If the first payment isn't paid at signing, how is it accounted for? Rolled into the lease? That might account for the difference in payment, as that would add another $9/mo.
would you say this is the optimal balance between the two to go and negotiate the best lease deal? What is the optimal average numbers one should be looking for? Obviously lowest MF and Highest Residual, but in your experiences for any car or model, regardless of personal preference, which combination is the best you’ll get and shouldn’t wait for next months programs to be better?

I don't have any input on the results from an on-line calculator. Here at Edmunds, we just do the math.

First, reach out to multiple dealers.
Second, negotiate the best price - residual is set by the bank and the dealer cannot alter it.
They can, however, mark up the MF as much as .00050 - if you find that is the case, simply tell them you won't sign any deal with an inflated MF.
Ultimately, you may have to vote with your feet. You control the conversation; if you don't like what you're hearing, leave.
