Congrats on being a proud mom! Hope you and your daughter have a good time.

That's so cool that you know some of the people in the book. How often is it that a bunch of people you know actually get written up in a publication.

I said that the car listed was a 300 h.p. $30,000 STi, and should be labeled as such. I also said that it was in the wrong category.

Congratulations to Proud Mom! I know, it's an unbelievably satisfying feeling, to see your kid to have accomplished something in life.

For example, I'm still gloating ever since my daughter got accepted to Berkeley, and that's been a year ago (to add to the gloating: so far 6 exams -- all A's :-)

when is the house warming? and the Crew get-together on the beach? :-)

a lame excuse!! It's funny - three kids - all raised the same - two struggling to get through their education, one thriving in the formal school setting. My boys are very smart and articulate - but more of the "creative/artsy" types. Lauren is all about school. Very self motivated and regimented. When she jumped into the chat last Fall, it was so like her. She knew it was a "responsibility" for me and on her own, decided she needed to act. She knows that this crew is part of my family too!

Catch you all on the boards tomorrow. Time to go do her hair and be the Mom of a girl!

    Very cool, Patti.

I'm much worse, we once went to the National Zoo and the guide asked questions about the animals. Well, when my daughter got one right I was doing a victory dance!

Kate: you have ESP. We, um, put an offer on a condo yesterday. :-)

Would be funny if y'all both are bidding on the same property :D

It would, now wouldn't it? But it's not. Our's isn't a condo, for one thing. It would be our first house, after more years of renting than I care to remember. At 39, I'm a bit old for your typical first-time home buyer, but we all have to start somewhere.

Dan: Here's to us late bloomers!

    ...career change at 30+
...married, first & only time, at 31
...first & so far only house purchase at 32
...first child born at 35, second at 40, third at 41 (our bonus baby!)

Good things come to those who wait....

    Cheers!

    Patti-

Congrats to you and your daughter! You should be proud.
Regarding my friends OB, I told him to go to the dealer and have them look at it, but he's not too crazy about them. They are a little lackadaisial about their customer support (I've told him to change dealers, and to shoot an email to SOA complaining about them). That's one reason I don't go to them, even thought it is where I bought my OB. I passed on your suggestion- hopefully he'll listen to you and start something.

Thanks again Patti. Once again you show the differnece between Subaru and other manufacturers:-).

    I called it first, Dan!

Actually, they rejected our initial offer and we're negotiating, I think they expect too much though.

Yeah Juice, we've run into a fair bit of that too. Some folks think their property must be the only thing out there and figure they can ask for the moon. We actually offered full price on this one, since we found out that another offer had been sent that day. The home seems undervalued, so it should be a great deal if we can get it. We're waiting to hear this afternoon, as 7pm is their deadline.

Good luck with your negotiations. Maybe the current owners will wake up to reality for you.

We're going back and forth right now. We just made a best and final and if they're in La La Land then they can go find a buyer from there, it won't be us.

Anybody besides me have any problems with the CHAT last night? I was able to post only once, and I couldn't see most of the posts. I tried logging on several times, and then gave up. :(

I initially got into the chat at 8pm CST and was welcomed to the NON-java chat applet. I never made that change, have had the Java chat applet for as long as I've been a member. So, I went to my profile settings and fixed that setting, closed my browser and tried the chat again. All was well then.

The non-Java applet looks much different than the Java one, having a note about hitting REFRESH to see chatter.

  • hondafriekhondafriek Member Posts: 2,984
The non java is a pain in the butt, you have to refresh every time if I recall in order to post.
I have only used this method once as on one occasion for some reason it was the only way I could get in.

      Cheers Pat.

We saw you coming and going, but no one else seemed to have any big problems getting in.

I'll mention it to Mod-Bob and make sure he logs it. As far as I know, nothing was tweaked on site to cause your difficulty.

    Apologies!

A good bit of news. The owners accepted the offer, with some negotiation, so we will now be home owners. I will now have a garage for my Subie!! Yeah!!!! Yes, I'm a "little bit" excited, can anyone tell? You're next, Juice!

    -Dan-
  • subaru_teamsubaru_team Member Posts: 1,676
exciting times! Dan - are you going to invite us all to the housewarming? We'll even help polish up the Sube before it enters your new garage! Right crew? Won't we??

Juice - stay firm with your negotiations. Is the seller waiting to buy a new place? If yes, that'll help convince them since we're having beautiful spring weather and they'll want to get settled. Keep us in the loop!

Have fun people! Today a developer met our price for the 2.3 acres and house that we've lived in for the past 35+ years. Now to find a replacement. Now to go thru that accumulation of stuff!

I'm looking forward (as in direction not enthusiasm) to the day my dad sells home. We moved there when I was 6.1 yrs old and I'm now 46.9 so there's absolutely frightening amounts of stuff to go through. When we bought our current home 10 yrs ago I said the next time I moved would be either under a bridge or 6 feet under. I may eat my words and move to a 1 story house some day but if I do it will have to have a large garage with room for several cars.

Worked 15 hours yesterday. Promised a friend I'd get down to this bar and hear him play. By the time I got home to get Q it was 11:30 p.m. and neither of us wanted to, but we went down anyway. We called another friend to see if it was too late but he never answered his phone, so we just went.

No parking to be found. I was making a U-turn when BLAM I got sideswiped.

Now, here's the tricky part. Technically it was my fault for failing to yield right-of-way; neither I or Kirsten saw this car coming, honestly. We have 2 peds who say the car was speeding. It was two girls, tipsy, nice enough (once they calmed down). The driver was pretty scared, and swore she didn't want the cops or the insurance company; ok by me since it would likely come out of my pocket. Except for the drinking part. But BPD has other things to worry about on Friday at 11:30 and don't generally come out for bust ups that don't involve injury. We exchanged phone numbers and parted company. They took off pretty darn quick. If she calls this week looking for money I will probably point all this out and suggest that she takes care of hers, I'll take care of mine, and call it even. If she doesn't like it, I'll suggest the insurance companies take up the matter, which she won't want to hear.

So I have one dead bumper skin, ripped from the fender. Fog light intact; I don't know about its mounts. Fender paint o.k., although I haven't been out in the daylight.

And the rim is scratched LOL.

minus the rim it looks like it could be little more than a simple re-skin, call it $600 or so, unless something lurks beneath. Luckily it was a glancing blow so I don't think anything is wrong mechanically. Car tracked straight on the way home.

More luckily we were making a U-turn and not going left, or we would have been broadsided right in Q's door. $600-$1000 is worth not having a miscarriage.

(the other car, an older Saturn, needs a new bumper and a fender, since it cracked)

And the friend? The bar double booked the night so he never played. And yes, I am sincerely wishing the other friend had answered his phone to tell me that.

Glad everyone is ok. Wasn't looking for anyone to test out the 5 star safety rating, btw! ;)

not sure how I feel about not reporting it, seeing as they were dui/dwi (likely). I don't know what I would have done if I was in that situation.

    Any pics?

    -Brian
  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
it's a foggy grey area there Brian. I don't know how it would have gone down, exactly. I did know that, based on the law and extant other factors, it was probably my fault. On the other hand she was certainly speeding and may have been DUI. There on the spot I felt like I'd rather call it even than get a cruiser involved. I thought to myself that maybe I'd even get a ticket for failure to yield, she'd get cited for speeding (or locked up if she blew), and the insurance companies would probably call it a wash anyway. My deductable is $500, so a couple hundred more is worth it to me to continue having zero accidentrs on my insurance report.
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
    was your u-turn illegal?

    You guys were lucky.

I agree with Brian regarding the not reporting of it to authorities. My sister/brother-in-law, last thanksgiving (like us!) were rear-ended. The driver who caused the accident also didn't want it reported, so they all worked out a so-called deal/payment arrangement. Well guess what? It turns out my sister/brother-in-law have gotten stiffed. I hope it works out for you...

    Bob
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
say that they agreed to just pay their own repairs and call it a day. I guess my concern was that the person could get into another accident that evening if they were dui/dwi. I guess with our Attorney General in the news lately over her dui/dwi, I have no tolerance for that stuff.

    -Brian
  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
but the u-turnee must yield to oncoming traffic, obviously. Which apparently I failed to do.

Bob- different set of circumstances. If the cops came, and she blew under the limit, then it's my fault, case closed. So maybe she was just speeding (and I don't think witnesses count since they can't say what the speed was), or maybe she was DUI. If it's #1 I get a ticket and pay for 2 cars out of pocket. If it's #2 she goes downtown and I get my car fixed for free.

(FWIW it was only after they left that one witness said, "oh yeah, I think she's had too much." During my conversation with her, I guess I was too rattled to notice)

Your sister got rear-ended. That's ALWAYS the other car's fault, at least under MD law. No way would I have cut the person loose if that had been what happened; that's cut-and-dry.
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
It sounds like it could cost a fair amount to fix though. It's amazing how much, what appears to be little damage, actually costs to repair. Are you going through your insurance company, or pay out of pocket?

try that. it's the last pic.

gotta go now. We're heading to Gaithersburg to check out this "Great Beginnings" place. Baby shopping begins!!! (In the Outback, of course! ;-) )

Dan: you called it, buddy! They accepted our 2nd (best and final) offer and we are now under contract! :-)

And Patti was right, they were anxious because they're buying a new home.

That means The Fence got a little reinforcement and should hold up a couple more years now.

Loosh: don't worry, doesn't look like you have any frame damage. Could have been a lot worse and noone got hurt. Plus now you can come visit me in Ocean City and when we hit the beaches with our Foresters in North Bethany you won't be cringing as much. LOL
