i know everyone talks about high insurance rates in NJ but the property taxes are out of sight. figure about 2-3% of value each year. and homes are not cheap but you get alot more home than in CA for your buck.
Great chat, Santa even joined us. For those that missed out, he was there asking what we wanted...who knows!?
Some were asking for new Subies, but I was a little more realistic and asked for a WRC Blue jacket. Or door tweeters, for either of our Subies.
But I'd settle for World Peace.

I was at Churrasco's on Tuesday night with customers! It was my first, but definitely not my last time there! It is a true experience. The camprianna (sp?) was pretty good. A few of those, with all that beef, and you are feeling no pain:-)
Maybe we should go there after the NY Auto show this year.
Paisan qualifies for tri-state residency for all the traveling he does.

As far as Subarus go, it is currently a seller's market right now in the lower Hudson Valley area. Dealers here are starting at Kelly Blue Book retail, which is more than $2000 higher than Edmunds retail. The 2 recent fall snowstorms followed by rain with freezing temperatures reminded many of why Subarus are such great cars to have! The local Pennysaver had about 15 Subies listed -- only one was as new as 2000, and it had 102K miles. We really needed to replace the Neon (made in Mexico), so waiting for Spring or just the right deal wasn't an option.
So I am pleased to announce that effective tomorrow morning a blue 2001 Legacy L wagon will be joining SueBee in our driveway. The car is just off lease, with mileage just under 36K. The CARFAX report showed no accidents or other problems. Hard negotiated price was close to Edmunds retail. The dealer is changing all fluids (I dropped off the Mobil 1 last night), will change brake pads, etc, if wear is above 50%, and will include a new dog/cargo guard. We're pleased.
Next question, how easy is it to add a 6 CD changer -- easy enough for me to do?
Lyn
I added a 6CD from a WRX to our 2002 Legacy. It's not easy, but not really hard either. You need a very long phillips screw driver with a good magnetic head, that's the only special tool required.

In any event, we'll make Bob an honorary member -- just send us a picture; we'll prop it up on a chair for meetings and ask it for comments whenever the subject of towing capacity comes up. LOL!

Cheers Pat.

Then you'll have the last laugh. You're not the only one who tows!
Jim: I haven't shopped in a while, but I think someone in the Forester thread said they paid just $130, which is a steal. $100 is a Holiday gift.

As my luck would have it, there was a mess up at the port with options. The car came with a rear gate bar so I haven't decided whether or not to take it. I told the dealer I would give them an answer on Monday.
The car looks really sharp, but I'm undecided. There's a pic of the bar at the bottom of this page:
http://www.subaruparts.com/catalog/?section=431
On one hand it's functional (less fingerprints, etc.), on the other hand it clutters up the rear a little. It blends slightly with the rear bumper cover, but not as much as it blends with the dark OB in that pic (SG is PSM).
The dealer showed me the purchase order. The bar is actually an option that the Distributor adds. The dealer then goes in and deletes and adds the options to customize the order. The distributor or the port got RGB and RBC mixed up (rear gate bar, rear bumper cover).
Another order could take up to 2 months. I don't need it right away since the 85 318i with 100 pounds of sand in the rear is an "ok" snow car. :-)
Decisions! Ed, sorry to bother you during your landscaping but thanks. :-)
-Dennis
P.S. - A new reverse gear was put in the Rex. The total for everything came out to around $10,000 (estimated). I traded it in today.
You know my thoughts on the subject. If you can't live with the RGB but can wait 2 months, then don't. If you can, then enjoy your new SG-T.
Good luck,
Ed (SF, BDP)
but that's me ... not you who will be using the car ...
You were smart to trade it in, it would never have been the same after that.

Juice, Mexico is part of America (so is Brazil, eh?). No Mexican board members on DCX afaik tho :-)

Thanks
Somehow I must have missed Loosh's post. Remembered utahsteve's post on the codes.
Dennis-
I want a ride in it when you've got it
-Dave
I guess I would probably pass on the bar, I just don't like the look (especially on a silver car). But, it would not be an easy decision for me, especially if I waited a while for the car to come in.
Too bad the bar is not silver like the racks on the XT.
All that aside, congrats Dennis!
Craig
We have one on my wife's '03 Seamist green Outback and I love it. Our '02 Outback didn't have one, and it always had hand prints on the back. I wish I had one on my '01 Forester. Good luck with the new ride.

If you get a gate bar, check the sheet metal to make sure it wasn't dented during installation. Some DIY jobs have resulted in slight dents.

The finance guy at the dealer also suggested the tow rope for snowboarding/sledding idea. :-D
Dave - Will do on the ride. :-)
-Dennis
Cheers Pat.
Couldn't you have the bar painted PSM?
Since the dealer have the car, instead of having a Forester sitting in their lot awaiting a another buyer, maybe they'll paint it for you just to get it sold
-Dave
There are some close-up pics on scoobymods. Do a search or go through Legacy and exterior.
To make my decision harder, the car was freshly waxed and sitting in front of the showroom entrance!
-Dennis
Cheers Pat.
Maybe I'll just take the silver/silver STi on their lot instead. :-)

Cheers Pat.
He ended up making the dealer swap the car.
I trust that these guys wouldn't BS me. Can't say that about too many dealers.

P.S. Must be a USA only thing as Pat would have noticed them when he was waxing the door bottoms.
Yeah, Dave, I have a real problem with wax build-up on all the hidden VIN numbers on those panels, LOL.

Anyone else going on a Monday? :-)
Ken
Not sure whether its made it to America yet but Subarus sold around the rest of the world have hidden data dots sprayed through the paintwork over the whole car. Its a pretty effective scurity technique for preventing car rebirthing but makes swapping a panel a no-no.
Personally, I think the bar looks good and practical
Cheers

Now for something that’s totally out of character for me, I ordered after-market leather! Why you ask? Well I guess I wanted my Forester to be a little bit different and upscale. The dealer had a couple on the lot that they’d added leather to and those looked great so I decided to splurge. I picked a two-tone pattern that almost perfectly matches the interior color scheme (with perforated lighter colored inserts). The installer uses Katskin leather on all surfaces (not just seating) and I’m supposedly getting it at dealer cost ($1,200 - is that reasonable?) and it will be covered under the 3/36 warranty. Once I get it back, I’ll take some pictures and post them but it should look great.
Oh and I’ve no worries about the turbo being abused by someone else as it had 19 miles on the odo at delivery with 14 of those put on by me during test drives. However, I’m afraid that keeping it under 4k rpm for the break-in period is mission impossible. It literally only takes a second to pass 4k in first gear!
Speaking of break-in, one of the reasons I bought now is because I’m driving to western NC for the holidays and plan to put that turbo to use on a couple of long uphill hwy climbs that my previous Forester had difficulty climbing in 5th. I’m taking the back way there so I’ll have plenty of opportunity to vary the revs, check out some twisties, and hopefully enjoy some snow-covered scenery along the way.
Now on the subject of mods, I don’t see much reason to vary too far from stock given the XT’s already excellent setup but tightening the suspension a little seems to be in order. A bigger rear anti-sway bar is a given. How about a strut tower brace? Do they have those yet for the new model? I’m also considering a plus-one tire upgrade and the short-throw shifter from the WRX but want to get the feel of the stock components first.
FYI: The dealership was Subaru of Gwinnett (metro Atlanta county) and they have well over 100 Foresters on the lot. Oh yeah, the dealer adds another 9k to the factory warranty. Also, parked out front is an XT STi that they’ve created by adding 17” WRX rims and tires, a $3k custom turbo-back exhaust, fully adjustable coilover suspension and some tweaking under the hood. They also plan to upgrade the brakes and add a WRX STi turbo kit. They’ve already raced it a couple of times in regional autocross events and won one. It’s a pretty sweet ride and with the custom exhaust, sounds awesome too! To top it off the staff gets to use it to run errands (talk about perks).
-Frank P.
P.S. Loosh- You’re up!
I'm not listening!
Lalaladeelalala
Congrats, Frank! I'm jealous.
I can't remember if they have strut tower brace yet (need to work it around the ic). Try a search on nabisco. I've seen pics of Gwinnett's car and it looks great. Did you speak to Porter while you were there? He's the one that modded that car.
I'm 98% leaning toward taking the car with the rear gate bar and having it powdercoated.
juice - The snowboard thing was a joke. ;-)
-Dennis
Congrats on the XT's Frank & Dennis. Pics please! 8)
As a resident of the 'fence', I further envy you guys.
