SSD in it. The initial release of Windows 10 ran very well with a conventional hard drive. After a year or so, that was no longer the case. Bottom line, I don’t think you can expect good performance with any modern OS without an SSD boot drive. Only the 21” iMac comes with a conventional hard drive as standard equipment now (the 27” has a Fusion drive).

I agree. But, the new MacBook Airs with 8GB memory and 512GB SSD are about $500 more expensive than the 2017 version. Yes, better screen, finger print ID, and smaller form factor.

But, the 2017 version has the better keyboard, and of course is $500 less expensive. It has the SSD drive, too.

See there’s a good and bad to this technology in cars these days, Ha ha ha. Maybe your sister in law, should go up the ladder and talk to a manager at Akura directly, in case there’s any software updates or something probably she’s not the only one having this problem.

That might be my son’s bike. ;)

He rode 19 miles out there to meet me. I have fold-down rear seats. Took off the front wheel, and it fit right in the trunk. (Very tight).

I guess I would be in the minority, I would buy a nice low mileage lightning if I had the means and drove yes.   I neighbor where are used to live your single head to them first white one forget how many years he had that one before, and he had a red one. Forget what years they were I never asked. But he sounded good that’s for sure.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,815
I would not mind one if it was cheap, since it would serve as a toy (with a practical bent when needed!)

Problem is it is less comfortable, lower tech, crappier interior, and barely quicker than a current ecoboost supercrew. Maybe it turns better? But are you really buying a pickup for its handling?

    It is "cooler".

You could say that about almost every modern car, in comparison to it's predecessor.

I was a bigger fan of the Harley Davidson edition F150.

I'd prefer a Lightning to that. I think they only made the Lightning as a regular cab, so not super practical as a daily driver (although parking would be easy, since I think it'd be about the same length as my Tahoe). For a daily, yeah, a new F-150 with the Ecoboost would be great.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,815
lightning sounds better, and looks cooler. And yeah, moderately more compact and maneuverable.

I think a lot of trucks sell on the tacit pretense of "cool", and are then justified with a bi-annual trip to Home Depot/IKEA/the dump.

I think something like a lightning (or an El Camino) makes a good "toy" car. at least on occasion it has practical value.

I always liked the musclecar derivatives of the El Camino and Ranchero. As for “real” pickups I’d only take a Raptor, SRT-10, or maybe a Syclone.

I wouldn't dispute that. A lot of vehicles are sold/marketed on the pretense of the 'lifestyle' they represent: Wranglers, Subaru's and even the new Honda Passport. It seems to be marketed at more of the outdoorsy crowd.

Must work pretty well. You can't swing a broom around here and not hit a Jeep.

Oh yeah, outdoorsy cosplay lifestyle stuff probably leads to half of the car sales in the Seattle metro area. Sometimes it seems like every other car is a Subaru or Jeep, or maybe 4Runner/Taco.

Wranglers ARE EVERYWHERE around here. I wonder how much better the JL drives compared to the JK.

Well, the JK was miles and miles ahead of the TJ so I would think its an improvement as well. I'd love to test drive one but the temptation would be high!! The Subaru dealer is attached to a CDJR franchise.
