Count me in, asthma too. Though thankfully my allergies have subsided a bit in recent years. Isn't there supposed to be a 7 year cycle, something like that?

I heard it took ~5 years for your body to adjust after you move some place new before your allergies would kick back in.

So the cure is to move to the beach house for a year or two, and then back inland.

    Rinse and repeat :-)

Unfortunately, your body's immune system has a memory (ie. if you had chicken pox once, you don't get it again) so it wouldn't take long before you moved back to a location you had allergies for them to kick back in.

When you move to a new place, it hopefully has allergens you aren't exposed to yet so it takes a few years for you to get a full blown reaction.

because I don't have allergies to speak of where I am. Once in a while I have trouble but it's rare. My wife has asthma however her triggers are smoke and cats so location isn't a big factor for her either. I just wish it wasn't so hot here for so long each year.

    G'day

So we can update the typical owner to

    Engineer/IT/Analytical type
    Glasses
    Allergies (asthma hay fever etc.)
    Rational decision maker
    Home owner
    Above average income
    Above average education

Oh dear, we aren't all nerds are we?

    Cheers

not an engineer, but I do think I'm an "analytical" type ... so um .. I fit that profile
  • rob_mrob_m Member Posts: 820
I wear contacts, as to keep a low profile!

I'm not an engineer, but I do work with a lot of IT people. My educational background is in fields that rely heavily on analytical methods. And yes, I have some rotten allergies.

    Graham-

It's scary how close you get! I started out to be a mechanical engineer, then wound up getting into the financial field. Is that close enough?

Glasses - not any more, after LASIK. But again, that's the type of thing a geek would adopt early on.

However, I fit every other characteristic Graham listed.

Bob wears glasses, uses a Mac, and has a dog. Fits the demographic to a T.

    I'd add:

    * name is Dave, Mike, or Steve
    * or at least a K in their name
    * Mac user (at least at some point)
    * hockey fans maybe?

Hockey is a niche sport but it comes up most often in our chats.

    Engineer/IT/Analytical type---- Nope.
    Glasses------ Nope.
Allergies (asthma hay fever etc.) Yup.
    Rational decision maker er...sometimes?
    Home owner Yup.
Above average income Har, that's a good one!
Above average education just a BA

I guess I'm supposed to be driving a Jetta?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
The whole wine angle kinda squeezes you in, though. And you have a dog, right? Wife has a K in her name.

Plenty of reasons you fit in.

  • I have a new Crew member to introduce. Tali was born March 19 after 8 hours of labor and measured in at 19 inches long and 7 pounds 1 ounce. She came to us completely healthy, and both mom and baby are doing great.

Tali has already learned to roll herself over from side to side when we lay her down on her back, and she tries to flop out of your hands when you hold her. She's a mover and a shaker. I'm going to have to stay alert with this little one.

My official household role is now "Errand Boy", running around town buying stuff we never imagined needing. It's amazing how much life can change in that fraction of a second when a child enters your life. What an incredibly rewarding experience.

Here are a few picks of the new addition:

I'll have to remember Tali's birthdate - it's mine as well.

Amazing that she can roll already - our little guy (4 mos.) can get up on either side but hasn't quite rolled over completely on his own yet.

I know about that "errand boy" stuff - that's where having a Subie wagon comes in handy!

    All the best!

    Congrats tyguy!

No way, that's mom, after the recent birth? She looks more energetic than you do!

I hereby welcome Tali to the Subaru Crew, may she be safely transported around with AWD forever.

Tali is a cutie!!! Congratulations to you and your wife.

You think you're an "errand boy" now? Oh you poor, poor dear, you have no idea what you're in for....but it's all worth it.

-Engineer/ IT/ Analyst? Sorta, Engineering tech.
    -Glasses? - Nope, still 20/ 20
    -Allergies -No, aversions? yes
-Rational decision maker? - Yes, if my wife is involved.
-Homeowner - Yes, or does it own me?
-Above average income - Yes, but not saying much in Canada.
-Above average education - probably not
-Other - Love hockey! I play weekly, and watch when able. Go Flames!
-No K's in my name anywhere, but my wife's middle name starts with a K, and she's driving a Subie now, too. I guess that was inevitable.

Ty, congrats. It's a huge and wonderful responsibility, and very gratifying, this parent thing...

    Ty!

Congratulations! Everything you described is all very new to me too. I can't believe it's been almost a year since I went through exactly what you're going through now.

Isn't the boost of energy and motivation you get from becoming a parent amazing?

    Good luck!

Fatherhood is super-cool. My daughter is my best friend. It only gets better and better.

Never have I laughed, giggled, so much in my life, as I do with my daughter.

You have a *lot* to look forward to.

Anyone know if I can use a lawn mower engine to build a home-made go-kart? Catch is it's a vertical shaft, don't you need horizontal shaft for that?

    -juice
  • rob_mrob_m Member Posts: 820
Vertical shaft. Steal the engine off your snow thrower. You probably will not need it for awhile.
  • bluesubiebluesubie Member Posts: 3,497

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I have an old mower and was wondering if I could re-use the engine for something else. The deck and blade are useless but the engine runs well.

Maybe I'll take this to the Cafe.

    G'day

Financial types get in on the analytical criteria. I'm a CPA amongst other things.

Well, we could at least suggest that Subaru standard fit the cabin air filter for the allergies, and make it easier to service.

I'd forgotten the dog. We have a Pharoah Hound/Kelpie cross who leaves nose prints and short brown/yellow fur all over the car. Maybe Subaru could pioneer an electrostatic fur attractor and make all other fabrics fur repellant.

Our dog would also put in a request for better padding on the centre console box so that she can stretch her paws out on to it and lovingly kiss the boss as he drives. I would vote for a restrictor to reduce those loving kisses when changing gear.

One item I seemed to have missed was the Proud Parent characteriestic. Seems to be a lot of us here. Congrats Ty.

    Cheers

Just found out when was at the dealers today that in Canada we have a base Outback with a premium package. The premium package adds the moonroofs, 6CD changer, and much nicer rims, and all for the bargain price of an extra $600CDN.

Do you guys have anything similar in the states?

This is actually what I was looking for in 01 when we bought the GT. The salesman said this was their biggest seller. I could believe it as previously the only way to get the moonroof on the outback was to buy the limited for an extra 4 grand and not everybody wants leather.

     Cheers Pat.
