My kid hopped into the now famous WRC mini car, which lark6 had brought with him, and I think they formed a future WRC team for 2024 or so.
We're tired but it was worth it, about 6 hours driving today, whew.

One request for the future: Because this group is often so large, it's impossible to keep everyone together during the course of the show, as everyone wants to see different vehicles, and/or spend more (or less) time with specific models. Perhaps in the future we should say, "go about your business," but let's all get together at a certain time later in the day, so that we can all go out and "feast," like what we did last year. It could be as simple as just getting everyone together at the show's upstairs food court (put a bunch of tables together), or go out to dinner.

I had a 'weird' day yesterday. Started like most Saturdays. Went to buy groceries yesterday afternoon, and just before I was done I went from feeling great to suddenly being very ill! Started with really bad abdominal cramping. I went straight to checkout and didn't even have to wait. While groceries were being scanned, I felt weak, light-headed, and started sweating profusely. I had to find a chair and SIT DOWN while she checked the groceries.
When she was done, I was able to get up and pay for the groceries. I got to the car, feeling 'slightly' better but still sweating like crazy in the 30-ish degree weather. Drove to the front where they loaded the groceries in the car, and got myself home. Don't know if it was something I ate, or the 'bug' that's going around school, but I was miserable for a couple of hours (running in and out of the bathroom), and then was very COLD. Got under all the covers and shivered for about 2 hours.
I didn't eat last night, but food 'smelled' good. I guess it was just something I ate. *I* hope it's done!
I was teased that it was "Hilary Clinton disease".

We got there at 11 and were at the Subaru booth for two hours before we left the area. My intention was to go back and track some people down after we did a sweep of the rest of the show. It started to get very crowded so we ended up just leaving the convention center and going for lunch.
The B9. I was actually pleasantly surprised. As the cliche goes, it looks better in person, definitely applies IMO. But, I feel that it would look much better without the bulge in the grille. I really hope that the revised WRX grille doesn't have the bulge. Gimme a hammer, and I'll fix the B9. :-) Also heard more negative comments than positive ones at the Audi stand regarding the grilles.
I asked the B9 rep about feedback and he's heard it both ways. I was really impressed by the interior, especially after sitting in a Cayenne.

Our son Paul had a fun time; he is a real attention hound and with the attention he gathered riding in his WRC car he just ate it up. That was a real hit with a lot of people, not just Subaru fans; I wish I could post some of the comments I heard but I don't think I could get away with using the profanities (e.g., "Wow, that's cool as...!").

I'll offer my B9 observations in the B9 forum where, I see, someone is already trolling.
I'm sorry to say the event wasn't all happiness and sunshine, as somewhere along the way we lost our digital camera. Losing the camera itself isn't as hard to take as losing the flash card within, which contained holiday photos that will be impossible to replace. Calls to the Convention Center and to the hotel where we used the parking garage to park our car have gone unreturned.

No I didn't, Bob. We had recently upgraded our home computer's OS from WinMe to WinXP. The software that came with the camera is not compatible with XP; the manufacturer's (Canon) website allegedly has a free patch for that but we downloaded it and it didn't work.
At the very least we could have had the photos made into prints.

I had a very interesting day. Last year I scored a chit to hire a PhD candidate to help finish the design and build of a gizmo based on one of our patent apps for one of our ion beam tools. The project is nearing completion, as is his degree, and I was invited to be on the panel to critique a part of his thesis presentation and defense. This was up at the Nanotechnology Center at the University of Albany (NY), also known as SEMATEC North, for those of you who have heard of the industry consortium based in Austin, TX. Fortunately, it is an area of technology that I am very interested in (advanced lithography for nanometer device fabrication), and I am somewhat up on the literature. Having not even completed my Masters, it was an honor to be part of the grand inquisition, and hobnob with some very bright folks.

I'll take you up on that. I am slowly but surely falling behind the curve w/r/t technology. I bought a PDA last summer that I've barely explored; I just bought a DVD camcorder that I haven't mastered; and don't even talk to me about MP3 players. Seems like every other word out of peoples' mouths these days is iPod but if I understand correctly you can only listen to iTunes on your iPod - can't burn them to CD or make backup copies. What's that all about? I'm just happy to have a 6-disc changer in my car and I don't want to swap to the aftermarket because I actually listen to the NOAA WB radio!
I'm the one in the household responsible for "electronic gadgets" but honestly I do not have the time to learn them all - how to use, to copy files onto my PC, to convert them to other file formats, make them talk to each other etc.
The camera lost was a 2.1 Mpixel Canon S300. Easy to use but it had serious limitations.
I'm all ears...

The iPod plays MP3, AAC, and a couple other "standard" music formats, but not WMA. They also offer a lossless AAC codec for discriminating listeners who don't want to compress their music. Personally, I use 192K AAC (equivalent to 256K MP3) encoding and have never noticed any issues with the sound.
You can use iTunes to burn music CDs, and of course you can archive the music any way you want -- they are just data files on the HD. I have even transported files between computers on my USB drive, and it works great. There are zero restrictions on music you legally own that was ripped from CD.
The only restrictions are on downloaded "pay for" music from the iTunes Music Store, which are intended to discourage illegal pirating of music. For law-abiding citizens, the restrictions are not really an issue -- you can manually burn as many music CDs as you want and share the music on up to 5 (if I remember right) computers and an unlimited number of iPods. So it's quite flexible in my opinion.

1. Are you a point and shoot photographer or do you actually change the settings (aperature and shutter speed)
2. How big would you like to print pictures? 4x6, 8x10, or bigger?
3. Does the size of the camera matter? Is smaller and compact better? Or are you ok carrying a small brick around?
4. What kind of limitations did you run into with your s300?
5. How much do you want to spend?
I'm currently shooting with a Nikon D70 slr which has been great fun, but doesn't exactly fit in my pocket (especially with extra lenses). My film camera is a Nikon F-100 but now that I have a DSLR I find I use my film camera less and less. I guess that's progress! ;-)
Digital still isn't as good as film, but it's getting there.

I personally have a Canon A60 (2 MP) and have been pleased with the quality; excellent 4 x 6 prints and decent battery life. And the price was right; bought it at Office Depot for an after rebate price of -$62.00 Yup, that's right I got the camera AND $62.00 (paid $138 - $200 in rebates). :-)

Within that price range you have a ton of choices. At the high end you can almost get a Canon Digital Rebel SLR, which would is much nicer than any point and shoot, but a lot bigger and heavier.
Anything bigger than 4mp would be appropriate for the kind of prints you want to make. In terms of time between shots, most cameras today will take at lest one picture per second.
If you like manual mode, consider the Canon G6 or Sony DSC-V3. Both are 7mp (more than enough resolution) and should fit your needs and budget. The Sony is a less expensive (about $450) but I find Sony's more complicated than they have to be. Canon's tend to be easy to use, the G6 has a faster lens than the Sony, and the battery lasts about 500 pictures. But it runs about a $100 more than the Sony.
There are a lot of cameras in the $300 range that will probably do most of what these 2 'prosumer' cameras will do also. It all depends on how much you want to spend. ;-)
